The Ringed Knights are such a cool concept. Encountering the very Ancient warriors of the First Humans surviving all the way to the current era. There's a mystique with this idea because you normally encounter the Ancient figures of _Non-humans_ in other fictions, like Elves in fantasy or Precurser civilizations in Scifi. You almost never see humans portrayed this way, because of the trope of humans being a "young" and "upcoming" race in the World history of a given setting.
To be fair, Elden Ring also ran with this trope tenfold. Many of the knights you see are ancient due to the passage of time and aging being thrown out of whack from the Rune of Death's removal and the destruction of the Elden Ring. That being said, yeah the Ringed City knights were amongst the first.
@the_furry_inside_your_walls639 Yeah but my fascination with the RK is the premise of "Badass Ancestor Humans" as a body semi-separate from "us" as the protagonist humans. The presence of horns in Dark Souls 3 is a clear signifier of mutations caused by bonding Dark Souls through blood. The Satyrs in Farron Keep have the same horns and cast red wraiths identical to Mass of Souls in Dark Souls 1, and we know they linked their Souls to that of the Old Wolf. Their state as mindless beast is tk be attributed to Hawkwood deserted the company, trying and failing to link the Fire, which he was unable to but made the Abyss Watchers communion a Lord of Cinder through the link he shared to the dried up Blood of the Wolf. Similarly, these guys went hollow when Ludleth, one of the Pygmies, linked the Fire, which is why the Blood of the Dark Souls had dried. While in Elden Ring horns are grown through communion with the Crucible, that signifes evolution, the Sanguine Nobles actually became similar to Lamenters purely through the blood pact to Mohg, who is bound to the Formless Mother. Moses has been depicted with horns in real life as symbol of his connection to the divine in Latin Christianity, symbology later largely replaced with Rings of Light, iconography used instead for Miquella So the concept of horns as "Crucible of Souls" is equally part of Dark Souls 3 and Elden Ring lore.
