Small note: In this video, I combined topic and theme as one and I just realised they are also two different things. I’m still figuring it out and learning the fine differences between these things!:)
That was exactly the video I needed to start the new year off, cheers. I didn't know you were nominated for an Eisner! cool. Can't say I'm surprised tough, really nice work. Line work and colour is really, really nice.
Thanks Matt. Yes, it was nice to be nominated for that comic. But doing it again is another matter😄 Every comic story is a new challenge and it’s a constant thing to learn and try to make the next comic good one:)
I needed a video like this to get started. I can understand now that i don't need to be like the next moebius to publish, in your case, the style is simple but beautiful and eyecatching, it also works well with the type of narrative you go for. Thank you man, really.
Thanks for the note. So glad to hear. Yeah I realise the comics I produce will never be perfect. So I can’t wait for that to happen. Just want to get my stories told. So if I want to do them, I just need to show up to do it until it is done. Does take some discipline over 3 pages. So one tip would be to aim for shorter lengths first. 1 page stories are very doable. 3-5 takes more stamina. 20+ pages does take some endurance haha. But it’s rewarding when a story is done.
Thank you so much for your videos on writing comics, honestly this is so well explained and in such a simple matter ! This helped me tremendously ! Hopefully I'll FINALLY finish a story... I've been wating to make my own comic for years on end, but I lack confidence and clarity sometimes ! Thanks a lot
so happy you're making these videos Andrew! I love my copy of Ollie Comics, as well as your work - it's so cool to learn about your process and see your train of thought as you make work! Thank you!
Thanks Dan:) so cool coming from a fellow comic artist! Hoping the video will help explain some things for the new autobiographic comics project at school😄 see u at school?
Oh i think that might be another Dan Wong - I live in the UK!!! :) but I try to learn as much as I can from as many places as possible (experimenting, books, youtube etc), so your channel is really helpful and insightful!@@Drewscape-art
@@danwongphotohaha my mistake! There is another Dan Wong here who does comics and teaches! Yes keeping that learning spirit going is how we get better at our art. Keep going Dan!
Thank you! This is such a great video!! You had already inspired me to try and make some daily comic strips as a 2024 goal. So far I’ve only had a single storytelling panel, because my days have been pretty uneventful. Love your channel and all the insights you share!
Cool that u already have single panel stories. Those are challenging to do too. I grew up with Gary Larson’s Far side and I have an appreciation for single panel comics:)

To paraphrase Lloyd Kaufman of Troma Entertainment: Now you have the storyboard, you can shoot your own damn movie :-)
Yes and the storyboard seems to be the most challenging part:)
