Welcome to my youtube channel! This channel and my website are all about the fun journey of learning piano and a little bit about music. You'll find down to earth reviews of products and services I actually own or have tested; everything from keyboard, digital pianos, mixers, mics & other music gadgets, but most importantly reviews and information on some of the learning resources (online courses, apps etc) that got me playing popular songs on the piano in just over a month!
Roland GO:Keys Styles Demo
Roland GO:Keys Styles Demo! In this video, I'm demonstrating ALL 203 styles on the new Roland GO:Keys (3 & 5). I'm only demonstrating a few seconds of variations 2 & 3 to keep the video from being TOO long.

You can import PDFs if you have sheet music elsewhere, but the sources listed in the app are the only online sources it can pull from. Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
I came back to Liano after trying a few MIDI controllers and getting not what I wanted (no organ friendly MIDI keyboard on the market - most if not all MIDI controllers have software for music production and tons of synth sounds but action is either synth or hammer). Liano may not be the greatest for playing piano but is not bad and its action is relatively similar to the action of CK61 that I have and like very much. By the way, listening to your preferences Tony, I am wondering if you looked at Roland Juno-D (61 or 73) as an option for your band playing. Cheers, Michael
To be honest I've never "dived into the synth pool" yet; I don't really know anything about synthesizers, probably will take the leap one day. I'm loving the Yamaha YC-61 and the Roland A-49 is by far the best key action MIDI controller I've ever played.
@ Unfortunately for some strange reasons, Roland does not have a 61 key MIDI controller and its 88 key controller (that I had in the past) uses PHA-4 action. I actually prefer semi weighted action these days. Playing real piano is different than and hammer fully weighted digital piano action ever gave me.
Does Cubase on laptop work? Does it also send back audio to the piano speakers?
I don't have a copy of Cubase so I can't test that for sure. But if you used a cabled connection (which I would recommend anyways to avoid lag) then it will work great and send audio back through the USB cable since there is a built in audio interface. Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
@PianoTone thanks alot. Have you used any software with laptop?
Great video. Very complete. I have a question: is the sound of the MTWII engine (M-Solo and XK-4) much better or is it the same as the MTWI engine of the SK Pro? What do you think about it? Thanks.
Absolutely wonderful information. Cannot thank you enough for showing the facilities of this keyboard in such a comprehensive way. Cannot wait to try out your suggestions and look forward to your future guidance.

Hi Tony. Thanks for the video. Is there a way to use both a MIC input and a Roland SPD ONE percussion foot pad with the CK88? Thanks!
Thank you very much, great video! I just purchased a P-S500 and when I try to use my music library it tells me "this data cannot be selected." Am I missing something? Do I have to buy something? How do I resolve this?
Casio still can't get rid of that electronic-sounding high frequency twang on their piano voice, that makes it sound cheap
Piano voices are super personal, everyone likes something different - I usually prefer Yamaha over Casio or Roland, but there’s tons of people with the opposite opinion lol which is all good. Thanks for checking out the channel feel free to subscribe
@@PianoTone I definitely agree piano tones are subjective, but I also think there is an element of objective quality to everything. You probably wouldn't be saying that the Meike piano sound is a fully-fledged choice deserving to be compared with Yamaha, Korg or Roland :D Casio has definitely made good progress, but they're still only as good as they feel they need to be for the price point
Thank you very much for this usefull information.

The S1 pro sounds good but I noticed that bass heavy music on the S1 pro tends to produce a lot of port noise at higher volumes due to the straight non flared design of the port.

Wo kann ich das Sustain Pedal Mat in Deutschland kaufen? Die einzige Möglichkeit war direkt beim Hersteller über Paypal, aber mit Liefergebühren von 28€. Gibt es das irgendwo auch noch günstiger?
Thank you for your in-depth analysis. I purchased the Go:Keys 5 because of the chord sequencer. I began to program whole songs into it. However, I couldn’t find a way to stop the accompaniment and/or drum in the middle of a sequence automatically (i.e. programmed into the chord sequence) for a bar or two. Are you aware of a way to do that?
Will that play 60s combo stuff, like Farfisa or Vox or Yamaha ?
There are tons of voices - they never name the organs “Hammond”, “vox” etc (I’m assuming for licensing); im sure there are Vox voices in there (there might be farfisa - I’m not familiar enough with farfisa to recognize it for sure). Thanks for checking out the channel feel free to subscribe
@@PianoTone I think it's called the F wave. I gotta know for sure, so I'm getting the Yamaha YC for that exact reason. I'm so tired of searching. Thanks for responding 👍
@@PianoTone I'm looking at the Tone List and it says Vox Pad under Organ settings at 29 . I just wonder, I'll have to take a trip to Guitar Center to find out, I guess.
Hmm . . . I don't see any voices in the organ section named Vox; there are a bunch of "Vox" in the synth section, but I just tried those out and those are NOT organs (I think they may be vocoders). There are some organs in the organ section that sound "vox'y" to me (they could be farfisas too, like I said I'm really only familiar with hammond). Some examples that sound like vox to me include: 96 Years (211), Glory Us Rock (212), 60s organ (109/110). And there are ton more organs in there. I'm not sure what "vox pad" you're referring to, I searched the tone list for that and couldn't see anything. Hope that helps!
@@PianoTone Thanks, I found the sound list at Roland but it was for the Gokeys 3 , but yeh, that would be 96 years' or 60s organ on the version 5 probably.
Good intro, many thanks. I had hoped you would have discussed the other sounds. For example, is it possible to modify the Jazz/Hammond organ sounds
Thanks a lot! The app doesn't add any sounds, and doesn't give you the ability to modify any of the sounds either. It does give you a nice graphic interface for doing all the things/settings you could already do with the piano's key combinations though (layering, splitting with bass, modifying reverb types and levels, relative volumes etc) but that applies to all of the sounds. Hope that helps! Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe

Hi Tony - thanks for this video and your previous one covering the features of this keyboard. Both are very useful as I’m still thinking about which of the two models I might get. Apologies if you’ve already covered this, but could you clarify if the GO 3 or 5 have any built in drum kits? If so - how many are there, how good / realistic are they etc? Thanks.
Both the 3 & 5 have 74 built in drum kits; I can't offer an opinion on them since I haven't used them at all though, sorry! Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe

LOL yeah I know :) I was originally doing this video with Norwegian Wood then switched at the last minute and misspoke. Thanks for checking out the channel.
This bank business si so confusing. I would love to have a way to save the current bank faster, just one or two presses.

thanks a lot for this extensive review, it's really informative as always I've got a question about the speakers if you care to answer (important criteria for me) : would you say they sound equal or worse than the EW425 ones for instance ? not in power but the quality of the sound itself, does it sound natural nonetheless (at least for the pianos) ? Are the low notes decent ? And aren't the highs too bright ?
Thanks so much! And the speakers on the GO:Keys 5 are ok, but they pale in comparison to the EW425; those are easily the best portable keyboard speakers I've ever encountered. It's not just the added power, Yamaha just makes awesome speakers; but the power does help even if it's not being used - bigger speakers even turned low can handle bass and low end better (in my opinion). Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
Hi, thanks for the video! So if i use a piano app to practice like simplypiano, the app will be able to follow along with the keyboard even if i use headphones and can only hear the piano through the headphones?
The app will follow what you are playing as long as you are connected to the app's from your keyboard's USB port. To hear both through your headphones, you need to just follow one the options I outline in the video. Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe.
Hello Tony... Thank you very much for your great videos. I bought a Yamaha PSR-EW425 keyboard due to your recommendation, and I am thrilled with it. I ended up liking SongPro better than the other programs as I sing and play keyboard. Starting about a year or so ago, all my backing tracks disappeared. It says, "File not Found." I have been all over the internet trying to find a solution and have written to the app developer several times with no luck. A couple of musicians online with the same complaint think that everytime the IPad updates, the files are lost. This makes no sense because musicians can't risk showing up to a job and having their entire library disappear. I have my SongPro installed on my Ipad Pro. One musician stated that he had switched to a Samsung tablet and that resolved his problem. Do you think that I really have to spend a lot of money on a Samsung tablet, or is there possibly another solution? Thanks much!
Hi there! Glad you like your EW425 (it is an awesome keyboard). And I use SongBook Pro daily and it is a great app, but every time there's an update it LOOKS like your backing tracks have disappeared. They haven't, it's just the link between the app and the file is somehow lost. All you have to do is (from within SongBook Pro) delete the link and reset it. So long press the PLAY button on a song, and the little window pops up, click the trash can to delete the "link" and then just click the PLAY button again to re-establish the link. I've been meaning to reach out to SBP and ask about this for awhile - I will and if there's any other solution I'll update this comment. As far as the Samsung thing, maybe this issue is only on the iOS version (I use an old iPad). Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
Useful video, thanks. FYI Roland have updated the firmware
That's good to know thanks for sharing. And thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
Any significant updates?
@@cinepost the midi renaming bug is fixed; the new features may be useful to some
Hi Tony. Thanks for all of the great reviews. I'm curious which keybed you find most satisfying for a combination of acoustic pianos, electric pianos, and organ: Numa Compact, Yamaha CK61, or Korg Liano. I'd probably lean towards the Numa or Yamaha since drawbars and expression pedal inputs are included unless the Liano keys are significantly better. Looking for a lightweight board for local house jams where I don't want to pack/unpack my YC73.
Since you included organ in there; definitely the Numa's action is the best all round. It actually IS semi-weighted (Fatar) and as far as I know they have made organ actions for Hammond, Nord & their own discontinued Numa Organ as well. The CK's action is fine, but the Numa felt super similar to action on my Hammond SK Pro. But it's still easy to get used to playing piano and EP on as well. I do think the organ sounds on the CK are a bit better, but they're good on the Numa too, and they both have organ controls like you said. Hope that helps!
@ thanks!
VERY INFORMATIVE VIDEO TY QUESTION WHAT APP WERE YOU USING TO PLAY ALONG WITH ON YOUR TABLET? TY
That waas Jamzone. Did a review here: th-cam.com/video/tU9sGJzdcB0/w-d-xo.html Great app but FYI the pricing model has changed since I did the review; you no longer "buy" tracks for life, it's now a subscription model. Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
Thanks for another excellent review, Tony! I’d like to ask if you ever had the opportunity to try the Yamaha P-S500, as it seems to share many of the features from your much praised and recommended DGX-670, the major difference being in the user interfaces. Both models also happen to share compatibility with this stand and triple pedal. I’m considering pulling the trigger on the P-S500 for $899 brand new, as it seems to have a strong set of features and I do like its slick design. However, I thought it could be a good idea to ask your evaluation about such a deal, since I find your product analysis very trustworthy and valuable. Thanks in advance!
I've never seen one, I don't think it was a commercial success for Yamaha; when it was first released it was insanely (in my opinion) priced - it was more than twice the cost of a DGX-670 which made no sense to me, and I thought the "falling lights" / synthesia light up keys style feature was gimmicky. No stores where I lived ever brought them in so I never saw one. But it sounds like the price has dropped a bunch so maybe it is a good choice but to be honest I can't really offer a fair opinion since I've never even seen one. My gut reaction (since I know the DGX would be to go that wat instead), but again; probably not fair to say since I haven't seen the P-S500. Hope that helps! Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe if you haven't already :)
I've tried to record a Yamaha ck88 with a recording app, Garage Band, by connecting it to an iPad Pro6 (m2) cable, but it doesn't record, only external sounds are recorded You can't replace the cable I'd appreciate it if you could tell me how to do it
The CK88 has an audio interface built into the USB port, so both MIDI and audio will be sent to the app through a USB connection. What you record at the app side depends what kind of track you are recording - if you choose a midi track you will get midi if you choose an audio track you will get audio. Thanks for checking out the channel feel free to subscribe
Not big differences for those that already own the p125. Do u think that worth the change?
If you have and like a P-125 and there's nothing wrong with it i would say no, unless you REALLY want the CFX Grand piano sound and the BlueTooth audio; beyond that . . . you're probably good with the 125 to be honest (unless you have a P-125a which doesn't have the audio interface in which case I would say yes upgrade) Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe.
I think that the biggest problem (at least for me) was that M-Solo cannot work with a pedal board or the second keyboard (let’s say a 61 key MIDI keyboard that would use M-Solo’s very good sound engine and form a two manual organ setup with M-Solo). Michael
Yeah it's really just meant to be an add-on to a digital piano to give you the great organ sounds and functionality
Thank you so much jajajaj no podía con eso y fue tan sencillo

Thank you for your great tutorial videos. I would ask you if there's somekind an option to see lyrics on the App triggered by a registration memory number relationed with that same song. Thanks in advance for the help.
I don’t think the app can receive any kind of input from a keyboard like that. Thanks for checking out the channel feel free to subscribe
@@PianoTone Hi. Thank you for your repply. As I suspected, that software doesn't such options.
This is a Windows bug associated with the drivers that control your Mid/USB that doesn't allow sharing of midi data between multiple apps so frustrating this hasn't been fixed
I agree - loopMidi does help alleviate it though. Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
Hi ! Is it possible to connect two midi keyboards to the CK ( actually one is a pedal board), so it would be two manuals and one pedal board ? Thnx!
The CK only has 1 MIDI in, but with a device like the DOREMIDI USB Host box you might be able to: th-cam.com/video/tCPGI17cly8/w-d-xo.html It has a USB MIDI in as well as a 5 pin MIDI in; and the USB MIDI in can have a hub connected to combine multiple MIDI sources. How that would manifest itself in the CK I can't guarantee; I would THINK/HOPE that the 5 pin MIDI in and USB could be routed in the to 2 different sound backs (B&C etc) but I honestly can't say for sure. Hope that helps! Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
Thank you for all videos you have done! I am trying to find out how to control the sound of some layered voices. For example I recorded violins on Channel 3 and want to lower the sound of it and then save it to the sub.

Hi Tony, like you I also can't wait for you to get your hands on a Casio CT-S1 76 and do a review of it. I had a Roland Go-Piano 61 but I changed to a Casio CT-S1, 61 key version, after watching your review of the Casio. I found the Casio much nicer to play than the Roland, and I'm very happy with the sound too. I have a Yamaha DGX 670 at home, but I needed a more portable piano when I was asked to play hymns for a small church group who meet at a small, rented venue, and that's when I bought the Roland. Because of the size of the venue I was able to use the Roland, and then the Casio without any amplification, but just recently the group have moved to a new, larger venue, and I'm now thinking of changing to the new Casio CT-S1 76 because of it's more powerful speakers. The problem is I've just watched your review of the Korg Lanio, and now I'm thinking the Korg may be the best option. I think your preference would be the Korg, but I guess I'll just have to wait for your review of the 76 key Casio and then decide. Thanks for again the great reviews Tony.
I’m super curious about those speakers too; my local stores aren’t stocking them yet but if they do I’ll rent one for sure. So I can’t say for sure about these speakers vs the Liano, but I will definitely prefer the action on the Liano. Thanks for checking out the channel feel free to subscribe
@@PianoTone I know you can't compare speakers until you've tried the new 76 key Casio, but I'm really interested to know how you compare the acoustic piano sound of the Liano with that of the 61 key Casio, as presumably it will be the same on the 76 key model? That's something I meant to ask you in my previous comment! Thanks Tony.
Thanks -- great review. Appreciate it.

I don't think they're officially "noise cancelling" but they do cover your ears and would reduce outside noise. Make sure you also check out the "Pro" line (which is WAY better especially for music production); I've been using Pro 50's for a year now they are awesome: th-cam.com/video/KC4raa0RX2Y/w-d-xo.html Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
@PianoTone brought them Amazon thanks
Like it. I'll probably get one.
It's a great idea. Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
Yamaha should fight back. Their accompaniments in their PSRE are straight up garbage compared to this. They must trickle down the already old PSRS/Tyros to PSRE in the upcoming E483.
It will be interesting to see what Yamaha does with their new versions. I really want to see them add chord fingering modes (full keyboard detection especially); they've been lagging behind with only 2 for way too long. The E383 didn't change much in that area, so not sure we'll see a change with the E483 but I guess we wait and see. Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
Wow! Well done. You are truly an asset to the TH-cam Piano enthusiast community! Thank you as I listen to the full video.
Thanks so much (again!) for supporting the channel!
@@PianoTone would be a good video to show the Blues Style Pack you pick up from Roland cloud. How much are the style packs?
thank you for your useful videos, a question, I can not drive my Roland go key 5 with my large keyboard Studiologic (no problem with my Yamaha CK61), the USBC connector seems dedicated to this... have you an answer, thanks or default you know or ask Roland
As far as I know, the USB-C only sends MIDI out, it does not accept incoming MIDI so it could only be used to control another keyboard, not BE controlled by another keyboard. The CK61 has a proper 5 pin MIDI in port so it works perfect. Thanks for checking out the channel, feel free to subscribe
Thank you very much for your quick response, it’s a shame for the midi in, but I will keep both of them which are very good and different! Of course I subscribe to your channel....
Is there a visual indicator to tell the difference between p125 and p125 ?
It will either say either P-125 or P-125a on the top panel of the keyboard. Thanks for checking out the channel feel free to subscribe
Another good video Tony. I do find these Roland styles well-done and “interesting” (ok, maybe more “modern”). But I’m also an old guy who finds non-descriptive names annoying. I dumped a very powerful Korg Krome workstation with 1000+ patterns and presets because I got tired of searching and scrolling through and testing “green chicken 32” and “Friendly Venus Clouds” when I’m just trying to find a nice Latin beat! 😂
Thanks so much! And I'm LOL'ing at "Green Chicken 32" . . . .
