    Just a wonderful human being, so humble, so modest.Put him on a stage and you're letting the lightning out of the bottle. There's just no one but no one better live than Rory, and believe me I've seen most of the so called greats, but none came close to Rory. Absolute legend, the Maestro ☘

    A true gentleman, eloquent both verbally & musically; modest; man of the people; no "star" antics or pretensions. I saw him only once 1972 Xmas-New Year concert , Dublin National Stadium. A terrible, unnecessary loss to Ireland and far beyond. World's greatest guitarist , ever, with a true, rich singing voice. R.I.P. Rory.

    I wish he didn’t pass away. Sounds like very humble gentleman who just loved to play and make music. Sad, that I never got to see him live. I feel like every music video, brings me to knowing him though his guitar playing and his unique style of playing the blues. Rest In Peace, to an outstanding musician, man and person.

      It makes me laugh when I hear people call Rory a guitar god..........Rory’s answer to that I’m sure would have been Guitar God ??........I’m just a guy with a strat and a Vox AC 30 giving everything I can....WHY????......because it’s my job and I love what I do.........🇮🇪☘️🇮🇪

    • @That70sGuitarist

      @@emmetnolan7081 Spot on, Emmet, chalk it down! Rory was "as sound as an Irish pound," to use a long since outmoded expression many of my Irish friends used to use.😉
      As a guitarist myself, I've learned a great deal from the greats, including Rory, but I'm not naive or deluded enough to call any one player "the greatest ever." Rory certainly was one of the greatest guitarists, and he's definitely in my top five favourite players and greatest influences. That's more than enough, as far as I'm concerned.
      "The greatest guitarist ever?" It's probably someone we've never even heard of, and probably never will! Either way, Rory was an amazing performer and a great human being, and what more can you ask for?😉
      Rest you gentle, sleep ye sound. You are dearly missed.♥️

    He actually was kind of brilliant about the whole scene. Like they say often. He was his own man. If it counts a whole lot or not he was right. Righteous man? No. He always qualified stuff and tried to be open minded. Yup. He was remarkable and I'm happy he was busy learning, getting better and exciting his audiences and delivering strong moving phrases over and over again and he obviously loved music. The show was a side part and he did stuff to do that part as well. Very dedicated and talented

    I also adore watching any Rory interviews, although I'm constantly amazed at how uninformed so many interviewers are. I'd like to think given Rory's intense love and masterful interpretation of the Blues, they could find someone slightly more knowledgable than these dills they come up with. Whether these banal questions phased Rory we'll never know, as always, he remains the consummate gentleman. Thanks for this.

    I'm a big Rory fan, but I'm stunned that people think these interview questions are stupid. Most of them are good, valid questions:
    How do you feel about Taste's music today?
    When and why did you decide to part company?
    How would you describe your relationship with Gerry McAvoy?
    Why did you stop using keyboards?
    What do you get out of the blues and who are the guys you like?
    You have stayed true to your roots and not changed your style, why?
    Why doesn't the radio play your songs despite the fact you have tremendous talent?
    What are your goals and what do you want to do with your music?
    What sort of satisfaction do you get when you see someone in the audience getting off on your music?
    So can someone tell me 1) What is wrong with those questions? and 2) what would you have asked instead?

      @twilightatireland 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Interesting that you mention Coverdale. He has gone on record as saying when Richie Blackmore left the Deep Purple set-up they had a band meeting to decide what to do. They decided to continue and get a new guitarist. Rory was top of the list.

    • @danielfisch389
      @danielfisch389 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@twilightatireland yes, I've read about that too. But, aside from the fact that Rory had always preferred to do things his way, he wouldn't have been happy with the funky direction that Coverdale and Hugues were taking (which was the reason why Blackmore left). As Bob Geldof rightly said, he wouldn't have been happy in the Stones either, as he wasn't a sideman, but a leader

    Rory just wouldn't say much about the Taste break-up. Unfortunately, his best line-up and those two guys just totally blew it - those Stud albums are complete junk - they went from Taste to absolute soft crap. Shame, because that was one hell of a band and they played great as Rory's back-up - the problem was, they didn't get it through their heads about who was BOSS. The crooked manager and the money situation was what it was, but that would eventually have been sorted out. They regretted it later, but by then, the bridge had been burned.
