- If you've watched our last two videos you might have noticed I was a bit of a wild child - I loved running outside, inventing new games, and playing sports, but my wildness was contained to suburban life. Unlike Lou, I spent very little time spent exploring the woods, camping, and hiking.
In fact I grew up always thinking I was a beach person, and up until now that has defined me in a strange way, but spending time in Berchtesgarten, something changed inside me. I fell in love with the mountains, with the challenges you can face when you go outside of your comfort zone, and the breathtaking beauty that comes with getting to the top of a hike. It was a hard hike and for those who watch the video to the end you'll definitely see a bit more raw emotion than you're used to on the channel.
Also, I've decided to reinstate the question of the week :) So, for this week if you've read this far, please let me know - Do you love hiking? And if yes, where is the most beautiful hiking trip/camping trip you've ever taken?

I'm so happy you two found the trail in the end...Seeing Dana cry made my heart cramp :-( I hope the two nights were lovely and made up for the terror of being lost in the woods! That happened to me and my parents on a hike in the Adirondacks...not a fun thing to have happen.

your adventures and love for each other is incredible. The way you two keep each other going even when nothing is going right is just beautiful. I love watching you two. I cried when you started crying because you finally made it. I went into the mountains with my husband once and we weren't lost but a storm rolled in and we were so close to the clouds it sounded like the thunder was touching me. I have never been so terrified in life.
And once again...great and authentic storytelling (and of course highly visually pleasing as always :) I can imagine the amazing feeling when you've finally made it to the (hopefully) warm and cozy room in the Krählingerhütte

I think I've been there before! the boat and the church are so familiar! This video made me tear up a little, because it feels like that's exactly what I need in my life right now ... It was such a beautiful video and you're so lucky you've found each other and we're lucky you've decided to share those moments with us, really. (also don't cry Dana!)
and to answer the question I've never done proper proper hiking but would LOVE to, and I've done some (a little though) in Kazakhstan, it was pretty beautiful but ended up being a disaster so ...

Aahh at the coffee shop with all the emotions after watching the video!! I'm not sure I love hiking but I do love the outcome. You know making it to the point/view, etc. Hubs and I love going to national parks and trying to push our limits. Its fun seeing people in different physical conditions try out a hike/trail.

I hate hiking, but I'm surrounded by people that love it, so I always end up doing it with them, in mountains. I hate going up, I enjoy being up though, but I hate coming down even more. My knees were not built for the downhill journey. Being up there though is rewarding. I love the views over Slovakia/Czecia/Poland the most of the places I've been.

Got lost on crinkle cragg in the Lake District uk. It was foggy and the path was unclear luckily we met other people who were also lost but they had GPS which got us down off the mountain before it got dark . What a relief 😅 xx We returned on another day and completed the climb in glorious weather . I felt your pain Dana and your relief . The mountains make me feel most alive . Xx
gahh that sounds so scary martina!!! we are thinking of investing in a GPS since we want to do a lot of hiking once were in the van and feel like this was too close of a call not to learn from it. i have been missing the mountains so much since this trip though. hoping 2018 brings much more time outside than 2017 for me. - Dana
Living in Singapore, hiking trails are very limited in our densely populated island, and doesn't provide much isolation or immersion in nature (skyscrapers are almost always within sight). I had the good fortune of travelling to Hong Kong last year alone, where I decided to take a few days to hike around the northern rural areas.
The best part of it was hiking up Tai Mo Shan (a 3134 ft mountain) at 3 am by flashlight to see the sunrise & explore the forest around it afterward. It was a relatively challenging hike; while it's certainly more navigable, it was my first time hiking up a mountain, the weather was freezing and the ground was slippery from the previous night's rain. However, the eventual reward of a solitary sunset, on a mountaintop, miles away from anyone was so wonderful, I still have dreams about it. Something changed in me that day.
Anyway, this was a beautiful story, and it's reawakened my itch to hike elsewhere. I'll definitely be checking in on the comments for hiking trip ideas! Thank you for sharing, as always! :)

I so....feel such admiration for what you are.....and you are planning to do and live by.....ah!!! youth and its dreams.....however you both are making them reality...rah rah rah!!! Yes, i love hiking. I have been doing it for a while, yet not to the extent you are.....i have been doing it in Canada which i consider awesome! I am so lucky to have grown up in the beautiful New Zealand, surrounded by forests and beaches and hiking galore! (although we call it tramping here)

Hi, I really enjoyed your video, what a crazy expirience. I'm a scout in Portugal, due to all the Scout camps i've been to I could understend the feeling of beeing lost in the middle of nowhere. You guys should come to Portugal, we have really nice rails in Gerês for hiking, it's beautiful.

And yes, love hiking. I'd say probably hiking in the highline trail in glacier n.p. or hiking to cathedral lake in Tuolumne meadows have been some of my favorites.

Growing up in Denmark, there aren't many hikes to do (it's an extremely flat country with no real hills or mountains - our highest point being 147m! haha). When I travel I love to go to the mountains! Probably one of my favourite hikes was the Tongariro Alpine Crossing in New Zealand. It was rough weather with snow and hail, even in the middle of summer, and by the time we made it down my feet were full of blisters. But it was such a beautiful landscape and I was so proud of myself for doing it afterwards!

I had the same fear while hitchhiking Europe. I imagined in case no car would stop for me- then I could get stuck in the middle of nowhere at night, alone, without any sleeping bag or roof above, as it could've rained too..in a foreign continent.... Some scary shit. But, I just wore my smile and kept thinking positively (very hard sometimes) and I made it. Passing through 3 countries in one day of hitchhiking.
You guys had each other, and it's important to believe that that's enough for you to make it. Keep cool. Sleep amongst the trees if needed. But, yeah...true..i would also start to think how much supplies we got, and if its enough, so i bet it was hard physically & mentally...But, man..the feeling of overcoming this. Damn..! So good :)
Keep up the good storytelling, and have more adventures like this!

Jesus, that was an EASY hike?? The rating system is clearly a lot different than in the US. That would have been "Expert/Highly Technical". Damn. I'm impressed that you guys kept it together after hiking for hours and then being lost in the rain with darkness not far away. Wow! This one was gripping and I'm impressed (like others) that not only did you do this but you got the essential video to make this Story. You two are incredible. ~ Greg
Right!?! We learned that lesson the hard way ; ) turns out ratings are based on technical features and danger, not on how hard it is to walk up or how much altitude is involved! Won't be making that mistake again, we're sticking to easy for a while before we dare going to intermediate! ---Lou
Zion Nat'l Park, Hidden Canyon Trail, tops for me. Nothing like clutching a chain to guide you along a 2 foot wide ledge trail...
Just a terrific video with the right elements of sound and visual that threw me into the emotion and feelings a hiker experiences under challenging rain and route uncertainty. Once again you two teach us the big lessons are all inside the head, not on the trail. Dana's sprint toward the finish line sure looked like raw emotion to me, no filters - nothing. My compliments on capturing and sharing the human spirit at its finest!

Hahaha, yeah, in the moment it WAS a little scary, mostly because we were too tired to hike down, so we would have had to sleep out there somewhere which would have been a miserably wet and cold night--we did have our sleeping bags though, which are great for the cold! ---Lou

I've never done a long enough hike that requires camping, but would love to try it one day. However, my current favorite hiking trail is "Lagoinh do leste" in Florianopolis Brasil. I will never forget it because a tarantula managed to crawl up to my shoulder and scare the crap out of me.

Aaawww I so love this video!!! I love hiking myself and am used to it since I was little sometimes not even realising how much I know about nature while on hike and yes it can be very challenging sometimes...I got lost few times but not in such wild mountains just in the hills or woods somehow always found my way but it can feel very desperate....mountains are beautiful once you reach the top but I guess one Need to be always aware that there are possible challenges to get there....you did amazing job with all those backpacks on such trail in such weather....I believe the relief was huge after facing ‘we might have to sleep out here’.
My best hike was probably back home in Slovakia or here in Scotland....I’d love to do hikes in America though (those national parks are so beautiful) and around Europe too.
I love hiking but I don't get as much opportunities to do so. I think the most beautiful hike/camping trip for me was my very first hike on a mountain. That place is forever imprinted in my memories. It's Tarak Ridge here in the Philippines and it was a supposedly hard climb for a beginner like me.
Oh goodness i just googled that mountain and it is beyond beautiful. I feel like we have so many people watching our videos in the Philippines and they always give us the most gorgeous recommendations of places to visit. I really hope lou and i can make it there one day! - Dana

ahhhh oh gosh so relieved we didn't meet any bears on the mountain!!! definitely going to get a GPS for our next big adventure so we stay safe as this was a little too scary for my liking : )- Dana
I love you videos! I've been to Konigssee. It was beautiful. And I love hiking :) Some of the most beautiful hikes I've done are "La pointe de Tardevan" , "La tournette", the 30 waterfalls of "Le Cirque du Fer-à-Cheval"

I think our best hike was up the Trolltunga (Norway). Left very early, because it is a popular spot. It was amazing

One of the most beautiful hikes I've done is the Annapurna Base camp without assistance from guides or porters. It was quite an experience.
