I had just met a guy that was burned 75% of his body including his face. Spent a week with him guiding him in Alaska fly fishing. At the end of our week I noticed that I didn’t even see the injuries anymore. He tried to live a normal life and never complained. After he left camp I heard this song and knew what the song meant to me. P.S. a few years later his wife called me and told me that he had died but she wanted me to know that the week he spent with me was one of the highlights of his life. Little did she know that he was one of the highlights of my life I have never forgotten him.

Dave, during the early years of FF, was always seen as Cobain's sidekick by many people. He showed whole world that he was way more than that. Skilled musician, humble rock star and he Has a heart of gold. For me, if I have to make an honest comparasion, Dave has already overshadowed Kurt. And Taylor... I feel sorry for both Dave and Pat because they have lost a good friend second time. It must be too hard for them.

I watched an interview about his guitar playing....he explained his "method" SOOO well, (I am not a drummer but I still understood this)….he stated that he uses the low e,a, d strings as like the "bass type drums" and the high e, b and g strings as like symbols...so in his mind he said he creates rhythms by thinking of a drum pattern and using the strings the same way he would a drumset. I think that's a fantastic way of looking at a guitar...….again I don't play drums, but even I can actually relate!!!! Any drummers out there that can relate?
As far as I know, he never even mentioned anything about Kurt or anything, except in Learn to Fly where he said “burn out bright” which Kurt said one time in an interview.
Thank god Robin chimed in or I would’ve been totally confused to the songs meaning. Saw Dave amd the FF open for RHCP a long time ago and he killed it. The Chili Peppers mailed it in unfortunately but did play my favorite song, I Could’ve Lied. All was forgiven lol, but Dave really earned my respect that night. My city was the last stop on a long tour and RHCP played like they couldn’t wait to get back to L.A. Dave never cheated the fans and I’ll always appreciate that.

I've watched this video countless dozens of times throughout the years. I was always fascinated with Taylor's role in this performance. He was more than a spectator in this performance. RIP to the fallen heroes.
It's weird to hear them talk about Kurt to him now, I guess it was still kinda fresh at that point. It really is a testament to how great Dave is as a musician where he seems to have transcended the whole Nirvana/Cobain thing despite how massive that was. When you hear the name "Dave Grohl" nowadays you're probably more likely to think of Foo Fighters than Nirvana, which to me is amazing. I can't think of any other musician who came from a massive band on the same level as Nirvana into another one and managed to shake off the image of the first.
Only one that comes to mind to me is maybe Lennon with the Beatles or maybe Fogerty with CCR. Nobody however has came from a band as massive as Nirvana and then went on to create a staying power band as big as Foo Fighters that has remained relevant for almost 25 years now and counting. Nothing absolutely short of amazing!

Just awesome. Dave is incredible. Also, notice Taylor during the song. He did nothing. Everyone has that insecure friend who does not know how to give the spotlight away. They will start to dance or act goofy just to steal some attention. Taylor allowed Dave to have the spotlight, without drumming on his knees or doing anything to take that away. Very cool.
I love how reserved his voice is in this iteration. I know it’s in the nature of an acoustic performance to be more intimate, but his restraint makes it that much more.

I remember hearing in a Nirvana interview way back when, they asked everyone their "roles", and they asked Dave if he sung - he said (loose quote) "nah, I'm just the drummer, I don't sing (thank god)"... That line has stuck with me, because a lot of really good singers I personally know are too shy to show their talents so I direct them towards that interview and where Dave Grohl is now...

I watched an interview about his guitar playing....he explained his "method" SOOO well, (I am not a drummer but I still understood this)….he stated that he uses the low e,a, d strings as like the "bass type drums" and the high e, b and g strings as like symbols...so in his mind he said he creates rhythms by thinking of a drum pattern and using the strings the same way he would a drumset. I think that's a fantastic way of looking at a guitar...….again I don't play drums, but even I can actually relate!!!! Any drummers out there that can relate?

The Chili Peppers mailed it in unfortunately but did play my favorite song, I Could’ve Lied. All was forgiven lol, but Dave really earned my respect that night. My city was the last stop on a long tour and RHCP played like they couldn’t wait to get back to L.A. Dave never cheated the fans and I’ll always appreciate that.

It's weird to hear them talk about Kurt to him now, I guess it was still kinda fresh at that point. It really is a testament to how great Dave is as a musician where he seems to have transcended the whole Nirvana/Cobain thing despite how massive that was. When you hear the name "Dave Grohl" nowadays you're probably more likely to think of Foo Fighters than Nirvana, which to me is amazing. I can't think of any other musician who came from a massive band on the same level as Nirvana into another one and managed to shake off the image of the first.

Grohl did backing vocals in many Nirvana songs. His voice went great with Cobain's.
Reminds me of the NYT video regarding the making of Zedd & Maren Morris' song 'The Middle'. Sarah Aarons wrote it and did the initial vocal demo. Her demo was so good but she hates singing in front of people, so Zedd's people took almost a year to find someone famous to sing the song for them. Then they found Maren Morris who sounds (IMO) identical to her.
