    Great review! Honestly the grind is so well done in this game, it’s what kept me coming back. Love dq3 so much and this is such a great looking game!

    I’ve played a lot of rpgs in my life, and I will say that this is my new favorite jrpg I’ve ever played. Probably in my top 5 favorite games even

    • @jsauce7564
      @jsauce7564 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ it’s open and the party customization past level 20 is just so sick. It’s as classic of a jrpg as you can get, but with modern enhancements. Something I always loved about dragon quest is how it don’t hold your hand or have hour long cutscenes. I love FF7 to death for example, but fuck if replaying Midgar again ain’t such a slog. Just feels nice to play a jrpg that isn’t so hand holds, the game tells you where to go but you can say fuck it and go dungeon crawling or whatever you want to do.

      @@jsauce7564 that does sound really fun, how's the story tho? Is it any good?

    • @jsauce7564
      @jsauce7564 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ it’s a dragon quest game, much less a early one. So the story is cliche by today’s standards, but the lore is cool. Don’t want to spoil to much about the Erdrick trilogy incase you get invested. Essentially it’s “big bad guy is trying to take over world so go get him” definitely not no Xenoblade or Final Fantasy but it keeps you focused enough to see it to the end, the gameplay is what I love the most and the funny dialogue.

    Im really worried about 1 and 2 being too simple and bland even with hd. I hope they add a lot of new stuff for those games

    I love dragon quest but have never played through the Erdrick trilogy, so I'm pumped to play this through. I do hope the story picks up soon though. Im at the pyramid and so far its been: Go here, get the thing, go there, get another thing.

    I personally enjoy the grind in some games. Its nice to pop on a pod cast and chill while I grind. This game is nice for this. Especially because changing you classes can make you stronger and stronger.

    Should you play games 1 and 2 before 3 ? Are there story elements that connect or are each stand alone ?

    I am absolutely hooked on it. Love it. Thank God they gave the option to keep the waypoints and quest help off. I love the hands off approach. Going purely by what npcs are saying and letting your own exploration lead the way. Great game.

    I understand wanting more dialogue and story but sometimes I don't want to deal with all those JRPGs with too much dialogue that adds nothing to the experience.

    Its a good grind, you grow the way you desire. Compare this with metaphor refantazio... you will beat the game before unlocking all archetypes, and definitely won't get the jobs all to level 20. Let alone unlock skill unlocks with m attack.
    But the gamers, are like its ok. You are meant to play it 2 to 3x times. I did it all one playthrough. No way i play it 2x. Dq3 yea i will play many times.

  • @boines

    game was to ez on normal. i picked a "weak" party and rarely died. Also let ai take over to see how it goes ez. i never once grinded or explore for "beat" equipment until 3rd play to cleanup. Just do whatever one wants and have fun u less you wnt that 2% max while spending hours etc for not much.

    • @reed3863
      @reed3863 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Letting the A.I take over will generally result in the best result since they'll adjust on the fly based on what A.I script you've assigned, and what items/equipment are in their possession.
      They will target those who will do the most nasty magic. A mage with Puff against liquid metal slimes will always use it on the first turn unless there's a higher priority like an enemy that can use Thwack. They will never overkill an enemy, but will use just enough force while landing the last hit. Assigning them all to 'Fight Wisely' is the easy mode.
      Also, rarely died, but you did die. I never encountered such a scenario until the post game dungeon thanks to 4-6 enemies on screen ambushing me using Thwack twice..all 4-6 of them using Thwack twice. Feels cheap ngl.

    Dragon Quest is milquetoast. One if not the most bland and boring RPG series I have personally experience. Chrono Trigger, a single RPG from the 90s blows the entire franchise of the water. I have both DQVIII and XI and I fall asleep at the controller. I go back to good games like Samurai Legend Musashi and Bubsy 3d.
