I was all for the Outlaws but man, you absolutely convinced me it should be Swarm and the Delta Center should be nicknamed the Hive. Another amazing video.
I have no idea why the Utah Mustang's is not considered? Utah has over 20 wild mustang herds so the name works for the states identity. The teams charity could be set up around running a mustang sanctuary in Utah, and would make it the only NHL team with an actual barn. Every state and province has a kids team named mustang so that would get some other fans outside Utah. It also sounds like an original team name. With the NHL you can easily spot what NHL teams are new or old by either looking are their names or logos. The Mustangs name with a simple logo would look and sound like an old school team name and end the era of the modern team names like Golden Knights and Kraken. I'm a Minnesota Wild fan and have no problem with our nickname The Minnesota Mild, the nickname Utah Swarm fans would get I already know, and wouldn't like.
In his introduction speech, Liam O'Brien says "I can't wait to get this place buzzing". A hint at a team name that has something to do with bees? I agree with Chris...out of the 20 names in the survey, Swarm would be my choice as well, despite the fact that I hate team names that are singular (like Swarm) rather than plural (like Outlaws). But then Swarm does describe a large group, so there's that. Go, Swarm, Go!!
Love the phonics of utah yeti, really rolls of the tongue. I never really thought much about the swarm but you made some great points. There’s a hockey team in New Zealand’s top league named the botany swarm who use white, maroon and black which seems to work well for them.
You make a good argument for Swarm but Utah Yeti just sounds too good. I can already imagine the fierce logo, the cool colour palette, the mascot, etc. And you can call the arena the “Summit” or “Apex” or “pinnacle” like it’s the top of a snowy mountain. Or maybe “ice cap”?
Swarm may just be the best non-s name idea I’ve seen. It works so well, and doesn’t feel forced or out of place for a team name. My preference was Stingers, and the fans are the Swarm, but Swarm as the team, and the Hive as the arena works great!
They should be called the "Utah Barricades." Colors can be orange, very, white. The mascot can be a construction worker of the month. You can sell cone hats and vests. You can also do kiducation about engineering to entice a younger crowd.
Very convincing on the Swarm/Hive connection. As for the colors, I do agree, they should avoid black and gold (if this is chosen). Georgia Swarm of the NLL does Navy Blue and Gold, and it's worked for them for years. I think a rust/red color to represent the canyons and light blue to represent the ski mountains could compliment each other well too.
Utah Yetis Edit: aww shit it was on the list lol they should 100% go with Yeti/Yetis. Great mascot, great merchandising, great logo opportunity, great name cadence, also a preexisting fandom of the cryptid.
I could see the Utah Swarm potentially using the hive on the Utah flag as part of their logo, similar to how Colorado uses the C in its flag as their secondary logo. In fact if they do go for Swarm of Hive I think we'll probably see of lot of integration of the Utah flag
Great Video and job as always I love the names Hive and Swarm as well but I rather like Swarm better because of the reason you said and I agree with all of your reasons
YETI all the way. You made good points, but those included pointing out that 'we get it, hockey is played on ice, it's cold'.... so a team name with the word 'warm' in doesn't sit well. And I personally, I can't wait for the UTAH generic jersey. But then I also loved the Washington Football Club gear.
Great video. Definitely love Utah Yeti. Just sounds good together. Mythical, unique, mysterious, dangerous. I hope they bring back some purple in the NHL like the Jazz's classic colors.
Utah Swarm is my top choice. I'm imagining personally a look using the dark blue and yellow from the hive on Utah's state flag. Then if you need an accent colours, go with that powder blue from the trim of the current font and black.
Since we're getting just NHL Utah as a first season name, a jersey id like to see would be styled off the flag (blue red yellow and white). I get a plain black jersey with Utah on it would be faster to make, but whats stopping them from doing what Pittsburgh did and change jerseys in the middle of the season. Also the names i picked were Swarm, Yeti, and Venom.
I prefer the scorpion breaking the stick in it's claws (a-la San Jose) or stabbing a puck or something. If you go the stake route, the rattle could be made of interlocking pucks. Bees also have venom (people seem to forget), so you could be the venom and have a bee/hornet/wasp logo. I think Venom is more marketable then people give credit. Fans could still be the swarm, or rattlers, or similar. The rink could still be a hive or a nest or a den (depending on the critter chosen). It just sounds so much more unique than other names in the NHL as well. I like Yeti too, but the Avs already use a bunch of Yeti imagery in their marketing. The used to have a big foot on their jerseys. That's worse than some minor league affiliate (like mammoth). It's a direct tie to another NHL team in the same division.
Very well done. From the names you offered, I liked Mountaineers and Fury. I do prefer animal choices, so Rattlers, Wolves, Rams, Eagles, etc...would be cool too.
I’ve been a big fan of the Swarm as team name since even before they launched the name options for exactly the reasons mentioned in the video. It’s perfect. The colors don’t have to be black and yellow either. For example, you could go with variations of that color scheme. I’d love to see a combination of dark navy blue, orange and an accent color of light blue. Smartly used, I think it could look awesome.
Well if they went with swarm i’d go with Brown, yellow and black trim colors. Perhaps Blue, yellow and red as well. I was thinking about yeti but your logic on the swarm makes way more Sense
If they're using blue, let it be navy. It doesn't get used enough. Too much royal blue (Lightning,Sabres, Maple Leafs, Islanders,Rangers,Blues,Oilers,Canucks)
I like the idea of calling the arena The Hive, but I'm concerned about having another black and yellow/gold team. I'd like to see them use a unique color scheme, but if they become the swarm/hive then you're stuck with black and yellow
Counterpoint to the Swarm wearing black and yellow, basing the brand on the new state flag (with a navy, yellow, and red color scheme) might be preferable. I mean, you kind of have a secondary mark built in that way with the beehive on the flag.
When I saw the title, 20 possible names I was not going to watch. They I saw it was yours and I gladly opened it. There are some good ones and they need to not on,y get the name right but also the logo and colors. Definitely NOT black and yellow. They need to take a page out of Vegas and Seattles books. They nailed everything, especially the unique color combos they have. I like the SWARM and also YETI, they both have tremendous logo possibilities. DEFINITELY no ski themes or land masses, yuck! Great job as always Chris!
As always, fantastic video, Chris. Putting a limit on black/yellow teams doesn't hold water for me when you consider the number of franchises sporting red/blue (Jets, Habs, Jackets, Rangers, Caps, Panthers) or red/black (Hawks, Sens, Canes, Devils, Sabres 3rd).
Chris, Swarm has been my choice since that list came out. It’s the beehive state! Just imagine a honeycomb pattern on the jersey stripes! Glad you have the same idea
On the color front: I think I simple solution would be to incorporate some red or maroon in the primary color scheme, to mimic the look of a hornet. Black, Red and Yellow would certainly help differentiate it from the bruins and pens, but also the flames.
Thank you for mentioning the Colorado Mammoth, not many people bring that up. Other Colorado ties you didn't say are with the Outlaws and the Yeti's. Denver has an inactive outdoor lacrosse team with the name Outlaws and a Yeti was the Avs first official mascot, along with the yeti foot on the shoulder of the jerseys. Just like you said IMO Hive and Swarm should be the way they go.
If they name the team Yeti and go after Mitch Marner from Toronto...i will change my team to Utah i have been a leafs fan for 57 yrs since i was 3 years old but i need a change cause i want to watch a team that its fan base doesn't boo their players.
I think the Swarm is the perfect name, tied in with the Hive. The colors need to black and yellow, but could use a more orangey yellow to match the color of honey, and to avoid the bruins and penguins yellow.
I'm a Yotes Fan for years, migtrated from Germany to New Zealand, a very close friend to the Kaberle family and 2019/20 I came over to Phoenix to watch 4 home games. The Utah Swarm was my recommandation and it seems that the commentator and myself have been cloned. His opinion about the meaning and the symbolising of the name swarm was my thoughts to send this idea. We cant call the team UTAH Avelange what would be fit perfectly but we have that name already around. So what symbolised the team and this beautiful state of Ytah better than a huge swarm of activities, of power, of dominating its surroundings and activities by a huge team effort as a swarm of hungry and determinated, committed Hockey players, a Swarm of winners.
You've convinced me of swarm! That said I don't think the team needs to be yellow and black, personally i really like the idea of orange-yellow, orange-red, or brown. I think that could be really cool!
I think that out of these options I'm probably most excited about the Swarm as well, and pretty much for the same reasons you said. Caribou would make for an awesome identity, but the word itself just doesn't feel powerful enough for a hockey team name. What I personally would do would be to actually take a page out of the Coyotes' book and pay tribute to the indigenous people of Utah (and in a way, the Coyotes too) and incorporate indigenous patterns in the striping. They have some cool wildlife there, so maybe use a mountain lion, black bear (I know the Bruins use a brown bear, but whatever), foxes or maybe some of their venomous reptiles even. Not sure what name I'd go for, but I'm personally more fond of the traditional pluralized names, so it would depend on which animal would be represented. As for colors, I'm a sucker for 90s logos, so Utah Jazz' color palate from '96 until 2010 would be ideal; light blue, purple and white. It's all a little basic and maybe uninspired, but I guess I'm pretty old fashioned in that way.
Loved the video! I’m also on team Swarm. I think maybe black, yellow and Purple could be cool. Throw in another colour just for the hell of it that isn’t utilized much elsewhere. As an Avs fan I want Utah to be our biggest rival moving forward so all of the snow based names don’t do it for me since nothing beats an Avalanche. Also Yeti is a no go since the Avs have used a Yeti foot as their secondary logo in the past. Give me Swarm or Venom!
I don't care what they are called. If they don't use purple then they missed a great opportunity to have distinctive colour scheme (unless the Kings change back to purple before they reveal their colours)
The Swarm is already in use by the Manchester Swarm here in the UK, a beer league team playing in Altrincham. The beer is the symbol of Manchester, hence the name. I can see it working well for the Utah team.
Am I the only one who doesn't like uncountable names? Wild, Lightning, Swarm, Venom, Fury? It just doesn't work. I'm a Penguin, you're a Penguin, we are Penguins. I'm an Oiler, you're an Oiler, we are Oilers. That works. I'm a Swarm, you're a Swarm just doesn't work. Venom, Fury, whatever. Yeti, Blizzard, make it freaking countable! 1Yeti, 2 Yetis, 1 Blizzard, 2 Blizzards! Is that so hard? Great video analysis, though. Super solid reasoning.
Thanks for watching! One counterpoint on the “uncountable names” though... if a team is really a team, these names are perfect. They identify a collective as opposed to a bunch of individuals. Just a thought. I’m not for or against one or the other. I think both types of names should exist in sports where appropriate.
I'm team Yeti but I think the Outlaws could work. Butch Cassidy and Billy the Kid both have ties to Utah and both used Itah as hideouts. There's some cool marketing things you could do too.
The Venom could also be linked to the beehive reference. Think of it like the Wild where a logo could have multiple references in it. As for the black and yellow issues with any beehive reference, that shouldn't be an issue if those colors are secondary and tertiary. Why couldn't purple be the primary still? Purple, black, and yellow. Love it.
Its gotta be Yeti! Can you imagine the Vegas intro when they play in Vegas!? Plus a rivalry with Seattle over who is the more dominant of the mystical creatures is. The script writes itself
Perhaps an analysis on teams outside north america would make for an interesting video? As for my thoughts on how I'd handle this, Utah HC would make sense as the generic place-holder until either the Yeti or Swarm is chosen as the primary name. From there, go with Utah Swarm HC or Utah Yeti HC.
I still think Outlaws is the best. It goes with a major part of our State's history of outlaws, exiles, and old west tales. The team was as you said, was created unconventionally. And Hockey is a rough and tumble sport that takes true grit and has fights in it. The branding would be amazing too. So much you could do with it. It's also not super derivative like Yeti, Mammoth, Blizzard, etc.
I agree that Swarm would be the best name. I think a yellow and purple scheme could be interesting if they don't want to go to yellow and black, and it just ties in so well with the state. As a Colorado sports fan, I am strongly opposed to Outlaws and Mammoth (both of which are lacrosse teams in Denver) and Yeti (which at least used to be part of the Avs branding).
You made a GREAT argument for the Swarm playing at the Hive
This combo seems like such a no-brainer that I will seriously question SEG's collective intelligence if they don't go with it

Great video as always!! Fury, Venom, Swarm and Yeti are my top votes here. I can’t wait to see what they go with!
Retrospective on Arizona was great! Would happily watch more on different teams
I felt like you were gonna go with the Hive/Swarm when you used many of the hexagons in the transitions (They are the Bestagons)
haha i was wondering if anyone would pick up on that 😅
They should be called the "Utah Barricades." Colors can be orange, very, white. The mascot can be a construction worker of the month. You can sell cone hats and vests. You can also do kiducation about engineering to entice a younger crowd.
Great video! I voted Yeti / Black Diamonds/ Swarm / Venom (Scorpions) I like your argument for the Swarm with the Barn called the Hive!
Maybe the Swarm would have purple jerseys with yellow and red accents?
Utah Yetis
Edit: aww shit it was on the list lol they should 100% go with Yeti/Yetis.
Utah Yeti would sell merchandise like crazy. Colorway would be incredibly easy and popular as well
Great Video and job as always I love the names Hive and Swarm as well but I rather like Swarm better because of the reason you said and I agree with all of your reasons
Yeti vs. Kraken would be exiting. Cool name, I must say.
Utah Swarm is my top choice. I'm imagining personally a look using the dark blue and yellow from the hive on Utah's state flag. Then if you need an accent colours, go with that powder blue from the trim of the current font and black.
I bet it will be a combination of Yeti and Bee Hive. Hexagon shaped logo bordering a yeti themed image
I would like a video about the Dallas stars history with the jersey ⭐️ 💚 I love your videos and your website I’ve been a fan for many years !!
Been waiting for this to drop 🔥
I’m an Utah fan and am really excited to see what the team name is! Dying to get a jersey and other merchandise!
I like the outlaws, swarm, and yetis
The Avalanche already have Yeti foot on their uniforms
Utah Yeti ❤
I'm really liking the Utah yeti. The kraken is also a cryptid/ monster as well
@@theramplocalThe Kraken aren't the first team to do this either. The New Jersey Devils are named after the Jersey Devil, so why not one more?
I think that’ll win. Utah Yeti rolls off the tongue
I’d love to see videos about anything you have to say. Always look forward to new videos!
haha, thanks for the kind words!
I think black and yellow could work for the Swarm, if they add an accent color that would make them distinctive from the Pens and the Bruins.
I see light blue in a lot of concepts
Since we're getting just NHL Utah as a first season name, a jersey id like to see would be styled off the flag (blue red yellow and white). I get a plain black jersey with Utah on it would be faster to make, but whats stopping them from doing what Pittsburgh did and change jerseys in the middle of the season.
Also the names i picked were Swarm, Yeti, and Venom.
The Swarm sounds awesome but I’m not sure the Georgia Swarm NLL team would effect that being an option or not. I would assume not
Utah Venom - the logo could be a scorpion with a hockey stick tail!
@@coreywold669 or maybe you've just got horrible taste and are really arrogant
@@coreywold669 like we care what YOU think? Lol
@@coreywold669 go cry about it. You have nothing better to do than to spew negativity.
I voted for Venom. So many logo possibilities!!
It won’t have anything to do with Bees. It’s already taken and would bee dumb to have two teams with similar names. My vote is for Yeti.
Love the Utah Mammoth with teams mascots beat in the playoffs skewered on the tusks!!!
Thanks so much for watching! 💙
Phoenix coyotes Fan loves the Utah Swarm. See you at the Hive. Purple is still the prime color sure bees are yellow and black for contrast
Sounds too much like VGK. I say not black and yellow.
I love this channel!
You've convinced me of swarm! That said I don't think the team needs to be yellow and black, personally i really like the idea of orange-yellow, orange-red, or brown. I think that could be really cool!
You’re totally right about that. They could definitely get more creative on the color palette!
I like the name Venom
I love Venom. So many possibilities with the logo!!
I'm warming up to the Swarm. I like it. I can picture the logo with one realistic bee in the foreground and shadows of many in the back. 🐝
I don't care what they are called. If they don't use purple then they missed a great opportunity to have distinctive colour scheme (unless the Kings change back to purple before they reveal their colours)
That Jazz putple jersey eith the rockies on it... Iconic. Imagine a version of that on a NHL sweater.
@@Gubna047 I know, I want them to use purple so bad, especially if it’s a winteresque team name. Have the mountains as the bottom stripe.
Im expecting purple and blue, especially the shades the Jazz used in the 90s. Still,I'll settle for green. There's not enough green in the NHL
Black diamonds is the best name imo
I like Blizzard and Venom
The Swarm is already in use by the Manchester Swarm here in the UK, a beer league team playing in Altrincham. The beer is the symbol of Manchester, hence the name. I can see it working well for the Utah team.
Gotta be Yeti !!! ❤❤❤
For the question in the beginning, I think more brand retrospects like the coyotes one would be fantastic
I've been all over X about how this team should be named the Utah Swarm. Would love to see it!
I'm team Yeti but I think the Outlaws could work. Butch Cassidy and Billy the Kid both have ties to Utah and both used Itah as hideouts. There's some cool marketing things you could do too.
Yes please do more videos like Shifting Sands their so fun
The Venom could also be linked to the beehive reference. Think of it like the Wild where a logo could have multiple references in it.
As for the black and yellow issues with any beehive reference, that shouldn't be an issue if those colors are secondary and tertiary. Why couldn't purple be the primary still? Purple, black, and yellow. Love it.
Man, the Venom could have a killer bee AND a friggin rattle snake on the logo. Who says a team can't have TWO animals on the crest?!?
Its gotta be Yeti! Can you imagine the Vegas intro when they play in Vegas!? Plus a rivalry with Seattle over who is the more dominant of the mystical creatures is.
The script writes itself
Perhaps an analysis on teams outside north america would make for an interesting video?
As for my thoughts on how I'd handle this, Utah HC would make sense as the generic place-holder until either the Yeti or Swarm is chosen as the primary name. From there, go with Utah Swarm HC or Utah Yeti HC.
Yeti all the way with the jazz purple and blue colours
You've convinced me, I was a Mammoth supporter but Swarm is now my choice.
