Heck Christian, you are so engineeringly meticulous you melt my brain watching you build things, however was good to watch you building this second slide out draw system lol your friend is lucky (i think?) to have you available to assist with Disc3 repair/build projects. Actually as you know there are many videos and many people out there who love their Disco,s a little like when I was in my 20,s when we all had Landrover series trucks although I have to say Series Landrovers were very much easier to work on with no electrics to mention controlling them or monitoring the running of the engine whether petrol or diesel! But Id rather go continental driving in a Disco3 than any series Landy I have done many thousands of miles in series 3,s freezing my butt off with little heat and ears nearly bleeding with the noise and back killing me after off roading all day lol.... was great fun though, all the best Phil
😃👍 Thanks for your story, loved reading it. I do really like reading about all the travel adventures they did with the old Land Rover Series. Like in Strangers like Angels, and First Overland, the first London to Singapore adventure. 🙋♀️ Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian Thanks, I did many journeys in my old landrovers, I had a military air portable lightweight series 3 fitted with a V8 which I used to go in this country "green laining" to many lovely locations for a weekends driving challenging lanes and weekends camping. The most challenging drive I think was taking in the winter the landrover (soft top) 300miles to Scotland at Christmas, Very very noisy, very very cold with snow all the way and minus freezing temperature, so cold I tried to wash the road muck off the screen with warm water from a service statin but it froze immediately. 10 hours driving,, challenging but great fun and an achievement, when I got to Scotland in the morning after the drive up I checked the engine and 1st thing in the morning it was so cold that the anti_freeze was like the consistency of a slush puppy in the radiator and header tank! but the trusty old V8 still fired up and ran.. So Discovery 3,s I have to say are so much more comfortable in my late 50,s my wife and I are happier being warm and comfortable despite the more maintenance heavy requirement, Like you and Christian we have a good workshop here on our property including a 4 post lift ramp not a pit! so its not so hard to get under the vehicle....all the best have a good week nearly the weekend ... all the best Phil

Wonderful quality work and delivery thank you both. I have been waiting for the details on your drawer slide and delighted that it was for a Discovery 4 which I have. In fact I have a Discovery 2 as well so on average I have 2 Discovery 3's!
Hi Christian/Vera, you've been doing super work on Fabian's car! Your ingenuity is endless. One question, when does Fabian plan on doing the trip to Mongolia?
This looks like it could be good for the back of my Grenadier using the inbuilt utility rails to fix it to. A fridge and some storage boxes when needed and just empty for day to day use. Using the utility rails should make it easier to remove also.
Yeah the Grenadier's trunk is not as easy to work with as the Discovery's unfortunately. Because of the wheel cover your slider cannot be as wide. It is actually a really downside for us. We would have to think of a different setup. 🙋♀️Vera
Excellent as usual C&V, I had just been watching your first videos on the making of yours as I am going to try replicate make one for my Range Rover but it only has the 4 tie down clip bolts I think it should be strong enough though , naughty not wearing safety glasses on the drill cutting holes & shaving bits off a piece could have flown out under your spectacles Christian safety first you are a really talented fabricator couple as I know Vera does a lot of the work off camera 😊👍
@MrSidestick72 there is no rattleing at all. When the tailgate is closed, the lower part, the movable cover of the gate hinge, is slightly pressing against the drawer, keeping the drawer in its place. 🙋♀️ Vera
Very good indeed! Two quick questions: Was it absolutely necessary to remove seats 6 and 7 to fit the drawer? Could the slide rails have been of a type that allows the entire shelf to be removed so that rear seats could be used again? I was thinking of a similar slide rail that is often used in kitchen drawers with a lever that allows this happen. My own Discovery 3 , which is mainly used on my farm would benefit from your drawer to carry tools. But occasionally has to be able to carry 7 people. So if the drawer could be easily removed, this would benefit me. If not, your drawer would be so useful to me, that passengers 5 and 6 will have to learn to use their legs again!
Hello Richard, the seats do not have to be removed in order to mount this drawer. And according to the manufacturer of those particular slides, you can release them and take only the drawer out. Now we actually did not take something like that into consideration when designing the drawer, since we only have a five seater and no access to a 7 seaters with installed seats. Fabian took his out. So if we have an exact measurement from the rear seats, edge to edge, Christian would love to include a design for this situation, being able to still use it as a 7 seater. Maybe you can give us the measurements. 🙋♀️ Vera
I really wished i had the machining equipment you have, not that i would know how to do the stuff you did but it would give me bad ideas/projects for my land cruiser.
Hi Christian & Vera thanks for anther great video, can you help me please, I remember Christian showing Vera how to use the HDC ( Hill Descent Control) on the road showing in normal road use, but to help controlling the discovery 3 when driving down a hill. Can you tell me witch video it was as I have tried to find it again, but I have had no luck finding it, can you help me please? Regards Chris.
Hi Christian Vera My discovery 3 SE has the two extra seats. and I’ve been thinking of installing some sort of sliding shelf I’m wondering weather to keep the seats or take them out. To be honest I have never used them there’s always a load mat over them that’s a Brilliant sliding shelf that you have installed . I thought you mentioned that it came from Amazon ! If so what’s the item called or number thanks
All links are can be found in the video description. Now if we had excact measurements of the rear seat, edge to edge, Christian could take that information into his design so you would be able to utilize your last row of seats. According to the manufacturer of the slides, you can unlatch them and take just the drawer out, but have not tried that. We just need the measurements of the seats folded down. But you can also leave the seat is folded down. 🙋♀️ Vera
Thanks for the great vid, Vera and Christian. May I asked, what brand and type of band-saw cuts the alu-material? Is it good for mild and stainless steel, too? Regards Heinz
@@Vera_and_Christian Hi Vera, thanks for the quick response. Perhaps, the operator can choose between different blades? If I only would know the brand and model of the saw, I could check myself. Have a nice day. Regards Heinz
Hi Vera, hi Christian, as I have a 7-seater Disco 4, l'm wondering, if it is really necessary to remove the seats. I could fix the side mounting angle components with two bolts and a few distance washers into the lashing eye mounting holes (two on each side). Or do you think it's not rigid enough? Best wishes and thank you for all your contribution here...
Our drawer is compatible with the 7-seater. The side cover carpets must be removed and in the worst case you install some spacers. Fabians LR3 was also a 7-seater with the seats removed. Christian
This was really impressive, very nice attention to detail! Did you guys ever get round to finishing the manufacturing plans? Can you also supply a few stickers of LR TIME AND DUMB ARSE OIL FOR THE BEER FRIDGE PLEASE WITHIN THE DONATION PLEASE? An Aussie on walkabout in the UK and forgotten to go home,😂. Cheers, Craigo
it is a good idea, well done I may do it too why did you start with uneven angle? wish I had a mill, I have a 900 throat Rapid bandsaw, three-phase, Iwill make a vid to show you, but not good at that, would like to send you some pics captive nuts I did see how you fastened the rails to the disco floors.
Hi Stuart, the hatch of the Discovery is at an incline when opened, so it does not lie flat. So if you mount the slides evenly, you loose about 3- 4 cm of height. There wouldn't be enough space for our Engel fridge otherwise since we also want to utilize the wooden platform resting on top of the plastic side cover. As for captive nuts, they are a great idea but we just did not have any at that time. And yes, the great thing about the Discovery is that it has threads on the floor from the tie down hook. 👍🙋♀️
Love your work and your videos. I'm in South Africa. Do you still send out stickers? I saw that you did not have anyone from Africa requesting for them 👍

We pay 450€ Tax, but that is for our 2006 plate. Newer ones pay more. And the insurance is about 500€ with the least amount of coverage, by that I mean what we get for the damage on our own car caused by us. 🙋♀️ Vera
Clearly, this entire task would be much easier if you could just design the drawer on CAD software and then CNC mill all the parts. Maybe time to inform Vera that you need a new toy?

It is this one th-cam.com/video/cQ0zStW7tW8/w-d-xo.html, at the end. 😃🙋♀️ Vera
high quality
Did you weight the draw? Id be interested in the total mass of the draw installation. It is very smart though, very inspirational.
It weights for sure 15 - 20 Kg. Depending on the material you use. 🙋♀️ Vera
Hi Christian Vera
My discovery 3 SE has the two extra seats. and I’ve been thinking of installing some sort of sliding shelf I’m wondering weather to keep the seats or take them out.
😃👍 The sawblade on our band saw is not permanently suitable for mild steel. It will get blunt. Christian just runs a cheap blade. 🙋♀️ Vera
Christian
Hi Vera & Christian, do you have a solution for quick removal drawer when we need to used seat 6&7
Could you built one for 2018 Range Rover sport ?
This was really impressive, very nice attention to detail!
Did you guys ever get round to finishing the manufacturing plans?
I would love to have a go at making one of these drawers for my own Discovery 4, however without plans it’s quite a task, could I donate or buy the plans from yourselves to support the channel?
Keep up the great videos, love from England 🏴
Yes, we have them. Send me an email please (you can find it in the channel description, I cannot publish my email here in the comment section or share thet link, TH-cam will delete this comment then). 👍🙋♀️Vera
G’day, Keep up the good work that you both do and I am a subscriber to the channel and very much look forward to each Sunday posting of the latest offering’s.
I have a Discovery 4 Commercial as a service breakdown vehicle that I would like to replicate the the sliding tray for the our tool boxes, as stated by Mark-yl3ye above in his post to you both, can I denote or buy the plans / cutting list and support the channel?
Can you also supply a few stickers of LR TIME AND DUMB ARSE OIL FOR THE BEER FRIDGE PLEASE WITHIN THE DONATION PLEASE?
An Aussie on walkabout in the UK and forgotten to go home,😂.
Cheers,
Craigo
it is a good idea, well done I may do it too
why did you start with uneven angle?
wish I had a mill, I have a 900 throat Rapid bandsaw, three-phase, Iwill make a vid to show you, but not good at that, would like to send you some pics
captive nuts
I did see how you fastened the rails to the disco floors.
I saw that you did not have anyone from Africa requesting for them 👍
👍 Send me an email with your adress. 🙋♀️ Vera
Impressive !
Would you build one for my Discovery 4 ? I work in film and carry lots of gear this would be perfect for me
We are thinking about selling at as a kit 👍🙋♀️ Vera
what size are the runners .
Saluti Emme Emme
Great Job again! Looks awesome!
Could you Tell Me how much do you Pay for the tax and car insurance in Germany? Greetings from Poland!
We pay 450€ Tax, but that is for our 2006 plate. Newer ones pay more. And the insurance is about 500€ with the least amount of coverage, by that I mean what we get for the damage on our own car caused by us. 🙋♀️ Vera
Wow! In the Netherlands you'd pay €3.500 a year in tax for a diesel disco. €2.000 for petrol.
Nice 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
SHHHH don't mention the football lol ..... sorry christian had to be done haha
Fantastic work! Would you be interested in building me one? I also have a discovery 3 here in Germany with 340k km and still going strong!
😅If we ever get done with Fabians engine. Send us an email and maybe we can figure something out. 👍🙋♀️ Vera
@@Vera_and_Christian i will be back in the UK in the next few weeks if you need parts let me know 👌
I would buy a kit for building it.
That is the plan 😃👍🙋♀️ Vera
Clearly, this entire task would be much easier if you could just design the drawer on CAD software and then CNC mill all the parts.
Maybe time to inform Vera that you need a new toy?
That is a genius idea 👍 Christian
Well-done Dr. C! If you manufactured a kit I bet you could quit your day job.
I agree with you Allen, I actually thought that too lol
For sure. I would buy one of these today.
🏴
I was gonna unsubscribe but you told me not to... phew lucky!
Somehow I got the suspicion that this system might outlast the LR3.
😅👍 Most likely 🙋♀️ Vera
I could now understand why my Volkswagen is so overly engineered.
Sex bolt, Chicago screw, barrel nut all are acceptable
I told him it's called sex bolt, he didn't believe me 🙄😄🙋♀️ Vera
A German approximation is better than the Chinese being accurate
DO NOT WEAR GLOVES when work with drilling machine!!!!
gloves on a drill press!!!
hearing protection plz!!!! ruin your hearing at rock concerts....😁
Hi Christian and Vera!
I recently bought a Disco4, after watching almost your entire video library - I felt confident enough to handle whatever it would throw at me in future!
I absolutely love your draw in this video. Would you make one for me? And I’ll come and collect when we’re travelling through in our Syncro T3 in September!
🚐 💨
Big shout out for Vera - if I asked my wife to stand and hold bits of metal whilst I operated the drill - I'd be single!! Great stuff guys keep it up
