Exploring Mala Strana, also known as Lesser Town, was so much fun. Prague Castle is probably the most visited part of the city next to Old Town when it comes to tourists. And even if our film camera ended up having a few issues during the day, we still had such a blast.

Goodness. There is something so utterly romantic and dreamy about film. I’ve truly lost interest in digital photography, but not photography itself. You guys have so strongly inspired me to pursue film photography. Especially your Prague videos. I love anything old and European, so this is like my love language. Man. I just need the breath of fresh air... the slowing down and being intentional. I’m so excited. Thank you. (Also, Canon A1 is most definitely the film camera I’m going for!)

Perfect music for this video, the red roofs remind me of our trip to Croatia. Loved the shots from the tower, made me realize how big the city was. When we were there, just saw a small section of the city. The website, and your blog posts are such a nice way to round out your videos. Can't wait to read and see more of your adventures in vanlife.

So many memories once again, specially at the start of the video. I have to say i never went into that Castle Tower and it is a shame on me, because the views from there are just fantastic.

Ah the perils of 35mm cameras. If you have taken the majority of your photos at the wrong ISO setting don't worry too much. If you have loaded a 400 ISO film, and your camera was set to 200 ISO, when you give your film in for developing let them know, they can either Push or Pull process the film to compensate. It's all a learning curve. Just think 20 odd years ago there was no TH-cam, we had to learn the hard way by taking roll after roll of film. You should write down the camera settings for each shot you take and by comparing these settings to the picture they relate to you will learn by how much your camera over or under exposes in tricky lighting. You may have noticed that when you take a backlit shot your camera under exposes by about 1.3 stops.

Wild We Roam got my first roll of film back last week, turned out so cool. Excited to experiment with different rolls next, shooting tri-x right now!

Wild We Roam The a-1 definitely is a good piece of equipment, if you can handle it. I always have a hard time focusing the lens on something when I go out to do some long time exposure late in the evening. So for this I prefer my Canon eos 5 because it has autofocus and a built in focusing light. For other things like doing macros at day time the a-1 is really at its best for me and with the lenses I have with it I get really good looking pictures. I still have to buy a decent scanner though because the only way to get my photos into a digital format at the moment is scanning the enlarged positives that I get from the developer with a standard scanner that does not have the lamp in the lid to scan negatives. I would also really like to develop my own photos myself but my parents do not think it is a very great idea to do that. I also don't really have enough time for that because of school and for the 3 Euro that I have to pay for a 24 exposure roll of film to get it developed, I don't really want to go through the hassle of building myself a darkroom and stuff like that anyway. But that is just me talking right now, maybe I will try it later.
So many videos dedicated to Czech! Amazing and beautiful as always, maybe now people will finally remember this country (not Czechoslovakia) ! X
I have a question and forgive my ignorance please. I work at the airport in Montreal and have met with several citizens if the Czech Republic. It is clear that they really don't like their country being referred to by its old name. Why does the old name, Czechoslovakia , cause such feelings? Is this a feeling about former Soviet rule? I'm asking the question with all due respect understand.
Brendan Mathers I'm Czech, but i was born already to Czech Republic. My opinion is, some people just think we were stronger together and some think opposite. Czech And Slovakian people have just really close to themselves... But why we just correct people when they say Czechoslovakia is probably very easy - just want others to name our country with right name. There's nothing deeper about it, at least for me.
It is just because we are now two countries with different governments (the Slovakian one being quite unfortunate at this moment). It's like disregarding that Yugoslavia no longer exists. To us it feels like people are ignoring history-we separated more than twenty years ago!
Just wanted to chime in and and say how wonderful it is to see such an intelligent, well mannered discussed on youtube, this kind of thing is rare and should be celebrated!!! ---Lou
I was born a Czech in Praha in 1965 my generation understands it as a friendly divorce some people call it ethnic cleansing the Czechs and slovaks are two different nationalities like Puerto Ricans and Mexicans are both Hispanics but different nations

Both cameras we shoot fully manually for focusing, and yes, we'd love to do a colorgrading video soon! ---Lou

what setting do you use to shoot indoors ?
Hi Elisa, are you talking video camera or film camera, the film we just shoot wide open, and hope for a shutter speed above 50, but sometimes we push it a stop or two to get there, its tricky! The video camera we shoot at f4 and an iso between 800-2000 which looks okay but not great ; ) ---Lou

when lou is fixing the camera, what does he mean he pushed it last night? I've heard that phrase but don't understand! also these videos are my favorite, there's like no other youtuber's doing this. i'd love if you talked about what specs you used on these photos! especially the low light ones
Katelyn Think he means he was shooting a film as if it was a higher ISO than what he had in the camera. So a 400 speed film shot with 800 set on the camera and then the film gets developed for slightly longer than normal.

Wait, so the A-1 doesn't work without batteries? I thought it was just the Meter
Shutter and film advance need the battery to function on that camera too.
But... Why is that a problem? I just got myself an a-1 and I noticed this too and immediately bought a new battery. At least here in Germany you can still buy the v28pxl batteries at photography shops for round about 6 Euro.
Yup, but luckily the battery should last a really long time, we've only ever bought one so far! ---Lou

You should get a fully mechanical film camera so you don’t need to worry about batteries anymore

Wild We Roam not if you were to use a nikon fm that has a built in light meter. When the two coin cell batteries run out on this one, you can still shoot without them just dialing in the settings to what you think is right.
Like your videos but said it in another of your videos too; probably check your scan process: A1 + 50mm FD + 400h should give much brighter, less contrasty/saturated photos. Less muddy. Example: flic.kr/p/mJGXCK

yeah we aren't really happy with the scan process either, but now that were moving into the van the scanner is gone, as is the developing kit, so maybe the pros we send it to will do it better, not sure what kind of developing setup we will find on the road... ---Lou
Great video! But fix the camera as soon as possible, it is a very bad thing. Poor camera :/
It could be worse... I have an old exakta vx 2a from 1961 and that one has holes in its shutter so the photos get white dots all over the place. In this case here it's just the battery so you can fix the camera in a few days that it would take to order a new battery from amazon
