To be honest I was completely overjoyed when the trailer came out... but some things did not sit well during the movie. Especially that whole Merovingian part
This movie should have never been about Neo and Trinity. They should have created an entirely new story with new characters, a new plot, and new everything! They really dropped the ball with this one.
I feel like this movie was initially going to be a commentary on the ethics of Artificial Intelligence. Long story short, the movie is pro A.I. but for some reason(s) it had to dumb itself down that it was reduced to self aware meta commentary. Overall, it felt unnecessary.
Here is a thought. I just started watching this break down and as they referenced the natstalgia trap the movie got hung up on. I have to think, that in it self is a direct call out to us as consumers and fans of the franchise. We are creatures of habit that love comfort and familiarty in everything we consume. To the extent of regurgitating things just to consume them all over again. I think if it was done intentionally, its actually clever storytelling. Just a thought.
De-valuate your own story for a meta commentary about how much you hate the fans of your former work is not clever storytelling, it's more creator ego trip. If Wachowski has nothing new to tell in the Matrix, don't do Matrix 4, nostalgia baiting doesn't entertain anyone, lecturing the audience how lazy Hollywood became, doesn't either.
Personally I think they should have gone all the way and made it that the Analyst turned Neo into an actor named Keanu Reeves who started and co-produced a film trilogy called “The Matrix”. Would it have annoyed people? Yes but it would have been bold AF
I remember I was seriously super hyped for this movie cause this franchise took the action genre to another level back then , alot of other movies were mimicking slow mo bullet action style like crazy after the 1st movie came out , it was so wild and unlike anything we ever saw until 1999 came around despite some parts of me did a 4th Matrix wouldn't made no season but yet I was still excited cause crazy insane the action set pieces were going be compared back in the early 2000s but OMG 😢 the action just felt so bland in the 4th one doesn't come no where close as the epic essence of the action the other 3 movies had
The director sabotaged this movie so they wouldn’t make more. The clues are everywhere. The marketing posters, the self awareness in the plot and the lazy choreography. Hopefully this is the last one because it didn’t need to continue.
She has all the rights concerning her property but I will never rewatch it again. Thank you for the sabotage- I would have much preferred a studio film.
I was among the first fans of the original movie. It was almost life changing back in 2000, with new ways of thinking. I didn't like this new movie, and the video's narrator explained it pretty well.
This was an intentional FU from the Wachowskis to Warner Bros.
Yup 100% WB were going to do it, with or without the Wachowskis...
The original "Matrix" was done by visionaries. "Resurrections" was done by committee.
reason 8: lacking balls... it is true that you need balls to make great movie! and Wachowski just lost them, figuratively and litterally!
Good One! LOL!
Your wife probably has yours in her bag...
Matrix 4 felt so unnecessary.

Dr.Reel another excellent analysis....
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it!

@@stromaufwaerts-b7w Perfectly said! All that sounds like lazy excuses for a Crappy movie.
Nope, *The Matrix* was not atall an original concept, or even an original execution of existing material, it was a *cut&paste patchwork collage* of well-used SF staples (even the title is unoriginal) dressed up in flashy cgi fx with a Kung Fu garnish (also a re-used motif from 80s Japanimation) .
Avant garde nippon cinema such as *Tetsuo: The Iron Man + 2: Bodyhammer* paved the way for the Wachowskis, but also Manga and myriad SF authors such as Asimov, Bradbury, Gibson to name but a few.
Their concept relied heavily upon quasi religious or spiritual iterations and existential conceits such as qualia, determinism, omnipotence.
*Matrix Resurrections* , whilst technically inferior, actually adds MORE in terms of blue sky thinking 'outside of the box' left previously barren by *Reloaded + Revelations*
Top Gun: Maverick rode a zeitgeist crest (via it's trad Hollywood values) 35 yrs after the event, but The Matrix creators chose to drape their resurrection colors brazenly on the faces of an audience that has grown weary of allusions to liberal or progressive agendas in their ents.
Overall, it's a curious misfire that fits quite well into the overarching mythology of the franchise.

@ this movie is like the sequel trilogy…it doesn’t exist to me.
Around a third of box office goes to theatres and there's also a marketing costs so it lost far more than it seems at first
This movie is like the spoon from the first film. There is no Matrix 4
The problem is the Wachowski sisters made it instead of the Wachowski brothers. End of story.
They made better movies when they were dudes.

Matrix 4 was better than 2 and 3. Lot of surface level movie watchers in the comments
That movie was such a disappointment…I remember watching it and saying in my mind that movie is not a real part of the Matrix Trilogy
I think Lana Wachowski intentionally made it bad. She made it as a parody of the previous Matrix movies.
Let's face it , all the sequels are pretty bad. Just watch the matrix and forget the rest were ever made
Well, they made the damn thing, so there is that.
This commentary brought to you by ChatGPT-5.
imo it was just a lazy money grab. Its common these days.
They should have hired Zack Snyder to direct it .
Not even seen it..
Somehow "4" does not fit a trilogy...
..😂😂😂
I put it on and turned it off with in less the half an hour it was boring
The funniest cope from fans "its supposed to be bad!"
The big reason was it was boring and the story was so confusing 🫤
