I just got my Mini 2se and I have flown it twice so far. So stressful the first time it went out of sight lol. RTH was set to 100m and I had no idea it was right above my head (300 feet up) when the wind picked up and the drone required me to fly it home myself. I think my heart stopped lol. But it was so fun and it all ended perfectly fine.
Just flew mine 5.6 miles (9.02 km) AWAY! in a rural area, standing in my yard, not on top of a mountain 🫢 . then landed it in my spotter's yard, dropping out of signal in the process. DJI mini 2. Slight head wind 3-5mph entire way, @ 80⁰ F. Really impressed with it holding up to it's advertised specs, even after I've repeatedly crashed, glued, melted legos, taped w stickers and held in the air on broken dreams 💯!! Yet still it I have never bought 1 replacement part aside from propellers. No upgrades to speak of, add-ons- light and couple legos for mounting different lights in different positions.
Just got the mini 2se for my birthday, first flight a few days ago, I'm in east central Maine and it's been too cold and much to windy to do much flying yet. I'm glad to see you do the distance testing with yours. I will be doing some of that myself as the weather improves. Thanks for posting. I am surprised to see how simple it really is to fly the mini 2.

Being new to this recreational sport (maybe 8 times flying) I was always keeping my mini 2 se within eyesite. Today I decided to venture out past eyesite range. Beads of sweat formed on my forehead and I'm sure my heartbeat increased. At 624 m out and at 54 m in altitude I noted 2 orange bars left on RC. Not wanting to push my luck I hit RTH. I forgot I had set RTH to 100 m and when the drone climed to 100 m (still at 624 m) the 2 orange bars turned to full white RC bars. I now wonder how much farther I could have went. A lesson learned. I'll try it again weather permitting soon. Thanks for your VERY informative videos Drew.
First off, way to get out of your comfort zone but in a safe and methodical way. Another lesson to always set that return home to a lower altitude if needed, but high enough to clear anything on way home. As you experienced the increase in altitude allows for better connection in many ways as there are usually less obstructions between the drone and receiver. Hope this helps and enjoy your new hobby!
I bought a Mini 2 SE via the internet but the seller was literally on the other side of the country, so here am i, watching unboxing videos, range tests and flight tips. It's supposed to arrive the 13th of september although i think it'll arrive before that as the driver is already heading toward my town from the other one far away.
Yes they have incredible range. My suggestion whenever flying out of sight is to know your surroundings. Do a walkabout for a while and know what your return home altitude should be set at prior to sending the drone in the sky! Have fun 😊👍

From northern Maine myself so it's nothing but woods here as well, so it's nice to know I could take this on a long trip if I needed to. Still researching but I think this is the one I want! Thanks for the upload!
Hey hey! That’s so great to hear from a Mainer. How far up north? I do suggest getting at least one extra battery. You’ll have a ton of awesome landscapes to shoot. @The-Drone-Guy Haha,,, thank you for the verification 👍. I did get one ! I was talking to my brother down under , and I just said to him... If I fly round the corner or a valkey and lose signal, will it return? .... We then lost signal 🤣 Cheers Mr. 👊
Whats amazing is how far we are able to rov on foreign celestial bodies, now thats some distance. Have you tried to update your firmware(reload it, on both the rc and ac). The. @@The-Drone-Guy hopefully they take care of you. We reserve the right to repair products, big companies in the name of safety try to deny us this right, such a shame, greed is the norm. So do you get two options for recording? Or even 3? So 1. the drone records to the SDcard. 2. Phone records the flight. 3. "Screen record " in Android, is this done tor TH-cam? Is option 3 needed?
Yes there are some options for recording. The best way is to record tight to a micro sd card You can also story low resolution photo and video caches within the app for a backup option. I screen record to share mostly although I suppose this could be a third option. However once again it’s lower quality and there is all the drone info on screen, but it’s an option. Thanks for the great question
Not that it matters much but, I noticed I missed a word in my original post . I hit my thumb with a hatchet a few days ago splitting kindling. So, you can imagine the difficulty attempting to type on a phone with a bandaged thumb. Since, that accident. I decided to go look for my kindling splitter in the barn. Wear gloves when using hatchet! I typically do but, didn't feel like going to the other side of the house to get them.@@The-Drone-Guy
I always see these range tests and I’ve seen a handful of them fail with a lost drone. I don’t know why people don’t do a range test where you just hover it over your house and then drive as far away as you can :-) now you can get a better range test because you’re driving much faster than the drone can fly, and when it runs out of battery, it’ll land right on your porch. :😂
I just bought yesterday and made my vlog account, today i had my first flight but at 308 m signal lost and i had to rth. I thinks its because there was buildings everywhere and other stuff. I am going to try more range at countryside, hope it works and i can get some vids for account. This mini2se came out like a year ago and i watched all videos about this thing for an entire year, saved money. Its very fun to fly i love my drone. Thanks for your video too, can i ask a question? What can i do for night flights? Do i need extra strobe lights?
Hey! So great to hear you’re starting to get the feel for your drone. It will be the perfect tool for your vlogs. I would definitely suggest more country side flying until you’re used to the transmission and range capabilities. You will also have better control and connection, and often times there is better footage anyways. Lastly I would avoid night flying unless it is certain conditions, strobes will definitely be needed. The ability for the drone to stabilize gets greatly reduced at night so crashing is much higher. But can make for epic shots! Once again I would make sure you’re very confident before doing anything but day time flying. Hope this helps!
Amazing !!! But I would be totally freaked out losing line of sight by eye. I know you are using your map, but that is a long long way. But it certainly has boosted my confidence. I just ordered this model with 3 batteries and charging hub and case for $442 !!!
Wow that is so exciting to hear. You will LOVE this drone. Keep in mind that these drones are great at returning home if signal is lost and are very stable little machines. I have many years of flying to boost the confidence, you will soon ge there yourself. Enjoy!
I have a mini named Dave. He is a vital part of our family, he has 3 batteries 2 still brand new. Bag prop guards etc. I was thiunking of trading him in for a MINI 2 SE cause i need occusync.
Range flights are always fun and I've learned to just always fly into the wind when range testing to be confident in making it home with a tail wind. I recently did a little over 10,000meters with my mini 3😮, battery especially but signal is a bit better as well on the mini 3 even though the mini 2 and 3 are both on occusync 2. Either the mini 2 or 3 are fantastic though so you really can't go wrong.
Wow! I have a mini 3 as well and was wondering how it would do with the extended battery especially. We're you using rhe original? And is it the mini 3 or the mini 3 pro? The 3 has better battery life than the pro
@HugoStiglitz88 I was using the battery plus and it's the mini 3 basic model. Even the standard battery I've gone 6km though which I consider pretty darn good.
Great vids mate. Got my mini 2 se last week. Still practicing so not recorded anything yet as it’s my first drone. It’s amazing to think what they actually do and how far they go. Can you do a maximum height video if you haven’t done one yet? Also what accessories do you recommend for the mini 2 se? TIA
Hey there! Thanks for tuning in to my videos. Cool to hear you just got mini 2 SE - it’s a beast of a little drone. For its weight it is super stable. I most likely won’t be doing an altitude limit video only because it’s really hard to get a waiver for that kind of thing. But I’m sure they can go just as high as they can far if not more so. Where are you flying from?? 😁👏👏

I just bought one of these and realized it didn't come with a way to charge it so, I bought a dji 18w wall charger adapter on Amazon waiting for it to arrive. Im curious is how you charge your batteries and what's the best method.
Hi there! Many tend to buy the “fly more” combo which comes with a DJI charger that can charge multiple batteries. Alternative is charging one at a time while plugged into the drone using a usb-c like a new Apple product would. I’m sad they made this switch for the newer models. The only phantoms allowed for charging individual batteries even when not in the drone. My mavic 3 even has this issue. A way to buy the combo I’m sure 🤷♂️
Great videos. My brother just sent me this drone. He lives in Wells, i love seeing York. First flight is tomorrow down here in Asheville, NC along the French Broad River. Thanks for the videos.
Hey! Thanks a lot for sharing, it’s a fun little drone that I end up using so much because It is so easy to have stored in the car or my office. Asheville is beautiful I’ll be on lookout for your upcoming videos!
Height 110 and distance 3794 m. When I returned it, it had 18% battery, I was even afraid if it would last until the end. How did you manage to make it this far?
I think its because i have alot of laws here in hawaii and i cannot even go over 400 feet high and i think when i go too far our satellite here slows it down
Hey! Yes it does return home automatically- and I’m limited to 400ft unless I request a waiver. In very clear days with minimal wind you get get great range with these drones. I bet Hawaii is an awesome place to fly a drone, so many diverse landscapes. Enjoy!
Wow! 5km and still could do more if the battery can handle that. So far, the maximum range I have tried was around 2km and even at that distance my hands started to tremble😂

@@arlansdailydosedsintonados really? That’s so bizarre - I would try to delete and redownload the app. It could also be due to some other factor such as satellite availability, weather interference etc. if the problem persists then I’d start a ticket with DJI

I did try calibration within the settings many times and even used forced air to make sure there was no debris in the gimbal before submitting to DJI
Not so lucky in the UK have to comply by CE regulations so the signal strength is heavily nerfed artificially, you can unlock it to the american standards but you theoretically can get into a fair amount of legal trouble for it
Yes I noticed a change in signal when in Europe - I’d agree that tampering with the standards isn’t probably worth it. Thanks a lot for sharing your experience!!
Brilliant and very useful to know .Btw can I mount an insta 360 camera to the top of my mini2 se and fly in payload mode ?I've seen it done with a mini 2.If so any guess what the range would be.?
greetings, what is the power of the battery in the drone that you used during the flight, I have a classic 2250 mAh battery, there is also a stronger one, but I don't have it at the moment
Hey! Great observation, because I fly commercially as well I tend to use the imperial metrics. That is what is used for any of the maps and other tools used to follow the rules. Also, when traveling it is used globally. Hope this helps!
Hello from Ohio, I have a lot to learn so thanks for helping us newbies. I haven't taken it outside yet. One of the 1st things I kept reading about was to always keep the unit is sight. There's no way you were to see it in the sky , what am I missing...did I misread the Drone Training course? Thanks again!
Hi there! great question - I do have my part 107 license and am able receive a waiver for line of sight. As you mentioned keeping the drone in line of sight is very important. Hope this helps answer your question! Thanks for taking the time to watch my channel
so how strict is the "out of sight" FAA rule? I recently purchased the Mini SE a few days ago and i just started flying. i heard that even mini drones must be within LoS of operator.
I’d say it’s the most difficult to enforce as the concept itself is somewhat of a grey area. Technically the drone on this flight stayed within my LOS. Now the further it goes away the harder/ impossible it is to see. Is that considered out of line of site? The human eye is supposed to be able to see up to 3 miles away so I remember me and the other people in my part 107 course debating how far away is out of LOS. We never truly came to a conclusion but that was 7 years ago. I’ll have to research if any more rules in LOS have emerged. Now with that being said here is my overall suggestion. For 90 percent of your flights there will most likely be a time where the drone is out of your direct line of sight. If you are flying in an urban area where there are more people, buildings, controlled airspace and areas of rc interference etc then you will always want to keep the drone in LOS. But in this video where I mostly flying in the woods in a direct path that isn’t obstructed i feel much better about having the drone further away and technically out of site. Hope this helps! Your confidence will grow with each flight and so will your knowledge of the rules and your own operating procedures will emerge 👍
@The-Drone-Guy Ah I see, I mainly just fly around the neighborhood for now. I understand why these rules are place , just didnt think flying a sub-250g drone lower than the respective hard decks in any area would be an issue.
@@BrushHourpainting it really shouldn’t be an issue for you- biggest issue in nigheborhoods are trees and power lines haha I’d download some of the other apps that help know the local airspace’s in case you bring the drone to another location - enjoy!
Hey! Because when viewing important flight information on sectional map, weather briefings, and other commercial level info they use those metrics. It’s more of a universal standard than our us model. So I’ve been this since k started over 7 years ago 🙏
A drone only needs to be licensed if it is used commercially or falls within the weight limit of .5-55 lbs. So any drone that is sub 250 grams is lighter than the threshold for needing to register with FAA. SO no this drone does not. Hope this helps!
Great job with the range test. This brings up a few questions for me though, maybe someone on here could help answer for me. Someone on the interwebs was losing their mind over a video of a drone flying over moving traffic on a road, they said it was illegal and that they reported it to the FAA. Can you fly over moving traffic or will that get you into trouble? And what about the rule of flying within your line of sight?
You’d be right! Because I have a part 107 commercial license I can apply for a waiver to fly outside of visual observation and for other reasons such as in an regulated airspace. I don’t think there would need to be a waiver required to fly over a moving vehicle in this way. If you’re looking to actively track a vehicle on the road or fly (with remote in hand) while sitting in a moving vehicle then you would need a waiver for that. Flying over people is much more of a safety concern than a vehicle. Hope this helps!
I do also believe crossing traffic, like in this video is acceptable, not hovering over or having a flight path above occupants and people. Also he was well within line of sight.. had he had a spotter w binoculars or a scope set up to track the drone with. The line of sight is unobstructed, part of the reason he was able to get that far and such good video transmission.
@@juanchelini5937 I just got mine, I think what happens when the battery reaches a certain percent the drone has a function that will automatically make it return to the spot u took off from. called it "roh" (return to home) feature. If u do run out of battery in the air the drone will force land wherever it is at
Hi! So from what I know with this drone. The only automated flights are in the quickshots settings. These features allow you to lock onto a non-moving target and the drone will perform a variety of maneuvers around that subject. Because the mini 2 se only has two sensors it isn’t capable of more advanced auto flight controls. Such as waypoints and active tracking. Hope this helps a little!
@@fddon4166 my mavic 3 has more advanced flight planning like that but was much more expensive than mini models, I’d have to look at specs of other models. If I find anything else out I’ll drop a message!
@@The-Drone-Guy thanks for your help, friend. i've just found there are third party apps that can fly some models of DJI drones (only those for which DJI has made available an SDK) and have improved functionality like waypoint flying, such as Litchi App.
Yeah I wouldn’t suggest pushing the drone that far. And in many ways it’s never truly necessary! However this video does display that the technology is there to support an impressive connection between drone and controller. Thanks for watching!
I've just got this drone and it's my first one. I've used it twice to get learn how to move it but that's about it. I'm so scared to try anything cool and go far (I could never imagine taking my drone 3 miles away), I feel like it would just lose connection and I'd lose my drone forever lmao
Hey! This is how I felt for months when I got my first drone. I actually lost signal with it on the first flight 😂 but the return home feature proved helpful and I learned lessons every flight from there on. Have fun and stay safe!
I agree, just make sure you have a return to home point set and that the height is set to above any surrounding objects, if it did lose signal it would fly back to the home point 😉
Just bought the Mini 2 SE, but haven't had a chance to curb it out much. At 72 years of age & a retired air traffic controller, this will be freak'n fun. Thanks for a great video. I'm sticking with feet/miles vs meters. 😂
So cool to hear someone with your background is tuning in. You’re obviously going to appreciate and approach the hobby with a unique perspective. Were you at a communication tower or an airport? One of my groomsmen from my wedding works out of Virginia as an air traffic controller. So fun to bounce things off of you!
@@The-Drone-Guy Spent my 26 yr career in Calif. & worked it all. Air traffic centers which are really large darkened areas full of radar positions that control airspace across the USA. Airport towers handle airspace within a 5 mile radius of their airports, inbound & outbound. Never a dull moment.
Hmm that is weird! Is it the original model that uses WiFi transmission or the new dual band? I have found the range of these drones varies dramatically when in different environments. Do you live in a city area?
Hey there! It started after my 4th flight and haven’t found a solution. My suggestion is to use forced air to clear any debris that may be stuck in the gimbal. A grain of sand is all it takes to mess with the gimbals ability to calibrate. Because mine has been persistent and it’s essentially a new drone I plan to send to DJI for a replacement drone
I would also try to re-calibrate the gimbal after each time you try and check for debris. I have had people tell me it took 20+ tries before it finally works
Great question! To be honest I’m not sure yet how it will look. Here is the language from FAA site - “Drones are fundamentally changing aviation, and the FAA is committed to working towards fully integrating drones into the National Airspace System (NAS). Beginning September 16, 2023, all drone pilots who are required to register their UAS must operate in accordance with the rule on Remote ID. Safety and security are top priorities for the FAA and Remote ID for drones is crucial to our integration efforts” Because mini 2 se isn’t required to be registered I’m wondering if they will require it to have remote ID. My business drone is the mavic 3 which will be fine. Great question!
@@The-Drone-Guy While I am from Canada - we won't have this issue to deal with a this point in time. However, if I wanted to bring a mini drone into the US to fly while on holiday (like on our frequent trips to Southern Maine 😉), I presume I'd have to comply ...... which is swaying me towards the Mini 3 because it's already there.
@@JWNRW59 oh yes that is true I forgot you were from Canada - Yes the mini 3 would have remote ID enabled. However I would still hold off unless you just really want the mini 3. I think they need to clear up whether the sub 249 gram drones even need to be in compliance. Either way just hit me up and we will take the mavic 3 out here in southern main 😁👍🚀
As stated in the excerpt from faa, if not required to register, exempted from RID. 107 pilots can still fly recreationally, so as long as Mini isn't used under that rule (107), then it's exempt from RID rule. I don't believe being from another country would change that in any way? I don't see how it would. Nice vid. I love my Mini 2!!
I did request a waiver in case I needed it for this one. I have a part 107 so I’m able to fly out of sight if needed. Also that rule is the greyest of them all. I had a pilot who taught the class I was in for my license and he explained how a human eye is technically good up to 3 miles. All of us in class were like so what you can see a drone that far away and he said well if it’s straight in front of you just far away it’s still in your VLOS. It’s when you fly a drone behind you or behind objects when it’s more of a problem. So technically the drone was still in my VLOS just very far away, but to some people within a humans range of seeing. Obviously I could not see the drone but hope this helps explain my thought process as it’s more than a simple yes or no answer 👍
Hey! Great question - the drone will continue to calculate the battery flight time remaining As the drone flys. The more you speed around the more that number will go down assuming the battery life will be shortened. Just another metric to use when out there flying. Your drone is auto programmed to start returning home at 20% battery. Enjoy!

So do you get two options for recording? Or even 3? So 1. the drone records to the SDcard. 2. Phone records the flight. 3. "Screen record " in Android, is this done tor TH-cam? Is option 3 needed?
Yes there are some options for recording. The best way is to record tight to a micro sd card
You can also story low resolution photo and video caches within the app for a backup option.

Now that’s something! Take the controller for the range test 😆🎉 genius!!
@@The-Drone-Guy i’ll admit it probably makes for a boring TH-cam video.

Can always do gimbal calibration in settings and GPS
I’ve done that a bunch and have even I select the gimbal with compressed air
You should calibrate it first for long flight..
Quick note.... FN+gimbal is zooming

Another awesome video! How long did it take to fly 5,000 meters?
Hey! Thanks so much for watching. I’d say about 10 minutes to get that far - took little less getting back since I used the wind at my back
Fait le calculer t=d/v
5000 / 50km/h

Question. If I am in a city area or an area below ground, will that limit my range quality more than when your on a high mountain flying your drone?
Hi there. Based on my experience yes. Anytime there is added interference between drone and controller the distance and connection is weakened. But you can work around this sometimes depending on where exactly
Amazing video your videos help a lot I always got scared whenever I seen the RC turn orange I thought it means it reached its point and to start heading back it always scares me cause I don’t want to lose it and have it fall and crash down also yes it also scares me when I hear a plane I feel like I’m in there way even tho I’m probably not even close 😂

Curious, your telemetry is in metric and not imperial?
Hey! Great observation, because I fly commercially as well I tend to use the imperial metrics. That is what is used for any of the maps and other tools used to follow the rules. Also, when traveling it is used globally. Hope this helps!
Great video. What was the flight time?
Just under 20 min 😁✌️
I'm new to drones. Do you have a high capacity battery?
No this is the battery that it comes with
of course signal good la, cause all trees and grass, no interferrence.
Yes you’re definitely right! I chose this area for that reason
Great video !!
Thanks a lot! I appreciate you tuning in 👏👏
so how strict is the "out of sight" FAA rule?
Nice video but wondering why you are using meters and meters per second rather than feet and miles per hour?
Hey! Because when viewing important flight information on sectional map, weather briefings, and other commercial level info they use those metrics. It’s more of a universal standard than our us model. So I’ve been this since k started over 7 years ago 🙏
Great question!!
oh man.. the rest of the world are using that, only in US i guess that still using imperial unit
Awesome video. Thanks!

@@Nate62340 Okay cool! I am always curious about other drones thanks for sharing!
@@The-Drone-Guy no problem
I seen where the drone weighs 82.5g now does this need to be licensed and registered?
A drone only needs to be licensed if it is used commercially or falls within the weight limit of .5-55 lbs.
So any drone that is sub 250 grams is lighter than the threshold for needing to register with FAA. SO no this drone does not. Hope this helps!

Thanks a lot for tuning in!
The line of sight is unobstructed, part of the reason he was able to get that far and such good video transmission.
great test, soo you landed 541m short to not force/ break the battery??
Thanks for watching! There wasn’t any risk of braking the battery, landed mostly because sun was going down and I wanted some shots of sunset too!

with this drone can you tell it to go to a spot just by clicking it on the map? or to somehow else automatize a flight routine through checkpoints?

Hey! Yes it calculates the percent remaining as well as estimated time left
hello, I have the gimbal calibration error too, do you know how to fix it?
@@The-Drone-Guy I tried too many times and it didn't work, I thought it might be because of the dust, thank you very much for your answer😊
@@sahesersah1099 ahhh darn sorry to hear that! Hopefully our gimbals decide to figure it out soon 😂👏
What are your planning to do about Remote id and the 2SE?
Great question! To be honest I’m not sure yet how it will look. Here is the language from FAA site - “Drones are fundamentally changing aviation, and the FAA is committed to working towards fully integrating drones into the National Airspace System (NAS). Beginning September 16, 2023, all drone pilots who are required to register their UAS must operate in accordance with the rule on Remote ID. Safety and security are top priorities for the FAA and Remote ID for drones is crucial to our integration efforts”
Because mini 2 se isn’t required to be registered I’m wondering if they will require it to have remote ID.
@@Poophead1 thanks for watching I agree with you! Where you flying from? Glad to hear you also are having fun with the mini 2 se
Not to be a buzzkill but is this technically a VLOS violation?
Is this test with standard battery?
Why does the time next to the battery percentage go up sometimes at full throttle?
Hey! Great question - the drone will continue to calculate the battery flight time remaining As the drone flys. The more you speed around the more that number will go down assuming the battery life will be shortened. Just another metric to use when out there flying. Your drone is auto programmed to start returning home at 20% battery. Enjoy!
Also how do I get the waiver to be able to fly this far so it’s legal ?
Yes waiver needed, I should really do a video on that!
How much time it took to return back home?
I believe it took around 8-10 minutes
