Dragon Age 2 did not come out in 2012. It came out in March 2011, just 16 months after Dragon Age: Origins, which is pretty crazy to think about and explains why the scope was so scaled back and why it takes place in one city.

    • @piotrkarp9562
      @piotrkarp9562 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +20

Nah, they wanted to make this in one city from the beginning. If DA:O wanted to brong back adventure vibes of BG1 than DA2 wanted to recreate Amn from BG2. I remember when someone asked them "why one city and how this suppose to work" question they bring back BG2 argument.

One thing that got me hooked were the dragon age books. Reading about Maric and Logaihn and realizing Logaihn isn’t just a power hungry evil person. He thought the king was giving Ferelden back to Orlais. He didn’t believe in the blight threat and thought Orlais was more dangerous. The complexity of each character from the expanded dragon age lore. Like reading a book with Duncan as the main character. Amazing.

Occasionally I'll run into people saying "Loghain wasn't actually evil" or even "Loghain did nothing wrong!", and I'll wonder if they maybe have a point.

Completely agree with DA2. When I first played the games back in 2015 I remember thinking "I just need to play this, for the lore" and I remember gritting my teeth :D And what I found was a fun, intimate political drama with excellent characters and one hell of an ending. Matty, if you're going to play a full playthrough of DA:O, including Awakening... I implore you to play as a Dual Wield Warrior, with at least 36 points in Dex so you can DW full size weapons... There are a couple of extremely powerful longswords (Vigilance and Dumat's Spine) you can get your hands on in Awakening and I tend to average doing between 40-50% of all party damage across the playthrough, especially in the base game. I do enough DPS to draw the aggro and I'm tanky enough to handle it.
My typical party is myself, Leliana, Morrigan and Alistair to be the tank protecting Morrigan and Leliana while I'm tearing through the enemy ranks in a frontal assault. In Awakening my party is usually Justice, Nathaniel (specced for archery) and Anders. Only Nathaniel comes close to rivalling me in damage.
I didn't mention the various powerful longswords that can be obtained in the base game, as I know you're well aware of those, being a veteran.

I have watched some gameplay videos and lore videos about them though. But with Dragon Age Veilguard coming out soon maybe they'll take advantage of the renewed hype for the series and make a legendary edition for them like they did with the Mass Effect trilogy. My understanding is that a remaster collection - ala ME: Legendary Edition - is very difficult due to the fact that different engines were used for each game (Eclipse, Lycium, and Frostbite respectively). By contrast, every game in the ME trilogy all used a version of Unreal, making the modernization process much more streamlined and efficient.

The Shadows of Revan expac is essentially KotOR 4, then the eternal Empire stuff is basically KotOR 5/6. The story is definitely told to completion. My first introduction to the franchise was Inquisition and I loved it. I didn’t quite understand the lore because it was the third installment of the franchise, but I loved it nonetheless. What I was interested in the most was the religion aspect of the game, I’m not religious myself, but it intrigued me. When I first played Orgins, it was amazing. The many decisions that can be made, the characters you can choose to be in your party. I personally like to have two melee and two range with one at least being a mage. Finishing Origins filled me with excitement because of the journey that came along with the beginning of it but also a bit of sadness because I won’t experience that for the first time again. Coming to DA2, I’m currently playing it, and I do love the story. I also like in the DA franchise that having certain characters for a specific dialogue run will change what occurs. I notice it more in DA2, not sure if it was in Origins. I do like DA2’s combat more than Origins, it’s more fluid and less clunky, but that’s to be expected with a newer game. I think what the franchise does which I love is that all of your choices can carryover to the next one. It creates a connection to the franchise because everyone has their own story, their own world, and I think that’s amazing.

Dragon Age: Origins and its expansion Awakening were amazing, I would love to have a remake with updated graphics someday. It doesn't even bother me that your character is silent and it's definitely the dragon age game I've replayed the most and in my top 2. From the characters, to the scary enemies and levels (looking at you Fade - Lost in Dreams and Deeproads quests), soundtrack, companion banter, narrative quality and choices, and the ending credits song by 30 Seconds to Mars (lmao). There are very few times where I've cried after completing a game but it was such an emotional journey and story. Yes the combat left much to desired, but it was out weighed by everything else. It's been fifteen years and I'll still never forget, "Have you ever licked a lamp-post in winter?" 😂💀

DA2 is not only sets up some very important events that play a role games after it came out but they were also able to make such a intimate story. I cried when DAO finished because I sad that the story was finish but I cried in DA2 because of the tragedy that you played with Hawke. Hawke loses so much along the way and gets keeps fighting.
Also for me DA2 combat is so much fun, I loved DAO but DA2 was for me personally is so much fun as it fast paced but you still have to be smart about how you address situations.
Like you said that in the video, the Dragon Age series would really do well with a Legendary treatment because while yes the games have individual stories they all correlate and make such a deep story. Streamlining the ability to play all the games would really be a game changer for both newer players and old time player.

It's always refreshing seeing someone NOT hate on this franchise. I think a lot of people don't want to flat out say that certain people looking for any small reason to label games as "woke" or made for sjw's have really weighed Dragon Age down despite the fact that Bioware was "woke" long before DAI. Most forget that DAI released right after Gamer Gate blew up, and while it's not a perfect game, politics have really made it seem like it's a far worse game than it deserves to be labeled, especially because any perceived leftist rhetoric is avoidable. We don't all have to agree on these issues, but I wish the kneejerk reaction to cancel anything that doesn't fit our views would subside just a bit... on both extremes.
I'm a leftist, but I still played Hogwarts Legacy, I wish there was more leniency on my "side", but also from the other direction. It also doesn't help that ragebait is far more profitable than just letting people enjoy games for what they are, or letting some of them exist as "meh" games without killing franchises or studios.

My biggest issue with Da2 and DaI, is that you don't need to be there. In both of these games, the major plot twisting event that leads to the end, is taken from you and your group. That decision is made for you. Which tells me my story doesn't matter, only theirs does.

DA:Origins needs a "Legendary" type remaster. Or remake in the latest Unreal, I would play that. I am holding back my judgement of the new upcoming game until there is actual player reviews out there, from actual post launch gaming. Not just people that tested it, but , I want to hear from people that played through it. Plus, I don't mind waiting for patches and mods. DA:Origins is so far back in my rear view mirror that playing a remaster will be a fresh experience.
DA2 was cut and paste after cut and paste locations. DA:I was a whole lot of walking and figuring routes, and fetch quests.
Some RPG players like a whole lot of spell and weapon crafting, not me. I like RPGs for the drama, relationships, the action. The less I time I spend in the menu system the better. Mass Effect was my first RPG. and I bought it because, it seemed like a space shooter like Halo. But, it turned out to be so, so much more.
