Welcome to my youtube channel! This channel and my website are all about the fun journey of learning piano and a little bit about music. You'll find down to earth reviews of products and services I actually own or have tested; everything from keyboard, digital pianos, mixers, mics & other music gadgets, but most importantly reviews and information on some of the learning resources (online courses, apps etc) that got me playing popular songs on the piano in just over a month!
Roland GO:Keys 3 & 5: What's Different?
Differences between the Roland GO:Keys 3 & GO:Keys 5! The GO:Keys 5 costs about $150 USD more than the GO:Keys 3; in this video I go over all the differences to see if that extra money is worth it (which depends on your use case). I'm also including an in-depth speaker comparison, and a brief discussion of the "GO:Keys 5 speakers can distort" issue I've seen reported online. NOTE: I'm only covering the differences in this video, so I'm not redoing demos of voices, styles etc. If you are looking for all that, I've included a link to my full review below

I want the smaller body and the pianistic experience of the P35 with the speakers and the mic input of the EW425. Is there a way to connect a mic to the Piaggero? I'd like to just sing and play, anything else is a nice to have. Thank you so much for the review!
Two years ago I tried the SK-Pro and I was surprised that the sound bank is from Yamaha, there are even several sounds with the same names. I managed to recognize some and these come from the MOTIF XS series, but not from the top of the range, but from the basic version which is the YAMAHA MX... there you find the same tones. Greetings
Yeah those sounds I believe are also the ones now in the PSR-E series. Thanks for sharing and for checking out the channel; feel free to subscribe
Man , thank you so much for these videos!. I need your help and advice since you had things in hand. I'll tell you a little about the story so I would like your advice on which one to orient myself. I play around doing live for private parties, weddings, bars/pubs. I do simple piano bar, ballad, pop, but also a lot of disco music and dance music of all shades. My preferences of interest on a keyboard are: the sound, excellent sounds that sound powerful, comfort to play, the intuitive interface controls fast because I play live, I need something more ready to use. So it must be a battle keyboard to go around and do everything with. Now, I want to tell you, I'm in difficulty oriented between Ek50 and Psr e473-e463. Which one do you recommend for everything explained above? Which is more right and battle for live things and to do everything with pop ballad arrangements, disco music and dance?. Let me know and thanks again for your work. Cheers
They're both great choices; I like the key action, true full size key width and user interface better on the EK-50 (It's SO easy and quick to use), the Yamaha has the advantage of the mic input and more (& better) piano and electric piano sounds, BUT the main piano sound on the EK-50 is a great "all-round" piano sound. The mic input means one less thing (mixer) to carry around with you if you're singing through your own amps etc. (if it's a house PA system, then maybe not a big deal) Hope that helps! Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
@@PianoTone 611 / 5.000 Thanks for your availability, everything is very clear. I only have a few more confirmations that I would like to understand... Do you recommend the ek50 as the most powerful and suitable battle keyboard to take live? In general, in terms of sound, is it more powerful? And then I can't find and understand the more detailed features and settings for modifying styles and retouching sounds, does the ek50 offer freedom and possibilities? Or is there little possibility of modifying the styles and sounds? . As for the various extra microphone inputs and so on, it's not a problem because there is always a complete PA system with a mixer
Thank you very very much!
Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
Thank you so much for the review! I'm thinking to upgrade from my E373 for the mic input and extra keys. The PSR series truly have great piano sounds (the only better sounding piano in the price range I can think of is the old Roland GO that has 128 polyphony but no arranger features of Yamaha)
Thanks so much, glad you enjoyed the review! The 425 is a spectacular keyboard. If you like Rolan, make sure you also check out my review on the new GO:Keys5 & 3: th-cam.com/video/HlNmh4u1qH0/w-d-xo.html Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe

Tony, will you have any follow up reviews of this Hammond organ? What do you use currently as your organ? I did not see your review of Yamaha YC61. I am a bit confused about your equipment preferences 😆Thank you
I'm confused about yours too lol ;) I've been super busy the last while so haven't had much time for reviews; I've been using the YC and the Numa Compact lately, but I should be getting back on reviews and new videos in the next month or so.
@ It is definitely justifiable that you are confused about my preferences (I am myself confused 😆). By the way, I was confused by the number of reviews of arranger keyboards and low end pianos you have posted recently. I finally decided that I do not need anything more than Hammond organ and pipe organ sounds. I have piano and synth VSTs (Pianoteq, VSL Synchron and a few more including Rhodes VST for piano and Arturia V Collection and Pigments for synth). I also have one pipe organ VST. I do not layer sounds and do not split the keyboard. I do not need scenes etc. Therefore, I returned CK61, cancelled the order of Roland Juno-D, gave up the idea of buying Studiologic Numa-X-Piano 73 and bought Hammond XK-1c (got a great price). I also rented Piaggero NP-15 to test its use as a MIDI controller (may get it) and returned to my Yamaha C7 practice. 😊
@@mfurman I review everything if possible, I have lots of subscribers that are interested in entry level keyboards. I was going to ask you how you liked the Studiologic but now I can ask about the XK-1C; did you buy that used or find a new one? (I'm jealous that's a great keyboard even if it came out a while back - that and the SK-1 have spectacular key action and great organ sounds, I still may settle on either an SK-1 for personal use by itself or the XK-1C in combination with the Numa Compact). Let me know what you think of the XK-1C!
@ I will Tony. I bought it new for C$2000. I will get it today. Thank you for your reviews. Your reviews of SKPro and Piaggero inspired and motivated me 😊👍
@@PianoTone Tony, I got XK-1c a day ago or so. I like the features very much. I very much like the sounds as well. My problem is with the action. I probably generally do not like Hammond waterfall actions. I do not like that they trigger the sound almost when I just touch a key. The action is very noisy Here are my tests To move (slightly) white C3-C6 keys - 62g, C7 - 50g, C2 - <50g To move (slightly) C4# key - ~62g 56g to get the sound on C2, ~68g to get the sound on C4, ~66g on C3, C5 and C6 and ~51g on C7 To move the white keys almost completely down - ~112g (C2 and C7 move completely down) The other problem is that when pushing the key slightly to get a sound there are sound “oscillations” (the sound is “bouncing”). In other words the sound triggering is a bit “flaky”. I experienced problems when playing! Keys are loud (clicking). Octave width: 16.5cm; white key length ~14.5cm (hard to measure). I may return it when I get an approval for it

1:05:44 Woah wait, that's how I've been doing Bluetooth MIDI connections on my Roland Aerophone: by going to the app's midi settings. It never occured to me to use the phone's bluetooth menu to connect it as a MIDI device like any other bluetooth device. Funny I never tried that first even though it seems more intuitive in hindsight.

Thank you You use the phrase regain access This suggests to me - a complete newcomer to Jamzone - that I will not be downloading their tracks. Instead access implies Streaming At some time in future if company folds we lose that “Lose” that “access” Do I have this right OR are tracks permanently downloaded ??
Last I checked, the tracks are still just "rented" not permanently downloaded. The premium and pro subscriptions allow offline access (so in that case the tracks are downloaded) but I'm assuming you would lose access to them if you cancel your subscription. Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe.
Another question if I may. I asked last week I think, between the Roland and Yamaha DGX-670. I didn't get either LOL. Love the Yamaha piano sound and I know I would end up not being happy with the Roland even though I like the outputs better on that. Then, you review for the P-515 came up. It is discontinued but the theP-525 is available and has the piano sounds I want. I can use my old Roland for organ on recordings but I really really REALLY love the piano sounds on the P-525. Have you played it, and think it does but Ill ask - does it have string sounds as well. I get more information from your videos than any others. I do use my gear to record for myself that I put on Spotify that only I hear LOL, but it all in creative fun. Thank you again. This is a price jump, but it seems like a the keys, and the sounds make is the right choice - if it has strings. LOL
I haven't tried the 525 yet, but it will be awesome just like the 515 is :) And it has lots of strings options in the main sound section, plus there are tons of extra XG sounds as well.
@PianoTone thank you again. Going to go play one today and I think that may be what I end up with. Love the piano sound and the outputs.
Thanks! Nice introduction.
Thanks!

Can we use this keyboard as a MIDI controller (a wired connection just like Yamaha keyboard)
Yes you can! Almost every keyboard nowadays has USB MIDI. Thanks for checking out the channel feel free to subscribe
Hi Tony, I recently purchased the DoReMidi UMH21. I'm trying to use it to connect my Cossain foldable 88 key digital piano as a USB Midi controller for my Yamaha PSR-510 which has the traditional 5 pin Midi in/Midi out. I have everything plugged in as you described in the video, but I can't seem to get the sounds on the Yamaha to trigger when I play the notes on the Cossain. I also tried with my Roland E-X50 which also has USB Midi, but even with the Roland, the sounds on the Yamaha didn't trigger. I'm curious as to what might be causing this issue? I noticed that the USB host port on the DoReMidi feels slightly loose, as if the USB cable isn't going in all the way. I've even tried several USB cables, with no success. Any ideas as to what might be stopping it from working? Thank you in advance for any feedback you can provide.
Could definitely be the port of it’s loose or something; could also be a configuration issue on MIDI channels between the keyboards - maybe the Yamaha is expecting channel 2 and the others are sending on channel 1 or something. Also, if your sending devices have USB ports that aren’t USB-B (like a printer cable) some of those cables like USB-C are “charge only”; not all send data. I had that problem with my Roland GO; I had to buy a USB-C cable that was “charge and synch”. Hope that helps! Thanks for checking out the channel feel free to subscribe
@@PianoTone Thank you so much Tony! I managed to get it working. In the case of the Roland, I had to turn it on first, then plug it into the DoReMidi. In the case of the Cossain, the usb C cable was definitely to blame, as the one I was trying to use was a charge only cable. I tried it with a charge and sync cable, and it did the trick. Thank you so much for your help! Keep up the awesome work!
@@SpicyTechyPodcast Awesome!
I wanted the triple pedals but didn’t want to pay the extra for the stand, so I went ahead and bought the triple pedal but just attached it to my Z stand with duct tape. But hey it works !
Duct tape is still one of the worlds greatest inventions :) Thanks for checking out the channel feel free to subscribe
Bought one last year and love it. I have had many digital pianos and some higher price points but for just pure enjoyment playing one this is the best by far. The accompanying tracts make this keyboard. I have played in bands but not so much anymore and get tired of just playing piano by myself out in my music room. This keyboard is like having a band playing with me anytime I want! And the quality of the accompaniments are amazing , seems impossible at this price , crazy to think this keyboard is only about $1000 retail. If someone just wants a keyboard to play at home for personal enjoyment I highly recommend this one. But it’s also cool if you want to jam with your buddy or two but don’t have a drummer or bass player this will do the job. Great instrument!

I have CK61 for short time now. The internal speakers are loud sufficiently for acoustic rehearsals etc., but you need increase gain of internal amplifier. The default setting is 0 dB, I use +9 dB and maximum is +24 dB. The instrument is excellent except of the keybed. It is too soft, narrow and becomes noisy in short time. Despite this I love my CK61.
I only had my CK61 for a couple months before trading it back in for a CK88 for the fully weighted keys so I never noticed any key noise issues. I did find the key action to be an ok compromise for live playing between piano and organ, but I agree I’d really prefer true full width keys instead of the narrower synth width. Hi, do you know if this mixer can be used to add volume to a Yamaha P225 connected to studio monitors? It seems to me the P225 has very low output level, so when I connect it to a pair of 36W studio monitors (Edifier MR3) via the line-outs, the result is disappointing because there's almost no volume increase compared to the internal speakers. Someone has recommended to me to use a mixer to remedy this, but I understand from your video that this mixer cannot amplify. Do you think this mixer might work anyway? Thanks!
It probably could, but you should check the setting for aux out volume first. Page 44 of the reference manual (not owners manual) from Yamaha's website: the volume for the aux output can be set to fixed or variable (adjusts along with the volume slider); that could be your issue. Hold down METRONOME+RHYTHM and press A5 for variable, or A#5 for fixed. Hope that helps! Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
@@PianoTone Hey, thanks a lot for your reply! Definitely subscribed! I've just tried switching from variable to fixed, but the default variable setting actually gives you more volume via the slider. I saw you also mentioned the Mackie Mix5. Would that one be a better bet for my purpose as it also has preamp, or would that only affect a mic? Thx again 🙏
@@genghizchen Any mixer with multiple channels (so you can use both your left and right line outs) should add volume; there is also a "sound boost" feature you can use to add volume
@@PianoTone Thanks! Interesting you mention the sound boost feature. I've tried that on day one and to my surprise it had no effect at all! I even returned my P225 and exchanged it for another one. When I did AB comparison between the two at the store, the other one seemed to have slightly (hardly noticeable) more pronounced trebles on the higher notes (or so I was told by the shop), but otherwise no audible change in volume. So I'm wondering if this feature actually works or if it just so happened to not work in the two P225 I've tried it on. Does it make a difference on your P225? My piano voices are also a noticeably weaker in volume than all other voices. Is this also your experience? (I should probably ask these questions in your P225 video instead.) Thx!
@@genghizchen I don't actually own a P-225 I just rented it for the review; I have owned a P-125 for a long time in the past though.

Hi! Thank you for the video. I have a question, also anyone here can help to answer. Which is the new version or best option of a keyboard with nice styles/rythms for gigs? I use and love a Roland GW8, I still think is the best one because is light, affordable, and the sounds are really good. But is getting old so need to find a replacement but I cannot. I bought the XPS10 but way too low quality of ryhtms.styles. plus it doesn't have variations and fills. thank you masters for your opinion.
The GO:Keys is a great choice, or if you want fully weighted keys then the Roland FP-E50 is a great option. The Yamaha PSR-EW425 is also a great choice, awesome speakers & live control knobs, but synth action and fewer chord detection modes. Between this and the Yamaha DGX-670. and not thinkin of the record features, which has a more realistic piano sound (which do you prefer), string and organ sound. Kind of torn between the two. I know it is subjective - which do you prefer overall and why if I may ask.
They’re both realistic it’s totally personal preference- Yamaha is brighter than Roland (my preference is Yamaha); Roland’s will be more low end - most people probably feel Roland’s is more realistic with the supernatural sound engine, but I prefer Yamaha. As far as EP goes I prefer the Yamaha P125/225 over the Roland, but the Roland over the dgx-not sure why, but I don’t like the Rhodes EP on the DGX as much as the P125. Hope that helps! @@PianoTone Thank you, it does immensely. The EP is a big one for me as well. Thank you, thank you. 🤗
I’m interested in audio tracks to produce demos as well as convey them to my laptop for playback
Hey! would you reccomend a go keys 5 or a yamaha psr ew 425 from personal preference?
That’s tough - I am planning a comparison video soon. In general: Roland: - better action - chord sequencer - easier access to registrations - more chord detection modes (including full keyboard) Yamaha: - WAY better speakers - 76 keys vs 61 - live control knobs - better piano/EP sounds (that’s personal preference though) Hope that helps! buying this soon. need this piano so bad
Awesome
This was my first midi controller purchase back in 2016. Perfect for what I was looking for, with both usb midi AND midi, and the keys felt nice compared to the m-a udio oxygen 25 I tried.
Yeah the keys on this really do feel better than any competitors in the price range. Thanks for checking out the channel feel free to subscribe
I'm returning to the piano after an absence of decades. The Yammy CK 88 crossed my radar. Thanks for an informative review, which helped me decide to go ahead with the purchase. I'll be adding a Novation 49SL MKII controller and a BOSS Kantana 60 bass amp to the (home) setup.
Thanks so much glad the review was helpful! Sounds like an awesome setup you have planned. The CK88 is an amazing instrument. Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
