CRUSH 💥 YOUR FAIRWAY WOODS & HYBRIDS | using the STACK & TILT GRID

  • Do you struggle with Fairway woods and Hybrids?
These clubs can be some of the most useful options when it comes to hitting far from the fairway (and even the tee), but poor concept and set-up with these longer clubs can often lead to frustration and misery on the golf course.
Hitting these longer clubs from the grass requires a higher degree of skill and low-point control than a mid/short iron, so it magnifies any technical deficiency that you have and often results in players hitting the ground too soon, or topping the ball along the ground.
In this video, I’ll discuss the importance of BALL POSITION with these clubs using the STACK & TILT GRID to help you improve both your low-point control (CONTACT) and the swing path (DIRECTION).
I'll also use a lesson case study to evidence these changes and show how this is applicable in the real world, not just in theory.
Once you understand how you can use the STACK & TILT GRID to influence your low-point AND your swing path, you’ll be able to add another dimension to your ball striking and shot control with EVERY club in your bag.

I'm not a good iron player, I started watching these videos to help with getting more distance with my irons, also not hitting them left and right, I have pretty much watched every video here, I sometimes hit my 3 woods along the ground, rarely top, so this will probably help with that, My partner is a pro and he tells me to do things the way you do it, this was before I started watching your videos, so now I am listening to him more :)

Very useful info. For a while I used to hit my 3 wood pretty good for the most part. Then for a couple of years I lost it completely & my frustration mounted & I abandoned it & hit my 3 iron instead. This year using my S&T knowledge I decided to try it again & positioned it at B1 orB2. I also bought a Ping 410 3 wood. I'M BACK.! Hit some great 3 woods this year & the ball really explodes off the Ping which has the maraging steel which I found incredible. Really helps on those long par 5's.

Excellent video. This was a lesson I really needed. I have had a few lessons in the past with 3W & 3H and ball position was never really focused on. I have experimented with ball position but now I understand better what I should be doing. Really appreciate the extreme detail you provide in all your content.

Good morning Rob from sunny North Carolina. Another great tutorial. That ball position emphasis/focus is very helpful with the lead shoulder emphasis. I've always keyed off the lead heel. No more, especially with weight forward emphasis. Thanks. Stay safe-Russ

Great video Rob and I will apply this. Last few years my normally solid fway woods have gone bad, mostly due to hitting them fat. I try like crazy to hit the ball clean but 95% of time there's a divot behind the ball(not in front) and I lose distance. Also ball flight is usually too low and most left, some right. I'd love to see a video on reasons for hitting 3 & 5woods fat as all instructors assume we all top them. I couldn't top if you paid me! In fact me thinking 'hit up' usually helps! Any pointers appreciated. Again, great work, you're my new Guru! 🤣

Thanks for this video. Last week I just had my 3 wood repaired after atleast a yr. I went to go play a round and it was awful. I kept hitting slices, hooks and even straight up into the air with my 3 wood. I got a little upset cause this use to be a real reliable club for me, but after watching your video I'm pretty sure I was lining up to far back of the ball. I'll try it out next time I go play. Thanks.

I appreciate this video since I don’t carry a driver in the bag. I either Tee off with my 15 deg or 19 deg HB. Sometimes I go 19 deg And actually have more fun on the course. Generally average 78-86. Forces my shot game to be on point.

Started watching your videos on Stack and Tilt about 2 months ago. So far so very good. Driver good. Irons 6i and down are an absolute game changer(no going back!) However, fairway woods and hybrids I am still struggling with heavy contact(exactly the same way as I was with my conventional swing). Watched this video( Crush Fairway Woods 03.12.21) where you stress importance of the ball position (B1). But still catching ground often before or slightly underneath the ball. Any other factors to look out for? Or perhaps another video? 🙏Thanks Rob

I'm in the same category as your student, 5 or 6 iron off the grass, so all longer par 4 require three shots. No 3W in my bag but hopefully I can improve the shot shapes with 5W and hybrid by moving the ball position more forward. Will give it a try tomorrow at the range.

@@golftecasia Yes Rob, a major improvement, straight and much higher with 24° hybrid. I now use the width of my golf shoe as a guide to ball position. One shoe width right of the swing centre is about right for me with this hybrid.

Great video Rob, ball position relevance is fully explained. However, I miss an explanation about how the rest of S&T key points should be configured to hit fairway woods (weight position, shoulder down, hands in, right leg…) Are all of them the same as for irons ?

Excellent, as always. If we are setting up properly with a 4 hybrid (the club I use for most of my second shots), where would the ball position be if we used our body or shirt as the item in line with the ball? I was thinking my left cheek, or the logo on my shirt. Does that seem about right to you? Thank you.

Beauty. Very good tip. Here is my question. When I look at the video @ 9.19 thru 9.23, I didn't see the slide towards the target as you suggest in other videos. I see rotation. But have the following; forward press towards the target, side tilt towards the ball, move head back towards your right knee. Are these the mantras for 222 yard fairway hit? I hit 180-190 now with ball at the center of the stance.

WOW. I have almost the same problem. With my 3 wood or stronger hybrid I tend to hit behind or extremely low push hook. To cure my problem I have to intentionally try to hit a fade or slice. With this instruction vdo I now see that my problem must be from wrong ball position and too much in-to-out swing path. This is so good. One problem solved. Thank you Rob 👍👍👍
