As a Yinzer, I’ve seen cup finals games, Crosbys first shootout goal against Montreal, Malkin’s unbelievable goal against Edmonton, and many other memories. None of it tops this night. Blessed to say I saw such a historic night with my own eyes. 68 forever.
So awesome! I’m the same age as Jagr so I got to see his entire NHL career. Although he ended up playing for 8 teams after Pittsburgh, he helped each one of them and always looked forward to the highlights! #68
Amazing player. Ive seen so many highlights in the past few days. You know what im not seeing? Him flying down the ice with multiple dudes on his back all the while he’s skating like they’re not even there. He had serious leg strength
Has the player who's having their number retired ever warmed up with the team before? Has an active professional ever actually had their number retired before they do other than Jagr?
What an absolute legend! All of his teammates look like grandpas, he's still playing, owns a team and has a girl who's too young to remember he played in the USA :D
I'm also 52 and have been watching Penguin hockey since dad said, "Check this kid out..." in 1984. I was floored when I saw some of the old team come out. Except Jay Caufield. Dude's chiseled from a block of stone face will never change, lol.
I can't believe it's been 30+ years since the b2b cups! I still remember that, and THE Volek goal that ended the third run🤦♂ Just imagine if he wouldn't have left to play in Europe for all those years...
A lot of people forget that at the end of Dec. ‘99 Jaromir was in the midst of what APPEARED to be a record shattering season. The Hockey News wrote an article saying Jags was projected to score 70+ goals, rack up 170-180 points and finish roughly 42 points ahead of the rest of the league, which would have been the largest margin of victory since 99 won back in ‘86-‘87. Well Gary Bettman’s shitty NHL wasn’t about to let THAT happen, so when the season resumed in Jan ‘00, the refs put away their whistles, it became open season on Jags and he ended up suffering a leg injury courtesy of cheap shot artist Mike Peca that took him out of action for something like 12-15 consecutive games. He missed most of the 2nd half of that season and STILL managed to hang on & win the scoring race with 96 points.
In what other city in the WORLD can you identify a sports legend by one name? Jags - Geno - Sid - Mario - Franco - Roberto - Pops - Ben? Phenomenal sports town. Phenomenal fans!!!!!!!!! (N'at!!!!!!!)
Czech biggest hockey star is Penguin forever. In Pittsburgh he was rising star with big persons. In Washington-Rangers-Philadephia-Dallas-Boston-New Jersey-Florida-Calgary was good but in Pens was/is god..with great Mario.
Granted deciding when to hold the retirement ceremony entails a lot of things but the age and health of the parents of the player in question should be one of the things that is taken into account. The Pens had so many years to do this but dragging it out resulted in having the ceremony take place after Jagr's dad had passed away.
He should have dressed and played a few shifts, fans would have gone bananas. That would have been pretty special, and the modern sporting world is in dire need of some humanity and fun.
Wow.......Pens should have tried to somehow sign him for a day and had him play a shift or two........and maybe even try to get him a chance to score a goal!! Just seeing him skating makes you want to see him play with these guys one last time...... : D
Back in the 90s when ESPN SportsCenter was still all about sports and none of this woke bullshit, …The man who is writing this currently was just a child, we look forward to Barry Melrose and the hockey highlights to see what y’all were younger had pulled off the previous evening. I’ve always been a Pittsburgh Penguins fan because of Jagr. Can I also add that when he came to America his outgoing love for this country is what we need more of right now how I’ll even rock the Canadian tuxedo.. denim jacket & denim jeans baby!!
Because he doesn't want to stop playing. He even bought the hokey club, so he doesn't have to hustle any contracts. That said, they had pretty bad season last year and from the start of this one, it looks even worse. They are at the bottom of the league. So I think he will retire soon.
Give me a break TSN, barely make out the f bomb. Who cares. But that had to be the second thing you put up in the thumbnail in RED. Again, who cares. Congrats Jagr.
I burst when he mentioned his girlfriend and said she's too young to remember I played in Pittsburgh lmao
That was the best part! I was asking myself is that his daughter 😂. Nope!
Jagr won in life
I thought the same lol@@NESADDICT
I immediately went to her Instagram site and pleasured
One of the greats! For a while there, with Gretzky in decline and Lemieux retired, he was hands down the best player in the world!
Jagr was my second favorite player as a kid. So happy his banner is home where it’s suppose to be.

Agreed. Some were sour when he left but his time was done. Totally get it. Lots of memories in the burgh

Jagr's a champ 🏆. Not taking things too seriously and enjoying the moment.
HE WILL ALWAYS BE A PENGUIN!!!! PITTSBURGH A CLASSY TEAM
Our legend.....❤

What a legend. On and off the ice.
They should absolutely put him in the Hall asap. Good on Pitts for this.

Thanks Gino! Thanks Jaromir!
As the great Don Cherry coined; Yammy Jagr!❤
That’s how every jersey retirement should be
LEGEND.
Amazing player👍💯

Yeah, what a fantastic night. Being 2nd in scoring behind Gretzky means being the best among mortals.

Absolutely.😢

Since Jagr played for 9 teams why only the Pens retires Jagr jersey? Shouldn't the other 8 teams Jagr played for do the same as well?
No. Because 5 of those teams he played for for a single season.
Calgary needs to retire his jersey lol jk
Accomplished more with Pitts. Was on the team for 11 yrs.
Fun show and he deserves it. Too bad his jersey didn't get spelled out correctly. He is not Jaromir Jagr, he is Jaromír Jágr. 🙂
Jagr Should Have PLAYED!!
Definitely could help the PP.
this guy loves him because theyre the same age

Why doesn't the man retire. 52 years old
Because he doesn't want to stop playing. Pretty simple explanation.

He's only playing for the kids in Kladno, get him the HHOF!
Nope. He plays the czech top league. Not regularly this year though
I said same thing

Until Jagr can prove that he can skate backwards, there should be no hall of fame induction!
