    I can't even see one thousand yards I am lucky if I can hit a target at one hundred yards. I am 71 yrs old I could have done it when I was younger but with my failing eyesight not possible now. Great shot.

    Excellent shooting. I didn't hear you mention the load. Was it black powder or smokeless?

      Im shooting smokeless. Accurate 5744. I contacted Accurate and they were free and easy with load data. I also believe the latest Lyman manual has data for 5744. For the record I got the gun over 30 years ago and decided at that time since they are not easy to get from any manufacturer that I needed mine to last a lifetime so I went with smokeless.

    2nd. hit looked like a Richochet!! Watch the Dirt Hit about 50yds. in front of Target!! Still Great Vid. and Great Shooting!!

    • @nevadadesertrat267
      @nevadadesertrat267  ปีที่แล้ว

      You are correct it did skip in and hit the target. Without optics all I could see was the target did move and hear the ring of hitting the steel come back to me. I should have made a note of it in the video.

    Is that a pedersoli sharps 45-120 or a true sharps. I’ve wanted a pedersoli for a while.

  • @duggydo
    @duggydo 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Maybe it was an optical illusion, but the last one looked very low where it skipped in. Is there much spread in the velocity for that batch of ammo?

    • @nevadadesertrat267
      @nevadadesertrat267  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the talking part of the video I mention the second hit was a skip in. As for velocity spread it is no more than 25fps. I remember when it left the hold seemed correct the front sight was not moving. I do know at these distances if the bullet tip gets deformed a little it will land short. What I dont like when something is that far off and I felt like I had a good hold. I cant call the bullet back and inspect it

    How do you determine distance? Can you eyeball it and be accurate with distance judgement?

    • @nevadadesertrat267
      @nevadadesertrat267  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use GPS also for shorter distances I use a range finder. As for Me being able to accurately eye ball it? the answer is no.

    Have you ever thought of using 2 sets of shooting stikz one on front of barrel and one near trigger end ps Quigley

  • @morrisegna9585
    @morrisegna9585 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    You have your sticks too far apart for one thing, that's why your wobbling around. Put your sticks closer together and push them down as solidly as you can into the dirt.

    • @nevadadesertrat267
      @nevadadesertrat267  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I made the mistake of shorting the sticks after this video was made. So they would be closer together as you suggest. But the problem got worse. A part of the problem for me is I mostly shoot off of sand and the sand is not level. So as you suggested it is harder on the sand to get them solid than on dirt. I did make a more heavy duty pair of shooting sticks. I have been trying them in different positions. I have noticed a lot of people the sticks are farther out and on the barrel which goes against my free floating a barrel for distance shooting mentality. But I have been trying that also Right now what seems to be the most solid for me is the shooting sticks on the barrel right in front of the stock. Of course than for me and maybe I am over thinking it I start trying to lean into them or away opposed to just resting on them. I am getting totally whipped at 1320 yards. I have figured out the bullet I was using is not as accurate as the bullet I am using now but the more accurate bullet is less pointy and I have run out of sight adjustment. I now wish I had the old style barrel mounted sight than my vernier sight. Thanks for the suggestions it gets me thinking about some things to try. For me the fun part is not just pushing the limits but figuring out how to increase the limits.
