    Nice man! :D I got a V70 T5 2005. Got some problems with the turbo and idle. Changed MAF 2 times and the engine still runs better without it. The turbo pushes 1.5 bar and then shuts of to not damage anything. Ive checked all connections, all vacume hoses, Changed oil and filter etz, will try plugs and coils now.

    My S60R was surging at about 3000rpm, I replaced the spark plugs and it now runs fine. The plugs were only worn to between 0.9 to 1.0mm.
    I replaced them with NGK Laser Iridium ILFR6B gapped at 0.7mm.
    The original Volvo plugs had done over 155000km & the previous owner had never changed them.

      I read them all! I love conversing with all the viewers. And that was so helpful. SOOOOO satisfying to get that thing out.

    If you have a seized bolt Applying heat does wonders. I recommend the harbor freight heat gun. Once heated use the screwdriver. Same applies to stripped bolts.

      A great suggestion, but did try that last time off camera to no avail.

      ShiftingLanes awh :( glad to see you got the car fixed :) tho. Then i guess there's that screw extractor tool which is great for my stripped hex screws. Hope you go the efr route for turbo swap.

    Just bought an S60R M66. It’s a higher mileage, fairly beaten up car that I got for 2k to slowly restore. These cars are super simple where others are difficult but at the same time can be super difficult where others are simple. Just super unique.

    I gess that not having a charge pipe that blocks the "top cover" could be one of the few thing that are good about the NA B5244S and B5244S2, that and fuel economy.
    B stand for "bensine" which means petrol in Swedish
    5 cylinders
    24 or 20 or 25 or 44 is the desplaysmant in liters/ 24=2,4 liter.
    4
    4 i think it means engine?
    S stands for "Sug" which translate to Suck, as the Swedish word for a Naturly asperated enigne is "Sug motor" and T if you have a turbo like a B5254T4.
    2 variant/ map numbe (B5244S is the same engine as a B5244S2 but with a diferent map).

    Get yourself a pancake and a set of impact drive bits imho, those things take off fasteners quickly without messing up the bolts too much in my experience. Also, I personally had to chase the threads on my 07 XC70 block holding the aftermarket aluminum charge pipe down after four removals with hand drive tools. I'm sure the aluminum is fantastic for everything else, but the small threads are not a lot of fun.

      Had to do a complete PCV replacement at 95k miles on my 07 XC70 about one year ago exactly

    • @seanocd
      @seanocd 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      2nded.
      First things to check/replace when you get one:
      PCV, vac hoses, engine mounts, coils and plugs.
      Other than those maintence items and the 4C suspension, there really isn't much that goes wrong.
      Oh, and clean the intake system once you've sorted those out.

    Awesome!! HEy Gregson, one question about your damper/spring combination - what are the parts and how much lower are you with the Volvo? I've got a V70 D5 with 420000 miles on it - but looking like new (well, almost) and running like it, too. Got it veeeeery cheap, still want to do some mods and had to do damper/springs. Now it feels too low... anyway: keep the videos coming, love your style! Greets from Germany

      @ShiftingLanes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Willkommen! So glad you’re watching from across the pond. Hope you like the other Volvo videos as well and stay for lots more to come.
      The setup I have is BC racing coilovers but to be honest I do not know anything about them. However, I can say the ride height is lower by about 1” all around and it looks great. No rubbing anywhere!
      Great car with high miles man.

    The rough idle could have been just because of new parts but it could be caused by a dirty throttle body (the butterfly valve having carbon build up). Symptoms of this could be a lower than normal and or rough idle which may cause it to die but will start back up again with a small blip of the htrottle (you may see the interior and exterior lights get brighter and dimmer with the change in revs). But it could be something else just thought I'd let you know. Great to see it running again :)

    • @ShiftingLanes
      @ShiftingLanes  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Excellent points. Throttle body is next if this thing keeps dying, which is a possibility. But we’ll see! Thanks man.

      ShiftingLanes also you need to clean te MAF, and a new gasoline filter, if that dosen't fix it, then te next thing to do should be to celan the inyectos

    Have that same stupid little bolt on my XC70. Aargh! +1 on PB Blaster & heat for most things; not this. I still haven't gotten it loose.

  • @1mace45

    Might the enging revving to 2k and dying when starting up might also be a side effect of running too rich? I found a picture showing the condition of spark plugs after an x-amount of miles, and based on your video, the Volvo’s spark plug looks like it might be coated in carbon dust (maybe from running rich). You can find that chart and a bunch of other potentially useful info from this link: www.quora.com/Why-are-my-spark-plugs-so-dark-when-I-remove-them-after-5-000-miles/answer/Michael-Kay-23?share=a8860242&srid=Uz4S
    Also, best of luck with the Volvo! I’m rooting for it, as I have a 2004 V70 T5, and have been a Volvo guy all my life. Also can’t wait to see what you’ll do with the V8 Vantage!

    Do you think putting some fuel cleaner through the system might help? Might clear some of the gunk out of it after 141k miles

    • @ShiftingLanes
      @ShiftingLanes  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good suggestion. I had thought about it but the jury is out on if those cleaners really do anything. There are studies out there that say they’re both good and also a big fat placebo. Might try it just to see what happens.
