I took my Canon Rebel T8i back to Best Buy today and exchanged it for the A6400, mostly because of your advice so I thank you since I am convinced I will absolutely love it. I'm a scuba diver so I've been stuck on the GoPro Hero for the past 5 years since I first went scuba diving, but decided it wasn't going to cut it now that I am going to be utilizing my Adobe Premiere abilities to make my own music videos and I had loved the Canon Rebel my friends had a decade back. Not knowing they cropped the sides in 4K. But it took ordering a DJI RSC 2 and the Rebel T8i not being listed in the compatibility section to get me to pull the trigger within my return timeframe. So thanks again for helping me make the (right) decision!
@@emmanuelbarboza7347 what will you be doing with it? filmmaking? photography? if you're a full time and wanna be a filmmaker get the Gh5 Panasonic, it blows both a6400 and the A7iii with IBIS and 4k/60fps. if you're hybrid then a7iii is not a bad option but you don't have that sweet versatile flip screen nor that 4k/60fps.

Is there a noticeable difference between field of view between APS-C and full frame? I need to get full body shots and it seems like it would be easier with full frame, but not sure if it's worth the difference in cost. Thanks!
If you look closely the a6400 focus on the background during the audio test. His face is slightly out of focus where the background is sharp. Whereas the a7iii nailed focus on his face and the background is slightly out of focus. Not sure what settings he is using and if the is typical behavior of the camera just pointing it out. I have both cameras but found out that their colors are different...with the same exact settings the colors turn out different that is...A7iii needs to shift white balance to warmer or a6400 to cooler...did you find the same problem?
I have both, I bought the a7 III first and after 2 years of sitting on the shelf I bought the a6400 and carry it with me all the time. The A7 III is great, but it's big and heavy. The A6400 fits in your pocket and does the same service. I've wanted a full frame all my life and when I have one I'm too lazy to wear it. Definitely the A6400 for me.

I am using the Sony A6400 together with a Sony 100-400mm 4.5-5.6. And this combo brings you effectively to 600mm 5.6. - at 24MP. am deeply into Wildlife and this helps me really a lot, the images are sharp and the Autofocus (both acquisition and tracking) is simply mind blowing. If I put my Sony A9 on the same lens I have to crop bringing me down to 10MP only when having the same FOW as with the Sony A6400. So for me the A6400 is a great addition to my Full Frame combo for Wildlife.
I agree, if you don't need full frame, the a6400 with the f1.4's can do a lot! I know some Fuji pros and their work looks incredible APS-C wise. The a6400 is a baby a7iii without IBIS and weather sealing.

Hey there everydaydad and everyone. I'll start off by saying that I already got the a6400, yes it's impressive, only a matter of choosing the correct lenses now and a FEW OTHER knick knacks.....(few other - pun intended). I noticed in this video that during the 'mic' field test, the a6400 couldn't focus on the subject, rather it did on the background. The a73 quickly adjusted it's focus. Should this be considered a problem or is it 'that one unlucky time' it happens? Maybe even the wrong settings.
For anyone considering this camera the overheating issue has NOT been resolved. I upgraded my a6300 because I was told the a6400 does not overheat that is a LIE. The a6400 WILL overheat which happened to me during a gig where I had to record 12 minutes continuously outside in the shade! My a6400 turned off after 5 minutes and 12 seconds the client was beyond furious as this was a one tale type of deal for a product. If you’re inside AC doing TH-cam videos great but if you’re thinking about using this for professional work get the a7iii the bigger body handles heat MUCH better. I have since sold my a6400, just food for thought.
Brother been off the grid for a bit with TH-cam due to my new business but man this was useful! I have had my hands on every alpha since a5000. The 6400 should have been my first! Unfortunately I have an A7III and the rx100MV, which combined on a shoot they are top notch. The IBIS saves me though when slick shooting on the road. Great review
The Everyday Dad I actually got so pumped after your video that I went to Best Buy and got the body for around $850. I’m so impressed with this little beast. I shot some test footage of my anime figures in 4K 24/30fps and even without IBIS I had better performance than my A7III in 24fps with panning judder. Paired with the Sony Sonnar T E 24mm F1.8 ZA Lens it’s a dream on a gimbal
For photography you can't really put them against each other. If you're a pro that wants a full-frame look, only full-frame will do. If you're not a pro, and just want a great camera, then you'll do well with an a6400. That being said I know pros who shoot video and stills with lesser cameras.
The a7iii has Ibis... And the best lens for Sony Apsc (Sigma lenses) doesn't have oss. It's pretty important on video, low light photography and long expo shots.

The picture quality (especially in 1080p) is night and day, A7 iii has a pro-quality not seen in my a6600 or a6400... regardless of compression, you can see there’s a clear difference in TH-cam projects A6400 vs A7iii.. I would upgrade but the A7 IV is so close

It's weird but true that you can't find a compare VDO for A73 with A6400. Thanks for making this :D if you don't mind please make another one regarding photography capability. Many people mention about the color science that's been upgraded from A6300. So I would like to see if there is a significant changes there. Cheers!
The color in the a6400 and A7III are now the same if you plan to use out of camera color. As far as photography, the only decision you need to make is whether you want the full frame look, take full advantage of full frame lenses, or carry all that bigger full-frame gear. Dynamic range, and low light arguments when you're likely shooting RAW are a bit moot.
I happen to have both. The A7iii is HEAVY compared to the a6xxx series. I use the A7iii more for photography, or if I’m going to do tripod style videos all day (better battery life). But for walk around, vlog, and just almost anything else, the a6400 size is just better and easier to use. I’m definitely considering selling the a7iii now that I finally got the a6400. Hmmmmm....
Daniel Constant I like the a7iii mostly for its bigger size, speed, buttons and other features for photography especially for event or music/band photos. Image quality between the two is close enough for me, but the a7iii has the edge in low light. I used a 6500 before and the photos were definitely acceptable for what I do. (Product photos for small company, for web and basic small prints for brochures etc). So the 6400 would work well enough too. But there is definitely “something” about the a7iii for non-controlled photog situations.
@@DanielConstant00 no prob. i actually took the a6400 to a shoot last night, live band, dark stage. technically the camera worked very well. but physically i immediately missed the range of controls on the A7iii. the few more buttons, ease of selecting focus points with the joystick, etc. once i got a workflow for the a6400, it was ok (figuring things out on the fly haha), but definitely a bit slower than the A7iii, and that's when you can miss shots for this situation. so yeah it's more the usability for fast-changing situations that the A7iii would be a better choice. for me with my opinion, of course.
What if I could get a brand new A73 for $1500 and I wanted to pair it with my other A73 for mostly interviews and video work? I'm thinking at some point they will release a firmware update that unlocks unlimited record times correct? Or would it be better to get the A6400? Full disclosure my wife has an A6400 for her blog but I do more professional work so I thought it would be good to have 2 matching cameras.

@@jeffb8824 the field of view is much smaller, but if you're shooting with a proper portrait focal length you need distance anyway.
The A7iii is twice the camera. Full frame, IBIS, better low light, better dynamic range.

Only thing about the a6400/6500 is the rolling shutter in video. One reason why I sold my 6500... otherwise it’s pretty good! Keep up the good work!

Which gimbal you suggest for a6400?
I don’t really use gimbals but any one that fits the weight. Don’t get too big of one because then you might have problems with it being too light.

I was torn between this and the a6500...mainly cause of IBIS...but I think I’ll get the a6400 since it’s cheaper and I can just use the difference towards the 18-105mm it a gimbal for cinematic shots
I need a camera for just photos and no video. I'm torn between the A6400 with some prime sigma lenses or A7iii with the Tamron 28-75. Which do I go for?
Full frame camera always better for photos. If u have the money buy the a7iii

a6400 couldn't have focused on you at the time 05:00... background was tack sharp... but a7iii did that job great...

It's weird but true that you can't find a compare VDO for A73 with A6400. Thanks for making this :D if you don't mind please make another one regarding photography capability. Many people mention about the color science that's been upgraded from A6300. So I would like to see if there is a significant changes there. Cheers!
The color in the a6400 and A7III are now the same if you plan to use out of camera color. As far as photography, the only decision you need to make is whether you want the full frame look, take full advantage of full frame lenses, or carry all that bigger full-frame gear. Dynamic range, and low light arguments when you're likely shooting RAW are a bit moot.

I happen to have both. The A7iii is HEAVY compared to the a6xxx series. I use the A7iii more for photography, or if I’m going to do tripod style videos all day (better battery life). But for walk around, vlog, and just almost anything else, the a6400 size is just better and easier to use. I’m definitely considering selling the a7iii now that I finally got the a6400. Hmmmmm....
So in the aspects that you use your A7iii for photography. Do you feel comfortable the A6400 is good enough to replace that
Daniel Constant I like the a7iii mostly for its bigger size, speed, buttons and other features for photography especially for event or music/band photos. Image quality between the two is close enough for me, but the a7iii has the edge in low light. I used a 6500 before and the photos were definitely acceptable for what I do. (Product photos for small company, for web and basic small prints for brochures etc). So the 6400 would work well enough too. But there is definitely “something” about the a7iii for non-controlled photog situations.

@@DanielConstant00 no prob. i actually took the a6400 to a shoot last night, live band, dark stage. technically the camera worked very well. but physically i immediately missed the range of controls on the A7iii. the few more buttons, ease of selecting focus points with the joystick, etc. once i got a workflow for the a6400, it was ok (figuring things out on the fly haha), but definitely a bit slower than the A7iii, and that's when you can miss shots for this situation. so yeah it's more the usability for fast-changing situations that the A7iii would be a better choice. for me with my opinion, of course.
How is the low light of the 6400? Compared to the lowlight of the A73?
What if I could get a brand new A73 for $1500 and I wanted to pair it with my other A73 for mostly interviews and video work? I'm thinking at some point they will release a firmware update that unlocks unlimited record times correct? Or would it be better to get the A6400? Full disclosure my wife has an A6400 for her blog but I do more professional work so I thought it would be good to have 2 matching cameras.
On the a6400 the video vlogging test was clearly out of focus 🤔
Yeah it was on a gh5 with manual focus. It’s not a test of the a6400 it’s just a shot of me walking around with it.
Should i worry about the a6400 Rolling shutter???
