I did not especially like No Time To Die when I first saw it but upon seeing it again, I found it inspiring and yours is the first analysis I’ve seen that goes into the depths of what I, too, saw in this movie. For me it was the themes of trust and loss, loss of innocence, loss of love, of living a worthwhile life. Your analysis opened up other themes I had not considered, connecting mythology and poetry. I am new to your channel and it’s quite a coincidence that you published this just as I was inspired to go looking for it. Well done. Thank you.
I really like No Time to Die. It’s a Bond film that had so many set backs and postponed release dates, when it finally arrived on September 30th 2021 it felt like a special event. The film is a rollercoaster. The first hour is great, slows down when Bond gets to London, but it’s nice seeing him interact with the MI6 regulars. It picks up again when Bond goes to Norway and I thought Rami Malek did a fine job as Safin. Who everyone thought was going to be Dr.No Recently, I’ve pieced together what I’d have much preferred to have seen for the final act. A different ending with Bond surviving and having Paloma return in Norway during the chase with Logan and his men. Having a connection with Felix and wanting to avenge him could have made that work. The finale could have been a lot better and felt more epic with MI6 and CIA working together; Bond, Paloma and Nomi infiltrating Safin’s island. Nomi could have sacrificed herself instead of Bond. Bond could have still been shot and poisoned stopping him from being able to touch Madeline and Matilde but the ending I’ve written just for fun is having Bond and Paloma escaping and ending up on an island together and it ends with Paloma saying something like “You haven’t lost your touch”. In the spirt of the Connery and Moore era. I still like the film, despite its flaws and the general consensus of a lot of people hating the film. It’s simply one I can’t rewatch as often as the others because of its downer finale.
@@SmartFabian007 Read the full comment. I said I liked the film but I’d prefer a different ending. What do you think of my alternative of Bond getting with Paloma instead?
@@captain_morgan4462 well paloma is the only good in this movie, that is what all fans can agree on in this shitty film, paloma should have been org bondgirl etc. but barbara wanted to win big at the oscars, like best pic, best actor, best script, etc
Pretty nice idea with this ending trio action. But unreal. Naomi just don't deserve for death. Her sacrifice wouldn't have enough emotional weight. Also romance between Paloma and James was be too... old.Bond fashion. After his "lose" of Madleine and Mathilda because of this smart wirus. Paloma is just comic relief.
Lifelong Bond fan. I utterly despise this movie. Never a fan of the Craig era to begin with, but NTTD is especially heinous for destroying Bond's character, legacy and mythos to suit Craig's massive ego. Bond is a timeless hero of charisma, style and stoicism. It lasted for decades for a reason and EON ruined it for modernity sake.
I saw Dr. NO when I was 14 and I immediately became enamored with the character. During the following 60 years, I've learned not to expect that I'm going to have the same feeling of joy about every James Bond movie. I don't think about these movies as a series but I take each one as a stand-alone movie. If there's a connecting thread from one film to another, that's fine but I don't put a lot of attention on that. I know that I'm not going to like every Bond film, I value the memories that I have of the ones I like and try to forget the ones that I don't. For most people my age, Sean Connery gave us the best version of James Bond. To me, Connery *_was_* James Bond but I didn't like all of the movies that he was in. It's difficult for me to evaluate many of the actors who followed Connery because I just didn't care for the movie they were in. Dr. No was good, From Russia was better and Goldfinger was the best, after that, I realize there wasn't going to be a constant upward trajectory in quality. I don't have an opinion about Lazenby or Dalton, I had no interest in Roger Moore as James Bond and didn't watch any of the films he was in. Brosnan was likeable but again, I didn't care for the movies he was in. I didn't expect to like Daniel Craig but I did. Casino Royale was a very good movie and Craig made Bond his own. Still, I didn't care for every one of his movies. No Time To Die was entertaining enough but it doesn't warrant repeat viewings. They don't make these movies specifically for me, so becoming emotionally invested in the character of James Bond is pointless. I do like to hear thoughtful reviews and your take gave me something to think about.
This is an interesting analysis, unfortunately I disagree with you in the end. The reason why this movie exists can be summed in 3 words: Kill James Bond. Craig always wanted to end his tenure with Bond dying and the filmmakers started with their ending and worked backwards (hence the many plot holes and anti-climatic moments in the final product). Spectre ended with Bond learning his lesson about living the best life he could by sparing Blofeld and quitting MI6. Bond leaving Madeline in NTTD was more of a plot convenience so we can get the surprise that he has a daughter later and less of a genuine emotional moment. The themes in the movie aren't supported by substance but forced via plot holes and we end up with the most pointlessly depressing Bond film ever.
Thank you for this because I have been angry about this movie ever since I saw it. I couldn't help but think they "didn't understand the assignment" because . . . At the time, we watched Covid-19 shut the world down and death was all around us. Just when we could go back to movie theaters, we really needed our 'annual action injection' of the incredible death defying things James Bond does and the impossible fun of him coming through every danger to pump us up. What we got instead was more death. After nearly two years of waiting and death, it was just too much! They killed off Iron Man, John Wick, and they'll be killing off Ethan Hunt no doubt in M:I 8. It felt like such a betrayal. I had too much invested in Bond to be able to handle this inevitability at that time. With a few years' passing, I could maybe watch it again. Maybe, after watching this, with a new appreciation. But it feels like Titanic (I can never watch that again). At least I can stop hating it. LOL I really do love the Daniel Craig Bond series and have watched them all so many times. Quantum of Solace is criminally underrated. They are all excellent movies and well written, IMO, visually stunning and full of exciting action scenes. I think the QoS scaffolding fight is particularly genius!
Thanks for watching and leaving the thoughtful comment! Strangely enough I wanted to upload my Quantum of Solace video too but couldn’t get it past the guard rails, so right now that one lives on my page with the other ones in this series. I will probably never like No Time to Die, nor be able to erase from my mind the sour defeatism that runs through it. But I wonder if, in some future viewing, a eureka moment will reveal an amazing philosophical meaning behind the film. Perhaps all the Craig era films will snap into clear perspective in the same glorious moment. I will finally achieve Bond maturity! Previous Bond films will seem trivial as they march ever backwards through time. I hope not. I think No Time To Die will always be a mishmash; a product of its nervy, pessimistic era. You say that 'experience is the ultimate weapon against oblivion'. Maybe, but by obliterating Bond, Eon have thrown the Bond experience into oblivion
For me No Time To Die is top 5 bond film of all time. Well written, well acted, fantastic music and action scenes had amazing pacing. Saffin didn't wasted his time giving monologue and shoot bond instantly. Hilarious how fans nitpick small thing's but ignore same thing's with other film's. Excellent video. Well thought out. I was a big fan of the Daniel Craig Bond, until this, very disappointing film. Aside from the plot holes, it was clearly an emancipated Bond, and, they killed him off. You CAN'T do that, that's the whole point of the character and the ideals of grit and resourcefulness that James Bond originally and used to represent, and has inspired and given men a measuring stick of masculinity and ideals of fighting for something even when the odds are totally against you. This was probably even worse than what they did to Star Wars. I don't think they'll make any more Bond films and they shouldn't, this isn't the Marvel Universe you can't bring people back to life, and this whole 'rebooting' thing won't change the fact that he died. They ruined it. Also, the England we all knew, the home of Bond, sadly no longer exists. Ultimately who's idea it was to end Bond we'll never know, Daniel Craig claims it was his idea, but he has always trolled and told B.S (and readily admits it) so who knows. All good things come to an end, but they could and should have done better.
