You can also use the full chord setting and play single finger chords as well using the older model approach of playing minor chords using the previous method of playing an Am chord using the A key plus nearest black key to the left and similarily a C7 chord by playing the C key plus the nearest white key to the left. Easier for those of us who grew up on the older models!

@@PianoTone I appreciate the thouroghness for sure! Are you gonna review the casiotone cts 1 or cts400 at some point? Those are the only other 2 I'm juggling atm, but I'm still leaning towards the e373
Spoiler alert! I just received my CTS-1 this week, and will be starting to work on my review this weekend! Not sure if I’ll get it done this weekend or not, but I will try! The CTS-400 won’t be available where I am for a while - once it it I hope to be able to rent one to review.
Hey Tony, great review/tutorial! My PSR-EW310 (same electronics with 76 keys) is arriving tonight, so I’m trying to get a head start. Thank you, this helped a ton!
Thanks a bunch! And that’s awesome congrats! I have to say 76 keys is SO much nicer than 61 (at least for me) - especially when the octave shift isn’t easily accessible and resets when you change voices. Hope you like your 310! Thanks for checking out the channel feel free to subscribe
@@PianoTone I subscribed about 5 minutes in 👍. I would have bought the e373 if not for a really great deal on the EW310, and after seeing your comment about not saving the octave shift I’m super glad I spent a few extra bucks.
Yeah totally worth it; some 61 key boards (PSR-E473, Korg EK50) have dedicated octave shift buttons right on the panel so it’s easy, but diving into a menu every time is no fun - with 76 keys you don’t have to do that anywhere near as often
I enjoyed every detail of the review super amazing 🤩. Only one thing you forgot to mention is loading user style files. I enjoyed the video great job 👏
Hey Tony. Awesome review. Like many others, I am moved to get one of these keyboards. The one thing I did not see that I wish they had included is a Bluetooth receiver. This would make it possible to import pre-recorded music and add piano or other sounds for a fuller music presentation. In any event, thanks for another great review. (Oh teah, I noticed you were playing barefoot, which also made me notice your sneakers on the floor. Are those Newbalance? We have a plant here in Maine, about 20 miles from here, where they are manufactured.)
Thanks so much; you know the new version of this keyboard (PSR-E383) is available now too: th-cam.com/video/Jn9yE3-GsQA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Njqy0hIxiKwrAJ0u Unfortunately they didn't add BlueTooth in this one either - although with either the 373 or 383 you can stream music in from a device in 2 ways; either with a USB connection or a 1/8" cable from a headphone out to the auxiliary in. ANd yes lol those probably are New Balance :) Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
@ Aside from connecting a device with a cable, you can also connect a separate Bluetooth receiver to the USB of the keyboard and “prof!” You’re cable free again…lol. Now I’ll have to go check out the 383. Thanks again.
I just bought this board. I unplugged my MX, set this board up, and discovered only one 1/4 output. Where is the stereo mix on my computer? Does stereo only come through a USB plug?
The one output is a stereo headphone output, so to send stereo to anything else that would require either a TRS cable to connect to another input capable of receiving stereo or a TRS to 2xTR splitter cable to connect to 2 mono inputs on something else. Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
Check what chord mode you are in (page 23 of the manual explains it) - there is “full chord” (you finger the full chord normally in your left hand, but make sure all notes of the chord are below the split point). And there is “Smart Chord” - with this you first specify the key signature of the song (specifying # of sharps or flats-check the manual) which allows you to specify a diatonic chord with one finger . If you’re playing a full g major chord (GBD) make sure you’re in “full chord” mode and that all 3 notes you’re using are below the split point. Thanks for checking out the channel feel free to subscribe!
Sir - Not sure why when I am playing with Acmp mode - playing D chord its displaying F# Dim not sure if this faulty -and its not sounding D chord at all. Greatly appreciate any feedback.
Hi there! An F# Dim is basically a D chord only with a D note instead of a C note (C - F# - A); I would check if you are on the "Smart Chord" chord mode instead of fingered, and if so switch to fingered. Also check where the split point is set in case it is cutting off some of your notes (some below the split point some above). Thanks for visiting the channel, feel free to subscribe
Do you mean use the E373 to trigger the sounds on the Reface? You would need a MIDI adapter box like the DOREMIDI to do that (the E373 doesn't have a 5 pin MIDI out): th-cam.com/video/tCPGI17cly8/w-d-xo.html But with the DOREMIDI adapter you could do that! Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
Hi there! The big thing to consider is whether you want weighted keys or not; most digital pianos will have weighted keys that more closely mimic the "feel" of an acoustic piano - keys on a real piano are harder to press down than keys on a keyboard (which are "synth action"). I have a video describing the difference here: th-cam.com/video/3wO3P6T28mI/w-d-xo.html Digital pianos with weighted keys will cost more, so that's up to you whether you want to spend more to get that; if you're not sure if it's something you will stick with, then it might make sense not to spend too much on your first one (if you stick with it you can upgrade later). Here are some options for starter digital pianos and keyboards: Alesis Recital Pro: fully weighted keys, decent sounds nice user interface, one of the least expensive fully weighted pianos (I owned one for a year and liked it): th-cam.com/video/ZDNyfoJ4gMM/w-d-xo.html Alesis Recital: semi-weighted (not as realistic as fully weighted, but closer to a real piano feel than non weighted; still has decent sounds and 88 keys): th-cam.com/video/vpH0vtfrHmM/w-d-xo.html Casiotone CT-S1: this is a newer keyboard with non weighted keys, but they do have an almost semi-weighted feel, and the piano sounds on this are fantastic (I own this as a portable keyboard - runs on batteries only weighs 8 pounds); it is only 61 keys, but is less expensive than the 2 Alesis models, so not a bad option if you don't want to spend that much. th-cam.com/video/GxABEEahz5Q/w-d-xo.html Hope that helps! @@PianoTone my family have actually owned a grand piano my mom was a pianist so she used to play on it all the time. I didn't have Interest in playing it at the time and I always kept giving up because it was hard however lately out of nowhere I became interested in playing it but unfortunately the piano is in a different city and I won't be practicing in it any time soon so now I am thinking of buying either a digital piano or keyboard but I think a digital piano would be a better choice. And do you think I should get the yamaha p45 or Alesis rectial Pro as you mentioned? Also thank you so much for taking your time responding to my comment it was very helpful and I am definitely subscribing!
@@yomo6624 From what you are saying, I would agree - I think a digital piano is a better choice. Either the Alesis Recital Pro or the Yamaha P45 /71 (the 71 is an Amazon exclusive piano that is the same as the 45) would be great choices. The Yamaha has a more realistic & higher quality key action (it is graded as well as weighted - so feels heavier at the low end and lighter at the right like a real piano - the Alesis is weighted the same across the entire keyboard). The Alesis has a much nicer user interface (more buttons and a screen), line out ports for connecting to external amps, and is less expensive. I reviewed the P45 here: th-cam.com/video/jAEbrZstwSI/w-d-xo.html Hope that helps!
@@PianoTone It play's with the accompaniment off no problem.... But recording bass, drums and melody does not record for user playback .... Show me a video that does it
@@selfpianoreflex4030 I can't try this myself (because I don't own this keyboard), but if you look through the manual on pages 43-44 you should find some helpful info there. It looks like the rhythm/accompaniment gets recorded to track 2, your melody to track 1, and I see something on page 43 that says "If ACMP is turned on, you can independently record just the rhythm sound of Style playback by pressing the START/STOP button then changing the section" Check out that section of the manual it should help you out
Just got my E373. Love the piano sounds...but I am having an issue that might mean returning keyboard to store. Problem is when assigning a drum pattern to one channel, that drum pattern automatically goes to all other channels. When assigning a new rhythm to any channel, the same thing happens: pattern auto-populates on all the other channels. Any experince with this?
After entering the menu, to go back one step, do I have to click through all the functions to go back to the first number? is there any back button? thanks
I think there were issues with the E473 (never heard of any with the E373) - I haven't heard much recently about that though. Thanks for checking out the channel feel free to subscribe

My brother love music and learned basic guitar recently years, it's his birthday in couples next days, i wonder if this should be his first piano? This is the most expensive price i can affort, i wonder if there any better piano with less price, maybe less function but still good for basic-junior learning level?
The Yamaha PSR-E373 is a great keyboard and great value and is excellent for a beginner. The only other option I would recommend in the same price range is the Casiotone CT-S1: th-cam.com/video/GxABEEahz5Q/w-d-xo.html Hope that helps! Thanks for visiting the channel, feel free to subscribe
Now that CS T1 has long been released, as well as the Casio CST 400 and Yamaha EZ300, what are your thoughts on THOSE? I understand for keyboard bed/action, nothing in this $ compares to the CS T1, but I'd like to tinker a little bit in some of the other arranger features. PIANO LEARNING is also a main objective, which is why I've added the EZ300. THe Casino LTK450/250 is also being considered. Sound quality, compact size (Yamahas are LESS so than Casios) and lesson features are all important. I wish the CS T1 had arranger capabilities and built in midi interface as the Yamaha you reviewed. I'm really just getting started after not having touched a piano in more than 20 years when I had taken rudimentary lessons. I play beginner acoustic/classical guitar, but would like to be able to jam (sing, guitar, keyboard) with my musically talented brothter who needs help with digital production/software, so I'd like my keyboard to be at least capable of beginning that journey. GREAT REVIEW, btw... have now subscribed and will check out your other reviews asap. TY.
I have a review on the CTS1 - it is awesome, but no arranger features. The EZ is just the 373 with learning functions but online lessons now are far better than built in learning functions that I wouldn’t bother with the EZ. The CTS400/500 have arranger features but I would recommend sticking with Yamaha either the 373 or 473. Thanks!
@@PianoTone Thanks; I'm taking your suggestion and going with the Yamaha PSR e373, today on sale for $189 on Amazon, in a set format including stand, and headphones (not expecting much from either, but even without those accessories, the 189 is a good deal for keyboard/ac adapter alone) I have been perusing vids/info online for connecting this 373 to an ipad pro 11" 3rd gen, with a USB-C jack, to the USB MIDI (USB-B) on the keyboard. So many reviewers suggest you must get the apple camera adaptor, though i've just found many 3rd party USB-B printer cables with USB-C on the other end, obviating need for any kind of additional cable.... Are you aware of any compatibility issues or reasons why a 3rd Party USB B to USB C, Nylon USB C Printer Cord wouldn't be sufficient to connect the keyboard to Ipad or MBP (also w USB-C/thunderbolt ports) ??? I"m hoping to use garage band and take advantage of built in audio interface for basic recording and other 2-way audio functionality (that is, IF I am understanding the built in audio interface capabilities of this Yamaha. Anywho, just wanted to thank YOU for a great, thorough, straightforward review as well as brief comparisons of other models. Well done and THANK YOU!
@@mubystubuff764 Hey congrats on making the decision and glad you found the reviews helpful! You will love the 373 it's a great keyboard. To be honest I have no idea about whether a USB printer cable (to USB-C) would work or whether you need a camera kit with USB-C (my iPad is ancient lol). Hope your keyboard arrives soon, and let me know how your connectivity works with your iPad and cable if you go that route: - does MIDI work without lag? - does audio stream back from the iPad? (super curious!)
Thank you so much and god bless you❤️. But how did you record the playing part? This keyboard sounds too low in my DAW and needs a lot of work to sounds loud and clear so I suggested play it like your way to get loud and clear sound and then send it to my DAW. Did you record through the speakers or usb connected to the laptop or what? How to record and get the sound like yours?
I would have recorded it with the headphone split to L/R line ins on my mixer/audio interface which then output direct to my iPhone recording the video. I then (probably) boosted the overall volume (I can’t remember if I did that on this video but I usually do) using my video editor. I have found with many keyboards that volume through an audio interface is often not very loud-you could also try recording directly into your DAW from the USB port since this keyboard has an audio interface built in (make sure you use an audio not midi track in your daw). Hope that helps, thanks for visiting the channel, feel free to subscribe
This is an indepth review! Just a question, can I hear the keyboard's built-in speakers when connected to the 1/4 jack? or does it have a setting for it to be heared? I'm having trouble since I can't hear the built-in speakers when connected to external speakers. Thank you in advance!
Hi there! When you connect a headphone or external amp to the headphone port the speakers are disabled (I don’t think you can change that). Thanks for checking out the channel feel free to subscribe
does this keyboard shift higher and lower? I found a song that I played starting at C5 and going up three C's and the piece was so high that it barely had sound. If I start at C4 for this piece then the lower half is sooo low.
Yes you can shift octaves - you have to find it in the function menu, and it will shift back on its own if you change voices (if you’re going to use it alot I would set up your voices etc, shift the octave as you wish and then save it in a registration so you can recall it quickly) Thanks for checking out the channel feel free to subscribe
11:28 is the CFX sound info obtained from Jeremy See's video? Another user (AMusic) commented that it is CFIIIS sound and Jeremy See confirmed it: th-cam.com/video/2wYIZDtBNx0/w-d-xo.html&lc=UgwjbTaodg5tOVrVSNJ4AaABAg
Hi there! When I made this video (which was over a year ago) I had researched where the voice came from and found multiple sources saying it was the CFX Grand; since then I have also heard that it is the CF Grand, so to be honest I cannot say for sure since Yamaha doesn't always document that clearly. That being said, for that price range, it is a fantastic sample. Keep in mind that more expensive models with more polyphony & better/newer processors can make the same base sample sound much better/different as well. Hope that helps!
@@PianoTone yes... I guess if Yamaha says the 373 or the EZ300 has CFX sound but P125 doesn't, it'd probably hurt their sales of P125... but I have EZ300, and DGX-670 with CFX sound and also P125 with CFIIIS sound... and also Garritan CFX and VSL CFX, so by wearing a headphone, I probably can tell whether the EZ300 has CFX sound or CFIIIS sound later on
@@PianoTone ok, I compared these two, and found that PSR-E373 sound quite good, but it doesn't have the superb sound that the DGX-670 has for CFX. Either of these will work well: On-Stage KSP100 (my favorite): amzn.to/3vGeeL0 M-Audio SP2: amzn.to/3fhx7wV Both of these pedals are good quality and have polarity switches (make sure whatever pedal you buy has a polarity switch - that way it will work with any keyboard) Thanks so much for visiting the channel; feel free to subscribe!

They keys are narrower than the keys of piano, right? It seems most keyboards have narrower keys. So each octave on a keyboard is 5mm or 6mm shorter comparing with that of a piano.
Yes you are correct! Most synth action non weighted keyboards with "full sized" keys are slightly narrower, and yes it is about 5mm per octave. The Korg EK-50 is the only synth action keyboard I have come across that does have piano width keys - I reviewed that one here: th-cam.com/video/X59R-PWCoDg/w-d-xo.html
@@PianoTone Thank you! Is the Casio keyboards, such as the Casio CT-X700, CT-X3000, CT-X5000 have standard "full sized" keys? It seems Yamaha keyboards all have the narrower keys.
@@Sarah-jp3ws To be honest I've never seen any of the CTX keyboards no stores in my area have ever carried those. But I would say its a 90% chance they are also slightly narrow, pretty much every synth action keyboard I've ever seen is (it's not just a Yamaha thing). The newer Casio keyboards (Casiotone CT-S1, CT-S400, CT-S500 etc) all are 159-160 mm as well - I have a CT-S1.
@@PianoTone Thank you very much for the prompt reply! Just now I saw a CT-X700, and yes, it is also narrower. 159-160 mm for one octave. I guess similar for the other CT-X. I hope to find something that has the same key size as piano key (no need to have 88 keys, but 165 mm for one octave. no need to be weighted), and auto accompaniment. Roland GO piano seem to have that key size, but no auto accompaniment.
@@Sarah-jp3ws Look at the Korg EK-50! I reviewed that here, and I love that keyboard. It has full width keys, tons of auto accompaniment, and the best user interface on any keyboard I've ever seen. Also has keyboard "sets" as well - pre-effected groups of 4 voices pre layered for you, with one touch buttons to enable or disable the layers. Check it out th-cam.com/video/X59R-PWCoDg/w-d-xo.html
The speakers aren't super powerful on the 373; there is a volume level within the menu system for both the main and layered voices; check that and make sure it's set to the max if needed (127)
DSP is digital signal processing so it’s an extra effects processor your original sound sample is “going through” (like a guitar players effects pedals); articulation means trigger sample B instead of sample A when you press the button
@@rogersbonettmb I've never heard of fake Yamaha PSR E373's before; did you buy it from a reputable store or Amazon? Or second hand from someone? You can check the serial number and register it with Yamaha to see if the serial number works . . . That's about all I can suggest
I don’t recomend this keyboard if you ever want to use it as a midi-keyboard. The sustain pedal doesn’t work in midi-mode. That’s a real bummer for me.
Hi there! I never noticed this issue thank you for letting me know - but there IS a fix I found (just tested and it works): 1) Press the "Function" button, go to the function number 48, change the value to "ON" 2) Go to the function number 53, change the value to 0 3) Go to the function number 54, change the value to 0 I will make a video on this to show the fix. Thanks again for checking out the channel feel free to subscribe.
I found the sustain on the 373 excessive and of very little use as it`s all or nothing. Got one of these a few months ago after a longish layoff, and have found other problems in that it doesn`t now work off the batteries and can`t get the registration memory to do anything. However it`s a decent little keyboard, especially for a beginner and I have been able to put the styles to good use to get back into the swing of playing, so things are far from lost. I do intend to upgrade eventually, probably to an E473, the styles are the same only more of them than on this and the 463 which I tried to get earlier but failed as Yamaha had just withdrawn it.
Check out the Yamaha PSR-EW425 - 776 keys. Did a review here: th-cam.com/video/uDN0uMncuWc/w-d-xo.html Or the PSR-EW310 is a cheaper 76 key option; otherwise the same as the E373

Thanks so much; you know the new version of this keyboard (PSR-E383) is available now too: th-cam.com/video/Jn9yE3-GsQA/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Njqy0hIxiKwrAJ0u
Unfortunately they didn't add BlueTooth in this one either - although with either the 373 or 383 you can stream music in from a device in 2 ways; either with a USB connection or a 1/8" cable from a headphone out to the auxiliary in. ANd yes lol those probably are New Balance :)

How to play G Major chord in e 373, because when I pressed G Major chord it appeared as G7 on the screen ... Em also a problem

I would love to see you connect a Yamaha Reface CP to the e373!
Do you mean use the E373 to trigger the sounds on the Reface? You would need a MIDI adapter box like the DOREMIDI to do that (the E373 doesn't have a 5 pin MIDI out): th-cam.com/video/tCPGI17cly8/w-d-xo.html
But with the DOREMIDI adapter you could do that! Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe

Could you advise me about some keyboards which allows to turn on/off the tracks, even having good sounds?
Psr 710 or 910 s you can turn on and off tracks..I got the keyboard
Uhhh so I am thinking into playing piano however I don't know whether I should start with a keyboard or a digital piano
Hi there! The big thing to consider is whether you want weighted keys or not; most digital pianos will have weighted keys that more closely mimic the "feel" of an acoustic piano - keys on a real piano are harder to press down than keys on a keyboard (which are "synth action"). I have a video describing the difference here:
th-cam.com/video/3wO3P6T28mI/w-d-xo.html
Digital pianos with weighted keys will cost more, so that's up to you whether you want to spend more to get that; if you're not sure if it's something you will stick with, then it might make sense not to spend too much on your first one (if you stick with it you can upgrade later).
Here are some options for starter digital pianos and keyboards:
Alesis Recital Pro: fully weighted keys, decent sounds nice user interface, one of the least expensive fully weighted pianos (I owned one for a year and liked it): th-cam.com/video/ZDNyfoJ4gMM/w-d-xo.html
Alesis Recital: semi-weighted (not as realistic as fully weighted, but closer to a real piano feel than non weighted; still has decent sounds and 88 keys): th-cam.com/video/vpH0vtfrHmM/w-d-xo.html
Casiotone CT-S1: this is a newer keyboard with non weighted keys, but they do have an almost semi-weighted feel, and the piano sounds on this are fantastic (I own this as a portable keyboard - runs on batteries only weighs 8 pounds); it is only 61 keys, but is less expensive than the 2 Alesis models, so not a bad option if you don't want to spend that much.

I reviewed the P45 here: th-cam.com/video/jAEbrZstwSI/w-d-xo.html

How do I record beats without accompaniment on a psr e373 did it once, playback worked. Now I can't do it.
Just turn off the accompaniment (“ACMP ON/OFF” button), and then when you hit play you will only have drums with no accompaniment

@@selfpianoreflex4030 I can't try this myself (because I don't own this keyboard), but if you look through the manual on pages 43-44 you should find some helpful info there.
Hi there; sorry but I don’t understand your question - what do you mean by “assigning a drum pattern to a channel?”
After entering the menu, to go back one step, do I have to click through all the functions to go back to the first number? is there any back button? thanks
Hlo my dear friend..in India some are complain that they are having display issues on this so can I buy this or skip
I think there were issues with the E473 (never heard of any with the E373) - I haven't heard much recently about that though.

Hope your keyboard arrives soon, and let me know how your connectivity works with your iPad and cable if you go that route:
- does MIDI work without lag?
Hi there! When you connect a headphone or external amp to the headphone port the speakers are disabled (I don’t think you can change that).

does this keyboard shift higher and lower? I found a song that I played starting at C5 and going up three C's and the piece was so high that it barely had sound. If I start at C4 for this piece then the lower half is sooo low.
Yes you can shift octaves - you have to find it in the function menu, and it will shift back on its own if you change voices (if you’re going to use it alot I would set up your voices etc, shift the octave as you wish and then save it in a registration so you can recall it quickly)

Ohh one more thing. What is the real difference between DSP and Articulation?
DSP is digital signal processing so it’s an extra effects processor your original sound sample is “going through” (like a guitar players effects pedals); articulation means trigger sample B instead of sample A when you press the button
