Hi Vera & Christian, this is the third time I have put a public comment on any channel simply to say thanks for the entertainment, education and for making me laugh. You put those of us in the UK to shame with your excellent command of your second language. Most of my countrymen can't articulate themselves as well as you guys!! Keep the content coming. I'm running out back catalogue content to watch!
You guys are hilarious. Typical of German people speaking better English than many of us for whom it is our first language. Not only that but also being extremely funny, so good. 👍
As a new Discovery4 owner, there is no doubt in my mind, that both of you are the people to follow when repairing the Discovery 3 and 4. Well done. Martyn
Should landrover want to improve their production process which would eventually raise their brand profile , the should employ you two. Quality with purpose should be your mantra, well done to you both.
I have to say, I love the realism of your videos. The fact that you don't have a million dollar workshop with hoist or an infinite parts bin to replace all the "single use" nuts and bolts makes your videos all the more helpful. Inverted hello from Australia!
Your machining skills are just amazing. Every time that I watch your videos I sit here in awe of your workmanship. Here in the USA - South Main Auto Repair LLC is the only other youtube channel that rivals your level of commitment to excellence on doing a job right. Love the couple's teamwork that you and Vera show in the videos. Nice to see the blacksmith ready to help out, too.
Very stylish Vera, letting Christian do his whole intro THEN pointing it his error in a spectacular way, no mercy - "but it's all wrong what you just said", very stylish lol!
Please Chris & Vera You guys need to make a book on what to replace original parts with better parts, and we're to get them and of course you'r tutorials thank you... specially on lr3 and lr4 in the USA.
Dear Vera & Christian, I’ve only started watching you for two days, and I’m completely hooked! You two are unique in a whole list of ways. I love Christian’s obvious knowledge of engineering and his willingness to absolutely get stuck in, no matter what. In particular his diagnostic efforts & logic, which always works, but not always quickly! The daft trash bag issue made me laugh out loud. It’s just the sort of rabbit hole I myself could so easily fall down. The power of assumptions! But bloody well done in the sheer doggedness and (correct) refusal to “fire the parts cannon”. While that so often succeeds, you don’t learn as much if anything compared with the route you took. Vera is endlessly supportive, maybe even indulgent, in that she never tells Christian what to do, but she’s clearly equally smart and determined, but accepts her man must do things the way his mind & spirit takes him. You’re both humble, too. I love what I watched. A new highlight was explaining how the oil pressure standards were changed in the more powerful motor despite that representing a reduction in stringency. I agree it’s a bean counter decision, almost certainly fought against by engineers, because they KNEW the consequences, statistically. I’ve recently retired from “big pharma” and biotech. Exactly the same kinds of decisions are increasingly being made on human safety. You’d be reasonable if you assumed this would never happen, but you’d be wrong. It’s bean counters vs the people like me. I do understand the need to run a profitable business, but no known avoidable deaths is the right number. It’s impossible to have a 100% safe medical treatment. But known safety liabilities that can relatively cheaply be engineered out? I couldn’t bear that even this is a monetary consideration first and foremost. Enjoying more LR time! We own a 2017 Evoque 300ps petrol auto in beautiful Autobiography trim. Nice vehicle to be in.
Yourselves and Henning Wehn have proved that Germans DO in fact have a sense of humour. Thank you for your entertaining and informative videos . Also I echo someone else’s comment , you proved it’s possible to do pretty involved repairs to your own vehicle without € 50.000 worth of workshop equipment and tools ,just research your subject and a methodical and calm approach. And of course a sense of humour. Subbed and binge watching. Thanks .
Oh, you are talking about a Toyota. When working on a Land Rover Discovery , you do need tools,, and you need to be able to fabricate special tools. We use our lathe and mill all the time, to fix our cars. Almost on every bigger job. Or you need to buy the special tools for a lot of money. It is not a beginner automechanics car. But if you have the skills and the tools, you are definitely able to own one the coolest cars out there, for little money. 👍🙋♀️
Vera & Christian, thank you both for a very entertaining & informative presentation. I'm actually appalled that 14+ hours of labor is required just to push a connector on.. mad.. 🤯
Hi guys I have just found your channel on March 2024 , and I think it’s great , you work extremely well together ( I’m sure there are a few tense moments with each other ) but it’s great to see you both helping each other , Vera is so cute and has a killer smile ( not to be confused with a killers smile 😊) but is so helpful , I appreciate all the stuff she does , sorting out parts and boxing components and retrieving them when required, handing you tools and using tools , this saves ageing legs and back from constantly climbing in and out of the pit , a big well done to Vera, Christian your work ethic and attention to detail is admirable, I just wish more people were like this , I will catch up with videos eventually but I’m watching them out of order so it’s a bit confusing at times , should get the play list and watch in order , Regards Davy 🏴🇹🇭 a Scottish man living in Thailand 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
I really truly appreciate the diligent, precise, work that went in this video. Vera is truly an honorable apprentice in many ways and Christian work ethic is second to none. Definitely pays to have a lathe around if your dealing with these vehicles. excellent mechanical and machinist ability to take care of that breather. I honestly enjoy your video.
What a truly excellent video !! You guys show so much courage, professionalism and planning when doing this work I am in absolute awe of the quality of work you do and the results you achieve. You really deserve so many more subscribers ...
You guys are great Christian you should be top tech man at Land Rover they need to educated on there faults you need to talk to there ceo and become part of the design team
Hi Guys, just about to have this work carried out on my Range Rover Sport L320. Sensor still works, but I get intermittent error messages on the dash after longish journeys that the oil level system is unavailable. Independent Land Rover garage has quoted 8.5 hours for this job and I'm supplying the genuine Land Rover parts which they are happy to fit. Thanks for teh video and now understand why its an 8.5 hour job to replace £100 worth of parts.
Always enjoy seeing you in your lovely wife. You are boss keep up the great work. Ridiculous how much you have to go through. But once it's done with you for the most part it's done
I have owned four Discovery 4’s and nine total Land Rovers/Range Rovers so far. Discovery 4 is clearly a favorite of mine and I still have one. Watching you two scares and impresses me. I am unfortunately not handy at all …… thank you for sharing a part of the LR journey I can only watch.
Every time I watch one of your videos, I'm really thankful I drive a Land Rover Wolf 300tdi with electronic nothing. I did once own a Discovery 3 bought it and sold it within 2 months and wasn't even in the same country as it.
What a nightmare task and so unnecessary. Have just watched Ed China fixing an oil pressure/level sensor on a VW Van. Held on with 3 screws and job done! Keep up the good work.
I imagine official LAND ROVER technicians and designers watch your videos with total admiration and possibly some level of shame on their part 👏👏👏 unbelievable dedication to LANDROVER ! Can’t believe I actually own one too 😔
Wow, a really marathon effort for this repair! Well done. Another really interesting and enjoyable video. Thanks for showing us your systems for keeping track of all the bolts, etc. A proper manual dipstick would certainly have been a better idea from Land Rover.
I struggle with the complex fangled tech to show something as simple yet essential as the oil level. The modern motor car has taken a step backwards … bring back the dipstick!!!
Like Vera said...Oh my God...there is no way I would upgrade to a Disco 4...I think my Disco 3 is just enough of a headache...I kept it because watching your videos I found hope and realized things can be fix and improved. That oil sensor is just one more addition to the wall of stupidity from Land Rover... Take care guys...
Great fun blog! Discovery 3/4 = oversized meccano set... you're so lucky to have the garage and pit that the Disco will fit into. Great job as usual.... and how nice to see everything working. Shame about those scratched on the bonnet, how on earth did that happen, previous owners - yuk!
Good morning Vera & Christian I'm located in the USA Florida I love all your videos I used to own a Discovery 04 and after many fixings had to get rid off...if i new u then i still had it today
Another great video! I can't believe how Ford designed an engine with the oil sensor inside the sump!! I'm guessing the remit was to make it as expensive as possible to keep the dealers happy when it needs a repair? haha!! Anyway, thumbs up to you for taking on that task and showing us how it's done ;-) Looking forward to next week.
Great video, you guys are fun to watch. It kind of seems like the LR3 and LR4 are almost a full time job (by experts) to keep them running correctly. The factory build quality was truly poor, at least in this case.
In the late 1980s, I bought a small, red, hydraulic floor jack and stands combo that looks to be identical to yours. While the hydraulic jack is long gone, I still use the jack stands.
Hello and thank you for doing a very thorough job in your videos. We have a 2012 RR Sport HSE Luxury and its been a great car so far. It does have the 3.0L ttdi Crank snapper engine in it with about 135000kms now, still in perfect working order. I was aware of the issues regarding this engine for quite some time and weve owned this car since new, so I started on a service schedule from the begining with service intervals of 7-10,000 km oil changes or every 6 months whichever came first with Penrite 5-40W a great local synth oil in Australia. The local LR dealers here were doing service oil changes under wty every 20k but i did interim services because of the issues people were having in the hope I would mitigate against this. I have no idea which oil pump we have in the car but next time i have the front of the engine appart ill have a look. So far we've also done the timing belt and all the upper engine rocker covers and intake manifolds replaced and throttle body inlet due to minor oil leaks from the top end and on further inspection it was clear the engine plastics manifolds and covers were cracked on the seam joins and leaking everywhere. eventually the engine went into limp mode one day and what started about two weeks earlier with a minor drop of oil on the driveway ended up with a limp mode and engine loss of power while my wife was on her way to work.. ( crazy prices for these parts here in Aust all the components cost about 3k ) and we ended up spending about 1k in additional items (lower ball joints and suspension bushes and new air compressor pump for the suspension which was taking too long to go up or down and would send errors to the computer saying timoeut error suspension). Any way appert from these items in 11 years there have been no other major issues so far. The vehicle is now 11 years old and runs perfectly. I know they can be a bit difficult to work on but My god the thing is a beast to drive. So smooth on the road and so quiet and comfortable, we love it. The components are all massive and over engineered compared to the other 4 cars we have ( 2009 Ford focus LV Xr5 5 cyl 2.5 turbo, VW Golf R 2010 2L turbo & VW Amarok V6 3.0L TTDi - yes we have a few cars and a Vespa :) ) id like to say you've done a great job and hope many other people also benefit from the info you provide. I do have a question regarding the online manual you're using. Where can i find that ( maybe you can supply a link for us so we can purchase it as well) and i do have a question regarding the gearboxes. Ive never replaced the oil in this gearbox ( 6spd Auto) and after this long 135,000kms its still going smoothly and strong. however im sure its long overdue. The factory provided service book says lifetime oil and i know thats rubbish but can you do a video on this if you have time one day as it would help me do the same on my vehicle. I wish you both every success and thank you once again. very informative and entertaining.
Who are you !?!?!?! You are like a Super Hero ! Amazing the things you can do. I just picked up my first 07 LR3 here in New Jersey. Thank you thank you !
“Oh my God” I’m loving this video. I’m not saying your Disco4 should give you guys problems so that you can make videos like this, but I’m always looking forward to seeing new uploads. I really wish to own one. 👏🏾🇿🇦
Great job, and another enjoyable video. Full credit to you for you making up your own parts rather than waiting for a cheap OEM replacement! This job alone puts me off wanting a D4, this level of repair is beyond me.
Well, we always recommend taking a OBDii tool when test driving any used Land Rover. So we knew about this fault and still decided to buy the car. Of course we, in our case, are looking for content, and not for peace of mind, like everyone else is when buying a new car. 😃👍 🙋♀️
@@Vera_and_Christian fair enough :). Would love to do more to our D3 when/if we ever get a garage or driveway. Will probably follow your EGR valve video soon to change ours, thanks so much and keep up the good work!
@@Vera_and_Christian you make a good point, if Land Rover made the perfect vehicles, there would be no LR time and we would miss out on all your amazing videos. Thanks. D
OMG. This car would have been a lemon in the hands of anyone else. Christian, you are a very talented dude. I can only dream of being able to do this much to my RRS. You make me realize how fortunate I've been to not have these issues.
Christian, I just replaced all of my control arms on my LR3 (8x), and I can't help but think that the reason your upper control arms are under so much tension is because the two bolts holding the control arm to the chassis were tightened with the control arm pushed up to try and access the bolts. If the car was at ride height (as per the manual) when the bolts were fastened, there would not be so much tension on the control arm. When doing mine, I noticed that the control arms are held in place after they are torqued, which makes sense as the car will spend the majority of it's time at normal ride height. The difficulty is getting to the bolts to torque them with the car at ride height. It is much easier to torque the bolts if the arm is pushed up and out of the way. Your upper control arm bushes won't last as long as they should if they aren't fastened with the car at ride height (465mm from drive shaft centre to bottom of wheel arch shroud).
Enjoyable video. Funny little comments throughout. I don’t even have a diesel and I don’t even have to fix this problem but the content is nice and clear
Vey good tutorial you two. You are a very lucky man Christian, i am lucky if my wife brings me a cup of coffee when mending her car. Keep up the good work.
My RRS has been having the exact same problem sporadically. Has recently started to become a lot worse, and the error wouldn't leave my dashboard. Contacted my local independent to get it fixed. Will be costing me in around £ 1500 to do what was done here :D The joys of owning a Land Rover product.
I've been catching up with your videos after i discovered your channel. I'm up as far as you building your lift. Love the banter between you both. Who said the Germans don't have a sense of humour. Good luck from Scotland Tom
You have made me actually like the Discovery 3/4 by watching your videos, I have been a Toyota Man as is common in Nairobi but this videos of yours are not just informative but practical
Hi Vera and Christian. I don’t even own a Discovery but came across your channel today and have subscribed for the sheer entertainment value. You guys are great!! Your video on the TDV6 engine was particularly entertaining but above all, your knowledge is mind blowing 😊
Hi Vera and Christian, there is a possibility that the high temperature of the oil stretched out (expanded) the connector along with engine vibrations contributed on unlatching the connector. Good that they came out with a securing bracket to solve this issue.
You're amazing both, made me laugh & shed tears bcs I envy your precision, feels like home ❤ I'd love to live around and have some classes shared with the same passion at your place 🙏
I found your videos in preparation for buying an LR3. I've got the scan tool, Ive got the patient wife. Now I need a complete workshop!?! I guess I can convert the nursery and the baby can sleep with us
Good evening Vera and Christian. Every video I’ve watched of yours have been great fun as well as very informative 👍🏻 This was probably the best one of all with all the fun with Vera 🤣 Love you both cheers Stevie 😍😎🏴
Fantastic repair. I love when one has a go, and tell many not to be afraid. Having a go is the way to go. It can be frustrating, but fun once you get the job done. I am going to purchase one of these but haven't decided weather to get a petrol 4.4L V8 or the Diesel version of the LR3 or 4 Thanks for sharing Subscribed.
I have unfortunately done a few of these and I'll tell you what I think happens. The same sensor is used on BMW's only the body of the sensor and electrical connector are outside the oil pan. I believe that the sensor was engineered to be submersed in oil, but the connector was not. Being submersed in oil with changes in temperature ranging at least 200 degrees causes the small clip inside the electrical connector to expand and contract ultimately causing it to release from the sensor. If they had used a locking tab on the connector like VW or MB this would never have happened.
Great video not just for both your talent and perseverance in completing the repair but making the video funny yet informative and really watchable , the little black dress certainly made a nice pair of overalls Vera 😃
Another great programme from both of you. If Landrover have made a device to stop the electrical snap connector supposedly jumping apart then they must know that this is a known problem and if a problem occurs with this sensor it should be a free fix from Landrover. The person on the production line fitting the snap connector may have not understood that the connector should snap shut. I wonder how many vehicles they did. :)
We linked the bulletin adressing this problem by Land Rover in the video description (just below the text). Yes they knew it and it should have been handled as recall. Appearantly, it only affects the 3L and 4.4L engines. 🙋 Vera

I love your work guys, included is complimentary fantastic humour.
The best automotive channel, thanks guys
Our pleasure! Christian
Who are you !?!?!?! You are like a Super Hero ! Amazing the things you can do. I just picked up my first 07 LR3 here in New Jersey. Thank you thank you !
Amazing, well done you two, keeping my fingers crossed my LR4 does not get that fault, thanks as ever for the humourous and informative vid xx
“Oh my God” I’m loving this video. I’m not saying your Disco4 should give you guys problems so that you can make videos like this, but I’m always looking forward to seeing new uploads. I really wish to own one. 👏🏾🇿🇦
Thanks 😃👍🙋♀️ Vera
Thanks. D
@@dougalpreston3154 You are absolutely right. 😅👍 And we would not be driving a Land Rover 🙋♀️ Vera
You guys are awesome. Vera steals the show everytime. Big thumbs up from Blighty.
😊👍🙋♀️Vera
This is only applicable to the rubber bushings. The ball joints swivel freely. Thanks. Christian
👍 😃 That is important too. 🙋♀️ Vera
Great channel, worth watching for many reasons. Thank you LR Time
Had to turn the volume down at the beginning in case the wife came home early……..:-) great vid guys.
😅👍🙋♀️ Vera
My RRS has been having the exact same problem sporadically. Has recently started to become a lot worse, and the error wouldn't leave my dashboard. Contacted my local independent to get it fixed. Will be costing me in around £ 1500 to do what was done here :D The joys of owning a Land Rover product.
Super video!!! Das Besondere ist, dass ein englischer mit deutscher Solidität und deutschem Humor repariert wird!
Best combination 😃👍🙋♀️ Vera
Well-done you two, and glad to see your blacksmith son helps you out!
Thanks for the video guys. We'll wort the wait, hope you enjoyed your holidays.
Thank you 😃👍🙋♀️ Vera
I've been catching up with your videos after i discovered your channel. I'm up as far as you building your lift. Love the banter between you both. Who said the Germans don't have a sense of humour. Good luck from Scotland
Tom
You have made me actually like the Discovery 3/4 by watching your videos, I have been a Toyota Man as is common in Nairobi but this videos of yours are not just informative but practical
I hardly ever get a positive comment from Toyota drivers. Thank you. 😃👍🙋♀️ Vera
Once again another fantastic video of you two putting right another Land Rover issue..love Vera's O my god's... you make a fantastic pair...👍👍
Hi Vera and Christian. I don’t even own a Discovery but came across your channel today and have subscribed for the sheer entertainment value. You guys are great!! Your video on the TDV6 engine was particularly entertaining but above all, your knowledge is mind blowing 😊
Awesome, you two guys are just so cool 😎
Professional and unmeasurable talent that makes the dream team, shear delight to watch. Thank you 🙏🛠😊
OMG....Very very good work. OMG....Amazing abilities and patience.
WELL DONE ON A JOB WELL DONE. 👍👍👍
Hi Vera and Christian, there is a possibility that the high temperature of the oil stretched out (expanded) the connector along with engine vibrations contributed on unlatching the connector. Good that they came out with a securing bracket to solve this issue.
It got a good click. I think it was not installed correctly but the bracket will hold it for sure. Christian
Nice to hear Vera praying so much🙏🏻 Excellent video!
you folks are just incredible, love this channel.
You're amazing both, made me laugh & shed tears bcs I envy your precision, feels like home ❤ I'd love to live around and have some classes shared with the same passion at your place 🙏
No wonder Germans make such great cars and trucks . I drive a Man bus. So meticulous and tenacious. Great work guys.
That was absolutely amazing! You make a good team! Well done!
😃👍 We think so too 🙋♀️ Vera
If they had used a locking tab on the connector like VW or MB this would never have happened.
you guys are awesome, love the energy and off Corse the detailed information. Great job.
What a clever man and a lovely wife 👍
Great video not just for both your talent and perseverance in completing the repair but making the video funny yet informative and really watchable , the little black dress certainly made a nice pair of overalls Vera 😃
😃 Thanks 🙋♀️ Vera
Man you are very smart and talented. You inspire me alot! Also Vera is great of course.
🙋 Vera
Such an awesome team you two are!
What a freakin nice guy this Christian is..
