  • I apologize on how rushed this video may feel. First time doing these kinds of videos. Hope you enjoyed it!
This model did contain the Nvidia 8400M GS video card with 256mb of dedicated video ram. I ran the machine with windows 10 1511 as I have found this version of windows to run really well on older core 2 duo CPUs.

For sure! I honestly didn’t know what it was till I looked it up but yeah I can definitely try it. Did you want me to play it on this machine or just in general? I’m glad to hear you subscribed!

I accidentally locked my FN key and didn't know how to unlock it. Turns out the Num Loc key will unlock it

I have one of these and currently have the problem that it’s not turning on, which another video indicated might be a faulty USB port and if that’s disabled can come on again. Maybe the problem is that I have a DVD in it, this was practical for watching DVDs and that’s basically what I used it for over the past several years… Now I have a DVD in there and it’s stuck and does not want to come out ;-) … do you think that if I have the USB thing taken care of, I don’t think I have the experience to try it on my own but know somewhere I think can do it, do you think then that the DVD features should work? (including spitting it back out! 😂)
It’s been a very reliable machine for me otherwise, served me for a good number of years! I’m not a gamer, did more Word documents etc. for translations and so on.

Oh nice, most of these laptops with the nvidia video card like mine have either all failed or are experiencing end of life issues which I think is what is happening to yours if it won’t turn on. The Vostro line wasn’t intended to last forever and no machine ever has a guarantee on how long it will last. Maybe the USB port could be an issues but in my finding, either the port won’t flat out work or the machine will keep erroring with a usb message that says something along the lines of too much voltage or a generic error. I would try and see if you can get the dvd drive out of the laptop, it should have a paper clip sized pin hole to manually eject it. I’m not sure it there is already one on the case but I would give that a try. Good luck!

@@fazedawaymachinesonline thanks for your speedy reply!
Someone else gave me the tip about the paper clip hole as well, but I don’t see one. It’s just for inserting like into a sleeve, no hole to pop anything out (I think you called it a slot drive) have I missed a little hole somewhere?… 🤔

@@beccismith4454 You’re welcome ☺️, if there’s not one in the plastic bezel most likely you’ll have to take out the dvd drive which isn’t that bad to do. Once it’s out there is a small pin hole, push on it with a paper clip or mechanical pencil but preferably paper clip and it should mechanically release unless the mechanical eject is broken, give that a try and see if it works. Other than that I would say replace the drive, might be a little harder to find since it’s a slot loading drive

Quick question, is the charger pin of this laptop any different than the the present day DELL charger pins? I know we have two diameters and this uses the bigger diameter but is the little pin inside any different? Thanks.

It shouldn't be different where the charger plugs into. I've used the the big barrel style on all of my dell laptops since 2004 machines to as late as some 2021 dell models. The big barrel style Dell DC jacks have always been the same size. The only way that they vary is how the DC jack is plugged into the laptops motherboard (the white connector). It is vastly different from inspirons and latitudes. Most XPS and Inspirons will use the smaller style barrel DC jack.
