@@marvelouschester3018 IIRC you can summon him for the Throne of Want and the Frigid Outskirts, so it is technically possible for him to fight invaders. However, it's still really uncommon since the Throne is a very small area where people go straight to the the boss and Frigid Outskirts is avoided by most players. Even if you do get an invader to fight Vengarl, he is not that fast, so it would be fairly easy for the phantom to largely ignore him and go straight for the host.
From 3:00 if you look entirety of Radahn combo is redesigned in terms of speed, timing, angle & the last combo does not even look same despite being placed as if they are similar The only unchanged 1 to 1 combo I found was Pontiff's one present in Radahn's 2nd phase

Vengarl is so bad ass, the honorable headless horseman of the Dark Souls universe. The warrior that kept fighting even as he was slain in battle, as if by instinct his body kept going. He’s one of my favorite characters throughout the entire trilogy. We don’t get much backstory about him, only that he’s a warrior from very very long ago in the lands of Forossa.
Yeah all weapon is forged to kill. But his main point was he saying his body is a killing machine use only to kill not to defend himself meaning he was not a noble warrior.
Vengarl is my favorite NPC in the Dark Souls series, his armor is also my favorite. Those grab attacks are incredibly brutal, worthy of his old reputation.
Velgarl is my friend, love the little guy. What a great story too, bloodthirsty warrior is beheaded on the battlefield only to be kept alive by the curse. Head becomes enlightened from spending years in solitude, reflecting; body keeps rampaging on endlessly.
DS2 had the best NPCs. They helped more, were craftier as invaders, and their designs and origins were crazy to deduce half of them as NPCs as they were literally a head, a rat king, a tiny lunatic, a cat, a dragon, a ghost, a memory, a person who was turned to stone, a guy who made ladders just appear, a scorpion man you needed a ring for, a guy with a fake sword, a priestess sociopath, an undead guy, a group of singers.
You don't need to look too far. Much of DS2's original concept art was the foundation for ER, down to the sewers beneath the massive castle perched on a cliff. ER's combat director was none other than the man who saved DS2, so it's pretty clear that ER is the spiritual successor to DS2.

What i really liked with NPCs is that most of them had their very own moveset. Characters like Lucatiel and Drummond could wield their greatswords like longswords and you had Benhart with his own greatsword moveset. One thing that DS2 got right was variety. Whether it be weapons, fashion souls, or even the NPCs.
Lucatiel's sword (the Hollowslayer Greatsword) is its own moveset, you can do it too by equipping it in the left hand and then two-handing it. a couple of Elden Ring swords have the same moveset (Inseparable Sword, (Banished) Knight's Greatsword
The fact that Vengarl had time to reflect and realized how stupid war and conflict is, is a beautiful detail. I think that any super violent warrior as long as they are somewhat mentally sane is going to get to the same conclusion if put in isolation and is left to think like Vengarl. Peak souls 2 doing it once more....
I like the subtle motion at 2:46 where Phantom Vengarl swing his sword swiftly to slit your throat, whole Headless Vengarl send your body spinning. Something like this makes Dark Soul 2 have a special place in my games, especially with its world.
I love how Dark Souls 2 has influenced Elden Ring, even though it has its flaws, this game was not forgotten and I like to think that many scrapped ideas in DS2 were added to Elden Ring.

Vengarl's swings come from over his head angled down. Wheras Radahn's blades start at his sides and swing flatly horizontal as they cross. Vengarl also never had that shimmy into a double slash at the end of a combo that Radahn has. Though some of the ways he starts his combos is very similar, they're far from reused animations. They look like whoever was in charge of designing Consort Radahn was thinking back to Vengarl as they both have similar weapons, and wanted to emulate that kind of moveset. But what thwy have taken from him has clearly been re-animated. With extra moves inspired by the base game Radahn fight added in.
It's funny how fromsoft is able to make such great games with free use audio and the same but slightly updated attack animations. Kalameet, Sihn, and Midir sharing the same pattern are the main ones that come to mind

(Though Elden Ring did most of the actual spells better.)

I killed this thing so easily I thought it was a normal enemy. You find him in the Scorpion temple just hanging out, but there's no boss bar or special music to indicate that this is the same headless warrior Vengarl was talking about. I just assumed there were multiple like him and he'd be the biggest one.
Both are inspired by Zodd. Radahn and Shadow of the Erdtree in particular are the Conviction Arc of Berserk where Zodd kneels to reborn Griffith after he is resurrected at the Tower of Conviction and protects him from Guts. Guts had been tricked into causing the ritual that brought Griffith back by fighting against a corrupted prior and apostle named Mozgul, in a battle which involved a mass sacrifice, so the similarities with the Radahn Festival, Mohg, Enir-Ilim and more of Miquella in general are huge.
I was really thrilled when I first found his body in the original version, so far away like it had gone on a journey of its own. I can't fathom why they thought it was better to put it ten feet away from his head

It could be just me but I think original ds2’s placement of vengarl was better than scholar’s was it was so far after the dialogue that told you about it that you may have forgotten at the time but when you rounded the corner after the frejia it made for a really cool moment rather than him just being in some random nook hidden behind multiple fragrant branches.

It could be just me but I think original ds2’s placement of vengarl was better than scholar’s was it was so far after the dialogue that told you about it that you may have forgotten at the time but when you rounded the corner after the frejia it made for a really cool moment rather than him just being in some random nook hidden behind multiple fragrant branches.
Never noticed just how similar the movesets are. Though I avoided fighting Vengarl's body in most runs
