Metaphor is my JRPG of the year, not just because of the amazing storytelling and world-building, but also makes me wonder how a sci-fi mecha Metaphor would go down.
@ZephyrK. well first monster hunt hunt, I killed the dog. But an elite bird out there and worms. So grinded for gold and to max all unlocked jobs. Was lvl 42 by 2nd main city Then 58. 76, 92, finaly 99 all unlocked with m att. Prob is overworld encourages mage, and kinda promotes you grind d to lvl jobs to 20. Thus you out lvl all. And mage 1 mp return. If I fight a trash mob. Most will use 4x mp vs just mage overworld kill, or merchant. Then again I out lvl all bosses as well. The game would been better if it was isotonic like Oninaki, and 1 mp all 2mp mage. Even the dragons died in 3 rounds.
@@sagepirotess6312 It’s almost like the reason the “Game has 0 combat…everything dies in 3 rounds or less” for you was because you were disgustingly overlevelled and had classes MAXED OUT by the EARLY TO MID game 😭 How are you gonna blame the game for something you specifically went out of your way to accomplish 😭

another banger video. i have tried three houses (being a huge fan of older FE games), but found i couldnt get into it back when it first came out. I would definitely like to try it again soon! Another one i want to get to eventually is infinite wealth! i put about 18hrs into like a dragon, but stopped to go back to replay the series from kiwami 1. i felt like the game, while it can def be played on its own for sure, was throwing a lot of callbacks to the series in general. and i think id get a whole lot more enjoyment meeting certain characters prior to playing Y7 and IW.
My problem with Three Houses, is the monastery sections just become a slog on repeat playthroughs since not enough changes regardless of which route your on. This is especially noticeable in the first half of the game, where the chapters, and monastery sections are 100% identical regardless of route. So the stuff that does change isn't until around the half way mark, about 20-30 hours in
A decent list, pretty modern though. I've played a few of these but most I haven't. Feel that there are quite a lot of older games that are missing from this list: few Tales of games, a few FF games, and even a few Wild Arms that can easily make a list like this. There are so many great JRPGs.

Xenogears. First playthrough, without a guide, is super long… crazy when make that it had to be condensed. Would have been a 100 hr JRPG in the 90s! As it was, took me 75 hours first time without a guide

I thought Yakuza 0 was amazing. I beat Kiwami but it wasn’t nearly as good. I tried Kiwami 2 and never finished it. I tried like a dragon and I found the combat ridiculously tedious and boring. Loved persona 3,4,5, dragon quest 11, and currently loving metaphor. I feel like I SHOULD love like a dragon but I couldn’t get into the first game. Do you think i still may like infinite wealth? I partially want to get it but im nervous I’ll get bored of it quickly again.
The first Like a Dragon has a bit of a slow start and Infinite Wealth ramps up combat wise quicker. It also has some mechanics with positioning that make it feel more action focused. It definitely is more Like a Dragon but if you felt like you should like it then Infinite Wealth could click for you.
I’m so torn on getting rebirth. It’s not the story I’m worried about. It’s the bloat and padding and time wasting that’s been a big criticism for many reviewers. I’ve never been a main quest only gamer but not feeling like a game respects my time or when in game activities become chores more than meaningful things to do has really impacted gaming for me. Especially as a gamer dad. I’ve tried a few demos of some other games but many games are also slow starters
Get it, it’s the only game that deserves to be on this list, there’s so much side quest and games that make it non-repetitive, changing the pace of flow for every chapter, the only downside is, if you want to truly understand the games lore you have to play ff7 crisis core-ff7 remake- ff7 rebirth, all in that order
I love fire emblem and I beat three houses and enjoyed it but I think the company is going in a wrong direction with the fire emblem series including three houses.
Xenoblade series i couldn't get into cuz of the auto-attack gimmick it has. Shin Series i never played because im more of a Persona player, and Fire Emblem i never liked Tactical RPGs! The rest of em, i definitely enjoyed playing, but the only game i finished was Infinite Wealth! That game had me hooked! The others i barely did 20% of it yet. 😂
Shin Megami and Bravely Default start strong but become dull grindfests pretty fast 😔 for switch there is also nights of azure 2, if you an healthy young Male 😁
Glad you enjoyed it I guess, but I can t defend metaphore, it’s disappointing that atlus made thsi game, it’s so low compared to royal. The writing is so bad in the second half im sorry but I can t comprehend people saying it’s a masterpiece
OCTOPATH traveller is a great game but is severely lacking in the story. The soundtrack alone saves it from being somewhat mediocre and keep it in the great category.
P5 is a really bad game for me.I wasted 100h of my life to fast forward almost every dialogue and run around to max social links because i did dungeons always on the first day and then i had literally nothing to do while waiting for story to proceed except raising social links.I don't even understand why people call it jrpg when it's 99% life sim.Plus the writing is terrible.Like they hire a child to write the dialogues.
I dont like octopath. Its annoying and boring most of the time. I tried so hard to like it but I couldnt. Everything else is fine on this list. Good job:)
Am I crazy for finding Persona 5 Royal just unimpressive and boring? I enjoy everything outside of the palaces, the combat makes me feel like I'm doing the same thing in every single encounter.
I’m only about 20 hours into metaphor. It’s fantastic but why God why does it look like a PS3 game? It makes no sense they’ve made so much money on the persona series and they put zero budget into the environments of this game.
It looks horrible. There's a lot of jrpgs I won't play because they seem to all use like that old school PS2 PS3 engine. It's bad enough that detectors and the engine looks like crap. But then they don't even bother to really put any much detail into the environment which just makes it even worse. Even though tales of arise is not a very great game and the story was pretty lackluster in my opinion, the graphics though and the world exploration was so cool and so much fun it's really hard to go back to something that looks like a PS2 game with an HD texture pack
the trails games are very, and i mean very heavy on dialogue. Even in the modern era with daybreak you'll be stuck in dozen and more situations where unskippable dialogue presents itself for 1-3 hours when less than few % of the total dialogue matters or references events in the past.... and thas coming from someone that actually like the based villain in daybreak. compare this to the other visual novels like p3,p5, metaphor which also have heavy dialogue but is presented in an way that you have choice over like leveling up social stats/virtues through various deeds or level up specific social links making it not feel as forced and down your throat like trails games do.
it's just a matter of "have you played it or not". Just like how tasting an atlus JRPG makes you wanna play all other atlus jrpgs, the same way goes for Trails and falcom games. Some people might not have taken the initial step. Also, Trails games aren't really that mainstream yet, which makes sense it won't go here since all games here are in the mainstream
Meh. Kinda clickbait title. Long jrpg worth your time. Most of these are recent. Point whats popular today may be meh next year. Oldest game on here was dq xi. So no ps3 2 1 snes nes, or such long jrpgs are worth ones time. Then your list wont stand up to time itself

@ Thank you very much for the response!
fire emblem is my fav sadly its only playable on console
Metaphor would of got my game of the year. But Infinite Wealth beat it. One of my best games of all time. My man got cancer and all...
someone give me recs of long jrpgs w romance options? love persona games, trail series so gimmieeee recs pls
Shin Megami and Bravely Default start strong but become dull grindfests pretty fast 😔 for switch there is also nights of azure 2, if you an healthy young Male 😁
Never agreed with a list so much
Octopath traveler is a grindring nitghtmare
I really tried to get into octopath but man. I don’t enjoy the art style that much tbh.
No Nier Automata? 😢
I have like 500+ hours in xenoblade 2 lol
If only they would release a new version for PS5. Sadly daily make jrpgs for the laggy switch.
@@DaveTheeMan-wj2nkI wanna finish the game but also gave up because not only laggy but also the poor resolution bothers me a lot even in dock mode.
I'm surprised Scarlet Nexus isn't on this list
Glad you enjoyed it I guess, but I can t defend metaphore, it’s disappointing that atlus made thsi game, it’s so low compared to royal. The writing is so bad in the second half im sorry but I can t comprehend people saying it’s a masterpiece
OCTOPATH traveller is a great game but is severely lacking in the story. The soundtrack alone saves it from being somewhat mediocre and keep it in the great category.
P5 is a really bad game for me.I wasted 100h of my life to fast forward almost every dialogue and run around to max social links because i did dungeons always on the first day and then i had literally nothing to do while waiting for story to proceed except raising social links.I don't even understand why people call it jrpg when it's 99% life sim.Plus the writing is terrible.Like they hire a child to write the dialogues.
i want to play three houses but i feel like the nintendo switch is just a waste of money
When i played dragon quest 11 it felt awful. I made it to the last dungeon and just quit. Not because of difficulty. I just didnt like it.
Sell me on metaphor, cuz to me the combat is literally a persona reskin.
B R U H
Not a single Trails game mentioned, but we got P3, P5, Metaphor and SMT.... fanboy much? Lol
the trails games are very, and i mean very heavy on dialogue.
You also sound like a fanboy - a trails one. Nothing wrong with that haha either!
it's just a matter of "have you played it or not".
Here’s something crazy, TH-cam now allows anyone to create content. So create your list, post the video, and we will enjoy your content too.
I think some people misunderstood my comment. I wasn't attacking anyone, far from it, just one fanboy recognising the other.
dont watch this if you have kids. you wont have time to finish even one
Xenogears
Metaphor isn’t long. Persona 5 is long
LMAO not even a legend of heroes entry.
P5 Royal not worth your time
Persona 4 beats em all.
They are good games but also marathon of slog and wasting player time
Atlus games
such a lame list. either you just picking high rated reviews parroting popular opinion. nothing new here.
Meh. Kinda clickbait title. Long jrpg worth your time. Most of these are recent. Point whats popular today may be meh next year. Oldest game on here was dq xi.
So no ps3 2 1 snes nes, or such long jrpgs are worth ones time. Then your list wont stand up to time itself
it's all the mainstream modern ones, which is okay if you're the type who only plays the mainstream ones and just gotten into JRPGs.
they all seems to me quite boring
