    One thing is a base ZR2 is 50k out the door and every bit as capable as a TRD Pro or Ranger Raptor. Those trucks are 10 and 15k more. And the ZR2 looks better and has if not better just as nice interior.

    As a guy who loves Tacoma and own a 3 gen. The new ones are prices too high. You can get into a trail boss for under 40… you can’t even get into a sr5 for that…

    Why the heck would anyone pay ZR2 money for a tin poop box with no bump stocks and plastic skid plates, and no rock rails for the same price? I mean I think the Tacoma looks better, and I'm not above paying for a lesser vehicle if the price is right. But it isn't Taco Off-Road is a 35k truck. Max.

    The Colorado ZR2 is the best looking truck ever made (imho). Better than the Canyon AT4X. And a LOT better looking than any of the others mid-size trucks as well as any 1/2 ton too. It is just plain MEAN LOOKIN'. I get my new one (Summit White) on Tuesday 12/17/24. And the reason I got one is YOUR videos. Plus, this is a company truck so I didn't even have to pay for it!! 🤣🤣

      Agree that proportions to tire size and the aggressive chisel look at the Colorado make it one of the meanest looking trucks available today. Absolutely love the looks of the Colorado and Canyon and congratulations on your new one that you're getting in a couple days

      @@Jason-Samko I looked at a 24’ ZR2 at my local dealership last week and when I first got there to drive it the battery was dead. They jump started it and when it started the engine light was on and a few other lights. I test drove it and really like the truck. I went back yesterday to drive it one more time because I’m also looking a 24’ Tacoma Trd offroad, wanted to make sure that ZR2 was the truck I wanted. Well the battery was dead again on it and they had to jump start it and they brought it into the service department and it’s still sitting in there. I’m starting to get cold feet on that ZR2 but they are down to a tad over 46,000.00 on that truck so I feel the price is really fair for what you’re getting vs that Tacoma. What’s your thoughts on this draining battery issue? Would that concern you about reliability long term? Seems like GM is having some tech issues?

    • @Jason-Samko
      @Jason-Samko  2 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @mitchuselman2257 the dead battery is probably do to the over the air updates happening early thos year and it killed the battery. And now they struggle to keep the battery charged as the battery was taken too low. A cold crank battery that trucks use will be greatly reduce even if it's only killed one time. I would demand a brand new battery before I bought it

    • @mitchuselman2257
      @mitchuselman2257 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@Jason-Samko do you know if they fixed the update issues on the 24’s? Or is this still a on going issue? I do know that truck has been sitting on their lot for awhile, that’s why they reduced the price from 50,235 down to 46,880.

    The '24 Ranger wasn't really available until almost June in any significant numbers. Also the huge fleet sales that the Ranger had are mostly going to the Maverick and F150.
    Next year sales # will be much more realistic. Competition is always good for the consumer.

  • @davep2945
    @davep2945 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

    These are estimated final end of year sales numbers based on average monthly sales as reported so far extrapolated over 12 months and rounded up to the nearest thousand.
    1. Toyota Tacoma: 185,000 sales. This will likely be somewhat higher as sales have picked up over the course of the year.
    2. Ford Maverick: 166,000 sales. Sales have dipped recently but it should still nip the 160K mark.
    3. Chevy Colorado: 94,000 sales. Great but about half the Tacoma.
    4. Nissan Frontier: 75,000 sales. Improving with tons of potential but will Nissan capitalize?
    5. Ford Ranger: 51,000 sales. Looks like the Ranger's biggest competitor is actually Ford's own Maverick.
    6. Honda Ridgeline: 45,000 sales. Steady as she goes with this one. But based on a common platform so margins don't need to be massive.
    7. Jeep Gladiator: 44,000 sales. Common platform and huge margins even at low prices so it'll probably stick around.
    8. GMC Canyon: 36,000 sales. A gussied up Colorado. Big price and a common platform equals enough profit to survive.
    9. Hyundai Santa Cruz: 33,000 sales. Um, good for Hyundai, I guess?
    The GM twins sit at 130,000 sales total or about 40% less than Tacoma by itself. So not really a threat so far. While I'm not a fan of the Tacoma I have to admit that it will likely remain the sales king as long as the cult of Tacoma continues. For a long time I used to tell Dave over at Nissan Nation and now All Terrain Nation that the old Tacoma was not the leader in any specific category except for sales. So the idea that a truck has to be the best at something to be the best seller was a fallacy. Heck, for eight years it wasn't even the most reliable truck. That was the Frontier but it didn't matter. Tacoma guys are gonna' Tacoma. But it's nothing new. Until Ford let the Ranger age into oblivion in the early 2000's it was the best seller in most years and that was back when several mid size trucks would sell near 200K units and the Ranger would top 300K on occasion. People fixate on something and never look elsewhere until they are forced to. Ranger could still be the best seller if Ford had updated it and not let other trucks become so obviously better. But it's hard to get back what is lost. Especially when you've given the people something they'd rather have anyway.
    Yep, the Maverick is the real reason the Ranger is down and some of the reason Tacoma and everyone else haven't climbed as high as the might have otherwise. As enthusiasts we have to shelve our biases about category and what we would do and look at reality. Very few people actually care about hard core off road capability and if a truck is capable enough for them, priced right and efficient enough, like the Maverick, they'll buy it. It's up almost 80% over last year which is unheard of for a vehicle that had a full year of sales the previous year. If Toyota was as smart as they think they are they would have used their hybrid tech to have made the Tacoma a little less powerful and a lot more efficient because their buyers don't care about max power. But powerful enough and 30 MPG at a reasonable price? Yeah, no one else would stand a chance. If you're going to make people angry with a 4 cylinder at least give them something unique and worthwhile. If they had held a reasonable line on prices and used the hybrid for efficiency they would likely sell near 300K Tacoma's next year. But they followed the crowd instead of doing their own thing which worked for them for so long and while they will remain the sales leader I don't think it's going to be by as many units as in the past.

    • @westcoastplinkin6559
      @westcoastplinkin6559 3 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Why would Toyota invest so much in the Tacoma? It's only the best selling vehicle in the US, around the world, it's the Hilux. And yes, they offer exactly what you said around the world with the Hilux. The Hiluxes that are best selling are the affordable and the ones marketed to the everyday person. So I can understand why they don't try as much with the Tacoma. They try enough just to get them sold and they know people will buy them. But in reality, their Hilux is the top prize, not the Tacoma.

    • @gordmonteath6090

      Dave you do realize that Toyota counts a sale when the vehicle gets delivered to the dealership as in their deceiving mind the dealership "bought" the vehicle even though the vehicles are sitting unsold on dealership lots. And the dealerships lots are currently jammed full of these sold unsold vehicles. In otherwords Toyotas "leading " sales are fudged

    If Colorado or any mid size were to overtake the Tacoma, it would be in the first year. I don't think going forward Toyota will lose the lead, 4th gen can only get better from here on out. I am starting to see more and more 4th gens. 4th gen truly isn't having the issues the Tundra is having.

    Very interesting news feed. Colorado and Tacoma are both great looking trucks. I wonder what the gap will look like once these tariffs come to life. Really comes down to pricing. All Tacoma’s are priced 10k too high.
    Also, the fact that you can get a front/rear locker in a Colorado is absolutely insane.
    Would love to see Tina’s truck tearing through some swamps, could be a sweet video.
    I’m really rooting for the Ridgeline. If Honda does the update like how they did the Passport, that and the frontier would put a lot of pressure on Tacoma sales.

      @@omarkyankhan majority of the people only care about reliability, longevity, durability, and prices. The downside about Tacoma is its price. I totally agree that it’s way overpriced. People don’t really care much about back and front locking differential mechanisms or fancy tech. Not a lot of people are going to take their brand new truck to do those crazy off road obstacles. To me the more technology the vehicle has the more reliability issues it has.

    • @omarkyankhan
      @omarkyankhan 3 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ Agreed. Toyota is going to have to make some big decisions about how they wanna approach the truck market with all those factors you laid out.
      Even if you don’t use your lockers all the time like when you’re surfing pavement on the way to work, having the option is nice, especially when the price is right.
      What most people’s problem is there is no time in the day to have fun and when you can those opportunities are rare so nice to have the option when you need it. Plus it makes it that much more fun when you’re measuring “sticks” with the boys or coworkers, i.e. my toy is cooler than yours.
      I think Sam’s channel does a pretty good job laying out the fact that reliability isn’t something that car manufacturers care about anymore. If you want a reliable simple truck with no bells whistles durable and wanna drive it until it explodes you already missed the train unless you’re ok with buying a used 2013 RWD tundra.

    Mid size truck no matter who makes them, the gas mileage should be better and the truck itself should be cheaper .! The Colorado has less gas mileage than my V8 Hemi .! Now that’s a shame .! It might look nice but it doesn’t mean it’s a good truck .!

      It's working those 4 cylinders so hard to get the power. Look at the weight difference between a Colorado and a 1500. The V8 hardly has to get up out of it's seat to move while the Colorado is putting spikes on.

If you have a jeep thry rip on you, if you have a chevy, ford, ram, even a huffy.....they rip in you. But what you like and believe in. They are all equal today.
