    He did what most can't:
    Be very effective at a much older age.
    Simply amazing in and of itself.

    I brought one of my cousins from Italy to watch a Pens vs Leafs game at Maple Leaf gardens in 1992. My cousin stated that watching Jagr and Lemieux play together was like looking at art being painted in front of you. I have to agree with her, they were incredible athletes!

    I will say right now and forever that this is the man that made me a fan of hockey. I never saw a player like him before nor since. He is one of the greatest players to have ever lived and he is STILL playing the game. Watching him and Mario play together was something that was majestic and amazing and even then I knew what I was watching was something special. Thank you Jaromir for some of the best times I ever had watching the sport I fell in love with.

      I dont 'adore' him.... but do remember when he broke into the league. He was one of the first highly skilled players I ever saw play in the NHL. There were skilled players obviously, but Jagr was on a different level. Great hands.

    What a journey JJ. From Pittsburgh to Washington - Rangers - Philadephia - Dallas - Boston - New Jersey - Florida and some games on Calgary. But in Pittsburgh was Jagr rising star. If Pens didnt have financial issue/ colaps some thing will be otherwise.

      Why do I have this vision that Jaromir will end up waiting until he’s in his 70s and you’re going to see 70+ year old Jaromir, his 22 year old wife, and Jaromir and his kid will BOTH be in diapers! 😂 I kid, bless his heart, but in all seriousness - Jaromir and Mario are the players who made me a hockey fan 😁

    • @doposud
      @doposud 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      It is not about having the most skilled parents , but about wise parents and great idols.
      When Jagr was 15 years old he asked his dad if he can get new skates , his dad told him : show me that you really want them , do 1000 squats everyday for a week and i will buy them for you.
      So Jaromir did 1000 squats a day and got his new skates.
      But stayed with that training attitude , placing weights on him during training , like 20kg vest and 2kg weight on a stick. And ankles and wrists....
      True dedication is something you can't force on people they need to want it themself and Jagr wanted play with Mario and went for it....

  • @TheTicktockman321
    @TheTicktockman321 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

    I've always felt cheated about how insane that team was in terms of talent and to only win 2 cups. Cheated by the injuries to Mario and Stevens. Cheated by the idiots at the NHL for ushering in the dead puck era that choked Mario out of the league. That team should've won 4 or 5 more cups. Today however is a reminder that those years I did get to see those guys play were truly something special that most fans can't even imagine.

    • @siobhanofarrell4646
      @siobhanofarrell4646 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      We got cheated by a Jagr injury too. It was the ‘99-‘00 season. They’d fired Kevin Constantine, brought in Herb Brooks and Brooks turned Jaromir loose. He had a career making night against NYI right at the end of Dec. Pens won 9-3 & Jaromir racked up 3 goals & 4 assists. According to The Hockey News (playing at the same pace & considering Jaromir was a beast there was ever reason to believe he’d play all season) they said Jaromir was on pace to score at least 70 goals and totally busting his previous Points Total of 149. They said Jaromir was on pace to win scoring race by 42 points ahead of the player in 2nd place. It would have been the largest margin of victory since Gretzky outscored Mario 183-108 in 1987 I think. But in January the referees put away their whistles and it became open season on Jaromir. Herb Brooks was fined $30,000 I think for blasting the officiating to the media and saying the NBA would never allow Michael Jordan to be treated the way Jaromir was - with the amount of clutching & grabbing & cheap shots he was being subjected to. That’s what destroyed his season. Mike Peca tried to take Jaromir out at the knee, but missed. Jaromir was left with a massive blood clot in his thigh and missed most of the second half of the season - at least 12 games (the Pens only won 2 of them) When Jaromir came back he scored 6 pts (3 goals 3 assists) in his first 2 games back. The 3rd game back at Philadelphia, Dan McGillis skated about behind him, left his feet, slammed Jaromir in the upper back, knocking him out of the game (shoulder injury) - Jaromir managed to hang on to win the scoring race with 96 points. But you think about what his overall stats would be if Jaromir had actually been able to play that full season, when he was at his peak - that’s what hurts the most. Because he was forced to play most of his career in the Dead Puck Era, instead of the run and gun 80s - we’ll never know the kinds of records Jaromir could have set

    My heart was broken when they traded him to the Capitals. It felt like the Pens were going to what the Pittsburgh Pirates have been for so long. Inever booed him when Jags came back, I wore his jersey with pride. I truly believe if Jagr wasn't traded for basically nothing in return, then our chances of getting Sid and Malkin would have been very slim. Jagr did excellent for this whole celebration, so cool to see him skate with the team. Just didn't like what he said about coming back to celebrate Stanley Cup Championship reunions and special events. It doesn't seem like he will ever come back again to me.

    I’m a huge wings fan. And I collect hockey books and magazines, and Nicklas Lidstrom who is called the perfect human and top 5 defensive of all time said that # 68 was one of two he mentioned that he played against said he got game he was the hardest to defend. His legs where so big and his stick handling was off the charts. Top 10 in my book to ever play. And it’s hard to get in my top 10…. Congratulations to #68 for his achievements

    I grew up in FL and loved watching Jagr play whenever we could watch games and then I fell out of hockey for a year years in the 2000s. But when I heard his name and that he was still playing in the NHL and was with the Bruins I was shocked. Such a great guy.
