Unveiling a 52-year-old gem, formerly a stall at the old Satay Club | Leng Kee (龍記) | SG Hawker Food

- The old Satay Club, demolished in 1995 to make way for the Esplanade, was reputed to serve the best satay by hawkers. Leng Kee, set up by founder Mr Wan Lin Kee, was one of those stalls at the Club, and has been serving old-school satay for the last 52 years.
Now helmed by the 2nd generation, his son has inherited the legacy and continued the old-school way of cooking. The satay sauce is well-flavoured with peanuts and enhanced by pineapple puree. Fried Oyster is another local favourite on the menu.
How could one leave the stall without tasting the BBQ chicken wings? They are grilled golden brown to perfection, with slightly charred edges. Take a mighty bite of the juicy marinated meat!
It's hard to imagine the hawkers bearing the intense heat of the charcoal furnace, and with their masks on. Their dedication to bringing delectable food on our table is commendable. Do drop by to give the hawkers your generous support!

I remember the Satay Club , was a must-do when we were in Singapore, were some beautiful gardens and trees to sit under, long communal tables under cover and the stay sellers were dotted around the between the rows of tables with small charcoal BBQs, been a while but I think that is how I remember it. Going there for sure had forgotten about the pineapple puree
@Morgyau. Blissful happy memories of yesteryear, enjoying satay/the delicious smells under the moonlit sky and at times dipping toes in the sea!!! Exactly how it was as described by yourself those long tables, etc. It was like a huge 'party'. Sad thinking that it's all gone. I left Singapore some decades ago (visited from time to time) but happy memories linger. Viva la Singapore, may she prosper together with her population. ☘️👍. Lee Kuan Yew was indeed the grandfather who laid down the foundations!!! for future generations. There should be a memorial statue of him commemorating this near Fullerton hotel or prominent situation.

The satay is just nice for a quick bite be it mutton or chicken. With the pineapples peanut sauce, this is heaven and no other foods could compare to it.

Support these dishes which are national dishes too, satay, bbq chicken wings and fried oysters. All yummy food but a lot of hard works.
