I just hate how John explained to Lara Jean that in middle school all girls wanted Peter over him/used him to get to Peter. And she kissed him and left him for Peter at the end of the movie that’s just messed up
I get what you mean! I agree in the aspect that she shouldn’t have just left for Peter like that. But my thing is that maybe she was confused and thought “maybe John Ambrose is the one for me” and after kissing him she realized she genuinely liked Peter. Bc essentially you can’t force yourself to like someone or like them out of pity so it sucks that John Ambrose ended up the way he did at the end of the movie but I also feel like people can’t blame Lara Jean for not having feelings for him. You know what I mean? :)
Lara is just so cringy in this movie saying things like “I’ve never been a girlfriend before, I hope I’m good at it” that line gives me second had embarrassment
delightful 999 having a boyfriend for a first time should be like hanging out with a friend who your fancy. Conversation might sometimes have awkward pauses but usually the boy and the girl should bounce off each other. I think the things Lara said we’re unrealistic and didn’t make sense. Her character didn’t seem to add anything to peters character, in movies usually the characters have subtle but noticeable changes when in relationships such as there more happy or they may have new glow to their personalities to show they feel good in their relationship. I would expect Lara and peter to laugh together and have awkward pauses followed by laughter not sentences like “I’ve never been a girlfriend before, I hope I’m good at it” saying that kills the mood because it’s too awkward and is just cringy. I would rather see Lara interact with peter by making him dropping his fork even more funny (adding more to each other personalities) for example Lara could do something funny to try embarrass him back or say something that makes peter laugh. Or at least water down the sentence to something like “I hope I’m not a bad girlfriend”.
@@Sophie-cz4gg Okay. Now that you have explained, I get it. I get it why you said it's cringy. I agree with you on the fact that the movie was a bit unrealistic. I liked the first movie, Lara Jean was relatable back then.😂
John Ambrose was literally a saint. Remember when he was like "I feel like I read it all wrong" when Lara Jean was the one leading him on? And I love how he respected that she was in a relationship. He only kissed her when she said she was single again. He was smart, kind, not clingy, not complicated like Peter, had the same interests/priorities as Lara Jean, and he played the piano like a MASTER like HON YOU GAVE THAT UP???? Made me so mad
I actually found it really funny, cause from the first movie she’s known as a day dreamer. So this was just like any other teenager imagining themselves in a dramatic music video I think haha
Rlly?Oh that makes more sense “IvE neVeR beEn A GuRl FriEnD BefORe” *cricket* “I hoPE I’m guD aT itTTtTt” (I should note I don’t hate the actor or the writers.)
Amber Tirbhowan its also that these movies are based on books and the first one was written by one author and the second was co-written by that author and another one.
Key differences between the book and the movie: 1. John Ambrose is Stormy's grandson, which is why Stormy kept pushing them together. 2. Peter kissed Lara Jean on his own will, even before he and Gen got together, and not just because of spin the bottle--indicating that he's always liked her, and why Gen has a deep dislike towards Lara Jean. 3. Lara Jean was heavily bullied for the sex tape. It wasn't "glorified" as in this movie. She was made into a meme, she was laughed at for months, all while Peter never seemed to suffer as much as she did. This added stress to their relationship. 4. Peter wasn't late to their study date because of practice. He never showed up because Gen needed him. 5. Lara Jean was once close to Gen's mom too. And the woman Gen's dad was cheating with was just Margot's age. That's why Lara Jean also felt guilty about begrudging Gen support from Peter.
Also • the snow scene and the ball scene were two totally different things in the book whereas in the movie they mushed it up together. Lara and John had kissed I think two times in the book. Once infront if I'm not wrong the carriage? Gen was with Peter in the book when he came around the ball feeling jealous. They had a full game of tag in the book for the capsule.
This. This is why I was so unhappy with the 2nd movie because the first one had such a closer resemblance to the read but it set up such an odd way that I instantly knew the 2nd movie would be a lot different from the book. The movie missed so many key parts that separated the characters like missing the entire part where all of the kids agree on the game of tag or whatever and Lara Jean sees for herself peter and gen which builds a larger gap. So many necessary points were missed
I think this was rushed because her bestfriend wasn't even in the movie alot and John was a better choice, I hate that she just lead him on then left like that.
That's also how the book is but ten times better. I don't think the movie was rushed they just left way to much stuff out from the book so that's why everything seems so rushed.
The movie is meh, but the book also ends like that. Infact, I was rooting for John way more, he treated her so well and since they're childhood friends they seemed to have a better connection. They had a cute little moment, and then Lara just left and suddenly just wanted to be with Peter, it was an unsatisfying ending for the book as well.
Alsoo I'm probably putting way more thought into the choices the wardrobe team made, bc of how it ends, but whenever Lara Jean is with John she is wearing clothes that match her past outfits, the ones from the first movie and when she's with Peter all of her clothes are tighter and less bright. So I as the good expectator was noticing that this should be like a "she's more herself with John Ambrose" on top of the she just seems happier when she's with him
Honestly, I found that the only rewarding moment was the heartfelt conversation between Lara and Genevieve. I would have much rather watched a film about the rekindling of their friendship.
*SPOILERS if interested** Sadly the third book doesn’t really have anything where Gen and LJ become friends. It kinda just wraps up as them moving on with life and college. John Ambrose makes a few appearances in the third book, but he does have a new GF! But the jealousy and back and forth is nothing like “PS I still love you”. Not sure what the third movie will do with it though. I’m sure they’ll make some scenes where Gen and LJ are actually friendly with each other again.
@Bailee Ku you know the movies are based off of books right? Idk maybe go read the books? Bcs Gen is the bitchiest bitch and deserve whatever she's going through. I hate her with a passion and I hope Lara Jean will NEVER be her friend ever
The storyline felt really pointless, like lara jean just being confused for a whole movie and then she makes up her mind. like nothing really happened ya know.
May Lotee imagine reading the book it was so annoying wait for Lara Jean to figure out something I knew the answer to the second the plot was introduced.
every netflix teens movie must always have : a quirky teen a stereotype gossip girl with the most gossip girl voice the lover must look 16 even tho they're in their 20s
She wants to break with Peter so she can try with John because she knows that Peter has no other real option, she is a fucking strategist and the strategy went well in the end (although by "magic luck").
at the end when john & lara were kissing & she pulled away,, John said *“it’s peter right”* , it shows how he’s used to everyone picking peter over him🥺
IN LARA JEAN'S DEFENSE: i actually thought her portrayal of a 16 year old girl overthinking about her boyfriend and her ex-best friend's relationship was pretty appropriate. the fights they were having i thought were written decently as well as her internal dialogue. i agree that this movie didn't portray lara jean and peter's relationship growth well, but in their arguments i kind of sided with her, like after the treehouse party when she asked him about seeing gen and all he could talk about was who brought the pizza. i also quite liked the part where she had come to terms with gen and talked about "jong". also i thought lana condor (LJ actress) portrayed 16 year old girl mannerisms well so that bumped up LJ's appeal to me.
@@semolinalibra She was still 16. She said that herself in the movie. And I don't think they waited months for their first date, until Lara Jean turns 17. It's not important though 😂
Totally agree, watching people completely bash LJ’s character while fair is kinda weird. I mean she’s young and bound to make mistakes, I actually think her personality is really realistic. She’s shy but she’s still opinionated, she gets mad at Peter rightfully and I think all teens are kinda self absorbed at some point. But watching the third movie you can really see LJ grow, even with a few lash outs she still apologises and grows from that. I honestly love how Lana played the character and props to her for portraying a teen girl so well
YESS!! She was so bad in this movie. She blamed it on her being the first time in a relationship and she did so many bad things to both. Do you have to have a previous attachment to know not to have a guy who openly likes you and you see often, next to your actual boyfriend while the other guy hasnt a clue you are not avaliable? Or to lead that same guy on. Peter had some shitty moments, but overall hes been very nice and kind to her. And poor john. Not only did she let that kiss happen right after her breakup, she literally ditched him and went running to find peter. Peter comes trough for her all the time. When did she do the same? In this movie she was that needy tyle of girl that expects her boyfriend to act as she wants and gets mad at him for doing whatever she IS also doing. She was so damn selfish, only caring about herself.
I think 100% that her and Peter were better than her and John bc she didn’t rlly know John like she did but...not really. then he came back in her life and she suddenly liked him? But in this movie you rlly get to see how patient and nice Peter is and he literally did everything for her. And she’s with John a lot but as soon as Peter is helping a friend (well...ex) she breaks up with him!? She doesn’t really deserve any of em. But at least John was ok with just being friends!
I don’t think she intentionally flirted with John. I think signs got mixed up and she was confused and didn’t know how to tell John she was dating Peter, that she probably doesn’t like him, etc.
I think it’s a good character point. She isn’t perfect. John’s role is to show that relationships aren’t happily ever after after ya start going out. You are still attracted to other people, you wonder about other possibilities, but in the end it’s a choice to be with a certain person. Better or worse
nah peter was so secretive about everything with gen, at least LJ told peter about john. plus, peter was an all round asshole in this movie, it seemed like him and LJ had nothing in common and lacked chemistry
Mimi Is ace I mean Lara Jean ain’t innocent though. Sure she tells peter they’re working together but she still flirted with John Ambrose without telling him she had a bf, and never told peter she was having conflicting feelings. She broke up with him and basically blamed everything on him
Did anyone else find it weird that Josh just disappeared off the face of the planet? Like ik he didn’t really need to be in the story but I thought that they were at least friends???
Can we talk about Lara kissing John, flirting with him, pretending she doesn't have a boyfriend AND being "the good one" at the same time? Not how it works, honey!
They weren't together when she kissed, plus if she was hurting that way, she was probably just hurting too much to realize she had feelings for him or she was so mad that she thought she didn't love him.
Yes, exactly. She kept getting mad at Peter for talking to his ex, but then she thinks it’s okay to flirt/kiss/hang out with the guy she used to “love.” Hypocrite 😂
Chelsea Ozanic She only started hanging with John because of Peter constantly including his ex in everything, and lying to LARA about it. It’s not like John and her dated so it’s really not the same lol.
Unpopular opinion: Peter wasn’t a bad bf, he was exactly what a realistic high school boyfriend would be; a young man who makes innocent mistakes, is still learning about women and relationship, but has a good heart.
Agreed. This is true for most all the characters. Lara realizing she can still find another attractive while in a relationship shows how inexperience and young they r.. kids trying to navigate through their emotions into adulthood
And it’s actually a testament to Lara Jean’s character that she doesn’t just drop Peter and run to John Ambrose on an emotional whim. There is a necessity for “stick-to-it-iveness” in relationships, and Lara Jean picks the guy who has been around the last 6 years, and, you know, has actually been dating lol. Side note, I do love John Ambrose, he’s amazing 😂
I loved Lara-Jean and Peter in the first movie, but they were so awkward in this one. By the end of the movie I just wanted her to get with John Ambrose because he’s just such a better guy and they have way more in common. Also can we just address how Peter brought up John’s stutter that he was very insecure about throughout all of their time together?? That ain’t it peter.
Yeah, i know this movies message was supposed to be 'dont move on just because it gets rough, stick with it' but peter and laura jean are total opposites so like...
Ikr! I didn’t read the book but I thought the movie would make you think John would end up with her a little bit more....Instead we all knew peter and Lara would end up together
Peter but idk why because her and peter had so many problwms and then her and john were completely fine and thats why im confused because you can tell its a movie cause a real life person wouldnt make this decision unless A) they see something other people dont or B) they dont see what is really infront of them
this movie was so dumb bc it was literally just Peter being a jerk the whole time, John being perfect, LJ playing both of them, Peter saying one nice thing at the end and then LJ choosing Peter, the jerk
One of the laziest and bottom-tier talented type of artists around, right next to mumble rappers. They're really going for that bare-minimum benchmark.
I felt the exact same way it felt like one of those silly short stories that is played before you watch a movie at the theatres it was ok but not worth the wait.
They cut so many of the good parts from the book that made it more dramatic and worth spending time on. I’m surprised how this movie could be so long but still say so little Also love the Reggie/Zach/Trevor note Love that actor hahah
This movie and The chilling adventures of Sabrina: Having 2 underrated characters named Ambrose that for some reason are pushed to the side when they are arguably the best character of their franchise
the fact that she didn’t pick john bothered me so much!?!!?! he was SUCH a better person than peter as well as,, way more attractive like?? it makes no sense
How is he a better person than peter? Seriously? Peter make mistakes like literally every human being and he's a bad person? Peter genuinely cares for Lara jean so I really don't knw y ppl r saying he's a bad person
Natalie Grace i do kinda see what you mean, but it's not drastic enough to seem odd - just character development 🤷♀️ your personality has changed as u got older, well so has theirs. to be fair tho we don't know how far apart these movies are set
Natalie Grace well peter doesn’t really have a personality outside of *is heartthrob* and Lara Jean is just *i want to live in a romance novel* and being pretty terrible so they haven’t really changed
Netflix didn’t portray the second book very well. They left out a lot of key facts. The second book is basically the beginning of their relationship and how Peter always put Gen first and Netflix didn’t show that which makes the movie bad, but I’m a To All The Boys fan so I will watch the third.
The thing is: they made a way too perfect Peter since the first movie (when he wasn't like that in the book) and now they didn't want to "ruin" his character by showing all the bad things he does and portraying way too little of John (so anyone would prefer him, maybe?) and it makes everything feel rushed. Peter was awful to Lara Jean and he deserved to be dumped, that was my favorite part of the whole book, the break up scene. So I felt really betrayed with the adaptation.
I couldn't agree more. The 2nd book had way more emotion than the seconds movie. They made Stormy a minor detail instead of a major plot point. In the books John and Lara wouldn't have been as close as they were if it weren't for her. The break up made no sense in the movie. If they would have at least added a couple of the awful things peter had done to the plot sequence than the movie would have been a lot more liked. Also the " Star Ball" did not live up to the expectations that I had for it after reading the books, nor did Bellview.
The whole movie in a nutshell: lara jean: okay... uhmm hehe *smiles or something* Peter: *smiles and scrunches his nose* *indie pop edm music* Lara jean: hey... *looks around and smiles* *voice over x69*
It was very weird for me because my name is Laura Jean, and when I hear Lara Jean I'm not like "oh hey that's my name" but he kept saying my actual name lol
Just one question, how is it that everyone's hand writing that could manage to write letters in a movie or series looks like they have Shakespeare writing for them???
When Laura was on her date with Peter and she was like "I've never been a girlfriend before I hope I'm good at it" I found it cringy and thought she was trying to hard to be cute. Like PLEASE SHUT UP.
The thing that bothered me the most about this movie, was the whole John Ambrose situation. They built up all this tension and they were flirting all the time. It was basically the main plot of the movie. Then they kissed and she just left and went with Peter and they both acted as if nothing ever happened. Can we at least get some closure? She just broke his heart went to Peter and the movie ended. John Ambrose was just gone like wth??
Pfft we could’ve had some people laying on the couch write the movie but *nooo* Y’all had to pick professionals smh (I’m not even kidding rn I see people on TH-cam smarter than people who write a whole movie)
It’s so funny because PS is my least favorite book in the series yet I disliked the movie because it was too little like the book 😂😂 I was robbed of my John Ambrose content!
Lara Jean just left John!! He loved her, he deserved better. She led him on, and sure she "needed to kiss the wrong guy" to know that Peter was "the right one" but how about John, he just got his heart broken... they really didn't have to do my boy dirty like that
He confessed to Lara Jean how he felt that girls didn't liked him in middle school. Also tells her about the girl who asked him to some dance but danced all night with Peter. What does Lara Jean do, dances with him, kisses him and then leaves him for Peter. I get that she was always going to end up with Peter but they sure played with his insecurities
I think that's the whole point. I mean this is from a book and there all the story is developed way better. It makes you realize what really happened that night
Idk why but when i saw that scene I knew something was up. Peter looked very lost in thought. I knew he wasn't waiting for Lara Jean, so i guess the sequel didn't mess that up for me
I don’t know why Peter always gets so flustered when Laura Jean asks about Jen, like all he had to say is “Oh yeah I was with her.” and she’d be like “whYyYyY!?” And then all he had to say was “She’s having family problems and she needed help, I gave her comfort because as you know we are still friends.” THAT WOULD LITERALLY SOLVE EVERYTHING!
Can we talk about how this movie acts like she just now found out that John Ambrose found her letter and barely sees him at Belview but in the first movie he shows up at her house letter in hand and it's a completely different actor
That break up scene with LJ singing as she floats thru the hall way of the school was cringey asf. In my mind I was like no don’t turn this into riverdale ! Tbh this whole movie was cringey and not in a good way. Like why would you end the movie with both of them kissing and floating in the air ?
LOL I laughed so hard at that! It was SO unnecessary! I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought so. I was wondering what the actress must have been thinking while doing it. Whose idea was that???
I thought it was just me- the lip-sync scene you mentioned just didn’t fit imo. It was so weird. (Same with the ending scene where they flOat iN tHe AiR-)
anyone else find the “first date” scene cringe? LOL especially their little ad lib and improvised lines. it just didn’t have any natural flow. there were other scenes in the movie between LJ and Peter that also lacked chemistry :/
I totally agree that it was cringy however it feels to me like what caused it were directing choices and "mistakes" and not a lack of chemistry, because lana and noah had great chemistry in the first movie and in interviews too!
I always find it funny how people critique scenes for being awkward except that real life is like that sometimes. I can definitely see someone going on a first date and being awkward and weird about things like LJ was.
Am I the only one who hated how peter brought up john’s stutter from when they were younger??? That was very low of him. I almost cried cuz John is just too precious.
He didn’t even apologize, it wasn’t like John was trying to steal Lara from him because Lara didn’t even have the decency to tell him she’s in a relationship
Naya oh no, it’s true. The first movie was incredible and this movie Lara Jean is now turned into a fickle, confused insecure girl and despite the millions of things Peter did wrong in the second book it was all erased to make her look terrible. That’s due to to the director and his choices. 🤷🏻♀️
Naya how is stating a fact sexist? It’s a movie from the perspective of a girl so naturally a woman might have more insight and know better how to tell the story
The three to all the boys books: exist Netflix: okay so people we are going to make one movie and include everything from all 3 books and leave nothing interesting for sequels to this movie The first movie: masterpiece The second movie: *includes Jordan Fisher*
Okay, Jordan Fisher is cute and hot (for me at least) but I expected that the guy from the first movie was going to be John Ambrose (since his description was basically that other actor)
No man , she knew she was truly in love with Peter I am mad at the movie for in the second movie painting peter as an asshole cause it truly turned a lot of people away from peter and towards John . Ultimately Ik she was gonna end up with peter
there is something about this movie that seems off, to me, I felt like the actors didn't want to do it and the storyline was kinda bad and just everything about this one screamed 'boring and awkward', while the first one was much, much better than this p.s: I got this all from Alex and Dylan videos, I just couldn't keep watching the movie after the first 5 minutes
we just gonna disregard the fact that john ambrose showed up to lara jean’s door at the end of the first movie but in the second movie he writes her back and looks completely different from how he did in the first movie????
this sequel was 100% not needed. the only thing it added to the overall plot is lara and gen’s friendship but other than that the first movie was fine by itself.
Agree, I thought it was only me, but I feel this movie its just a filler, it's very Grey and without the magic and the charm of the first one, for me the director didn't knew what to do with the story, he had the same actors and elements to make another movie with the likeness and charm of the first one and trough all the movie the magic never appears, since the first movie it was stated that Lara had insecurities and Peter was a hard head and even with that they really loved each other, they were just pretending to be a couple but you could feel the chemistry between them and that's why they end in love with each other, this second part seems to me like The reafirmation of the first but it dwells trough all the movie on Lara Jean insecurities, It doesn't even feel like Jhon could be a rival to Peter, there's no menace there, between Lara and Jhon there's no love spark, since their first encounter it seems like they were just very good friends, to me Jhon could have been Laras gay friend (same chemistry), the movie its just ok but I think if you liked the first one this one it's a little bit of a dissapointment.
*Pros about the movie:* John Ambrose, Kitty, retiring home, Lara resolving her conflict with Gen, Lara forming a friendship with John, the M&M scene, *Cons:* how Peter was acting, how Lara just ditched John like that at the end, how rushed the ending was, how flat the plot was, accomplishing nothing major throughout the entire movie, the random lip syncing scene in the hallway, Ross Butler’s character,
Personally I think Ross buttler's character was good. I didn't like Kitty though. I loved her in the 1st movie and now she was just cringe. Another pro I'd say lara's dad having a relationship.
Rafael Santos but it was so random bc it felt like a lot of those things mattered but they didn’t develop the significance of all those side plots. So it just felt like there was no need for them. I will say, I feel like this book is way better than the movie.
This movie was so disappointing because the plot in the second book is so good and just makes you want to know more but i think this movie really just butchers everything
Lol that commercial knew what it was talking about😂😂😂😂😂 Like honestly both Gen and Lara Jean annoyed me. Gen because she literally stopped being friends and hating Lara Jean over something that happened in MIDDLE SCHOOL. And she acted like Lara Jean killed her family or something😂😂😂😂😂 and then Lara Jean, well alex pretty much said why she was annoying lol
Lauren Stangl I don’t quite remember, but basically Lara and Peter broke up quicker, for a longer time, and for more valid reasons. John and Lara begin hanging out. Eventually when hanging out, John basically admits that Lara should be with Peter. She objects at first, but realizes that he’s right and they stay friends. John goes back to his hometown and actually gets a girlfriend, despite it being long distance.
Aniston Stormy isn’t even funny in this movie lol the movie is so angsty with barely any plot. And Mrs Rothschild is such a last minute rushed in sideplot compared to the books.
Also if they were that rich they would just have live-in caretakers. Who would ever choose to live in a home 😐 and the receptionist making all of those bloody marys and old fashioneds and whatnot? No. I liked that old woman tho 🤷♀️
"Okay, so I'm hufflepuff, but sometimes Ravenclaw, who is your favourite ninja turtle one time I put a Reese's in my mouth and let it sit there for 8 hours what sign are you I'm a scorpio obviously" Best Conversation EVER!
did peter or lara jean become better people at the end? apparently not... did lara jean and john ambrose's relationship develop, even as just friends? also no
Like seriously John Ambrose has literally NO drama or problems in this movie yet Peter is just the center of drama, problems, attention!!! I just really wished she picked John 🥺🥺🥺🥺
The books are better, as always. In the book, it's way more obvious that Lara Jean is still in love with Peter, but tries to get over him by flirting with John. Read the books, you'll be happier
@@kateanddevinlindsay5478 I read the first two and tbh, i didnt get the buzz over them, I Mean they are good but sometimes i felt like i wasnt reading an actual book :/
No, not really. I think I havent screamed at a book more than at this one. Peter was an asshole the whole time and I really couldnt get why Lara Jean chose him over John.
Here’s some of my thoughts on the movie 1. They hired a different director for this movie and it shows 2. The costuming and production design for this movie looked so ridiculously over the top like someone just put an insane amount of vsco filters on everything, mainly in the senior home. The first movie definitely had this but it looked a lot lore natural 3. Absolutely nothing happens with John Ambrose. They build up to them kissing 5 minutes before the movie ends and then she just goes back to peter and he’s supposedly okay with it and we never see him again??? 4. I hated the retconning of the hot tub scene because the whole point of that scene was her accepting that someone could actually like her and if he was waiting for someone else than it defeats the whole purpose of the scene So yeah I guess I didn’t like this movie
Very very true :( The whole hot tub scene having a different meaning for Peter had to be in the movie tho. The book also had the same thing happen. In the book, Petter was waiting for Gen too, but it isn’t brought up until Book 2, just like for movie 2. So I guess Jenny Han is to blame for messing up the illusion :P
Noor Jehan I couldn’t agree more, at first I thought it was just me, but apparently not. And they left so much out about the necklace and everything in the book🤦🏻♀️
So you’re just gonna lead John A. on, then not tell him your dating, then go with Peter, then leave Peter, go to John again, kiss him, leave him, and finally end with Peter? I’m confused. Can’t say this was my favorite movie😬 Edit- Thanks for the likes lol!
It was so flat. She kissed John and was like no this isn’t what I want and went running back to peter, and both dudes are just okay w this? Her character seems pretty shallow here and they’re just rolling w it bc plot
Attention to everyone in a sour relationship: *YOU DO NOT HAVE TO STAY IN YOUR RELATIONSHIP BECAUSE YOU’VE BEEN TOGETHER A LONG TIME, HAD TO GO THROUGH A LOT TO BE TOGETHER, OR HAVE GONE THROUGH A LOT IN YOUR TIME TOGETHER. IF YOU’RE NOT HAPPY WITH YOUR PARTNER, LEAVE THEM.* And that’s on not being a toxic partner.
Can confirm this. I was in a similar problem with a friend of mine, finally managed to break things off and we're both way happier now. We're still friends but we both understand it wasn't a good relationship to be stuck in and won't be doing it ever again.
Thank you. This reminds me of how I almost put myself through more time of a toxic relationship because it was Valentine's Day soon and our first anniversary was coming up. I suppose it was a red flag that she couldn't even remember it,when she was the one that asked me out. I hope this helps other people.
They literally skipped the entire Tag game plot from the book. That part let's you understand why Lara Jean gets so insecure and tells you more about Gen. They also left out the fact that Lara Jean was being badly bullied and shamed about the hot tub video and why it's a big deal that Gen leaked it and Peter continued to defend her. They made a website and memes of Lara Jean and everything to bully her, and Peter wasn't affected by it.
*I was very disappointed in the directive style of this movie* . Not the same humor, or heart, flow, or story line.... This sequel failed for me... I want to watch the first one all the time, but this one i don't wanna see again.
Yea...and is it just me or did it seam like the actors were more childlike? I know they are supposed to basically be children haha 😅, but it felt a little forced and strange compared to the vibe of the first movie.
Someone said her picking Peter makes perfect sense as someone who has never actually been in a relationship and it's obsessed with romcoms. Anytime a girl has to choose a guy in a romcom, she always picks her "first love" cuz they have "history" or whatever. That could also account for some of her insecurity. Gen was Peter's "first love"
Lara Jean kissing john ambrose just to end up with Peter was it for me. (Idk if yall understood but I didn't like that part.) she basically played John ambrose to prove Peter was the one she would up with. Also Thanks for the likes
There was this quote in the selection that goes along the lines of “break my heart. break it a thousand times. it was only ever yours to break anyway.” and i freaking loved it. and here they butcher the line💀
perpetually confused omg yes I love that line when Maxon said that to America. It was similar to what you said and it was one of the of most beautiful lines I have ever heard!
Yessss...... when I was watching the movie, I thought oooooh, I know what is next, with my eyes brimming with tears at the reference. But I was sooo disappointed when it turned out to be something else.😥
I see this trope in almost all romance related media & I HATE it so much!!!!! Like sometimes it’s fine bc the first person is fine, but sometimes you can tell that they’ d be better off if they broke it off & moved on. Also i wish more media would show that relationships end & its ok not to stay with one person for the rest of your life
Movies are never supposed to be better than the books. A book can not be turned into a screenplay without taking out information or changing things to work better on camera. Plus a narrator in a book and a narrator in a movie have different jobs. One in about. has to explain everything worth explaining whilst a narrator in an movie doesn’t have to explain really anything about the scene other than time and emotion.
ImReally Human basically in short books are more in detail and less consumable. But movies are consumable shorter and concrete there’s less imagination. That’s why my favorite art form is music as the story is told by words and song but also up to your own interpretation.
Laura didn't cheat, she was leading John on & only kissed him when she was single, Peter actions was great either he could have told her before she saw that intimate pic with a girl who leaked her tape but it was all realistic
That movie was really hard to watch especially because NOTHING HAPPENED! The whole movie is just a whole bunch of nothing. They don't do anything super interesting, there is no actual character development, no questions to be answered and in the end they are at the same point that they started at. They didn't try to disguise them as interesting people anymore. Having had a group of friends in middle school that kinda fell apart is just boring, normal life, not a whole movie plot.
John Ambrose: *Dances With Lara Jean And Gives Her A Good Time*
Lara Jean: *Ima Head Out*
Wait, did he actually say “Dances With Lara Jean And Gives Her A Good Time”?
TigermanX4 No, i think they meant “*” instead of quotations
Oh yeah
@@scioubihabitas7721 that would make this movie 100% better.
I just hate how John explained to Lara Jean that in middle school all girls wanted Peter over him/used him to get to Peter. And she kissed him and left him for Peter at the end of the movie
that’s just messed up
Jainashel Gabriel yes it’s sad but at least she didn’t start to date him or stuff even though she didn’t like him
I feel like they will make john fall for Lara ex best friend so everyone would have a happy ending
The movie ruined the whole plot with Peter and John, you can't seem to understand why she would just leave him OUTTA NOWHERE, but ok guess they tried
I don’t really know it’s just annoying how she just Leaves him
Lara is just so cringy in this movie saying things like “I’ve never been a girlfriend before, I hope I’m good at it” that line gives me second had embarrassment
Sophie 123 Same
But, isn't that kinda true that she hasn't been in a relationship before, so she has no idea how to act.
I am just trying to get your point of view.
delightful 999 having a boyfriend for a first time should be like hanging out with a friend who your fancy.
I liked the first movie, Lara Jean was relatable back then.😂
delightful 999 yeah I preferred her in the first movie
John Ambrose was literally a saint. Remember when he was like "I feel like I read it all wrong" when Lara Jean was the one leading him on? And I love how he respected that she was in a relationship. He only kissed her when she said she was single again. @@louieelof5357 gotcha, I wasn't sure if I was missing something deeper than that
Key differences between the book and the movie:
Wow the more you know
so was it a sex tape or just making out ?
lidette711 ohh I actually want to read the books now
I feel like the least they could've done was give John some closure or something. Hopefully, they can do that in the third movie, at least.
I feel Josh's pain
Alsoo I'm probably putting way more thought into the choices the wardrobe team made, bc of how it ends, but whenever Lara Jean is with John she is wearing clothes that match her past outfits, the ones from the first movie and when she's with Peter all of her clothes are tighter and less bright. So I as the good expectator was noticing that this should be like a "she's more herself with John Ambrose" on top of the she just seems happier when she's with him
"he texted me goodnight, it's like i'm a disney princess" u didn't have to come for my neck like that

I have a feeling he’s not wrong
Honestly, I found that the only rewarding moment was the heartfelt conversation between Lara and Genevieve. I would have much rather watched a film about the rekindling of their friendship.
100% agree. This was the only redeeming moment of the movie.
Mia Loren this was the only part of the movie where I actually cried and enjoyed that scene
That part isn't even in the book. When Lara Jean tries to have a heart to heart with Genevieve, Gen just walks away and tells Lara to "Grow up"
*SPOILERS if interested**
Sadly the third book doesn’t really have anything where Gen and LJ become friends.

I honestly love how Lana played the character and props to her for portraying a teen girl so well
everyone is like “john or peter” but why is no one talking about the fact that lara LITERALLY played both boys so hard
RIGHT!!
Ikr. Not just john but she was so mean to peter :(
Yeah right

I don’t think she intentionally flirted with John. I think signs got mixed up and she was confused and didn’t know how to tell John she was dating Peter, that she probably doesn’t like him, etc.
I didn't like her this time
I think it’s a good character point. She isn’t perfect. John’s role is to show that relationships aren’t happily ever after after ya start going out. You are still attracted to other people, you wonder about other possibilities, but in the end it’s a choice to be with a certain person. Better or worse
the whole movie she’s practically emotionally cheating and then the SECOND peter talks to his ex she’s like BYE
IKR jens legit crying about her parents divorcing and ljs like "ur cheating"
nah peter was so secretive about everything with gen, at least LJ told peter about john. plus, peter was an all round asshole in this movie, it seemed like him and LJ had nothing in common and lacked chemistry
Mimi Is ace I mean Lara Jean ain’t innocent though. Sure she tells peter they’re working together but she still flirted with John Ambrose without telling him she had a bf, and never told peter she was having conflicting feelings. She broke up with him and basically blamed everything on him
I think those two things really inflamed her insecurities.

And it’s actually a testament to Lara Jean’s character that she doesn’t just drop Peter and run to John Ambrose on an emotional whim.

Same! The second book is my fav from the trilogy but the movie was so flat and cringey ugh

It’s so funny because PS is my least favorite book in the series yet I disliked the movie because it was too little like the book 😂😂 I was robbed of my John Ambrose content!

"the mentos of pent-up emotions falls into the coca cola that is Lara Jean" imagery.................. literal chills
She should’ve ended up with John!
@@hannahstephens9300 I don't recall that being the case in the books

i feel like they lowkey wrecked the first film by revealing that peter wasn't actually waiting for her in the hot tub
Ikr!!!
I think that's the whole point. I mean this is from a book and there all the story is developed way better.
It makes you realize what really happened that night
Trueee
Idk why but when i saw that scene I knew something was up. Peter looked very lost in thought. I knew he wasn't waiting for Lara Jean, so i guess the sequel didn't mess that up for me
Dammit, Lucas
I don’t know why Peter always gets so flustered when Laura Jean asks about Jen, like all he had to say is “Oh yeah I was with her.” and she’d be like “whYyYyY!?” And then all he had to say was “She’s having family problems and she needed help, I gave her comfort because as you know we are still friends.” THAT WOULD LITERALLY SOLVE EVERYTHING!
Can we talk about how this movie acts like she just now found out that John Ambrose found her letter and barely sees him at Belview but in the first movie he shows up at her house letter in hand and it's a completely different actor
Olly Enriquez I forgot about that!
Olly Enriquez omg.... I forgot about this!!
Do the writers/movie makers whatever even THINK 🤣
And he completely changes race. (Not that that's a bad thing, it's just funny)
Summer Brotman yeh i think it’s continuity issues
Literally just realized that Lara Jean and Peter always arguing about gen infront a bus
Lol
kidd imprint Ha
Prolly the same bus which ran over Regina George
It's like Peter's way of saying "i can run away on a bus whenever i want to and not even take the blame"
Mean girls could happen all over again
That break up scene with LJ singing as she floats thru the hall way of the school was cringey asf. In my mind I was like no don’t turn this into riverdale ! Tbh this whole movie was cringey and not in a good way. Like why would you end the movie with both of them kissing and floating in the air ?
Omg I was waiting for some one to bring that scene up!!! My physically hurt after cringing so hard at that scene😑
Miso Sama haha me too, I had to bring it up because no one else did. It was so painful to watch I was like wtf the entire time lol
I literally cringe when that scene came on, I was like this shit ain’t Riverdale
teens : ''he texted me good night it's like I'm a disney princess!!''
adults: ''alright so how messed up are you?''
kinda depressing tbh
anyone else find the “first date” scene cringe? LOL especially their little ad lib and improvised lines. it just didn’t have any natural flow. there were other scenes in the movie between LJ and Peter that also lacked chemistry :/
I totally agree that it was cringy however it feels to me like what caused it were directing choices and "mistakes" and not a lack of chemistry, because lana and noah had great chemistry in the first movie and in interviews too!
yes oh my god the writing was so un-natural there I'm so glad it wasn't just me
Tiffany Austin the whole movie was cringe
I always find it funny how people critique scenes for being awkward except that real life is like that sometimes. I can definitely see someone going on a first date and being awkward and weird about things like LJ was.
it wasn’t their fault it was the directing choices that were really bad i don’t like them i liked the first one much much better.
Am I the only one who hated how peter brought up john’s stutter from when they were younger??? That was very low of him. I almost cried cuz John is just too precious.
Marianne Grey yeah it made me really mad
He didn’t even apologize, it wasn’t like John was trying to steal Lara from him because Lara didn’t even have the decency to tell him she’s in a relationship
I agree with you.
Snatching Careers forreal 😡
Grace Less right?! And the way no one stood up for him!! Sigh
You could tell this movie was directed by a different director tho
oh it *definitely* was.
not only that, the first movie was directed by a woman. the second was directed by a man.
mazie don’t do that the firt one was directed by a WoMeN blah blah
I’m a girl and what you wrote is sexist and not okay
Naya oh no, it’s true. The first movie was incredible and this movie Lara Jean is now turned into a fickle, confused insecure girl and despite the millions of things Peter did wrong in the second book it was all erased to make her look terrible. That’s due to to the director and his choices. 🤷🏻♀️
Naya how is stating a fact sexist? It’s a movie from the perspective of a girl so naturally a woman might have more insight and know better how to tell the story
Danniie Foster i kinda of hated Peter in the second book, but in the movie he didn’t change at all
Lmao if someone actually wrote a poem that said “you have a face, and- and- it’s good.” I’d accept that more than a cheesy real poem lol
The three to all the boys books: exist
Netflix: okay so people we are going to make one movie and include everything from all 3 books and leave nothing interesting for sequels to this movie
The first movie: masterpiece
The second movie:
*includes Jordan Fisher*
Okay, Jordan Fisher is cute and hot (for me at least) but I expected that the guy from the first movie was going to be John Ambrose (since his description was basically that other actor)

there is something about this movie that seems off, to me, I felt like the actors didn't want to do it and the storyline was kinda bad and just everything about this one screamed 'boring and awkward', while the first one was much, much better than this
p.s: I got this all from Alex and Dylan videos, I just couldn't keep watching the movie after the first 5 minutes

I just love that I found someone who watches both Alex and Dylan :D

we just gonna disregard the fact that john ambrose showed up to lara jean’s door at the end of the first movie but in the second movie he writes her back and looks completely different from how he did in the first movie????
They recasted him. Jordan Fisher wasn't originally going to be John Ambrose.
At the end of the first movie? I don’t remember seeing him in the first movie.
@@nishnabay2881 it’s like after the ending where they walk off the field it cuts to john ambrose ringing the doorbell

this sequel was 100% not needed. the only thing it added to the overall plot is lara and gen’s friendship but other than that the first movie was fine by itself.
They're probably going to make a movie based on the third book too
Literallyyyyy. The whole movie was so awkward 😬
Ria Dang so we’re getting it sometime this year, maybe
It's based off books
*Pros about the movie:* John Ambrose, Kitty, retiring home, Lara resolving her conflict with Gen, Lara forming a friendship with John, the M&M scene,
*Cons:* how Peter was acting, how Lara just ditched John like that at the end, how rushed the ending was, how flat the plot was, accomplishing nothing major throughout the entire movie, the random lip syncing scene in the hallway, Ross Butler’s character,
Personally I think Ross buttler's character was good.
WTHnada you’re exactly right
This movie was so disappointing because the plot in the second book is so good and just makes you want to know more but i think this movie really just butchers everything

The book was so much better at handling the whole conflict and the dance was 40s themed and it was really cute
Lara Jean really played with John Amrbose’s feelings in this movie, at least the books gave him an optimistic ending.
we lit I haven’t read the book and this ending made me really mad, what hope did they give him if you don’t mind me asking?
Lauren Stangl I don’t quite remember, but basically Lara and Peter broke up quicker, for a longer time, and for more valid reasons. John and Lara begin hanging out. Eventually when hanging out, John basically admits that Lara should be with Peter. She objects at first, but realizes that he’s right and they stay friends. John goes back to his hometown and actually gets a girlfriend, despite it being long distance.
i hate how it’s literally barely like the book, they don’t mention stormy as much or how she’s john ambroses grandma. it’s dumb
Aniston Stormy isn’t even funny in this movie lol the movie is so angsty with barely any plot. And Mrs Rothschild is such a last minute rushed in sideplot compared to the books.

@Megan Berrisford nah fuck john. Fuck lara too for playing around while she has a bf.
Here’s some of my thoughts on the movie
1. They hired a different director for this movie and it shows
2. The costuming and production design for this movie looked so ridiculously over the top like someone just put an insane amount of vsco filters on everything, mainly in the senior home. The first movie definitely had this but it looked a lot lore natural
3. Absolutely nothing happens with John Ambrose. They build up to them kissing 5 minutes before the movie ends and then she just goes back to peter and he’s supposedly okay with it and we never see him again???
4. I hated the retconning of the hot tub scene because the whole point of that scene was her accepting that someone could actually like her and if he was waiting for someone else than it defeats the whole purpose of the scene
So yeah I guess I didn’t like this movie
I agree
Completely agree with the hot-tub. That was their first real moment and it turns out it wasn’t even real for him.
Yes all of this
Noor Jehan I couldn’t agree more, at first I thought it was just me, but apparently not. And they left so much out about the necklace and everything in the book🤦🏻♀️

Jessy oh thank you for explaining. The book does sound better wow

The image was always so green
Someone said her picking Peter makes perfect sense as someone who has never actually been in a relationship and it's obsessed with romcoms. Anytime a girl has to choose a guy in a romcom, she always picks her "first love" cuz they have "history" or whatever. That could also account for some of her insecurity. Gen was Peter's "first love"

This is another movie trope: Whoever gets there first wins.
Can't imagine why so many young people stay in relationships they turned garbage long ago.
probably because movies show them that it can "work out"
I see this trope in almost all romance related media & I HATE it so much!!!!! Like sometimes it’s fine bc the first person is fine, but sometimes you can tell that they’ d be better off if they broke it off & moved on. Also i wish more media would show that relationships end & its ok not to stay with one person for the rest of your life
It’s like Alex said too,Peter and Laura have nothing in common(sure opposites attract but they have to at least have something in common)
beta yeah, if a super biotchy girl and a super nice boy dated, that wouldn’t work out because they have nothing in common
Jane the virgin killed this
Why do we even expect the movies to be better than the books?
Haven't we learned our lesson yet??
Nah we never learn atleast I never do🤣
Movies are never supposed to be better than the books.
The books weren’t even that good either lmao
Clearly they haven't

That movie was really hard to watch especially because NOTHING HAPPENED! The whole movie is just a whole bunch of nothing. They don't do anything super interesting, there is no actual character development, no questions to be answered and in the end they are at the same point that they started at. They didn't try to disguise them as interesting people anymore. Having had a group of friends in middle school that kinda fell apart is just boring, normal life, not a whole movie plot.
True that I'mma finish the movie just so Netflix can stop telling me to continue to watch
