    I just bought an 04 S60R and drove it from Florida to Kentucky. Already ordered an IPD boost guage and Viva pod for it. I'm hoping to color match all the trim. So far i'm very happy with my Passion red Gobi. I wish it was Atacama.

    Sorry, but the double-spoke wheels are a fail. Sell them, got some of your money back out of them and put the 17's back on. OEM, right? ;)
    Also, the 4C suspension is history, so it will never truly be "OEM".
    I'm a little lukewarm on your overall assessment of "really good" about the car... What did you find when you tried to rehab the left front fender gap?

    That DVD player on the headliner is I think a Sony MV-900SDS that you can buy for about $700 or so back in 2005 or so. (DEFINITELY NOT STOCK)

      Yea it does look pretty flushed with the “stock” theme, btw does the sound from that DVD player go through the car’s speakers or its through that DVD player itself?

    I like the idea of a restoration on this car. Make it as close to OEM "fresh off the showroom floor" both mechanically and cosmetically as possible, then do maybe some fun stuff like an exhaust, etc.

      I'm curious how he got the car registered if it came back with a Junk title, they only give Junk titles out to cars deemed unsafe for road use for example frame damage. And they never rescind them, hence the "Junk" not "Salvage" title.

    The Volvo V70 series cars are awesomely comfortable to ride in. Not going to find another car with that level of comfort. Combine that with the highly tuneable P2 engine, rare is just way too understating it. But it'll take a lot of $$$ to restore and.....not forgetting....to maintain them. Make friend with a good, personable Volvo tech, you'll need it! The "Journey" can be quite painful but sweet if you have the cash. Do remember the R engine can't take too much boost as the walls between cylinders are too thin. I'd say anything beyond 350bhp is a risk of cracking the cylinder if you floor it often.

  • @deenhubin3766

    Once you get the headlights and fogs cleaned up, add a set of Lamin-X protectors. Thick, clear, and not expensive when compared to replacing a housing. I've had them on all my cars since my '99 528iT and swear by them.
    Regarding the wheels, I bet you could find some black steelies and mount some sweet Volvo 240 hubcaps!

  • @dgovorcin

    Roof racks are from XC70 model. Engine bay is stock, front intercooler color is peeled-off but it's a comment thing on this model. I resprayed mine. Be careful with front left quarter panel and gaps it could mean that a car had an accident at some point. Seats can be redyed and I'm preparing to do so. Unfortunately stitching is done very badly. I'm planing to remove mine and then do the stitching from the other side. Good luck, I'm following your project. Too bad for the old V70R hope it will fine some good soul to repair him properly and love him for good :-)

      Volvos and worn out engine mounts, classic. Especially in the winter when they become rock solid and turn your gas engine into agricultural diesel at stoplights. Half the people say that OEM ones are a worthless replacement and other half say that aftermarket ones are even harder highlighting the problem.

    • @timschelley8737
      @timschelley8737 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      well i prefer my S60R to feel like a sports car not a Buick so I don't see whats wrong with feeling your engine rumble a little bit at idle. Polyurethane mounts are far superior and keep your engine from banging around under the hood. Unless you enjoy driving a Buick the harder mounts are a good thing.

    Roof rails are from a XC70, R ones are more low profile. Engine bay is all stock besides the poly torque mount. The R's have a dual intercooler setup. The main big one, and the little one on the front that branches off the main one. I don't think the DVD player is stock. I've never seen one before so not sure. Other then that it looks great. Also retint the it, it looks much better with tint. Also nice wheels. I think I'll look into them for my Sonic 06 M66 VR

    Yeah u could get a DVD player. Don’t know if the Sony branded one is stock tho. The nav design mean only DVD in the rear. IMO the single best OEM accessory is the flip up dog gate and you can find em for about $100.

    • @drewalsup9200
      @drewalsup9200 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      my cross country has a roll up partition that's built into the rear seats, I did not even know it was there until recently, I allways thought the little loop straps were to pull the seats back up from folded I pulled on them and this two piece plastic grate unrolled with this extendable bar that snaps into the headliner, honestly I just love how you can flip the trunk matt carpet over and it has a rubber bottom in case you need to put a muddy dog back there or a bunch of dirty tires lol

    Do you guys know where to get the foam and leather for those seats? I have seats with that exact shape in my 99 S80 but I can’t seem to find them, mine is in a toupee color. (Edit: mine have like a suede insert in the middle where you sit and on the back, so if they make those id like to keep it that way)

  • @darrinanddonna
    @darrinanddonna 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Howdy, they have twin intercoolers , one in front of the other, you are missing the plastics that hold the fuel pump lines to the chassis:)
    Somebody has started pulling the tint off and that's why it's sticky.
    Look into TME exhaust systems from Sweden, I have the full system on my car and it has a great note but it's doesn't drone on the motorway, power steering pump could just have a loose pipe, I've seen this a few times now. Are you putting the 4c suspension back in ?

    By the look of the green colored antifreeze, you have the wrong type. Volvo’s use an antifreeze with HOAT that is a light orange color.

    • @drewalsup9200
      @drewalsup9200 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      my v70xc awd uses blue color antifreeze I think its the zerex g2 although I could be wrong, it had blue coolant when I bought it and was told to use it. it has the same turbo 5 that's in the car in the above video just a little older and tuned differently for the cross country sort of suv offroader style trim, its not a cheap car to maintain but is well worth it. they are great cars.

    • @csebastian71
      @csebastian71 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Drew Alsup I also used Zerex but mine was orange. Definitely seems to be the brand that’s needed for most Volvo’s.

      2.4L inline 5 turbo all wheel drive, it looks to be a 10valve I'm not sure on when they went to 20valve engines

    • @timschelley8737
      @timschelley8737 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Drew is incorrect, it is a 2.5L inline 5 turbo, 20 valves (Volvo hasn't used single cam 10 valve motors for a couple decades). It is a "B525-4T4" the 525 standing for 5cyl 2.5L, and the 4t4 designating the R engine variation with 300hp using a KKK24 turbo. I believe the majority of these R's were assembles in Belgium, those are the good ones. Make sure if you are buying your own that the engine bay has the "Made in Belgium" stamp.

    • @markkibbe1802
      @markkibbe1802 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      frally1000 I have the same engine in my 2005 V50. I suggest doing suspension, a good exhaust, and possibly one of those handheld ECU tuners if it is in your budget. A good, cheap way to make more horsepower is with one of those handheld ECU tuners, such as the ones from COBB, although I don't think they make one for either the S40 or the V50. I'd double check that. I do know the guys over at Elevate make one. The handheld thing is good assurance since you can revert to stock tune if you need to, for example, take it to a dealer, unlike a professionally reflashed ECU, which tends to be more expensive anyways. An upgraded rear sway bar will also make a world of a difference. I haven't done it yet myself, but plan to soon. Check out elevatecars.com for some good speed parts for your S40, as well as IPD USA (to a lesser extent) or VIVA Performance. One note: Don't try to send too much power through the automatic transmission, if you have it. The manual is basically bomb proof, but the auto may slip if given too much power, especially if you or a previous owner didn't do all recommended maintenance listed in your owner's manual (fluid changes, etc). You should have no problem with just a handheld tuner or any other power adder at that price level, but if you are looking to send much more power through that engine possibly in the future, then I'd watch out and possibly have someone inspect it. The engine itself will take basically anything you throw at it, as long as you aren't stupid and the mileage isn't too high. With a low to medium budget you won't be pushing anywhere near that level of power, but it depends on how well it has been taken care of in the past. Your car will be a blast with just a sway bar and lowering springs, though, and if you don't care too much about more horsepower than stock and value handling, it's the way to go. Also, a good catback exhaust is a must. That engine sounds absolutely amazing uncorked. It also gives you a little more horsepower, but I did it for the sound. If you are willing to stretch your budget a little I would do the sway bar and the handheld tuner, as well as an exhaust. It's a good mix of improved straight line speed, incredible sound, and improved handling. Just the exhaust and a sway bar will make that thing a blast on back roads. Do what best suits your driving style and budget. Sorry about the essay. Have fun with your S40.

    That small intercooler is not an intercooler. (Sorry, I sound rude) It's actually an upgraded transmission oil cooler. I have the same setup on my 07 V70R and its the transmission cooler from the XC90 and is a very common upgrade to do for the transmission cooling. on the M66 or TF80-SC.

      The one at 16:30 in the lower bumper opening is in fact the factory auxiliary intercooler. There's another (primary) intercooler sandwiched in between the condenser and radiator. This car is a manual so there's no trans cooler.

    Wait a minute didn't all face 2 have washer jets instead of the head light wipers?
    Turns out some of the early face 2 hade the head light wipers.
    Those lock nubs (the things on the door that go up and down when you nun lock and lock the car) they look really odd on the American cars / spec.
    They make me cringe like the orange reflektor in the US head lights.
    And the DVD player is not .O.E.M.

      Klas Peppar Aren't headlight wipers some kind of ancient US law thing?

    • @klaspeppar5619
      @klaspeppar5619 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Keksi the Labrador I don't know a lot about the American laws whene it comes to headlight wipers, but I don't remember seeing a SweDM V70 face 2 with wipers.
      I think the early face 2 (later half of 2004) euro spec hade theme too, but I'm not sure about that.

    • @EDHBlvd
      @EDHBlvd 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Headlight wipers were on European cars of the same generation. This wasn’t an American thing. American cars of the 80’s and 90’s didn’t have any form of headlight wipers or washers. Only European makes.

    • @klaspeppar5619
      @klaspeppar5619 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Rediscover Film i know we in Europe hade laws headlight wipers , I was just unsure about the US.
      I think you are right, I have never seen a picture of lets say old Camaro with headlight wipers.
      The one thing that you are wrong about is that all of the n generation did not have headlight wipers, 2005 they got headlight jet washers.
      This makes the face 2 with headlight wipers super rare, as they where only produced in the later half of 2004. And that is probably why I can't remember seeing a SweDM face 2 car with headlight wipers.

    Okay after you looking over the whole car, I'm not gonna lie that thing is kind of a pile.. Multiple collisions and poorly done work is what caused all those large panel gaps and weird fitting pieces. A lot of hack job kind of work is indicative of a bad previous owner, and if they don't take care of the bits of car you can see you can bet money they don't stay on top of maintenance or go to reputable shops. It's going to take a lot of work to get it back into nice condition.

      The loose plastic on the B-pillar and the somewhat odd aligning of the inner ceiling above the driver door, along with the repainted left front fender makes me wonder if the airbagcurtains along the left side of the car has been deployed and are no more? Do these seats come with airbags at the outer hems? Could that be why it has been stiched together again? I feel a total measurement of the chassi would not be a total waste of time. Not fun when you grind those new Michelins to the core because the whole car might be scewed!

    • @JK-tu1xx
      @JK-tu1xx 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Noticed that as well, and as far as airbags in the seats I don't believe that they did but that plastic piece that he pulled out of where the seatbelt was has an airbag under it and I didn't see one there so your theory is probably correct.

    • @bbjca737
      @bbjca737 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jared K if airbags in the seat back there will be a cloth AIRBAG tag sewn in to the stitching, my 01 V70 had them. Stitching opening up is very common problem. Also the dings in the left doors at the top are probably from the point of the wheel arch rear door of an SUV, front one angle parking rear one straight in parking. Just about all V70’s have these two dings on the left side, from moms putting wiggly kids in the SUV’s car at the supermarket. That flat spot under the windows is just about the same height.

    • @rex_s80
      @rex_s80 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      bbjca737 yep I can confirm living in Texas that with all the trucks and suvs you are going to get the dings there and it’s so hard to keep away from the big cars that do that. The side molding can’t help prevent dings if your truck is 15 feet in the air. It gets annoying sometimes so I usually park #nodingsquad far away and have complaining passengers. (Edits are for grammar, I sounded even more stupid earlier, trust me this is an improvement lol)

      Tim Schelley R engine is weak. The cylinders burst easily. know people who have broken the engine with the original effect when they have driven a caravan. I have not trimmed my car car because of that problem.

      The engine block is poorly built. The t5 engine with 260hp is 10 times better and keeps much more power. t5 engine 260hp record what i know totally original with only E85 programs is 420hp

      Well thats unfortunate. My dad has owned a 04 V70R since new, it has 160k now and it has needed an alternator, radiator, and rear cam seals during its 14 year stretch of constant daily driving. It has an ipd tune, and the auto trans is on its way out but the motor is still running strong.

    • @karlsundbeck1601
      @karlsundbeck1601 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Tim Schelley do a full throttle test in a steep uphill of 6 gear 👍🏻 everything depends on how to drive the car. Feel the one who works at the factory that manufactures the engines. There is a difference in blocks.
