Teemu was a class act. Met him at Winnipeg speedway one night and chatted with him, autographed my program. He lived a few blocks away from me, and could always be found playing street hockey with the local kids...
one of the nicest classiest guys ever in the game...you won't find many guys who with such a positive attitude and happiness while playing...in all his games and interviews
Being from Winnipeg I hated the trade, but in fairness there was no way we were going to win any trade with Selanne unless it was similar to the Lindros trade. Thanks for the memories Teemu, glad you got a Cup in the end, too bad Kariya wasn't with you then.
Can a guy be more genuine and good natured??? Teemu Selanne is a true class act!!! I'm not sure if he still does this but I know that during his playing career each off season he would take a VW camper van with a bunch of his friends and go camping all throughout Finland... He's truly a great human being... Thanks for being one of the best Teemu!!!
I live in Winnipeg and whenever he would come for a visit the city always went nuts and still does We love the man. When my GF went to Toronto for a transplant meeting with a bunch of doctors there was a "legends game" happening that day and my Gf and her dad both went and teemu was there. He was her favorite player, and she waited after the game and wanted his autograph She was having trouble walking about thru the crowd and he noticed and by passed everyone to get to her even climbing over the railing and signed her stuff happy a winnipeger was there to see him Tha k you teemu You made her feel good and happy that day. Sadly she's gone now, I miss her so much.
The "last player on the bus" story reminds me of the time he obliged every last autograph seeker in the frigid cold, in effect keeping a loaded team bus waiting to travel to the airport. There will never be another "Finnish Flash."
If anyone could it would be Ovie, although he's still a premier goal scorer in the league 70+ is a feat he's never accomplished and at this point in his career would be an even tougher milestone to hit. The fact that Selanne put up that total in his rookie season makes it all that more impressive.
As per the comment about NHL players signing in pairs, another big one other than Selanne-Kariya was in 2012 when Zach Parise and Ryan Suter both left their respective teams to sign matching 13-year deals in Minnesota.

Several players today could get 76. Scoring is ticking back up like it was in previous generations. I think McDavid, Draisaitl, Matthews maybe Pastrnak could get 76 goals at some point. They're all on pace for over 50 right now. But especially McDavid and Matthewe are still only 23 and 22 respectively they haven't hit their peak just yet
Highest goal scoring season in the last 15 years was 65 goals , and that was Ovechkin. Since the millennium changed we’ve only seen two 60 or 60+ goal seasons. Nobody has scored 70 or 70+ since 92. So I doubt anyone will score 70 goals in today’s game, 50 goals today is an amazing accomplishment.
