The following comes from a mission statement that appeared in the inaugural issue of SPIN. It means as much to this current staff as it did to the original writers and editors.
A confession: SPIN is imperfect. It’s rough-edged, restless, insatiably curious. A little aggressive, a little cocky. Youthfully uncompromising, but maturely flexible. Romantic - definitely! Irreverent - sure! Unpredictable - yes. Very alive.

The lower the quality of those 90's rare music videos, the warmer my nostalgic feel is.
You should see my hero on the Howard stern show, just Taylor and Dave, Taylor just sits on the couch and he and Howard watch Dave.
Watch Chris Cornell sing "Thank You" by Led Zeppelin. Also watch " Live at Montserrat Mark Knopfler Brothers In Arms"
Every generation of music heads get addicted to the way music sounds when they were in 6th and 7th grade(10yo-12ish). Because of that, I completely understand what you are saying😅. Recordings were rougher which lead to a more deeper sound.
Back when Howard was Howard.
Yeah, it hits too hard sometimes. I miss it. But nothing can ever be that good forever. But hopefully it’ll be that good again.
Everlong is one of my favorite songs of all time

Same…. When I was 14

If I remember correctly, Dave went on to say that after playing it acoustically for awhile he felt that the acoustic version was more how he first envisioned the song when first writing it and I agree, the song is amazing as a rock one or a acoustic one ❤
Yeah he said he felt like the acoustic version made people actually understand what the song was about, and the tempo just fit better
Makes sense
@@Player-os4nxthe electric is too fast and a lot going on for what the words are (even tho still good). The acoustic is perfect. All he needed was an acoustic guitar and to write the song and nothing else. That other stuff was extra. Just words and a guitar
It's the same tempo, guys. Just doesn't have a drummer on it.
The traditional versions became a fkin meme song and its annoying. The acoustic version is a nice refresher
The 90s was a special time
It sure was❤❤❤❤
I miss it
In a couple of decades someone will say that about the 2020’s
@@OP-1000 The USA was on top of the world after the Soviet Union's collapse. There was no one anywhere near the level of the US at that time, no one to challenge Americans, and it produced unbridled enthusiasm and creativity. No one could make those claims about the 2020sl
@@dr.j5642 It will be something different, like “Remember the pandemic? We got to stay at home, it was amazing. And remember those crazy politicians? We didn’t have any money, but life was good”. Or something like that.
The good old days when you were young and full of hope.
Imo this is the best version of everlong it really captures that sadness that’s gets drowned out by the rock version
the Skin&Bones version is pretty 🔥 too
heard this one? th-cam.com/video/NWU33fvPxd0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=dArVq0kV8SeO8Xhl
There is an even slower acoustic version they did live a few years back that’s absolutely amazing!
@@johnfarr2738the one where the swapped the strumming pattern
Dave has said at some point that the acoustic version is the "true version"
Dude this sounds so good
Ik he should try out for nirvana
@@Z0r3_00 ikr I feel he'd really fit the vibe and would make a great addition ☺️☺️🤭🤭
@@Z0r3_00he’s got a good sense of rhythm, maybe he could play drums
idk man he looks like hes already in another band I think its too late for that 😉
not even close to the original
The Rosie O'Donnell cut out is hilarious
Scary! The only part of this I didn't like. 😂
Looked for this comment 😂
I almost threw up seeing that 🤮.
I was OBSESSED with this song. Downloaded it off of Napster and burned it onto a CD
lol I remember I got this off of Napster too around 99/00
So you stole it. Nice.
Crazy how we can come across songs at completely different times. I was born in 93’ but only really heard this song in 2020 during a period of reflection in my life, I must have binge listened to it for a good few weeks.
@@jordan_goes_in4378 DG is doing OK, so is this stern fellow
Napster bad
There's something so relaxing about listening to Dave Grohl sing and play acoustic
If you have never listened to it, they have a full acoustic album "In Your Honor", a masterpiece. And the song "Skin and Bones" (not on this album) is also one of my favorites of Foo Fighters.
And from this one interaction, we get one of the greatest acoustic versions of a song of all time.
He spent the whole clip there messing with the strumming pattern as though he couldn’t yet make his mind up on how to play it
@@DigitalDaffodil He later released an official acoustic version of the song.
Yes.
That and take something from AICs and Nirvanas unplugged shows.
Top 3 acoustic song versions ever.

Dave is seriously one of my favorite humans living on this earth… such a kind soul.
Completely solid dude
Read his book if you haven't already. It had me feeling like I was in a drive along with him. Outbursts of laughs... as if I was in those very moments he describes. The sad one's, too. I was a freshman walking into and with Smells Like Teen Spirit as your soundtrack as to what's ahead
I just left a comment saying it but yeah I met him at the House of blues in Hollywood and he was holding the door for everybody as they just walked by him and didn't even look at him and say thank you. My friend recognized him, and we talked to him for a bit. But yeah he was just hanging there holding the door for everybody and nobody even said thank you that's how solid a dude that guy really is. He's like Keanu Reeves with a guitar.
@@PaladinThomas Don't you just love those random nights? I remember drinking with Lemmy and Marky Ramone at the Rainbow Room, taking a chance and walking right into the House of Blues only to have Nick Hexum of 311 right next to me watching Black Eyed Peas. Or at the House of Blues as well watching a bunch of tribute bands like Sublime, Led Zeppelin, and Santana... Only to bump into my Uncle who is a professional drummer, asking "hey what are you doing here?" I said "got a couple free tickets, here to see the bands... " My Uncle, " I'm playing tonight in the tribute band for Santana"... And man, my Uncle rocked those drums that night with all his percussion might! Hollywood, family, music, and free tickets to it all. So fun... Enjoy life, meet people, or be comfortable alone doing things you like to do. It is so worth the moments and chance encounters of interesting people along the way. 🩷
Then there's also people that dedicate their entire lives to finding a cure for cancer and other diseases

EWWWW you need to leave

@charloo5878 it's no "fingernails are good" but it'll do.
I found this very calming
Everlong is such a rare progression, its just good in both guitars, electric and acoustic
Like a potato, works all the time
You know he’s messing up right? He changed how he played it twice during the verse. I’m guessing he had trying to compensate the missing instruments but got tired and it was difficult to sing with so he simplified it before going back to the first style he started with
@@Bryman5000but he's released acoustic versions of the song before
@@SockiThePoser ya and it had the same count as the original
its not really messing up, he's just going w the flow and improvising. it;s as he said, he'd never had done it acoustic at the time, so obviously hes not going to make it exactly like the og was
What an incredible talent Grohl is. So glad he is still around and making great music.
I love Dave grohl, such a kind soul. When humanity lost kurt it was devastating, especially to those closest to him. Dave has always carried kurt and nirvana with him where ever he goes and in a way, the live on through him
No one lost Kurt he killed himself because he was a coward
@@dogeboss9662 you better watch the comments and energy you put into the air my friend, you might just be handed some clarity by the powers that be. And, in this instance, I'd avoid testing to see if the universe brings you to your knees because, what would it take?

This song does something
Glad I got to see Foo Fighters when they were still openers. I didn’t even have my license yet, saw them at the gorge in Washington in 2000. They opened for the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Dave was amazing.
I do regret I don’t have any pics from that show, but it was at a time where we didn’t have cameras in our phones, and they only allowed cheap disposables inside. The bonus was that you experienced the moment in its entirety and didn’t hold a phone in front of you the entire time. I have vivid memories of that show.
God. The acoustic version of anything gives me chills
A friend of mine put the acoustic version on a mix cd for me in high school ('99/'00 or thereabouts) and it still has a special place in my heart.
yeah! my mom had a bootleg CD of rarities and live moments that lived on the pre-youtube internet of Foo fans! also had Baby Hold Onto Me, an acoustic version of Breakout, and some kind of BSB parody from an interstitial on like MTV or something 🤔. but this acoustic version of Everlong was always the highlight, and was the version in my head when I first learned it on guitar in like 2005.
Awe ❤love you all Angels 👼 God Blessyou All Foo fighters and Howard Stern love ❤️ you all Aerosmith wow ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😮😅😮😮😮😅😅😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hands down the best version of this song
The acoustic studio version is the definitive version of the song imo. Just fits so much better. Not that the plugged version is bad, but the unplugged version just blows it out of the water.
Rock god 👏👏👏 a guy a lot of generations love right around the world .
His voice, so sweet and melodic. ❤
When drummers also play guitar! ❤❤❤
When drummers also do everything! He is so talented!
idk if he does, but he could absolutely write and record the whole album and just tell people what to do live
@@KumoGoesFast I think that's exactly how he did the first Foo Fighters album
I never tire of Everlong
“Well let’s just try it” And history was made!
While not every song could translate acoustically, this one absolutely transcends. The other one that’s comparable in my opinion is “Let My Love Open the Door,” by Pete Townsend.
As with this song, the original is great, the acoustic just takes it to a whole new level.
this is so calming and i love his voice sm
he did it at xmas jam 30 on the side stage acoustic. it was awesome
Gives me chills every time
Bruh even this version is great
Beautiful song and Dave's voice is beautiful singing it
Hearing this acoustic version reminds me of beach campfires in the town I grew up in.,my close friend played it and it always had this euphoric, liberating teenage sense of time and space..I would zoom around in my mind, see myself in a car driving through many scenes as I would notice many places.. the night sky and stars.,the rhythmic sound of rolling waves crash along the shore.. it transports me back and forward in this experience called my life
Acoustic just hits
And W2 Were Here To Witness Such Genius🍒 Breath Out So I Can Breath You In ❤ Hold You In ❤ Stunning Lyrics And Acoustic Version 😘🌝

What a voice! He turned that simple guitar into a work of genius
This song holds so much emotion
Excellent
My buddy and had skipped school that day to go snowboarding and on the way up to the hill while listening to stern this came on. It moved us then in the moment and it still does when we talk about it today.
This dude looks like the drum player from Nirvana, the resemblance is uncanny!
Lol, perfect
he's really talented, he should join foo fighters
This is why the stern show WAS great! The show has become unrecognizable.

That was Rosie o’donell. Rosie and Howard had a big feud at the time. Once Howard realized that he’s an elite Hollywood lib too, they became friends.

That's Rosie O'Donnell. Howard(I call him wiggy.) Had a big feud with her throughout the 90s...tho it is weird that the E! Camera panned to that...
So amazing. Howard really can bring the best out of an artist.
Mighty fine mouth mullet ya got there Dave
Growing up in the early 00s I had a cd of them playing live acoustic I forget the name but it was amazing
Maybe the best song ever
That "video calibration" and the low quality video and sound of this... gave me flashbacks to the 90's man. I wish i could go back.
I remember when Howard and Rosie O’Donnell had their beef… it brings back so many memories of my dad driving me to school when Howard was on regular morning radio. So funny

One of my favorite songs! My wife and I still sing together every time we’re here it.
First time I ever heard this recording - I was absolutely floored - mostly because I want surprised at all that he did it - but that it took on this whole brand new emotion.
This is my son, all day every day with his acoustic guitar and his Everlong intro. Raisin’ them right. 🤘
I remember having a recording of this on my acoustic playlist. Amazing
This was one of my first full songs I learned and my two best buds used to play it with me back in the day. Rest in peace to them.
my favorite version of this song
after that (and some good years) we ended up getting a Studio Recording of this acoustic version in their "Greatest Hits" album :D
One of the best acoustic songs !
