  • Hey everyone in this video we successfully put a 440cc 2 cylinder 2 stroke engine from a arctic cat on a homemade motorcycle I built awhile ago! the thing definitely needs a carburetor tune-up until she can really rip! If you like this project be sure to check out my channel for even more cool stuff such as motorized bikes, go karts, gas scooters, minibikes, ATV's and of course motorcycles!
    Thanks for watching,

I appreciate all the feedback (specifically about the expansion chamber)! That's why I love youtube! I will put it back on ASAP just have to figure out how/where. In the mean time, submit a video/picture of your projects so I can put them in the next video! E-mail in the description

Use the stock exaust the expansion chamber is a game changer

i use to love to build stuff out of junk.i built a 70 mph lawn boy riding mower that would mow grass. i have built a 65 mph electric bicycle it would go faster but the spokes kelp coming loose. i put a SBC on a 1953 ferguson tractor. that i still have. one day i'm going to get rid of it or maybe get it running again. the only trouble with building stuff out of junk for me is i'm 3 days older than dirt and can't really do it anymore. and if they had a love button i would have clicked it for sure

Change your jets. Remember, those engines were designed to run in cold tempratures. Running it in warmer weather will require a jet change in the carbs. I worked with snowmobiles for years. Reading the color of the plugs tells you exactly how well the engine is running. Changing the exaust also requires changing jets. Its a balancing act between the two. Guys forget this when tuning their sled. Any time you make a change, it requires a balancing of the ratio of fuel and exhaust. I built some real sleepers in my day. Now I cannot do any of that stuff. Cancer took care of that. I could hear how bad that engine was running. Also expansion chamber and it MUST have an air box. That was ragged, really ragged. Pull your plugs and " read " them. White or light grey, too lean. Black to dark brown, too rich.

I am 76 years old. Reminds me when I was young like you. Have fun. Brakes are essential. No brakes you dead. Isn’t it great to take what you have laying around and make something good. With high gas prices. How about a street legal diesel motorcycle. Cheap to run. Great fuel mileage. Roadstar.

I built a go cart using a snowmobile engine and chain case. 1 thing i leaned is the gearing needs to be matched. The jack shaft you are using went into a chain case on the snowmobile and it was geared down roughly 2to1. Double check tooth count and it with help with the next part. So the front shaft that drove the track had roughly 8"drive pulleys and now your using a 22 to 24 in tall rear tire. So you need an additional 2.75to1 reduction. You need a bigger rear sprocket minimum of 77. So you can have that 5.5 to 1, or even more 6 or 7 to 1. Follow everyone else's advice and do pipe and intake. You may have to lean out, due to not being in cold weather.

The stock pipe is junk, you’d be better off building a true reverse cone expansion chamber or better yet, dual pipes. Also I’d throw that single carb and manifold in the trash and get a pair of smaller carbs. Ditching the tight bends of the manifold will help drastically for power, and dual carbs are actually easier to tune than a single for snowmobiles. Props for just getting it to work, but you could gear down lower and make way more power, keep the top speed below 70, but it’ll get there in half the time. Also as stated by another person, Ditch the oil injection and run pre-mixed fuel. It’s safer, more reliable, and eliminates the dual tanks.

just some tips! 1) never run that style clutch/cvt without the belt being on, they can fly right off the end of the crank and cause some mayhem 2) possibly look for an aftermarket tune pipe for that specific engine then modding it into a usable configuration, or a cheaper method.. cut the fatter end of the old exhaust you had for the snowmobile open, inside you should see a cone shape with an open hole.... that cone and everything else that leads back to the engine is the tuned pipe. cut the rest of the metal around the cone off. finish the end with a piece of pipe 5-6" long and a big washer, than you can drill out the inside portion of the washer to finer tune the pipe id say atleast 3/4.. maybe 7/8... to start? a properly tuned exhaust can add 5-10hp to that engine.. 3) snowmobile engines are usually jetted for altitude/temp so you may have to adjust those 5) try a liquid engine next? way more power..

Expansion Chambers are what make 2 strokes run like they do. Don't mess with the carb before you put it back on. They are very sensitive to length and diameter so try not to alter it much.

Weld that pipe back together with the expansion chamber. If need be you can always re-route the expansion chamber down under the frame like you did with your custom exhaust. Expansion chamber is vastly important to how your bike was running...

You need that expansion chamber on their that’s why it runs like crap. Looking great though

You will have almost double the power with a good calculated exhaust pipe.

NIce job! I'm glad you had fun laughing your ass off going down the road at 65mph...I think I saw you pass Mad Max on the shoulder. Remember these skills; you will need them following the apocalypse.

Mod the original exhaust to it you will make so much more power with the expansion chamber

What we have here is Mad Max type builder, that plays some of the best Blues I've heard since I watched another of your videos.. Keep em both rolling, as I appreciate an inventive warped young mind, as much as the Blues your providing along with it..

Really surprised at how well it ran considering you cut the expansion chamber off...
