I've looked up so many tutorials on this very subject. This is the best one I've seen. It's to the point, it's careful and considerate. And it gives key information in a non-patronizing manor. Truly incredible.

In particular, here are the specific similarities I noticed: In fiction writing, it's important to give information in the right order, to avoid confusion, just like how in comics, it may be useful to orient the reader with a wide shot. Fiction also "zooms" in and out, so to speak. To "zoom out," in fiction, the writer can use more impersonal language, to describe a scene in a straightforward manner, without overwhelming the read. To "zoom in," the writer can use more characterful or sensory language. You can even control time, in fiction, by changing the length of sentences, or by changing their rhythm. You can even use line-breaks to create physical space on the page, just like with comics, or by changing the length of your paragraphs.

Thank you, Oliver. I do seem to like a muted palette. Perhaps it goes with my personality haha. I do like to do a colour balance adjustment with my colours too, to keep them cohesive.

the fluidity of reading seems to be something very delicate in stylized pages, in the Sandman comics, I had to read several pages repeatedly because I couldn't understand the order in which the panels should be observed to make sense. What's funny is that in this same comic there are several other pages that manage to bring stylization and a fluid reading.
Oh yes. In Sandman, they do try out many ways of panelling. They may use colour as well as eye flow to guide the eyes. Pretty fun and challenging to do as an artist. I tend to do simple panelling since I cover everyday mundane stuff. But to capture excitement and fear and such, slanting, fast cuts, alternating the sizing helps enhance the story. It increases the risk that it becomes hard to read. So I find the basic eye flow directions should still be observed for fluid reading. And that’s the fun challenge to balance it all😂
The guy in the forest? That’s just one of the stories in my graphic novel, Monsters, Miracles & Mayonnaise. That one was drawing with a simple ball point pen on photocopy paper. With colours added in photoshop:)

I struggled with figuring out when to use small or big boxes along with wide or narrow shots. The space=time advice really helped.
Nice! And also, I did’t cover it, but a bigger panel can also provide more impact. (As well as have the reader linger in that panel for longer.)
