- WHO IS THIS GAME FOR?
I react to the latest Dragon Age: The Veilguard gameplay trailer, which was a huge letdown. With high hopes for this next installment, the trailer left me questioning the future of the game and Bioware itself. Can Dragon Age: The Veilguard still be good despite this disappointing preview? What does this mean for Bioware if the game fails to meet expectations?

What did YOU think of Dragon Age: The Veilguard?
I don't think the franchise is "evolving." I think Bioware is just now made up of developers who had nothing to do with the games their company used to make. Those older developers have moved on. It's best to think of Bioware as just an IP holder, one of which is Jade Empire and they'll probably never do anything with that franchise again because I'd bet most their developers never even heard of it. Best case scenario: EA gives those franchises to better dev's or just sells them outright.
I'm still speechless as a dragon age fan I have no idea what to say I'm just shocked
Expected this.
What makes the combat trailer worse is that some pointed out the campions were doing no damage
Neither were the enemies... not even the boss...
What made inquisition good is 1.) tactical pause 2.) evade move entire force back for a counter 3.) pull of the abyss to put all enemies together in one circle 4.) crowd control abilities 5.) knock back attacks
Inquisition was good?
It looks like they created ME Andromeda in Dragon Age instead of a great Dragon Age.
Not only that they also said that the Dragon Age keep isn't going to carry over to this game in an interview, so that means that none of our choices throughout any of the games are going to matter. one of the coolest features to this game series and they're basically throwing it out the window.
I’m pretty sure I’m that same interview (if ur talking abt the discord Q n A) they said u get to choose what happens in game through tarot cards so this game can be played offline without NEEDING he dragon age keep. Eh I don’t mind as long as the major choices carry over
Rip spelling on my phone 😭😭 y can’t I edit comments
Played Dragon Age Inquisition but didn't finish it. For me personally Dragon Age was all about Story and the strategic combat.
Didn't like the combat in inquisition and the story didn't keep me. Had hopes they would go back to Dragon Age Origin, but my wish didn't come true.
I think they dropped the ball big time considering the success of Baldur's Gate 3. Many fans were hoping Dragon Age would come out and somewhat compete with Baldur's Gate.... instead it looks to be competing with Suicide Squad...
@@RexSterlingLiveKind of amusing as dragon age started as a "dark baldur's gate" and BG3 is more dragon age than ever, and dragon age is fantasy setting masseffect ?
Youre the only other person who said it looks like an Arkham game instead of a Dragon Age.
The tone is so off, but I dont think we can get games like Dragon Age Origins from major companies anymore; their committees want a non gamer audience.
That comparison was kind of vague and I should have explained it better. After Baldur’s Gate 3, I hoped the team working on Dragon Age would feel confident returning to the roots of the series… but it doesn’t feel that way to me at all 😔
Yeah, most people describe it as Fortnight.
It really does have the Arkham combat system. There's an ME companion command system on the side, but the basic info, HUD, and function is generic hero combat. "Halo" infographic around the characters head to warn of incoming melee attack. Ammo and manually aimed (Something that was not present in any other DA game) ranged attack with a limited supply (also never before used in DA, even in Origins; the last time we had an ammo system). Pick a target, hit attack, and if in range, a lunge or regular slash will occur.
Also no game company will make an Origins system anymore. The original Origins forced the team to make the tutorial 6 times, and negatively impacted the Circle tower.
@@RexSterlingLive Returning to the roots is never going to happen because this isn't about a Blight anymore which is 70% of why that game was so dark - the demonic possessions and amount of killing you were allowed were the rest of it.
Inquisition is the Better direction for the game series because outside of a blight you have an expansive world with so much going on which is why people say the fanbase is divided between "Dragon Age Fans" and "Origins Only Fans" and if you only like origins thats fine but the rest of us loved what they gave us in inquisition and shitting on it when it's what put this Franchise on the map to begin with is a disservice.
Dragon age flew under the radar until that game of the year award and then everyone was buying all the previous games and being introduced to this series.
Origins needs a remaster or remake at this point because it has good writing behind bad animations and graphics compared to today's standards.
I will agree that BG3 felt more like a updated origins tho.
1, You get to make Rook & Inquisitor
2, This last fight Leads to you personally letting 2 Badguys out that along with Solas means worst trouble.
3, Your Caught in the Fade
4, I pray to God you Loved Cyberpunk 2077 (Yes if you didn't you may want to go WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!) because since you let though 2 Badguys out your working with Solas to stop them (Really there a weird thing with this because either you walk up to Solas and get your orders or 2 You have Solas in your Head) I did say I hope you liked Cyberpunk 2077.
5, Yes when they got serious on Developing this Game Cyberpunk 2077 took off and yes you could wish they waited for BG3 to take off.
So the Picture is like this Dragon Age, Mass Effect, Cyberpunk 2077 but the Final say on Solas is still your call. They did say you could still kill him if you want.
I get where this may sound like a Reason to go Nope but Bioware old Developers are gone.
I mean we’ve been knew since gameplay leaks that the gameplay was going for more of that modern rpg which is more popular now. A lot of people were hoping for a bg3 type of dragon age but that simply isn’t their style. If u look at each dragon age game the combat was slowly evolving to this point. Each game is simply a product of its time
Is it more popular or do developers refuse to do anything else...
I have to ask, where are the desire demons?
THEY BETTER BE 1) FULLY CLOTHED 2) KAREN HAIRCUT 3) MODERN AUDIENCES JAWLINE OR I'M OUT
Bro she wont even have tits gonna look like ellie from tlou2 built like a teenage boy and will take an hour of the mission explaining to you why objectifying women is wrong.
The original dragon age is a classic, the 2nd one to me was too short, and third one was okay not the best but still playable. This a disaster that I knew was doomed when I watched this but everything is just bad and I think maybe one day I might try it. I’ll have to be desperate but it’s no I have to play it.😂
It'll be on ps plus for free shortly before or after biowares imminent closure.
It looks like a GenZ teenagers mobile game now 😂
I'm guessing you can't rename your character either - if Rook is short for 'Rookie' (as opposed to being bird related for some story reason) then that is the lamest writing ever & doesn't bode well for the writing in the game itself
the Inquisitor is in this game they said. I don't know if you get to import your own or you design him or her when you start the game, just like you did with Hawke in the last game.
They answered in the developer discord Q&A that u customize ur Rook and inquisitor at the start (but it might change who knows)
Holy shit Rex. Are we going to see some crpg’s when you finish up with final fantasy?
Yeah Veilguard looks balls. The old guard of BioWare are long gone. You should see the Gendermancer they have in charge of this bullshit.
"Gendermancer" Lol thats a good one.
@@Shadow666_ that's what the lead developer called themselves on twitter before EA or Bioware made them take it down.

there is a acticle on game informer about dragon age the veilguard
Feels like bioware was like how do we improve dragon age oh i know lets just make it mass effect. Also good to see world class writing nothing like 10 years of work and a whole organization solas made foiled by pushing over one statue 😂
AN ELVEN GOD FOILED BY A LVL 1 CHARACTER - WE'RE IN FOR AN S-TIER NARRATIVE FOR SURE
Mass effect but bad...also who actually cares what solas is doing?
I've consumed anything Dragon Age they ever released even got the dang cookbooks. read every codex, theory crafted for years and this trailer has poked a hole and deflated any hope I had this game would be anything other than mid. no way this thing can deliver on anything they set up satisfyingly. the priorities are in all the wrong places. The game may be better we really don't know much but this is what the chose to show and if they think this is the biggest selling points does not bode well for what they chose to keep a mystery. catering to modern politics by making sure your cast of characters and your staff check boxes instead of hiring talented people and making everyone bangable to everyone and the casual modern audiences who want to turn off their brain going through an on rails experience will ruin this game and likely this studio. If this game does not deliver I cant see BioWare making it to the next mass effect release.
You read the cookbooks huh? Will how does the reveal taste🤣...Seriously though this game is gonna fail.
Love you rex W video😎👍🏽❤️😃
everything after origins is just wearing the dragon age skin suit.
Da2 had issues but it was still dragon age in spirit.
I get a feeling Dragon Age "4" started as a live-service game and then shifted to an AAA single-player game after the failure of Anthem. It was presented as a hero shooter like Overwatch together with similar graphic style and simplistic but flashy combat. Mix that in with all the DEI, woke, entitlement, and narcissistic self-righteous diversity virtue signaling... the game is a hard pass for me. Even a slight hint of DEI or Sweet Baby involvement is enough to make me step away from a game nowadays. I still enjoy and play the old games tho.
It's called Sweet Baby Inc , EA and Bioware hasn't been Bioware in almost 15 years.
Yup...
DA veilguard gameplay is shit so far
it doesn't look like a bad game but it doesn't feel like a dragon age game to me, and after baldurs gate 3 it is disappointing .
I think that's very fair - I really hope it does well on release!
I'm with Rex. Veilguard doesn't feel like a Dragon Age game. My hype for the game really really vanished after characters reveal trailer and the gameplay reveal didn't help much. Not the combat, but looking at the vibe, tones, dialogue...it's not DA.
Hussss
This just looks awful. Twenty minutes of "gameplay" of which 15 minutes is cutscenes and some of the remaining 5 minutes is just pushing forward. This looks shit.
Woke age is coming ...No,thanks but I think...no actually,I'm sure I'll pass.
Lol this game was woke from the beginning.
Did you fall asleep while playing all 3 games or smth? They were woke since origins
@@najwasabilayusuf1611But the “woke” wasn’t the focus. The setting, story and characters were the focus and there just happened to be woke elements.
This game appears to be the opposite. The focus is on the wokeness and they just happened to write a story.
@najwasabilayusuf1611 No they werent. "Woke" isnt having a gay character and a woman in your game despite what some youtubers say.
Woke is propaganda that only shows one side of an argument to suit a leftist agenda.
that includes but is not limited to:
censorship of female nudity,
replacing male characters with females with no reason or buildup
making females ugly to spite straight men
randomly calling their audience bigots
Breaking the fourth wall to talk about modern day politics in a fantasy setting...bonus points if make a trump stand in.
And...nuetered jokes and situations to avoid offending anyone.
Dragon age Og was a nuanced story with characters with different beliefs and no preaching. It was Dark and didnt shy away from dark situations. There were sexy females which is a sin in woke games.
@@Dragon_Lair Exactly my thought, woke wasn't the focus of gaming... but now I fear that the situation will get even worse.
looks like he didn't look at the information they gave out, just the trailers.
Dude. They’re in Tevinter. The mages there are super pompous and arrogant. You’re being waaay too nitpicky. They’re getting across her personality, and doing it well. Varrick has always been laze fare, so why you’re looking for this serious, death around the corner vibe from people that aren’t that way is weird to me. You said you’re going into it negatively, but you can also have an open mind at the same time. It’s also super unfair to compare any game to Baldur’s Gate.
Why is it unfair to compare to BG3? Bioware literally made BG1 and BG2.
It is valid to compare this game to BG3. Not only did BioWare make BG1 and 2, it’s also the exact same genre of game.
It is natural to compare.
Take away the Dragon Age name and it’s a mid-tier action game.
I mean you're kinda right Dragon age definitly isnt comparable to bg3...not anymore.
One game was made with artistic intent, the other made by commitee
One game is an RPG, the other is a disney ride
One game succeded and the other will fail.
See? Nothing to compare.
@@BittermanAndy even bg1 and bg2 are super different games than bg3. At least they’re comparable in the sense that it’s the same series. It’s unfair to compare dragon age in that sense, regardless of BioWare, because they’re not meant to be the same series or game. Bg3 is an outlier. To compare any game to it is unfair in the sense that bg3 was exactly what it was intended to be and it was hugely successful. You can compare SOME things that Larian did that catered to the player, but story, play style, voice acting, immersion.. all that belongs to bg3. No one else. So in the early 90’s there was a supermodel named Cindy Crawford. She was the big thing of that time. Sure more models started doing their hair like her, and using some of her fashion, but to compare every other model to her is to discredit what makes those models unique in their own right. Just because something works doesn’t mean that every subsequent thing must be just like that.
@@Dragon_Lair but not the exact game or series.

there was a description what was Tevinter like. it's not that space station
It’s Tevinter. Let’s practice blood magic and have slaves since the economy there is dependent on slaves.
@@marya5813 so if I live in New York City that means that my entire world is time square? What about Central Park? You’re seeing one tiny little part of tevinter that seems to be pretty ancient based on the ruins. I highly doubt it’s in the city proper, which is what that description was based on.
@@bartmongiello you may like whatever you want
They are changing the lore whenever they want
The blood magic can be described as a mindful useful way to boost abilities (to boost crops, for example).
Or as a dark crime for the "typical evil" as a lazy writing
To me and in my opinion (and some of my friends that liked dao) it's a stupidity of writers to not use morally grey questions
If whole Tevinter would be arrogant they plainly crumbled as a state. Yet, they exist as an ancient magic state.
Yes, Fenris was an exceptional and (somewhat cruel physically) experiment of his master, but he was unique
I hope they will not do a plain trope with the EvILll👿 empire
