What I learned form watching this video is I need to find a new word to use other than...."fantastic". Also, we filmed this video at the end of last year prior to the R5C being announced. But even with that being announced, it wouldn't have fit into this particular video. Maybe a future one for R5 vs R5C, we will see.
I'm going to wait and see what the RP2 looks like. R5m R6 and now R3's are experiencing lockups/freezes. Its not good enough for the prices people pay. I'm still on 6d2 and won't be switching just yet.
You are fantastic reviewer. I have made the decision to pick up Canon depend on your review "R5 vs Nikon Z7 vs Sony" comparison in August 2020. Thanks for your great sharing .
Just got the R6. Budget was a big factor, especially after adding the storage options. The R6 allowed me to get a beter lens with the camera (RF 24-70 f2.8 IS USM). Still blown away by the possibilities. Tried an adapted EF 135 f/2 USM in the middle of the night at ISO 25600 and 1/15 of a second. Handheld. That gives a usable image. This should not be possible. Looking forward to landscape photography using moonlight.
Yeah, but only 20 MP. Kinda puts a limit on cropping photos when you need to edit. The R6 should've been a 26-30 MP camera. Canon always has to do something stupid...
@@acupunctuur_Vlaanderen If you can afford it, get the RF version. The adapter is not bad, but the adapted result gives a very front-heavy lens. And I find changing the lens with the adapter a little more of a hassle. On the other hand, if you can get a 'bargain' EF 24-70 II, then it is certainly an option. I can't afford to replace all glass at once, so the adapter is great to have.
I purchased an R6 and returned it for the R5. The R5 simply permitted deeper cropping (I know you don't really like cropping Jared). I enjoy shooting wildlife and the extra resolution does come in handy for bird photography. I agree that both are great cameras and both work better with EF lens than any of my old EF bodies.
Full time pro here - shoot weddings, portraits, headshots, sports, etc. I totally came to the same conclusion. I have an R5 and it rocks for what I do and I do love the liberty I have in cropping. When you are shooting on the go, the freedom to crop in is wonderful. Particularly in sports when you want to get real close to the action to show the intensity but the action is unpredictable so you really need to shoot wider than the point of action in order to capture when they do unexpected moves.
Upgraded from the 6D Mark II to the R6. It removes so many little headaches from shooting on a DSLR. Adapting EF glass is seamless, like he said. When I phase out the R6 to being my second body, I’ll likely go with the R5 as a main (portrait shooter). Although the new R5c is looking like an interesting option.
@@elipacker3932 On the photo side the biggest for me was stills rate and eye detect AF, on the video it was getting closer to a no-crop 4k. And love having the weather sealing for my personal shooting. I still use the RP with the 50 or 35 if I want to walk around with something small. I was shooting paid stuff on the side before getting it, and pulled the trigger as I tried a year of full time creative freelancing. Currently back to a job and side shooting. Imo, if you're "looking" for reasons, or wrestling to justify the cost, stay put and continue to mull it over. A big part of my decision was to make sure I had a backup for an increased number of shoots. If I never took a run at full time I probably would have gone with a lens and stayed with one body.

R3: Jazz, Classic etc. concerts, weddings, specially in the church, the noiseless rolling shutter free stacked sensor makes you best friend of musicians and priests. That camera is awesome. I’ll wait for the R1 being released and may than select amongst a lot of cheap used R3s, many of them purchased by hobbyists, doctors or lawyers and for that being almost unused and like new☺️
I love the R3. Got the first one on Black Friday. I’m a full time pro and for what I shoot the R3 rocks. But I’m all for whatever is best for the photographer. Thanks for your thoughts Jared.

Thanks for the review; Passed on the R5, as i live down under and it gets Hot down 🔥 here. So didn't want to have the hassle of overheating. So ordered the R3 on this basis. Looked at the R5C, with the grip, (if it fits, had conflicting info from Canon) was getting close to the R3 price and the R3 still kills it on battery life, compared to the R5 with the grip. So no brainer for temp and pricing here in Oz.

Pretty simple. If you are going to be making money shooting sports or other fast action, go with the R3. If you are primarily going to be shooting sweeping landscapes and fine art, the R5 is for you. If you are an everyday photographer, shoot a little bit of everything, wildlife, family outings etc, you can't go wrong with an R6.
I agree with you. Bird Photography is my passion, Weddings pay the bills. The R5 is fantastic for weddings. I was pleasantly surprised at how good it was for birds. I got rid of my 7D II and I thought that would never happen. Reliable autofocus and speed. High keeper rate. Beautiful images even with heavy crop on small birds.
I did the same and got rid of the 1D3, 5D3 and 7D2 because the R5 is all 3 of those cameras in 1 for me. No more choosing which camera to take. I just take the R5.
I've been doing a lot of sports photography with the R6 and DSLR glass at the University of Maine. Until the price of RF glass comes down, I'll continue to do this. I'm constantly impressed by the quality of photos and videos I'm getting out of the R6. As much as I'd like to go to the R5, I also do a fair amount of shooting in gymnasiums and I've found it works very well in low light situations. If anyone has a spare R3 kicking around, I'm happy to trial that out for you, haha!
3:50 In all fairness: who needs a * checks notes * "smart controller" if the LCD screen of the R5 and R6 function as a touchpad for AF point select as well?
The smart controller might be easier to reach than the screen. At least for smaller hands like I have. And the controller is in a pretty natural spot. In the end, I like to have choice.
Had my R5 for a little over a year and it's easily the best camera I've used. I got it because it was a all round workhorse and it's handled everything I've thrown at it

😄I got the R5 w/grip and 28-70mm f2.0 lens for shooting weddings-n-stuff. What I like the most of about the R5 is the 45 MP sensor is that I can crop to 18 MP and still have a great image. This is an advantage as I don't need to pull out a 70-200mm f2.8 lens as with cropping, it's like using that lens. When you are in a hurry, switching lenses takes time and risking missing a shot. I also have the advantage of no longer needing to have TWO cameras at my side. Though I do have a backup just in case my R5 dies for what ever reason. There was a time my R5 completely froze and I had to turn it off and pull out the battery. Basicly rebooted it, then it was fine. I have been thinking of buying an R6 as a backup or use it for video but my old DSLR still works fine as a backup and I get to use my old EF lenses with it. I have no interest for the R3. I wish it had at least a 45 MP sensor. I think I'll just wait for the R1 to come out and get that. I'm pretty sure it's going to be at least 45 MP or more. I would be happy if it did 80 or 90 MP. My mind would be blown away if it did 100 or 150 MP. That would compete with a Phase One camera which cost around $50,000. Resolution like that would be for doing a tall billboard on the side of a building. If the R1 had all the features of the R3 and had a 90 MP sensor, I would just say, "Take my money now!" 🤣
At 0:38 is looks as if there is a piece attached to the bottom of the camera that makes it bigger. What is the purpose of that? Is it just an extra grip?
I have the R5 and R6 and I love them both. One of the places I shoot is our local racetrack, I tend to use the R5 during the daytime portion of the day and the R6 when it gets dark because it just seems to do better in the lower light. If I could only have one though, it would be the R5.
#gotthisfar After a lot of thought I went for the R5. As a nature photographer, the ability to crop into my shots made the decision easy. It's an amazing piece of kit. I was worried about battery life but on some shoots I have had well over 1000 shots on one battery. No complaints there! I have only one gripe which is that the electronic shutter only shoots in 20fps. The fact that it's silent is great for nature but 20fps can fill the card and PC too fast. A 5fps option would be nice and surely an easy thing for Canon to do in firmware. Mind you, 20FPS is amazing!
I shoot weddings, I upgraded to R6 from 5D IV. R6 is better overall, and you pay less for more. The only thing i miss from the 5D IV is the resolution sometimes, but its not a deal breaker since i'm not cropping, but those compressed CR3 saves much more space in the hard drives. So a resolution compromise for so many goodies is actually a pretty nice deal.
@@BradRamanah i got the R6 after owning the 70D and then 90D previously. There is a noticeable bump in image quality despite the 90D already being excelent in that department. The biggest difference is the autofocus which you should take some time to actually learn because it can do some great things when mastered. The R5 is quite an expensive proposition and unless you need the 45MPs is not worth going for. Base video looks better on the R6 and if video IS your thing just get the R5C.
@@axelfiraxa Video is primarily my thing so I'll have to do some additional research but thanks for the insight. The regular R5 is tempting because I can't see myself justifying paying an extra $600 (canadian) but we'll see what happens. Looking to pick it up possibly this summer but definitely before next year
Great video as always Jared. I take photographs as a hobby and already own an R6 and was contemplating upgrading to an R5. Jared gave me a good piece of advice and mentioned to consider spending the $1400 difference on good glass. While not mentioned here, I think that is something to consider for someone looking at upgrading. As a hobbyist, if you can get past the lower megapixels, I thinks it makes more sense to go with a R6 with something like a RF 70-200 F4 for about the same price as an R5 body. #gotthisfar

I am using R5 for three months after 6D mark ii and i can say it's really fantastic. Took me to another level. AF and lots of focus points are amazing (especially after the stupid focus coverage area of 6dmii).
#gotthisfar I purchased the R6 when the R5-R6 first came out. It took me almost a month to decide between the two. My last camera was the Canon 10D which was current when I purchased it. The reason why it took me so long, is because I wanted the larger sensor, but I had an issue spending that much money. I watched a lot of comparison videos between the two,k and it came down to price in the end. I am just a hobby photographer, and even though I had the money for the R5, I went with the R6 because of price. I also purchased the grip because I have big hands and the grip makes it easier to hold and easier to carry around. I have been very happy with the R6 and never looked back.
I'm looking at getting back into photography after many years, I started in the film days. So your videos, this one in particular was of great help to me. Keep up the great work.
I've had my R5 for 16 months and I'm using it for BIF and wildlife. Even with an adapted 9 year old EF600mm f4 mk2 plus a 1.4x mk 3 tele the AF is superb and I'd venture to say slightly quicker than on my old 5D4. I have the RF800mm F11 as well and it's outrageously good for the price. As for rolling shutter, it's not something that has caused me a problem so far as I shoot at f5.6 for BIF and the background is blurred out anyhow. I've not had any occasion to switch to mech shutter so far. I've not seen anything at the R5's price point that comes close to its capabilities.
I'm leaning toward R5 and I hope a fw update would bring vehicle tracking. I'm just a hobbiest but like to shoot F1 and Moto go. Would love to see the eye tracking in the R5 has I have extremely poor vision.
The last firmware update v.1.5 included vehicle AF. Eye-controlled AF requires hardware that the R5 doesn't have. But the AF is otherwise brilliant. Run, don't walk, to your camera dealer!
@@romainprovost7164 you're confusing eye control AF with eye detection AF, which is completely different. I assumed the O.P. was referring to the former, which may have been my mistake. The R3 has infrared sensors within the EVF that track your eye movements. That's how it knows where you're looking, so it can move the AF point appropriately. You have to calibrate those sensors to track your individual eye. The R5's EVF has no such tracking sensors. Thus it cannot have eye-control AF. Obviously, it has not only eye DETECTION autofocus, but vehicle detection now too.

R6 and Rp working well for me, if you can’t get a good shot with either of these the camera ain’t the problem! Been following Jarod since my interest in photography began. I’m in a place where I now understand the camera body is only really changing your settings to the lens and timing your shot to snag the photo or not. Some of my best shots are with simpler camera bodies paired with good glass. I do notice the difference between my r6 and rp yet the rp had produced some of my best photos.
@@elipacker3932 yeah sure they’re different and of course I prefer the r6 but it comes at a price. Yet the images out of the rp are very good, also quite like the rp with the small grip thing, things I notice are the evf quality when switching between cameras, I just know images will look better back on the computer than they look in camera with the rp. You can get a good lens for the difference in price.
I love my R5 for wildlife photography not having the luxury of being able to 'just get closer' means the 45MP come in to play on post edit. R5 with my 300 F2.8 and 2X TC is just awesome to use.
I ain't watched yiur vids in a while.. i remember you used to bag on Canon for a lot of dumb reasons, and you were right. To hear your tune today was an eye opener.👍👍
I was with you except giving a check on versatility / video to R5. I’d have to suggest needing to have a solution when shooting at length takes the check mark away. I’d have either given the all a check, or no check. But that’s just me and my money speaking.

This was a great comparison. After watching this I know can say unequivocally that I still don't know which one I want to upgrade to! (Not the fault of this review). By the way, I know this is a nit, but at around 19:57-ish in the video, your graphic indicates that the R3 has a "Full HDMI Port" but earlier you stated that it has a Micro HDMI Port. I know it's just a typo but thought I'd mention it.
well, the 12fps ( at least on the R6) come with 'exclusions : battery more than 50% full, certain EF lenses only, shutter speed minimum 1/1000 etc etc. Still Canon did a fantastic job and the R6 for sports photography and general use. I sold my 6D MKII because the R6 can do what the 6D MKII did without the grip. Wireless ftp transfer on the R6 is available and is it more stable than the 1Dx MKII wireless transmitter! The high ISO and AF speed on the R6 are amazing!!! So unless one does landscapes and needs the very fine detail of a 45mpx sensor the R6 is the overall best value for money mirrorless Canon camera.
Yup. I am happy with how many of the features in the R5 are also available in the R6. Historically Canon has shown the 6-series cameras no love. Not this time. The R6 is great value for money.
outstanding Jared! Great stuff! I agree with you 100% about the camera to go is R5. I have been using the R5 for almost a year, majorly on Waterphotography ( Lens EF 8-15mm, RF 16mm, RF 50 mm, RF 24-105mm and Samyang RF 14mm) using Aquatech Edge Housing, and the results are phenomenal! Also I have been using the R3 for surfing photography (Lens RF 800mm and Sigma EF 150-600mm) and the 30fps are killer, unreal the speed and the quality of the photos, I couldn't be more happy with this two setup. But the R3 is not a camera for everyone, I do miss the 45mp for some of the crop some time I need to do. As we say, first world problem.... any of this cameras you will be a happy chap.
I love my r5 so much. It's been the perfect camera for me and it's always by my side even while driving and at restaurants. Any cam that makes you love shooting is a fantastic camera. Though fro budget minded people, the eos r and rp can produce fantastic results too

Thanks for the great video. I almost forgot (actually I did), my R5 takes 12bit RAW only with ES at 20fps. I had done some setting changes after watching this video. I'd returned back to MS and EFCS in some condition, especially low light environment. My photos from 14bit/13bit are really noticeably better than 12bit. Thanks this video for remind me the basic of the camera. We always study the new toy well when we just get it and forget it eventually in the river of time. We have to know and keep knowing our tools well in order to use it better.
I went with the R6 a few months ago… before seeing this video… I am very happy with the 6…:I am thinking about adding another camera to my stable… I was thinking about the R3… but… after seeing this, I am seriously thinking about the 5. Thank you!
Just got the R3 and 1DMk3.... love the mark 3, and will see how the R3 works out. Love the additional features and am super excited to use the ef converter
I'm a hobbyist photographer/videographer who upgraded from a 6D to an R6. WOW! I've hardly taken any photo but the video is superb especially the auto focus. Great comparison Jared.
I am considering going ML. However I am a Nikon shooter with so many lenses. I thought this video was first class. I learn more about Canon ML watching this video then at any other time. Thanks for all the info you presented.
@@mikebennett8966 I’d rather have another R5 because I don’t use the R6 much because of the smaller megapixel size. I just love the ability to crop in closer during post if I need to.
@@themjian I’ve never had to repair any button or stick on any camera I own. (All Canon, Some have been used 1000s of times over the course of 15+ years) An optical sensor will get scratched over time and eventually become less accurate, with the countless focus points I can see a less accurate mechanism becoming a hindrance. Only time will tell, I hope the glass portion is sapphire like the Apple Watch or something because the standard screen glass would not hold up under constant usage. With the build quality of Canon only going down in recent years it wouldn’t surprise me if they cut corners with this. This camera is MADE for intelligent auto focus so it probably won’t even matter if it’s less accurate.
Looking to upgrade from an EOS 7D Mk2, and this has proven very helpful...except that every one of those cameras is SO tempting for different reasons. I do landscape and astrophotography, I do wildlife, motorsports and I do aviation. I don't do weddings and I don't do portraits. I'm a keen amateur not a top of the line professional. So what's next? #GOTTHISFAR i LOVE THE DETAIL OF YOUR REVIEWS. I plan on making the jump to light speed and moving from Mirror to Mirrorless. With this video I've decided to go with the R-5 as I will use the money saved between R-3 and R-5 to buy a new lens! Thanks Fro. YOU DO KNOW PHOTOS!
As always Great Job. I have the R5 for Bird photography and Wedding/Events. Having the larger sensor is great for the cropping you have to do with small Warblers and songbirds. All of the cameras are good but it is the lenses that keeps me with canon. RF-28-70 f2.0 is truly a great lens. It has character like some of the pricey glass from brand L.
Great video. I own the R5 and love it. Though randomly it won't auto-focus. I have to turn the camera on, then turn it back on. Almost seems like re-booting a computer. Maybe I need a software upgrade? My Firmware is Ver. 1.2.0.
I had the same "debate" considering the camera to buy (my 10 years old 7D AF was not "giving it" in tracking fast moving objects and it was time to upgrade to dual pixel AF anyway), the R5 has much more MP than the R6 and video is not my thing anyway... The advantage of the R3 (mainly the GPS) are not enough to make the difference. I have to say that in many of the parameters, these cameras are almost the same, so the main point that made my choice was the 45MP sensor. The only thing I wish the R5 to have is GPS (the GPS on the app is not as consistent as I wanted it to be).
My 1DX crapped out in the middle of a Burlesque show shoot a few days ago. It was the rehearsal so it wasn't a huge deal. However, the real show that i'm shooting is 5 days away! Because I have the 1DX I went right to the R3 because I shoot mostly sports. Pro Motocross to be exact. After researching the differences between the R3 and R5, i'm leaning hard into the R5. Photography is my hobby, not my career. It looks like the R5 will suit me just fine and save me some cash. Plus I'll have another camera that takes the same batteries as my 7D MKll. Thank you for this video, it is exactly what I needed!
As you say it depends, I got the R5 to replace my 5D4 because it’s a good all rounder for a hybrid shooter like me who doesn’t do sport but most other genres. While I have the usual suspects in RF glass the adapter lets me use a 16 year collection of L series glass without need for re-investing. In the real world for my kind of shooting I’ve never seen an overheating problem or the corner IBIS jitters with video and very (14mm) wide angle lens some people report. Finally on the subject of moving from video on a DSLR to Mirrorless what a joy the EVF is outside, I was totally turned off to these when a friend showed me their Fuji perhaps 12 years ago, things have improved unbelievably.
I purchased a 6D2 in late 2018 which for me was not a long time ago because I have not had much time to shoot with it because my kids were born roughly about the same time as I got the camera. But I still had a list of lenses I wanted to get for it. This included the EF50mm 1.2 and a Sigma 14-24mm lens for a wide angle for FF. My issue would be if I even thought about going into a R camera (which would be the R6 most likely), I would then instead just buy the lenses for that system. I hate the idea that the EF system is dead already.
Hi Jared, I am not a professional photographer, just a regular dad. I own a RP and I am super happy with it. I understand that the RP might not be a real option for you guys but concerning taking pictures of my family it totally gets the job done, is significantly cheaper, compact, and has got 26MP. The missing/hidden silent mode, however, is indeed disappointing as e.g. the sound can distract kids from playing. I have gained some experience over the years, shoot raw and in manual mode nowadays, and own some RF L glass. I would thus be interested also in content for people like me who are neither professionals nor "JPG point and shoot". However, I enjoy your videos a lot, so thanks a lot for all the efford you put into all the testing / explaining / comparing (including Canon's RP)!

#gotthisfar As an underwater shooter, the R3’s battery capacity is what is giving it the edge over the R5. Sadly, housings for the R5 won’t accommodate the additional grip.
#gotthisfar. It is perfectly reasonable to get the R6 and some extra RF glass. I have an R5, and EF glass works great, but I struggle to purchase RF glass. It is not a bad plan to buy the R6 today, and a R5 mark II in the future.
What is The R and RP? Matter of fact, what is the best ultimate camera ever? I’m a Sony A1 guy btw. Forget budget, I just want to know the best camera (FACTUALLY).
I mostly shoot fast paced modelsports so the R3 is the better camera for me, however I am not a pro so I will probably continue to use my 7Dii for the next 10 years or so till the R1ii comes out and a used R3 becomes affordable to me.
I did research, read so many reviews, watched so many videos and Jared's videos put it in the most realistic real world expectations for what I wanted to do. Definitely have no regrets for my choice.
#gotthisfar. Great video Jared! I’ve watched and rewatched it several times. I switched to the Canon R6 from a Sony A7Rii. I liked the R6, but missed the cropping I could do with the 42MP 7Rii. I shot a little better of everything. The 7Rii literally went around the world with me in my first couple years of retirement. I got great shots and with 42MP could crop as much as I wanted. My problem, I couldn’t deny my friends shooting with Canon got way better color straight out of camera so, I picked up the R6, but missed being able to crop. I picked up the R5 and it’s been prefect for me. I shot a lot of sports from the stands, particularly tennis and have shots from the recent Miami Open shot with the R5 and RF 70-200mm f4, that are outstanding. For the crop factor, better color and amazing AF I’m sticking with the R5, although I admit to just upgrading to the RF 70-200mm f2.8.
The R3 is a placeholder for the R1. It's hard to imagine both cameras in the same space. Anyway, as an R5 and R6 owner, I should be set for the next 5 years at least.
the R1 must eventually have a 45MP Sensor, 8k120 video and decent in-camera software (e.g. real-time panorama stitching). everything else will mean no big differentiation
Might be a place holder for you but as a sports photographer who makes money shooting pro but not making mega bank I’d rather right now invest in 2 or 3 R3’s and save 2k per camera as the R1 with a 8.5k price tag isn’t in everyone’s budget. Don’t get me wrong though the specs on the R1 look out of this world. 85mp at 20fps global with 20mp at 40fps is like wow.
@@questt5 both the R3 and R1 are way out of my league and budget. I didn't mean placeholder for me, but within Canon's camera hierarchy. Will they push sales for the R3 after they launch the R1, when they won't even acknowledge the R3 as their current flagship now? I also doubt the R1 will exceed $7K, thanks to Nikon undercutting everyone with the Z9.
I love you for puting the grips on the other 2. I use all mu Canon aps-c cameras with grips and it is awsome this comparison because I want the R6 so bad
Strange. In the side-by-side views in the video of the vertical grip on the R6 sure looks different than the one on the R5, but I can't find any reference to it being different online. Ref: 2:36/38:43
I have a Z7 with Z lenses, but after i've watched so many videos about the Canon R5\6 made the decision to change. Im gonna go with the R5.I'll wait till the mark 2 version come out next spring\summer to save even more but im gonna change for sure!
#GotThisFar and thank you for the time you put into your videos. Did you lose a bet to Peter? That shout out; however perfectly timed...was kinda random. Both of you guys are awesome and the collective "photo recognition video" that everyone did was dope as well. Saving for a R5 but I believe my lady is planning to spring it on me. Wasn't sure how far I was gonna be able to go with the saving once I hit my goal but, I'm definitely stopping with the R5. I crop a lot...
Im a Nikon hybrid shooter - I'd have gone for the R6 but it has no photo/video switch to save previous settings. So for hybrid work its not operationally fast enough. Im sure Canon will add this in the version 2.
Hey Jared, been following you for years now and I've to say that this is the most detailed camera comparison I ever saw. A small request though, could you please review some older Canon DSLR's like the 30D or 40D or 50D, etc about how they hold up today. I'm pretty sure a lot of people would love to watch such videos, if you could kindly make that happen.
I would choose 70D rather than those three you named. Great for begginers in photo/video. Trust me... I had 60D and i wish i had money for 70D because of dual pixel autofocus... Nowadays is cheap and you can find between 300-400$
@@hipsterise I totally agree. But I'm curious to know how well these old DSLR's hold up now in 2022. Because if you look around there are a ton of people who are still using an EOS 10D. And now talking about 70D, I would say that yes it still holds it's ground super strong even now in 2022 because it's Dual Pixel technology is bang on amazing.
@@LuisPerez-fy6up There may be an R1. There is no way in hell that anyone would be unsure whether to get an R6 or R1. I estimate that you will be able to buy three R6's for the price of one R1.
Super vidéo, merci pour le comparatif, Je voudrais avoir votre expertise pour le choix de deux boîtiers : 1_ Un canon R5 et un R6 ou 2_ deux boîtier canon R6 ?
Depending on how you set your R5 or R6, you can actually take the ISO as low as 50. I shoot with the R6 in manual mode and I can set my ISO as low as ISO50. It'll show on the screen as "L".
Thanks for your great sharing .
i was thinking about that exact comment. but i figure the R5 vs R5c is just that the 5C is more suited for video
Instead of fantastic, use "epic, unreal, unbelievable, amazeballs as we say in Ireland 🙈🤣
Maybe you could do your favorite Rf L series lenses.
@@CC-hg9un true such a big let down. Canon cripple hammer.
@@CC-hg9un yep, with you there. If it had been 28 mp plus I would not have changed to Sony. I love Canon gear but A74 is better spec for same price
@@CC-hg9un Not when shooting sports.
R6 for a year, still loving it. If you're coming from the RP it will be a big upgrade on both the photo and video side.
Still running my RP now fun camera but definitely growing out of it especially shooting sports
If I may ask, what upgrades? I am considerting upgrading to R6, but still looking for good enough reasons (as a non-professional photographer).

Passed on the R5, as i live down under and it gets Hot down 🔥 here.

I enjoyed watching this video. Your review confirmed that my purchase of the R6 was the best camera for me. I still have my “R” as my backup camera.
Is there lag with the non-optical viewfinder in the mirrorless? Say you're shooting fast- moving warblers in flight; is there noticeable lag?
I rock an R6 with the 28-70 f2 almost exclusively. Got that body over the R5 due to price. I don't regret it. Great camera, great lens 👊🏻💥🔥
Just bought the R5. Thanks, Saint Jared.👍🏼
I got it because it was a all round workhorse and it's handled everything I've thrown at it
But weak battery :( How many battery have you bought ?

I always get all the way through yoru vids, love you work. Went with 3 R5s, I shoot two for weddings and one is backup
If the R1 had all the features of the R3 and had a 90 MP sensor, I would just say, "Take my money now!" 🤣
I had more than once instance where the R5 froze. I've had seven instances!!!
@@kelb89 Have you updated the firmware to version 1.5?
At 0:38 is looks as if there is a piece attached to the bottom of the camera that makes it bigger. What is the purpose of that? Is it just an extra grip?
I have the R5 and R6 and I love them both. One of the places I shoot is our local racetrack, I tend to use the R5 during the daytime portion of the day and the R6 when it gets dark because it just seems to do better in the lower light. If I could only have one though, it would be the R5.
Lower megapixel cameras generally shoot better in low light. That’s why the R3 like it’s 1dx predecessors didn’t have crazy high megapixel
So a resolution compromise for so many goodies is actually a pretty nice deal.
my R5 was delivered yesterday, need a day out with it but its a nice upgrade over my old 1300D...
Had R6, but upgraded for R5 for more features and resolution. Very happy using either of those, amazing cameras. #GotThisFar

@@TigaWould Thanks for the insight Anthony, do you have an R5? I'm upgrading from an 80D
Good luck on your new purchase my friend 👏👏

Great video as always Jared. I take photographs as a hobby and already own an R6 and was contemplating upgrading to an R5. Jared gave me a good piece of advice and mentioned to consider spending the $1400 difference on good glass. While not mentioned here, I think that is something to consider for someone looking at upgrading. As a hobbyist, if you can get past the lower megapixels, I thinks it makes more sense to go with a R6 with something like a RF 70-200 F4 for about the same price as an R5 body. #gotthisfar

I purchased the R6 when the R5-R6 first came out.
I got the R6 in November with the 24-105L, 35mm 1.8; and the ef/ef-s converter and love this camera. I came from a 5D mkIi and 70D.
Jeremy Parr this is awesome info as I am looking to buy a new camera in the near feature so I will know which one to get thank you Jared

Just picked up a refurbished R5 from canon. Couldn't be more pleased.
@@JohnDrummondPhoto That’s not true, the Canon R5 is capable and also benefits from the AF on vehicles and motorcycle helmets!

So does the difference between R6 and RP are really noticable for a guy who does photography just for the fun?
@@elipacker3932 yeah sure they’re different and of course I prefer the r6 but it comes at a price. Yet the images out of the rp are very good, also quite like the rp with the small grip thing, things I notice are the evf quality when switching between cameras, I just know images will look better back on the computer than they look in camera with the rp. You can get a good lens for the difference in price.

I went for the R6, thanks a lot for sharing your experience !!
I am never disappointed with the image files both my R and R6 deliver.
The actual pictures I force them to capture on the other hand 🙂
well, the 12fps ( at least on the R6) come with 'exclusions : battery more than 50% full, certain EF lenses only, shutter speed minimum 1/1000 etc etc.
So curious how the ‘smart controller’ will hold up over time vs the analog sticks.
Just imagine the touchpad on a blackberry compares to the rolling ball on an old blackberry or nokia 7650 joystick
Probably would last longer due to less mechanical movements and cheaper to repair, due to simply swap out finger sensor unit.
Looking to upgrade from an EOS 7D Mk2, and this has proven very helpful...except that every one of those cameras is SO tempting for different reasons. i LOVE THE DETAIL OF YOUR REVIEWS.
Have you gotten to personally compare this to the 2.8? I'm just a curious pixel peeper!
Thanks Jared, I was just doing this comparison last night, great video!!!
Thanks Jared!. Is the IBIS just as effective on EF glass with and without IS? Compared to RF glass with and without IS.
I am selling the canon R3 for just $3500.
Send an email or reply to my comment if interested and I’ll ship it to you. First person to reply gets it for $3000
#Gotthisfar, I'll be picking up the R3, for dance photography in low/questionable lighting situations and the added benefit of the better silent shooting capabilities

Great video as usual Fro. As a result of this video I have just traded my 5D4 in for an R5. Thanks 👍🏽
Picking up the R6 with the RF 24-105 USM lens at the end of the month.
What is The R and RP? Matter of fact, what is the best ultimate camera ever? I’m a Sony A1 guy btw. Forget budget, I just want to know the best camera (FACTUALLY).
Ótimo vídeo! Quando você acha que a R1 será lançada?
Ione of the moments i love the big buffer is for speed ice climbing. If youre with a zoom on the top you'll catch some amazing moments
I mostly shoot fast paced modelsports so the R3 is the better camera for me, however I am not a pro so I will probably continue to use my 7Dii for the next 10 years or so till the R1ii comes out and a used R3 becomes affordable to me.
Got this far. Fantastic video thinking about R5 too compliment my 5d mark iv
Thanks
I did research, read so many reviews, watched so many videos and Jared's videos put it in the most realistic real world expectations for what I wanted to do. Definitely have no regrets for my choice.
Which camera did you go for?
@@electrom4gnetik465 Canon R6
Team R6. Just made a video about it. It's a condensed 1DX Mark III in a mirrorless package.
@@DerDepp2 the R1 is rumored to have 85mp
@@questt5 both the R3 and R1 are way out of my league and budget. I didn't mean placeholder for me, but within Canon's camera hierarchy. Will they push sales for the R3 after they launch the R1, when they won't even acknowledge the R3 as their current flagship now? I also doubt the R1 will exceed $7K, thanks to Nikon undercutting everyone with the Z9.
@@JohnDrummondPhoto I’ve been scouring the web now for price leaks cause of this. And your right more price points lean towards 6,500.
I accidentally put the WFT grip thats meant for the R5 on the R6 before filming. It attaches but doesn’t power on so just disregard that (my fault!)
I am selling the canon R3 for just $3500.

#GotThisFar! R5 for me then! Although I do very much like the eye-AF, just as something cool to play with!

R6 will be my next upgrade- I just need to pull the trigger on the buy button. Nice video as expected. Congrats
Wait new cameras coming this year
@@LuisPerez-fy6up There may be an R1. There is no way in hell that anyone would be unsure whether to get an R6 or R1. I estimate that you will be able to buy three R6's for the price of one R1.
Well - i will put the “button” down :))) we will see!
Nice video! One year with R6 and happy, I kept money for lenses! 24-105L is my very versatile lens cap :-)
Super vidéo, merci pour le comparatif, Je voudrais avoir votre expertise pour le choix de deux boîtiers : 1_
Un canon R5 et un R6 ou 2_ deux boîtier canon R6 ?
Depending on how you set your R5 or R6, you can actually take the ISO as low as 50. I shoot with the R6 in manual mode and I can set my ISO as low as ISO50. It'll show on the screen as "L".
