This was the first roll of film that I shot in Prague and I am so happy with how it turned out. I don’t want to spoil the video for you if you haven’t watched yet, but let's just say the Bridges & Boats theme expands a bit as the day progresses.
I mention at the end of the video how breaking my arm forced me to slow down with the camera. Before the injury when Lou and I would shoot these videos more often than we’d like to admit the actual shooting of the film wasn’t the focus. Instead the composition of the video took priority. Sometimes there would be moments where I would think there was a photo I’d like to take and then Lou would film me walking over and as I pulled up the camera, I would realize that the shot wasn’t actually something I liked or thought worthwhile enough to capture. But knowing that he was already rolling (and we shoot RAW so file size is always an issue not only for storage but our memory cards too!), I would just take the shot. So long story short, on this roll we had to change our workflow - instead in almost all of the photographs, I would go compose my shot, figure out my settings, and then Lou would start rolling and I would go take the photograph. Not only did I feel way less rushed and like I was composing better, but I also had way more FUN! It felt like I was actually taking the time to see the world around me and choose the scenes that were most interesting to me. Film photography is just a hobby of mine, but shooting on this trip to Prague made me realize how it can actually help me remember to slow down and focus on the important things instead of just trying to complete the task at hand.

Omg I had to watch the video twice just cuz of how much I loved the photos. I don’t know if it was because of the weather or lighting or something but Ultramax 400 made the photos look so old in the prettiest of ways. It had that “grandparents’ old box full of photos from their youth” kind of vibe and I loved it. Somehow it worked perfectly because Prague is such an old city and the photos gave it that sweet sweet Eastern European vibe that I love so much. I’m definitely adding Prague to my list of favorite cities to visit and making it my personal goal to find those swans and dedicate an entire roll of film to them because they truly are a thing of beauty. Dedicating a whole roll to the swans is a great idea, we would have loved to have more photos available when we got there because it was such an incredible scene, especially when they come feed the swans with buckets of leftover bread, it turns into a crazy frenzy! You are the only analog photographers whose photos i actually like. Your photos make feel small and that there's so many things to see out there. Something between nostalgia, mystery and adventure.

I started film photography a little while ago. Sometimes I wonder if I made the right choice and I think about "film vs digital". Then I watch this kind of youtube video and finally "film" always wins the match at the end.
So glad you liked this one! There are definitely benefits to either medium, it just depends on what you want to achieve, but theres nothing like the experience of exploring a new city with a fresh roll of film ; ) ---Lou

So glad you guys are making videos again. Great comment at the end about the broken arm (sorry that happened) but film in general slows down the photo process. Knowing you only have 24 or 36 shots to capture what you want really makes you think about the act of taking the photo. It's good to slow down once in a while, helps you to focus on why you got into photography in the first place!

I love living vicariously through you guys and traveling the world :) It would be really awesome if you could sometimes post a video of your work flow in the van - or do you find yourself now working more in coffee shops and public spaces? Also curious in general where you park, whether you need permits, general daily life. Got to say that you're super brave embracing van life in the coldest season of the year AND with a broken arm. Shows how dedicated and passionate you are. Hope the van-home is becoming cozier each day. Stay warm guys!

Yeah I'm pretty impressed with the Ultra Max, I didn't know much about it but it looks really good I think and the scanner could handle it a little easier as well for some reason! ---Lou

Wild We Roam Niiice Lou! Do you know what? Ended up my roll and have to choose where to bring it and have it developed! Big thing for me right now. I have two options in mind, the neighborwood shop I used to go all my life or a lomography store. I believe I will choose option #1 if their opening hours suits me

That the best thing about shooting film, it forces you to slow down and think about what you are shooting. Do you ever get stop by people when they see you shooting film?
Nope, no one ever really notices the film camera, I think there are more people shooting film now these days, but we did get recognized a few times on Prague which was really cool, from people who watch the channel : ) ---Lou

Hey guys, it's always good to watch one of your videos, your editing is on point! I was glad I gave you good pieces of advices a few months ago! Try overexposing a stop next time you shoot color-negative film, it will handle it greatly and the overall shadow will have even more details

I'm really not trying to be an "expert" here, but the thing about overexposing film is that it will make the negs really dense. In that way they have "more informations"on them, so when you get to tweak images, you have more to work with. Recently I've saved a wrong exposure, 4.00 minutes instead of 2.00, just because film has great latitude....plus it's great for skin tones. That being said all the pictures were really nice! Good Work!!

I am a beginner in photography and wanted to ask you a questions. In the video i didn't see you change the shutter speed or aperture. Do you just choose what is best for the iso of the film and stick with that throughout. Because say the lighting changed throughout the day, would you not have to change the settings as well?
Hi Rimsha, we shoot on aperture priority mostly, which just means that we pick the aperture and the camera decides the shutter speed, so its pretty easy, and then theres a meter inside the camera where you can see what shutter speed its picked, and if its too high (blinking) or too low than you need to ajust the aperture accordingly! ---Lou
Hey guys! You make wonderful videos and I love to watch them! :-) I also bought an A1 about two month ago and I realized that it has that terrible sound when taking pictures. I am not shure but it sounds like your camera has the same problem. So maybe you should bring it to the camera service to be shure that everything is ok. I fixed the problem myself with a youtube-tutorial and it wasn´t that difficult. Just look for "Canon A1 squeak". Now it sounds soooo great! :-) I am looking forward seeing more of your pics and videos!! greets from vienna!

We've been trying to decide if we want to, these ones we didn't because all these videos are sponsored, but I don't think we will end up doing it because it takes a lot of water and there really isn't room for all the chemicals and stuff! ---Lou
are you edited your 35mm photos after scaning? how they so colorful and clear are?
Yes, we do some color correcting to try and get back to what it should look like because we cant get the scanner to bring the photos in correctly! ---Lou

thats just a photo that was taken too dark and then the shadows are lifted in lightroom to get that look ; ) ---Lou
