I don't know which part of the story I like better...that Rory told Brian May specifically how to get a great sound, or that Brian May goes out of his way to give full credit to him. The world REALLY needs that level of integrity and generosity right now.
RIP Rory Gallagher and Gary Moore. Two great legends of the guitar.
"The most gentlemanly person you could ever meet."
I am born and raised in the United States of America and IMHO the two greatest guitarists ever come from the Emerald Isle! Gary and Rory forever!
As an Irishman and Corkman was in Germany when Rory died and the respect of the Germans was breathtaking,,total genius RIP your statue is Paul street wish it was you
Rory's humility was matched only by the fire and genius of his work
i bet gary moore and rory gallagher are jammin up in heaven right now... RIP to amazing musicans!! i hope my generation will eventually recononize these legends... until then ill try to do that
I shook his hand outside the Whisky A Go Go - 1976. What a gentleman and friendly to all his fans.
Thank goodness for Rory Gallagher, a man who was true to the music, who played from the heart with passion. In a time where music these days is so shallow and diluted, it's a breath of fresh air to listen to the music of Rory, SRV, Gary Moore, and the like, all musicians who were uncompromising, completely real and very inspiring. Personally, I feel the Rock N Roll hall of fame is unworthy of such talent.
BassmanDave I don't know about the hall being unworthy, but I will certainly say the selection committee is unworthy of Rory Gallagher. They couldn't possibly see the genius and mastery of Rory if it hit them over the head with a fender strat.
ive been a rory fan for 35 years,, i was lucky enough to have seen him about 6 times and i NEVER knew he played the sax !!!
"the most gentlemanly person you could ever meet", Brian May said that!
R.I.P Gary and Rory, to of the world greatest guitar players ever, and i didn't get to see any of them....
Rory was a one-off... there'll never be another like him.
It absolutely breaks my heart that I never got to see Rory Gallagher and Gary Moore jam together live those two wouldve put on the best performance of all time together hands down my two favorites and in my opinion the two true greatest.
Rory the best guitarist ever in my opinion he had something no other great had some have probably been up there like Jimmi Hendrix, S.R.V. Duane Allman, Peter Green, Gary Moore, Ritchie Blackmore, Jeff Beck and Paul Kossoff etc. but none of them beat him he was a genius R.I.P. RORY GALLAGHER AND THANK YOU I WISH I'D HAVE SEEN HIM LIVE WHAT MAGIC ON THAT STRAD.
i had the privilege of seing Rory live and years later Gary Moore twice, two of my favorite guitar players ever.two of the most if not the most melodic and a the same time full of energy and control of the electric guitar.
Brian My is spot on. The rawness and feeling the sweat. You cannot beat a raw band plugged into their amps with talent.
Rory was the most unique underrated guitarist of his time then and now who today can play like this? Very few if anybody Rory along with Gary Moore Danny gatton Roy Buchanan tommy Emanuel dango Reinhardt Wes Montgomery Lenny breau Scotty Anderson frank marino Alvin lee junior brown are a few of my select great guitarists and Johnny hi land last but hardly least
Saw my Guitar Hero 1975 Auckland Town Hall New Zealand,Ears still ringing.Great loss to us all RIP
A true phenomena ! The TRUE GRIT of guitar players . R.I.P. BROTHA .
Yep, just about everybody who knew him says something like that. And as Jack Bruce said "He embodied honesty, in his playing, and in his life"! Have you ever noticed how people's voices change when they describe Rory? You can really hear the respect and admiration they had for him.
I don't want Rory in the BS hall of fame, he's far better than that.
We think the same way...... praised and placed above those ones.
Had never heard of Rory. Then I saw him with Taste at Isle of Wight. Mr. Gallagher indeed.
Hall of fame yes. I saw him more than 10 times in California in the 1970's-80's. No one was better live.
Still shining😆
R.I.P. Rory. You Are Missed
Brian owes a lot of his sound to Rory . . .
Just remember
Rory Gallagher might not be known very well, but still he is the legend along with May and Moore
Rorys the boy!!!!!
Stunned, absolutely that the beloved Rory is not in that stupid hall.
Wow ! ...but agree
You're very welcome, I was looking through my files and realised a lot of people might not have heard it when it was broadcast.
Rock n Roll Hall of fame is BS. All the great artists I grew up with that influenced the music of the eighties, nineties etc either just got in or are still waiting yet you have hip hop and rap artists that don't have a fingernail of talent are in. Rory you were great and always will be. The music fans know better
Who gives a Shit about RnR hall of Cream>
Hall of fame just wants glitter on its walls. Rory Forever.
his god given talent radiated from his soul, like few other musicians in history. No deals with the devil. that he stayed humble and freely shared his secrets shows his understanding of the origins of his gift.
always with the great stuff! thnx Gary!
Thanks again SlumminAngel,a great tribute to the G man!!
This is great! Thanks for uploading!
thanks angel.great!
Often thought if Rory had lived on to see the way music industry Spotify era has gone down the pan today . He still would have made a good living because he have been touring
A genius
RORY 4ever ....... It's is enough for this legend when a reporter asked Hendrix : "How does it feel to be the greatest guitarist ?" and the Voodoo Child response was : "Ask Rory Gallagher" .
One of the Best Guitar Player
Yea, yea, yea, yea, this is great!
Amazing.....
Hi Laffeylad, it was listening to your interview clips that reminded me about it. I should have the whole show somewhere, but it was a one hour show recorded for Rory's 10th anniversary, a mixture of music fading to little bits of conversation which might be difficult to edit into usable chunks. This part is a fair summary of the contributors and their feelings abvout Rory, but I'll go through it again when I get time and see what else I can come up with.
RORY AND GARY.
No1 Mr rory Gallagher I've got a dy guitars Rory Gallagher tribute guitar
Cork had a ROCK STAR SLEEP EASY RORY XXX MARGOT never got to see RORY live my loss RIP RORY XXX ❤🎸🎸🎸❤
Way to many artists in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame who do not belong there.
like who????
Lol like all the damm rappers!!!
Lots of them aren't even Rock and Roll.
Rappers aren't even musicians. They are basically idiots that are talking shitty lyrics to computer generated beats. Calling them musicians is like calling a meat butcher a heart surgeon.
RORY GALLAGHER IS MY GUITAR HERO!
That's credited to Jimi Hendrix on the Dick Cavett Show.
Host: " So how's it feel to be the greatest electric guitar player in the world?
JH: I dunno, ask Roy Buchanan""
Rory never put out less than 100% when onstage, unlike Roy.
2:27 song is called "What's Goin' On". Amazing song.
I've always been fascinated with the electric guitar, but I never took it up when I was young. Now that I'm older, I find myself even more interested than I ever was before, and I wish I would have learned to play. Is it too late for me, being in my 50's, to learn? Any thoughts?
nope, get a teacher who will teach you what you want to learn, go for it age is no handicap
better late than never rip
hi sa,
not sure if understand all the technical on rorys amp and treble booster but thanks for sharing just a few great musicans talk about rory. One day at that great dining table, around will be others who shared these musicians love for Rory, and all his fans....you and me too.
what can i say but the journey here is just in the beginning when you have been so graced to have met him for only some short moments but forever imprinted on our minds.
how can i contact you?
@roryg4ever Hi, it's 'What's Going On' from the Taste - On The Boards album.
Whats up with garys accent I thought he was from Belfast there isnt a hint of it in there Emerald Isle my ballocks remember were your from Gary .Rory never lost his accent . Still your the man but Rory was and is the king.
I saw a greatest guitarists documentary on the telly, Rory wasnt mentioned!!!
Guys like Hank Marvin and Bert Weedon were !! For fucks sake they werent in the same class!!!
I think it's from 2005! At least my disc mention the date 2005 April...
Whoops, sorry about that, it was indeed April 2005. I've fixed it now.
Obviously true musicianship and honesty aren't necessarily what gets you into the R&R Hall of Fame (at all).
Until The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inducts Rory Gallagher, it has NO VALIDITY whatsoever. ... He influenced EVERYONE.
Well said Gary,a a complete insult........blues hall of fame for sure.......Sla’n go foil a Rory 🇮🇪☘️
His father was a jazz musician. : )
Oh..!!?? ..really ??
Does the remainder of Gary Moore’s interview exist? If so, where can I find it?
Just found this if you're still interested

@@SlumminAngel Thank you! It's a fantastic broadcast. I appreciate you remembering that I asked about it.
@@Gigi539464 👍🏻😎
im with you knmurphy1 i hate it..respect the man in say him name right!
And martin carthy! o.0
whats the song at 2 : 27??
Rule of thumb, where theres a g before a h the g is silent.
When there's a GH together as in Gallagher the G is pronounced.
While I like Brian May’s story, he is older than Rory, so if he and his mate were kids, then Rory was a pup!
Brian would have been at university at the time, whereas Rory was already playing professionally, so maybe it felt that way to him.
Glad you enjoyed it. that dining table sounds good - "be sure to save a seat for me"!
You can contact me by PM if you like, just click on my name, then on 'send message' on my page.
@Zepplica911
hendrix didn't say that...
name of the song 2,58 min, please if somebody knows
green river The song is 'What's Going On' followed at 3:15 by 'On The Boards', both from the album Taste - On The Boards.
SlumminAngel. thanks buddy
@ralphhealey You forgot about Van Morrison......
Van Morrison. What? As a guitarist? I don't think so. He's also a coward. Rory played in Belfast during the troubles fir his loyal fans. Van Morrison was from Belfast and wouldn't play there. Rorys the Man.
Scorpio........Right on bro you said it,.......Morrison a fuckin bollox and a coward.
If you're just learning about Rory, congratulations. If you decide not to listen to him, you're cheating yourself.
Ooooooo .. I always thought nit was Roy Ig A Lagga >> how sill i am.
Silly . Rory Gallagher
It's said that Legends are based on facts, though...this story first surfaced in the swirl of stories after the Isle of Wight festival, a famously disorganized Music and Arts festival in 1970. It was known as Europe's version of Woodstock.
Rory's band at that time was called "Taste" and Rory was planning on breaking up the band with a bang...he had talked to Led Zeppelin's manager Peter Grant for a long time looking for advice a short while before and had decided he wanted an end to the bickering and disagreements in the band - the band was on haitus, not knowing if a break-up was coming or not...they actually had dates lined up for a tour and were at the time quite successful, and also famous for their off-stage arguments.
Anyhoo, Rory, who anybody watching you tube clips can tell you was an especially gifted showman as well as guitarist, blew the lid off the Isle of Wight fest - at about mid afternoon, so most people who saw the show also had that impression. Then, later on, Hendrix, arriving late, encountered the usual hordes of hero-worshipers, who gleefully got him wasted(not maliciously, but certainly unfortunately) and he put in a sub-par set(for him) very late after many people had left. Now Hendrix, like Gallagher, was a veteran road-warrior style rocker like AC-DC with very high standards and he very much felt(along with many others who worshiped him) that he had made a poor showing at the Isle of Wight.
So for the story, Hendrix certainly knew how good he was and was stung by the memory of his poor performance, and also didn't like to be cornered by a reporter hungry for a quotable quote assailing him with a microphone(watch someone being interviewed by somebody with poor technique, it looks very much like they're trying to jam a microphone down that person's throat.) So when he was asked "What is it like to be the world's best guitar player?" (a question which particularly bothered him - in 1970 it seemed like another monster guitar player climbed out from under a rock every week) he looked about in his unique style that appeared nervous, and said, "well, uh, I don't know, man, I can't say...why don't you go ask Rory Gallagher?"
This story, though long-winded, is an attempt to give some background to the legend...my impression is that it actually happened and Hendrix(who at the time actually didn't have much longer to live) planned on upstaging Mr Gallagher later on somehow(another thing Hendrix was famous for, he had famously destroyed Eric Clapton and Mike Bloomfield, and I'm quite sure he knew that under the right circumstances he could return the favor to Rory as well.)
ARRGGHH. I hate the way English people pronounce Gallagher - they say Gal-a-gur. It is an Irish name and should be pronounced Gal-ah-her. The secong "G" is silent. Listen to Gary Moore he prononunces it correctly (most of the time).
Good video thanks!
I am a Scot. We pronounce it more with the G sound but also as GH together which is hard to make the sound in text.
I'm pretty sure that actually didn't happen man.
