Shooting 35mm Film in Kreuzberg - Film February - Part 3 (Snippet 33)

- This is definitely my favorite roll of film of the series yet!! Playing around with double exposures and getting to spend some time with friends made it a really special experience. (My friend Luisa's instagram is @luyanoms - go check out her photos!) I highly recommend anyone watching who has a analog camera to figure out how to take double exposures and start experimenting. I already have so many other ideas swirling in my mind of what I could do with layered textures, with a tripod which would allow for more static shots, or with mixing photos of daytime and nighttime.
If you're like me, it is very easy to remember to take photos when you're traveling. Everything is brand new and you want to remember the trip, but then when you are in your own home, own backyard, own neighborhood (in the case of this video!) well sometimes it doesn't seem like that special of a moment to capture, but that is when we forget how precious the space around us really is. It provides us a vehicle for so many of our experiences. And while travel does create some fantastic memories, so many more of our memories are made closer to home, so I am really happy we were able to shoot a roll in Kreuzberg and capture the neighborhood that we love. This week helped me remember how lovely it is to capture the spaces we find ourselves in most often.

The A-1 is an amazing camera, and not only can you do double exposure, but I think you can repeat the process for as many Exposures as your little heart desires

Wow, the double exposures with your friends at the end turned out really good!
Also, batteries don't like sub-zero temperatures, their voltage drops too much under load; take it out of the camera and put it in your pocket close to your body to warm up for a while, it should hopefully improve things.
Otherwise, I'm loving your channel, keep it up ;)

Yay! Another great video! Tuesday has become my favourite day :-) Love all double exposures photographs - never thought it's so easy to make them! My favourite one is on 7:22, it turned pretty cool! I've been to Berlin in ferbruary a few years back only for a couple of days. Seeing this and these crazy good vibes I really want to go back in the winter and shoot some more there!
Hahaha, don't think anyone has ever said that before, I really wouldn't recommend it, its cold, gray, rainy, and theres not much light to work with but you do get some cool fog shots I guess : ) ---Lou

I definitely need to try double exposure, do you use the same settings as for a normal picture, or do you need to change it so it won't be overexposed?
My cameras are so old, but I hope there is a way for me to do this since I'm so impressed with the result!

Hey Anna! Thanks so much for the sweet comment. I'm so happy you enjoyed the video :) As for the double exposure - i actually still am shooting on aperture priority, so I didn't really change anything .... I think that our light meter naturally is underexposing the photos so when I double exposed it wasn't a problem at all. I think if you're shooting manually it might be worth underexposing each shot a bit so you dont blow it out, but I didn't really do anything special other than the double exposure itself. hope that helps!! xxx - Dana

Its great that the Canon A1 has specific settings to double expose! Its so much easier that way than pushing the rewind button and stuff. I have a minolta srt101b and its a bit annoying sometimes. Anyway, keep the good work!! (: ♡ cheers.

I'm so happy you enjoyed the video and all the photos :) We do edit them a bit because sometimes the scanner doesn't bring the colors in correctly, but I go look at what the film stock is supposed to be and then color correct accordingly. Ideally we'd have a super expensive fancy film negative scanner, but we don't have the ability to get that right now so this system works for us :) Hope that helps xxx - Dana

Hey guys, awesome video as always. lou, I recommend that you get a fd adapter so that when you guys get lenses, you can use them as well for filming. That shot at 7:56 would have been awesome with a manual focus lens. You could have done some really cool depth of field stuff. Anyhow, the quality is superb as always and I can wait for more. :)

That was so cool! I've never tried double exposure but now I want to! This is probably a silly question but do you know if you can still do it on a non film camera or does it have to be film? My favorites were the one of Lou and the rock face and the one of the faces of your friends. Very cool! Oh and just a trick I learned, if your camera starts freezing up like that sometimes just putting it under your coat will help and your body heat will help warm it up and get it moving again.
