To add to the comment, what a remarkable drone shot you created as you moved up into the observation deck of the building. Truly cinematic. This is what these drones can do for us as cinematographers---they create utterly remarkable video images that can add so much to a documentary or any sort of video story.
I'm a new Mini 2 pilot and have been very cautious, probably overly so on letting her fly more than a stones throw. I appreciate your comments on its reliability of signal and now since watching this feel like I can let the Mini 2 reins a bit looser and confidently fly more distant. I have the Mavic Mini and my Mini 2 Fly More Combo with 1 year DJI Care Refresh package is chilling under the Christmas tree until Christmas this year! Even though I have the Mavic Mini as soon as I saw the Mini 2 is out, I actually chose to get the Mini 2 instead of the Mavic Air 2 Fly More Combo! I had the money saved up for the Air 2, but chose the Mini 2 over it! I'm just a huge fan of the Mini models.. And now that DJI made this Mini 2 I'm pretty sure no other company will be able to compete with the Mini 2! Sweet Keep well and be safe bro!

These really needed to be piloted at the exact same time if you wanted to do a fair comparison. Light levels change drastically at dusk. Fun video all the same.

That's the best Memphis has EVER looked. I got the Mini 2 about a week ago. Absolutely blown away by it. Got the Fly More combo, worth every single cent. Got my ND Filters, tablet holder, lights and landing gear too. Absolutely stunning wjat these will do. I live in S. Florida and have flown it at Haulover inlet and Hillsboro Inlet with at least 20-30 mph winds and it doesn't budge the video AT ALL. Smooth as ice. The drone barely moves a half an inch in those winds. And they can get really gusty as well. The video was PERFECT IN the wind. The Mini 2 is absolutely incredible. Your video looks fantastic.
Nice shots! Just picked up my mini 2 yesterday (mini 3 a bit rich for my taste) only been over the local field getting used to the controls so far but seems so easy to fly. Cant wait to try it out over some of our stunning Welsh scenery!
I'm sorry, folks. Maybe I'm in denial or something, but I can't see the massive improvement you talk about. I have a mini1 for a long time now and I know it has some nightlight limitations, but I saw the same in the mini2... I remind you that the sensor is the same, the aperture as well, only difference is (supposedly) in the processor that handles better the 4k resolution... so... how can it be better unless it is a software tweak? You can improve the video too with a post processing... and it'll get much better than what you got with the mini2. Ok, the ocusync is better for heavy wifi environments, but with some yagis you can overcome that as well, so... I'm sorry, I'm just not that convinced so far... Liked your video comparisons though. Am sorry that you let the mini1 go (no further tests...), but I totally understand there is no point in keeping them both. Take care.
Thanks for your videos. I bought the DJI Mini 2 and it arrived today. (My first drone and I’ve never even seen one besides in videos) I was a bit shocked at how small it is. I mean, yes, I know it’s named Mini but it’s about 30% smaller than I expected. I’ve already charged the batteries and taken a few flights around the yard. Lots of fun.
Kind of a no brainier. Aircraft that need to see it won't be flying below you. Although you can place one underneath to help the PIC locate it, the main objective is to make the drone visible to manned aircraft up to 3 statute miles.
So cool when you got that shot of the people up there and it seemed like a spy camera. 🤩 I know the Mini2 has outdone the Mini but it 's still kinda sad handing the Mini to a new owner. I just felt that😫
Had the bigger dji drones but flying it was becoming a pain in the butt with people asking questions needing a license etc but this makes it fun again. Going to buy one at Best Buy tomorrow
I think it's important to state that if you modify your drone (ie. strobe light) it surpasses the >250 gram limit rule under 14 CFR 107 and must be registered with the FAA if flown in the US. Not a big deal for most folks, but the FAA is cracking down on drone channels on TH-cam because you are posting videos that provide them with the evidence.
As stated, this is a stellar video. I am very surprised in your lack of confidence in the Mavic Mini though. I would be EXTREMELY confident in flying the same path you few in your Mini 2 with my Mavic Mini. I have not had a failure or a glitch yet and it is incredibly reliable. Can you share a bit more about your concerns? Thanks for the beautiful footage! Cheers!
Was thinking the same thing, just started flying my mini but already taken it to the end of my neighborhood, well out of sight with lots of brick houses and large oaks in the way. No problems at all.

What a great job flying under the bridges. I've not had the guts to do this in a built up area, but flown under bridges on the North Saskatchewan River. Love my Mini 2.

I am looking to buy a drone for a different angle on photography and your video has pretty much convinced me that it is definitely worth the money, time and effort. You took great risks flying to the Bass Pro Shop, and then over water to the bridge. BUT the footage you got was AWESOME. oh, we could be brothers. I just got my original mini couple months ago and of course they came out with a mini2. If im going to upgrade in the future im going to pay a little more and get the MA2P. Has all the bells and whistles.

Loved this video of my home town. I was there for the 'big dig' Pyramid ground breaking ceremony, and this was an amazing view! I can't wait to do this with mine.

@Calvin yeah, like any of those laws do any good. California is just fine unless you are being a dick with your drone. Under those circumstances you probably are more likely to get your drone shot down in an open carry state. right?

Ken, I have two words for you. But it's a family friendly place, so I will refrain from saying them. I was perfectly happy with my DJI Mavic Mini, I had convinced myself NOT to buy a Mavic Mini 2. My new Mavic Mini 2 will be here Tuesday. Grrrrr

mini 2 is pretty good at night yes for sure. If you took it out of auto and adjusted everything you can get even better.. I know you know this, I was just pointing this out. I own the mini 2 as well but did not know a thing about "pro" settings so I just kept it in auto. Which did a pretty amazing job for what it's worth.. I now have the mini 3 Pro and have learned all about exposure, iso, shutter speed, etc., etc.,... Next on the list is the Mavic 3 Pro and from there will be the enterprise if I decide to go any further.. My point is, the mini 2 is a powerful tool if it is in the correct hands.
Hi Ken, I've watched this and the Atlanta night flight. Incredible videos, thank you. I'M brand new to this quadcopter thing, so I've been reading and YouTubing quite a bit. You talked about adding the strobe for night flying, but not positional (red and green) lights. Is there a requirment for the red and green lights also, or does the Mini 2 come with sufficient lighting? I'm hoping to see one under the tree this year. Thanks again. --The Newbie.

I have the Mini SE for 180$. I like it so far. Afraid to lose it. Any advice? I also like to make, Craft and Overhaul. How much if that could I do to this drone to increase efficiency? Weight is a Legal Problem for me. I get caught I get caught. Accept what I am doing isn’t wrong but isn’t lawful. (Aka River shots when the Snow melts!). Water is powerful !

5:07 As cool as that is, I'm pretty sure it's things like this that keep creating more and more laws and restrictions on drone fliers, and why the rest of us get progressively more nervous with doing anything with drones these days near people.
I have to disagree... NOBODY can have an expectation of privacy outside their own home/property... And I know not all people will think or feel that way but if anything they just need to be educated! Who cares if some hobbyist flying around is merely wondering if you're going to wave or not when the primary focus of their flight is buildings, bridges, and City scape... All we need to do is remind them that, the government is 'always watching', because they are. Because of them you don't even have privacy in your own home or on your own property. About the only way you MAY get any privacy would be to build a secret bunker like 200ft underground with 195ft of concrete! That way you could avoid satellite, infra red, heat signature detection, etc! But as long as you have a phone, you're BEING WATCHED (and or listened to)... So, I find it hard to believe ANYONE actually 'expects' privacy any longer!
Every time you walk into Walmart (or practically any business) you are being filmed by multiple cameras the whole time. Every time you drive or walk down, the street, many home security cameras capture you. You can forget about privacy for the remainder of your life.
@@ellobo1326 This isn't really a discussion about privacy, it's permission. Walking into Walmart, you're essentially giving the owner (Walmart, whatever business) to film you. The same can't be said if someone decides to follow you with their phone, for ex, which is why there are laws against that. The thing is, the latter isn't really enforceable because everybody has a phone that they can whip out as nondescriptly as they want. But for drones, they can immediately be spotted and taken down, and if things like this cause similar laws to be put on drones, then that harms the rest of us pilots.

Actually the camera sensor is the same as the Mini 1, 12Mp, just different processing to enable a 4k video. It's not a bigger camera.

I flew my mini 2 today for the first time. Personally I find it better than the inspire 1. An absolutely amazing drone!!!
It's the safest weight class of any drone and the best in its weight class. Nothing does the job better than the Mini 2 at 242g.
Can it record audio?

Yea, the sensor is same. If you know how to use manual settings then Mini 1 will record same video as Mini 2.

I have the Fimi X8 and it qualify to fly at night in Canada with the RED/GREEN strobe lights and white strobe light in the back.

As stated, this is a stellar video. I am very surprised in your lack of confidence in the Mavic Mini though. I would be EXTREMELY confident in flying the same path you few in your Mini 2 with my Mavic Mini. I have not had a failure or a glitch yet and it is incredibly reliable. Was thinking the same thing, just started flying my mini but already taken it to the end of my neighborhood, well out of sight with lots of brick houses and large oaks in the way. No problems at all.

What a great job flying under the bridges. I've not had the guts to do this in a built up area, but flown under bridges on the North Saskatchewan River. Love my Mini 2.

I have a mini 1 I use for youtube videos. I want the mini 2 but I don't know about getting the same drone with a new camera.

@@customized5131 it’s great. Took out in 20mph winds and flew it a few hundred feet up to take pictures of a bridge and she handled it like a champ.

Nice video. It's nice but since I bought the original mini, this is not that much better that it's worth replacing it so I will wait as there is ALWAYS something better in the future!
I just got my original mini couple months ago and of course they came out with a mini2. If im going to upgrade in the future im going to pay a little more and get the MA2P. Has all the bells and whistles.
I don't think a Mini 1 -> Mini 2 move makes sense.That's almost halfway there / halfway there for a Mavic Air 2, which would be a better jump.

@Calvin yeah, like any of those laws do any good. California is just fine unless you are being a dick with your drone. Under those circumstances you probably are more likely to get your drone shot down in an open carry state. right?

Yea same here.. the mini 1 is great but the signal can get a bit sketchy. Especially when you fly in built up areas..

Ken, I have two words for you. But it's a family friendly place, so I will refrain from saying them. I was perfectly happy with my DJI Mavic Mini, I had convinced myself NOT to buy a Mavic Mini 2. My new Mavic Mini 2 will be here Tuesday. Grrrrr

mini 2 is pretty good at night yes for sure.
If you took it out of auto and adjusted everything you can get even better..
I know you know this, I was just pointing this out.
I own the mini 2 as well but did not know a thing about "pro" settings so I just kept it in auto.
Which did a pretty amazing job for what it's worth..
I now have the mini 3 Pro and have learned all about exposure, iso, shutter speed, etc., etc.,...
Next on the list is the Mavic 3 Pro and from there will be the enterprise if I decide to go any further..
My point is, the mini 2 is a powerful tool if it is in the correct hands.

Hi Ken, I've watched this and the Atlanta night flight. Incredible videos, thank you. I'M brand new to this quadcopter thing, so I've been reading and YouTubing quite a bit. You talked about adding the strobe for night flying, but not positional (red and green) lights. Is there a requirment for the red and green lights also, or does the Mini 2 come with sufficient lighting? I'm hoping to see one under the tree this year. Thanks again. --The Newbie.

Weight is a Legal Problem for me. I get caught I get caught. Accept what I am doing isn’t wrong but isn’t lawful. (Aka River shots when the Snow melts!). Water is powerful !

5:07 As cool as that is, I'm pretty sure it's things like this that keep creating more and more laws and restrictions on drone fliers, and why the rest of us get progressively more nervous with doing anything with drones these days near people.
I definitely agree. Avoid filming people without their consent before Drone laws are less about safety and more about privacy.
I have to disagree... NOBODY can have an expectation of privacy outside their own home/property...
And I know not all people will think or feel that way but if anything they just need to be educated! Who cares if some hobbyist flying around is merely wondering if you're going to wave or not when the primary focus of their flight is buildings, bridges, and City scape...
All we need to do is remind them that, the government is 'always watching', because they are. Because of them you don't even have privacy in your own home or on your own property.
About the only way you MAY get any privacy would be to build a secret bunker like 200ft underground with 195ft of concrete! That way you could avoid satellite, infra red, heat signature detection, etc! But as long as you have a phone, you're BEING WATCHED (and or listened to)...
So, I find it hard to believe ANYONE actually 'expects' privacy any longer!
Every time you walk into Walmart (or practically any business) you are being filmed by multiple cameras the whole time. Every time you drive or walk down, the street, many home security cameras capture you. You can forget about privacy for the remainder of your life.
@@ellobo1326 This isn't really a discussion about privacy, it's permission. Walking into Walmart, you're essentially giving the owner (Walmart, whatever business) to film you. The same can't be said if someone decides to follow you with their phone, for ex, which is why there are laws against that. The thing is, the latter isn't really enforceable because everybody has a phone that they can whip out as nondescriptly as they want. But for drones, they can immediately be spotted and taken down, and if things like this cause similar laws to be put on drones, then that harms the rest of us pilots.

I was gonna order it, but then found out they got a mini 3 pro ??? which offers more flight time and 4K @ 60fps where the mini 2 only offers 4K 30fps
