At 9:10 in the video if you have HDR off you most likely want sRGB, not standard. RTINGS did an Indepth review of this monitor and stated that sRGB mode is so good for color accuracy that they couldn't even tune the monitor with custom settings any better than that mode. A great mode for anyone doing any design work (photoshop, video editing, or anyone who wants pristine color accuracy). Use that mode and drive down the brightness when you want to get work done and not burn out your eyeballs (especially at night). Also you can activate Windows 11 "night light" to drive down blue light so you don't get eye fatigue at night (that will of course make the color accuracy inaccurate but its good when not doing design work).
Excellent tips. People find the SRGB to be quite washed out. I say use it for everything except gaming (unless you want to of course). For Gaming, I use standard, just to get a bit more saturation. I know its not accurate, but it looks damn good!
The A04 driver for this monitor was just released! It says they improved the peak 1000 performance, do you think you could do an update video? Thank you for all the information you provide in these videos, very helpful :)

Got mine 2 days ago. I use wallpaper engine for animated wallpaper, also auto hide icons on desktop after 30 sec and auto hide taskbar. We'll see how it goes. I guess its good to turn off hdr while not gaming.
The auto hdr option in dell's display manager is actually awful to use now on the most recent firmware. Better to just manually switch it since the display now turns off and recalibrates anytime you switch hdr modes. Meaning any time you click between a game and desktop application, everything will flicker and recalibrate now lol. Not a big deal. I just have it set to HDR1000 mode all the time. Works just fine on desktop applications still imo

why did you not just turn on hdr to demonstrate is there a specific reason or just for it to be easier to see? Also I love this monitor but find it gets dirty very fast, I get like bubble like marks on the screen all the time. Do you have a good safe way of cleaning these off?
Turning HDR off and on can be quite clunky with some of the software, obs screen record just get completely white washed. That was the only reason i didnt turn it on to demonstrate. I use the microfibre cloth that came in the box (which has instructions for wet cleaning as well), but it is a bit small. Other then that, I only use Zeiss lens cloth - its much larger and really high quality microfibre; amzn.eu/d/9dDf3lT
HDR on, for sure. However, it can look a bit washed out. That's not because HDR colours are bad, its because standard presets can be a bit over saturated. Use the "Creator" prefix with sRGB in non HDR mode - thats the most colour accurate mode and you will see that it looks washedout/ more like the HDR mode.
My unit has this issue of everything looking super warm, how dp you pick any of the HDR presets and be able to get rid of the red overpowering the image?
Is this after the windows HDR colour calibration? If not, give that a go first. I feel mine is a bit on the blue side. Maybe try resetting the colours to factory and then re-calibrate.
@@DoubleTakeTechUk I ended up returning it, after that I tried the Neo G8 on sale, went through 2 units both with Scanlines, in the end I kept my LG C1 48" as my daily driver until the new wave of QD-Oled 32" monitors hit the market, it's funny how my LG C1 48" smoked the Dell and the G8 in everything except than G8's full screen maximum brightness.
hey i cant get to my adjust video color setting in the nvidia control panel, all it shows is the 3d setting tab and nothing else do you know how to fix this?

However, its the most space saving I could find. The rotation is a bit loose, but it doesn’t move out of position once set. Any slight knock though, and its tilted.
Hey, I've got the same monitor and used the same guides to setup my monitor. Just still deciding with few different takes on it. Do you find the colours are better with Dell default icc profile or w/o it? Also when using Nvidias desktop colour settings with out overriding to reference, I think the windows HDR calibration icc isn't working and you get the Nvidia's colour settings.
Yes I have been playing about with this, as I feel colours aren't saturated enough. I have tried a few different ICC profiles, and changing between them does show a difference, which tells me that my nvidia colours aren't overriding the ICC profiles. Maybe try doing a clean install on the Nvidia drivers and then retry the ICC profiles? I find myself increasing colour saturation to max to make up for a slightly washed out effect you get when HDR is turned on. Let me know if you found a good work around!
Great video dude! I'm torn between the Alienware AW3423DWF and the ASUS VG34VQL3A, but I'm leaning toward the AW3423DWF because of its stunning display quality. However, the concerns around burn-in and poor text rendering have me hesitating. Your videos on the AW3423DWF have really thrown me into a catch-22 because you showcase to make it greater than what I expected! What I'd use it for: productivity (coding and Photoshop) and gaming in my downtime. For context, I’m currently using a laptop with Windows 11, an i7-13700H (2.40 GHz), RTX 4050, and 32GB of RAM. Given your experience, how does this monitor hold up for extended productivity sessions, particularly when dealing with text-heavy tasks like coding? And out the box is the text really bad without using software what other people have used on OLED monitors like MacType etc. Is the burn-in risk as significant as some say, or is it something I might be overthinking? Would love to hear your thoughts and also anyone else's who has hands-on experience with either monitor!
Still an issue with QD OLEDs im afraid. Anyone got a fix for it? Many a subreddit suggest ways to alleviate it, but i cant make it go away enough that i dont notice it
I’m having some screen tearing issue I’ve deep dived into my settings and done some weeks of research. Specs are I9-13000k 4080 super I don’t know what the setting on the monitor or in PC that’s wrong for my gaming experience.

Sorry for the confusion, i think at some point an update changed the names, but i might be wrong. In any case - HDR peak 1000 mode is the only one you should use. This is something that Hardware Unboxed has tested and confirmed.
Guys..I just got this monitor but when I turned on hdr, the color looked really washed out. Is there any setting or color profile that I missed out? I updated the firmware as well
I don't know what you did exactly, but I too got this monitor recently and my settings (followed exactly by this video, except that I left the SDR slider at 35 instead of 20) do not look washed out. The colors are very vibrant, the blacks are perfect and the whites as well. That being said I have not updated the firmware as of yet, but i'm thinking you guys don't have something specific enabled. @simptravelling9121 @grimer1805 @cohans124

I've been thinking of getting this monitor. Did you like it more than the G7? I've never had an ultrawide and I'm not sure about it. I did have an odyssey Neo G7 for about a week. It was defective so I returned it and didn't get a new one. The curve was kind of annoying. Is the curve on this one just as extreme or more subtle? Thanks!
Very good question, nothing bad to report out. HOWEVER, I have found that I am NOT using HDR very often. I find it's very bright for me generally, and I like to keep low brightness. That's probably just me. In terms of performance, I struggle to use any other monitor now! As far as ultrawides go, this was my first. Since making this video, I have had to change my setup to make my desk DEEPER, so the monitor is further away from me. Otherwise, I felt it was too close and I had to constantly turn my head to view content on the sides of the screen. Apart from that, no other concerns!

The guy from the reddit post got burn in issue and he said that he is done with Dell and this monitor. Did you see the post again? He also said that those instructions a no longer valid after the firmware update. I want to know your thoughts on that. Do you still leave contrast down to 67%? I was playing diablo4 for the first time and for that game HDR looks very bad. When I turn it off on Windows and leave hdr on in the monitor it looks much better.
should I leave HDR off for MW2 / MW3 and use the dark stabiliser ? its a bit rubbish that you can't change these with HDR on. I know Tv's like LG oled you can change settings.
3:22 my recommendation would be 110 if it where possible... 100 is still a hint to dark for my taste. But It's The G-Sync version, FreeSync wasn't announced yet when I bought it (at launch). Also no Dell Display Manager for me. :(
i downloaded the dell display manager to manage my 360hx alienware, however its only controlling my secondary hfl monitor, how do i get choose which alienware monitor im adjusting using DDM?
14% is very low unless you only work at night and in the dark or live in a very overcast environment. 35% was a good medium for day/night work and play
Well thank you for the feedback! This is the old IKEA setup! The Table top is a Karlby Walnut, which I cut to size, the drawers are standard Ikea Alex Drawers. I have some furniture mounts screwed on top of the Alex draws, and then some LEDs to give the floating effect. And that's it really!
I got this monitor a couple days ago, but not sure if I like it. The colour fringing is noticeable and the hdr looks really weird for me, it's just too dark. It looks so dark even at 100% brightness in sdr the monitor still looks 'dull' and also has a yellow tint. Dunno might return it. edit: Ok so I returned it and found it cheaper elsewhere. Only issue I still have is the colour fringing, but it isn't noticeable unless you are close to the monitor or looking for it. The colours are a lot better now and the brightness is better on this one. HDR still looks bad though in my opinion the SDR looks great though.
Make sure you updated the firmware. I personally like creator mode srgb 2.4 gamma at 60 brightness for sdr. HDR 1000 is really beautiful for games that properly support it
@@johngotti8544 the Dell website has a support section with links to a utility that lets you update the firmware using the monitor's provided data cable. Some of the newer monitors come with the latest pre-installed but mine was a version behind.
@@AstonViIIa Yes it’s not ‘true G-Sync’ but the DWF is G-Sync compatible. I can’t say I’ve noticed a tangible difference going from a monitor with a G-Sync module to the DWF.
has anyone managed to get 4k video content to play? I was not on my pc, nor on connected apple tv4k. only hd with hdr, sometimes hdr10. the apple tv 4k device is showing setting resolution set to 4k so its the apps not providing it. How can i get 4k content?
I switch a lot. Download the Dell display manager to make it easier to switch. FPS for COD, RTS for Dota 2, Standard for normal use, HDR for any pretty games/ movies.

I just bought my monitor and some reason i have a small display picture on my monitor and the rest is black how do i fix my display on my monitor to where the picture is full on my screen? Anybody please help me? 😢
Try these ; Windows monitor resolution. Should be 3440. Nvidia/ AMD software resolution/ aspect ratio settings. Again, 3440 res and 21:9 aspect. Check the AW's menu settings - same as above. Only other thing could be the PIP could be turned on. All else fails, reset the monitor settings.

You're telling to get Windows 11, and then only show nVidia settings? Most people are still using Windows 10, and although nVidia does have a bigger share of the industry against AMD, this monitor does have Freesync support, and you could have talked about AMD settings... hmm.
There seems to be better performance on nvidia, generally, for HDR. Unfortunately I dont have an AMD system to help reciew that properly. Sorry about the inconvenience there. I can repair hardware unboxed’s reviews where they explain the HDR issues with AMD graphics cards.
There’s a couple of things on your video which is pointless the Nvidia control panel for video. You don’t need to touch that it won’t do anything you do that on the change resolution same goes for HDR calibration from Windows. You don’t want to touch that either just leave it on default, because already has the values on the monitor.
@@Haddley333 hello sorry for the late response no you don’t have to do that the monitor does it for you if you go to settings then display scroll down and you’ll see advanced display it’s already done for you. The only thing that’s good about the calibration tool you can change the saturation.

But then I did a contrast calibration and everythign looks great. The guy in this vid has his contrast waaaay low not sure how he does it lol I have mine at 91% and looks so good.

Also if you struggle with ugly colors with HDR on with Nvidia RTX 40xx cards you can set up your Digital vibrance on 60%+, i have mine there and colors are just perfect in every game and on desktop.
Windows HDR app completely fucked up my HDR calibration. I only got a test pattern on the first black screen now my white are way too bright and I cant fix it. If your hdr is working don't fuck with it.

Do you have hdr enabled in the settings of your pc? For me that turns all the nice dark blacks into a weird grayish color

How do i change the alienware logo colours at the back?

Care though - this stand isnt quite strong enough for the ultrawides, but I still prefer it over others for the space saving

Also I love this monitor but find it gets dirty very fast, I get like bubble like marks on the screen all the time. Do you have a good safe way of cleaning these off?
Turning HDR off and on can be quite clunky with some of the software, obs screen record just get completely white washed. That was the only reason i didnt turn it on to demonstrate.
I use the microfibre cloth that came in the box (which has instructions for wet cleaning as well), but it is a bit small.
Other then that, I only use Zeiss lens cloth - its much larger and really high quality microfibre; amzn.eu/d/9dDf3lT

HDR on, for sure. However, it can look a bit washed out. That's not because HDR colours are bad, its because standard presets can be a bit over saturated. Use the "Creator" prefix with sRGB in non HDR mode - thats the most colour accurate mode and you will see that it looks washedout/ more like the HDR mode.

My unit has this issue of everything looking super warm, how dp you pick any of the HDR presets and be able to get rid of the red overpowering the image?
Is this after the windows HDR colour calibration? If not, give that a go first.
I feel mine is a bit on the blue side. Maybe try resetting the colours to factory and then re-calibrate.
@@DoubleTakeTechUk I ended up returning it, after that I tried the Neo G8 on sale, went through 2 units both with Scanlines, in the end I kept my LG C1 48" as my daily driver until the new wave of QD-Oled 32" monitors hit the market, it's funny how my LG C1 48" smoked the Dell and the G8 in everything except than G8's full screen maximum brightness.

Unfortunately, its not sturdy, as its not meant to be used for ultrawides! However, its the most space saving I could find.
The rotation is a bit loose, but it doesn’t move out of position once set. Any slight knock though, and its tilted.
Hey, I've got the same monitor and used the same guides to setup my monitor. Just still deciding with few different takes on it. Do you find the colours are better with Dell default icc profile or w/o it? Also when using Nvidias desktop colour settings with out overriding to reference, I think the windows HDR calibration icc isn't working and you get the Nvidia's colour settings.
Yes I have been playing about with this, as I feel colours aren't saturated enough. I have tried a few different ICC profiles, and changing between them does show a difference, which tells me that my nvidia colours aren't overriding the ICC profiles.
Maybe try doing a clean install on the Nvidia drivers and then retry the ICC profiles?
I find myself increasing colour saturation to max to make up for a slightly washed out effect you get when HDR is turned on.

Great video dude! I'm torn between the Alienware AW3423DWF and the ASUS VG34VQL3A, but I'm leaning toward the AW3423DWF because of its stunning display quality. However, the concerns around burn-in and poor text rendering have me hesitating. Your videos on the AW3423DWF have really thrown me into a catch-22 because you showcase to make it greater than what I expected! What I'd use it for: productivity (coding and Photoshop) and gaming in my downtime.
For context, I’m currently using a laptop with Windows 11, an i7-13700H (2.40 GHz), RTX 4050, and 32GB of RAM. Given your experience, how does this monitor hold up for extended productivity sessions, particularly when dealing with text-heavy tasks like coding? And out the box is the text really bad without using software what other people have used on OLED monitors like MacType etc. Is the burn-in risk as significant as some say, or is it something I might be overthinking? Would love to hear your thoughts and also anyone else's who has hands-on experience with either monitor!

This does happen as a side effect of HDR.

I got mine today and it as amazing but the stand is faulty which leaves the screen at an odd angle, customer service is super tedious
boss why does it says in the tutorial to set hdr 1000 but why are you are suggesting display hdr?
Sorry for the confusion, i think at some point an update changed the names, but i might be wrong. In any case - HDR peak 1000 mode is the only one you should use. This is something that Hardware Unboxed has tested and confirmed.

I don't know what you did exactly, but I too got this monitor recently and my settings (followed exactly by this video, except that I left the SDR slider at 35 instead of 20) do not look washed out. The colors are very vibrant, the blacks are perfect and the whites as well. That being said I have not updated the firmware as of yet, but i'm thinking you guys don't have something specific enabled. @simptravelling9121

I've been thinking of getting this monitor. Did you like it more than the G7? I've never had an ultrawide and I'm not sure about it. I did have an odyssey Neo G7 for about a week. It was defective so I returned it and didn't get a new one. The curve was kind of annoying. Is the curve on this one just as extreme or more subtle? Thanks!

Very good question, nothing bad to report out. HOWEVER, I have found that I am NOT using HDR very often. I find it's very bright for me generally, and I like to keep low brightness. That's probably just me. In terms of performance, I struggle to use any other monitor now!
As far as ultrawides go, this was my first.
Since making this video, I have had to change my setup to make my desk DEEPER, so the monitor is further away from me. Otherwise, I felt it was too close and I had to constantly turn my head to view content on the sides of the screen.
Apart from that, no other concerns!

The guy from the reddit post got burn in issue and he said that he is done with Dell and this monitor. Did you see the post again? He also said that those instructions a no longer valid after the firmware update. I want to know your thoughts on that. Do you still leave contrast down to 67%? I was playing diablo4 for the first time and for that game HDR looks very bad. When I turn it off on Windows and leave hdr on in the monitor it looks much better.
should I leave HDR off for MW2 / MW3 and use the dark stabiliser ? its a bit rubbish that you can't change these with HDR on. I know Tv's like LG oled you can change settings.

the qd oled dwf works fine, the alienware 240hz works fine with it also, just the 360hz doesn't seem to be supported for anyone wondering
why didn't you switch on HDR before making this video?
I did for some of the B roll, however the HDR was doing some weird things to the screen record part so I had to disable it.
14% is very low unless you only work at night and in the dark or live in a very overcast environment. 35% was a good medium for day/night work and play

There was a firmware update in February that I think fixed the HDR Peak 1000 performance.

The Table top is a Karlby Walnut, which I cut to size, the drawers are standard Ikea Alex Drawers.
I have some furniture mounts screwed on top of the Alex draws, and then some LEDs to give the floating effect. And that's it really!

I got this monitor a couple days ago, but not sure if I like it. The colour fringing is noticeable and the hdr looks really weird for me, it's just too dark. It looks so dark even at 100% brightness in sdr the monitor still looks 'dull' and also has a yellow tint. Dunno might return it.

Ok so I returned it and found it cheaper elsewhere. Only issue I still have is the colour fringing, but it isn't noticeable unless you are close to the monitor or looking for it.
The colours are a lot better now and the brightness is better on this one. HDR still looks bad though in my opinion the SDR looks great though.

Make sure you updated the firmware. I personally like creator mode srgb 2.4 gamma at 60 brightness for sdr. HDR 1000 is really beautiful for games that properly support it

@@johngotti8544 the Dell website has a support section with links to a utility that lets you update the firmware using the monitor's provided data cable. Some of the newer monitors come with the latest pre-installed but mine was a version behind.

has anyone managed to get 4k video content to play? I was not on my pc, nor on connected apple tv4k. only hd with hdr, sometimes hdr10. the apple tv 4k device is showing setting resolution set to 4k so its the apps not providing it. How can i get 4k content?

I switch a lot. Download the Dell display manager to make it easier to switch. FPS for COD, RTS for Dota 2, Standard for normal use, HDR for any pretty games/ movies.

Try these ;
Windows monitor resolution. Should be 3440.
Nvidia/ AMD software resolution/ aspect ratio settings. Again, 3440 res and 21:9 aspect.
Check the AW's menu settings - same as above.
Only other thing could be the PIP could be turned on.
All else fails, reset the monitor settings.

You're telling to get Windows 11, and then only show nVidia settings? Most people are still using Windows 10, and although nVidia does have a bigger share of the industry against AMD, this monitor does have Freesync support, and you could have talked about AMD settings... hmm.
There seems to be better performance on nvidia, generally, for HDR. Unfortunately I dont have an AMD system to help reciew that properly. Sorry about the inconvenience there.
I can repair hardware unboxed’s reviews where they explain the HDR issues with AMD graphics cards.

There’s a couple of things on your video which is pointless the Nvidia control panel for video. You don’t need to touch that it won’t do anything you do that on the change resolution same goes for HDR calibration from Windows. You don’t want to touch that either just leave it on default, because already has the values on the monitor.

@@Haddley333 hello sorry for the late response no you don’t have to do that the monitor does it for you if you go to settings then display scroll down and you’ll see advanced display it’s already done for you. The only thing that’s good about the calibration tool you can change the saturation.
@@ChaosAlter no prob appreciate the feedback. I did everything in this vid and was ready to just game on SDR because everything looked so grey and washed out. But then I did a contrast calibration and everythign looks great. The guy in this vid has his contrast waaaay low not sure how he does it lol I have mine at 91% and looks so good.
Just a suggestion and baseline for the newer folk. Absolutely agree some settings are less important than others.

I am doing an updated settings guide after having used it for a year. Should be out in the next 2-3 weeks.
Also if you struggle with ugly colors with HDR on with Nvidia RTX 40xx cards you can set up your Digital vibrance on 60%+, i have mine there and colors are just perfect in every game and on desktop.
Windows HDR app completely fucked up my HDR calibration. I only got a test pattern on the first black screen now my white are way too bright and I cant fix it. If your hdr is working don't fuck with it.
Search for Color Management in control panel and simply delete the profile that was created with the Windows 11 HDR calibration app.
