  • We’re running full steam ahead as the Stunt Double rolls back into the shop this week! First, Stacey reveals the wheels and tires that are going to accentuate that 6” lift, then He dives headlong into the drivetrain of this beast and comes up with a hot crate engine and a high-performance transmission to get the Stunt Double ready for the road. But that’s not all…. We also take some time out for a visit with the guys from American Powertrain and so much more. Check out the sparks flying in the garage on Gearz.

    My 1st pickup was a 1978 K10 Fleetside long bed I bought in 1980 with 12,500 miles on it.
    Came with a never used Fisher 8' power angle plow and a 4" lift.
    Living in the northeast the plow would've come in handy, but I couldn't find anyone who was looking for someone to do it.
    So I sold the plow, bought me a set of 15"×10" aluminum wagon wheels and wrapped them in 14/36×15 ProTrac High Rollers and bolted in a 3" roll bar with 4 KC Daylighter off road lights.
    Needless to say it spent alot of time in the mud, water and snow.

      wild bill I really enjoyed the show when it would come on regularly. I know the network screwed it up for him. The main thing is now a days is these shows are just an infomercial. Stacey never finishes projects on the show, I mean they have been dragged out to death. The network he originated from are just as bad. Well at least truck tech and Detroit muscle finish projects on the show. It may take them two seasons.

      That is like any of these shows Bill, They show you how to install a water pump and it takes them an hour long show to go on and on about removing and installing bolts holding it together and the next time you see the car or truck it is in the back ground in a billion pieces until nine years later when they show it all finished off, and never explain things like HOW it was wired, or what problems they ran into welding a Ford Mustang II sub frame into a 1977 Pontiac or anything LIKE that!! In one show I used to watch they even said "in the next episode we will show you how to put in a rear half (sub frame) in a Chevy Nova and a four link suspension, and then NEVER SHOWED that episode and then still never aired it if they DID even record it!! Then about three years later they showed the car making runs down a track!!

    I recently picked up an '86 K10, the junk motor runs good so I'll keep it going for a while, I had to replace all the brake lines and the hydraulic clutch setup, a few electronic issues that I straightened out, now I just got done doing a small lift. I do this because I like the truck, it's easy to work on and the price for parts are reasonable which is convenient for me since I'm not rich. This truck sat for 15 years, I flatbedded it to my house not running and with 4 flat tires, now it has a new lease on life. I forget which show it was but at the end of the show the host would say "Don't crush 'em, restore 'em", it could've been Stacy

    This is just great for someone under 50 years old with a big ole bank account.
    I’m 70 years old with an income that is fixed. I’m rebuilding a late 80’s 3/4 ton pick up that will never be pushed to hard other than working on the farm, It has a millennial anti-theft devise (5 speed) and as I can afford it it will have a rustollium enamel paint job.

    Love that so many square bodies are featured on the show but these days it's just more of the same. Blow the truck apart and toss big bucks at all brand new components. That engine that went into this thing, by the time you top it off with the EFI, costs more than I have into my entire truck so far including the cost of the truck. I miss the good old days when the show was about doing the work to repair or refurbish components yourself to save some money here and there and avoid just ordering everything brand new out of a catalog.

    • @kevinwheeler5595
      @kevinwheeler5595 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Shane Singleton where do you think the money for the show comes from? Many of the parts are donated I imagine for the marketing.

    • @Shane-Singleton
      @Shane-Singleton 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kevinwheeler5595 Promotional parts being donated by manufacturers for advertising? Inconceivable! Seriously though, I realize that but it doesn't change my opinion on the matter. It's all turning into nothing but builds doing nothing more than using brand new parts. To me it amounts to nothing more than one big commercial. And that's not what these shows used to be about back in the day. Even Gearz wasn't always this bad about it.

    I lost some respect for him there. for those of us that actually WORK for a living, all of the accessories, having functioned before, will function just fine after. he called everything junk. I would say the short block was perfectly fine as a builder. the heads? well, depends on how much power or what you want. those were torque heads, not horsepower. they did need to be worked though. the cam and headers would have picked up some big numbers, if the heads were massaged. sure, not a 450hp and 500t engine but it would have saved you about 5k most of us don't have. as for the carb? Holley for street or Edelbrock for off road. the EFI he was selling is about $2k.

      My personal favorite was the Cougar he built that was powered by the Jon Kaase built Boss big block.That car probably cost nearly 100,000 in parts alone.It's over 7,000 dollars just to purchase the Kaase heads,intake,etc(using your own short block).The whole engine package used in That car was probably 30,000 dollars,and what normal working class guy can afford something like that?He uses astronomically priced parts and speak about them as if they are affordable,making the vast majority of the projects he works on unattainable to most people.

I wanted a simple carbed engine and a simple C6 tranny that were both tough as nails without miles of wires and all that horse shit. It makes a cool looking build on a TV show but for my own personal use..even if I had that kind of money to play with...I'll take massaged stock.

      The motor is around $5500 on the company website and add $2000 if you want that EFI. Lift $1500-2000+ depending on how many "issues" you fix from the lift episode. Wheels and tires probably $3500+/- depending on your choice of wheel and tire package. Trans $1500 on monster transmission's website add about $350 for a converter and $75 for custom paint.. Plus interior and body work and paint and probably new wiring. Plus you need a vehicle and the skill to do the work which is the bigger issue. Now it's nothing the average guy can't do himself with time and some ca-shish. So over $20k easy and probably over $30k. I kinda would like to do something similar so I played around a bit with numbers.

    just my opinion but to me LS swaps are a fad, a built original style will always be cool in a vintage truck. example: lets say in the 90's you swap in an LT1 at that time it was cool, now it is not worth much more than a boat anchor. An LS swap will only be cool for 10 years if that till the next thing comes out. On the other hand a built oldschool engine fits the truck like the original, looks right, will never go out of style, and works just fine.

    Not a daily driver in my opinion. A daily driver should, by definition, be easy to maintain with stock parts over-the-counter from any local auto store. This truck is nice, but so after-market, it will make it very difficult for the next owner to maintain for daily driving purposes. If you have to special order custom parts, the truck will be down for several days at a time. Not good.

    LS or rather lq4 swap would have been a lot cheaper. Look around and a well worn 200k truck 6.0/4l80 could possibly be had for not much more than the holley efi alone.

    Lotta people here whinin about the cost of the parts. Whole point behind these shows is to build cool shit for you to get ideas from, not build exact replicas of. (Unless you want to, and actually have the budget.) Reuse parts if you have to, clean em up and paint em to look new with a rattle can. Go with building your own engine instead of a crate one. Do whatever you want / need to fit your budget and skills, but shut the fuck up. Again, it's a show to take ideas from, not bitch about your poor life choices leavin you too broke to build whatever.
