This is not true at all. It has better skin tones and better auto focus than the A7iii. Especially those yellowish skin tones in difficult light situations make it difficult to correct for the A7iii. For video with HLG the colors are pretty much the same. So I would say the opposite is true.

They're so close in performance that it really just comes down to form factor. Personally, I picked up A7c and couldn't be happier. It's so small that I just hang it by my keys and grab it any time I head out into the city. Back to shooting daily 🙌
@@awillingvessel238 After a long time trying to get used to Sony I now know that my big hands needs better ergonomics and my creativity needs usability, so I will go back to where I came from 🙈 (Canon) I have never used a camera so little after I got that Sony, I pick my Panasonic instead every time, which is a cheap bridge camera with fantastic usability.
Best comparison of the cameras I've seen on youtube. I was considering the A7C since I got a great deal on the Tamron 28-75mm but I think it'll just stay with my A6500 until A7iv.
I've just sold an a7iii and picked up an A7C. I much prefer the evf on the very left edge of the body and mainly because the a7iii screen is a pain in the backside esp when shooting astro in portrait orientation at night. Which I do a lot of if not shoot all my landscape astro in portrait.
I’m not truly sold on the a7C, it’s basically the same price as the a7III but without the controls. I prefer the two dials, the extra programable buttons, the dual cards, the EVF in the middle, the screen works good enough. The a7C isn’t quite there. I have the a6600 which I use on a gimbal most of the time. And I wanted an APSC for the extra reach when out at the track, and it’s a great small camera to vacation with. (10-18, Sigma 16mm f1.4, and the Sony 35mm f1.8 are all pretty small and produce great street photos and video). Personally, I’m waiting for the a7IV hoping it will naturally pair with the a7SIII which I have coming soon. But in reality, they are all great cameras!!
@M Tech stupid to compare phones with cameras. Hahaha 4k 60p on mobile phones are like 10-20mbps only lmao cameras do it at 100-200mbps and sometimes even more
Smaller and lighter - win! Flippy screen and no giant viewfinder on top (making it a pain to take in and out of the camera bag) - win! Put a higher res sensor in there and make some light weight lenses to go with it and it's a guaranteed sale!
For me a7c is the best hybrid camera. Period. Even with the a7iv. The a7c is a camera you bring with you everywhere. My bag with two lens is very lightweight. Autofocus, photos and videos are very good. Gyro data for stabilization. Great low light performance. Animal eye af for photos. Eye af for video and photos for human. Reasonable price. I like the small evf on the left side. The door plugs very solid. Tamron 17-28 and 70-300 with a7c are formidable camera kit sets
this is really helpfull. A7c is my go to. I'm gonna use it 80% of the time for video work. i had the a6400 before. planning to upgrade, a7Siii way too overkill for my needs, and a7c i really need that versatile flip screen. thanks alot!
The only advantage for the a7c is how small it is. You can bring it anywhere without having a bigger separate bag bringing with you. A7iii on the other hand is easy to use with the manual and a comfortable viewfinder. Both of this have par photo quality so you can't be disappointed with both.
the A7iv better have a flip screen. I swear they already had the technology to put a flip screen on the A7iii but they didn't because they just wanted to make more money by releasing that A7C.
It becomes much harder to recommend the A7C when you consider second hand prices, the A7 iii can be picked up for around ⅓ of the price of an A7c at the moment. Both great camera though!
@@anonym5510 I watched a few sell for that much when I posted that comment, but I think they must have been unusually cheap. The average price now seems to be quite a bit higher, you are right.
Nope, I need a second camera and I already have & love an A7III. Until the 7C came I was planning to save the money for an A6600, but with the tempo of spitting out new models, I feel the A7IV around the corner. I'll wait.
Oh, I didn't wait, I've just bought an A6400 w. 18-105 f4, it ensures a great 3 Alpha cameras setup and now I can really wait to see if A74 will ever come. Then I'll let it steam off and maybe buy by the end of next year...
I can’t believe the A7C went back up by $300 🤦🏻♂️ $1,800 ridiculous. How often do these go on sale? Or is there a better camera at that price? Need flip screen.
The A7C does not have ALL-I or 10bit. It also overheats pretty easily. If you are planning on doing video, the new A7IV is a MASSIVE step up from both of these and I have quite a few videos on that camera
Hey Dan ... i got a question ... currently have 2x cameras a6400 (only for web streaming / web cam) with Sigma 16mm 1.4. Also have a sony a7iii with a couple G Master lenses for family/travel/hobby/events. I am thinking of either selling both camera for a single sony a7siii + 24mm G 1.4 as both webcam/stream and events. Not sure if the a7siii is overkill for my needs. Due to the lockdown, a7iii is collecting dust... a6400 is getting plenty of use :)
Hey! So technically the A7SIII is a bit overkill for what you need but there really isn't a good alternative under it so I'd either go with your plan of replacing with the SIII or sell the A7III now while it is worth a lot and plan on upgrading to the A7IV when it comes out probably in the next 3 months which should be more suitable for what you need and less $ than the SIII
Thanks!!! Basically some IKEA shelves with some strip lighting and I use it to store all my cameras. Pretty simple stuff actually lol. Want to upgrade the strip lights soon actually since they are just some $20 rope lights from Amazon and are a bit crooked

I bought the Sony A7III a week ago and never used it. I am planning to return it because I heard a lot of them will get a broken shutter. Now I am thinking to get the A7C but I heard it doesn’t have such a good image stabilization. I don’t know what to do.
The a7iii has had shutter problems but very uncommon. Also if you purchased it new it has 1 year warranty, if the shutter has an issue it will definitely break within that year leaving you with warranty. But sony's a7iii is amazing, doubt it would ever break
Hi there, nice review! I am thinking to buy it as a backup cam for A7Siii, mainly in order to take a larger stills. What do you think about the picture quality compare to A7Siii ? Thanks in advance!
Suddenly the A6600 body only is out of stock from where I live in starting September 15 when they launched the a7c. Something is fishy with sony from where I live. I think they are pushing the a7c and it cost $2014 USD here for the body only. When there is a sale and the price is around 1500 usd then ill buy it. But for now, its a no for me. Though I like the a7c though, minus the shallow grip and no 4k60p. All in all its a fantastic camera.
Very interesting material! I have a question for you and the viewers, maybe they already have some experience. 1. Have you checked if it overheats when recording 4k after about 1h (I have A7III and after about 60 minutes it overheats and turns off)? I am thinking of buying this A7C, but the condition is that it cannot overheat while recording 4k in continuous mode.
I’m on the fence on buying this one. The only thing I try to find out, is if you switch between video and M for stills, does it keep separate settings like shutterspeed for example? And in that case, does that also apply to the record button?
I like the stiling of the Sony A7c very much with the EVF out to the very side of the camera, I hope that all future A7/A9 Sony cameras will have this design, but with larger EVF in higher resolution.
I use the A7c with the Sigma 30mm as the main camera on my channel. My secondary angle is shot using a6400 with the Sigma 56 mm (I love this lens! 😍) feel free to check out.
There is no reason to but this expensive camera. Using a big lens on an aps-c type body is silly. An a7000 with a new menu system and better video and stabilization for $1500 would have been better.
If u are buying ur first camera.. And wanting to upgrade from phone.. Would u wait for a7iv or buying the a7iii... Confused! Need help.. Great video on the differences, a7c i feel won't take huge lenses as 70-200 that easily to click.
Hey! So definitely for photos, I'd be fine buying the A7III now. I'm sure the A7IV will be better but there likely won't be a must have feature that changes the industry. On the video side, that's where most of the large improvements will likely be. Hope that helps!
The problem with Sony no one talks about is even getting their new cameras. Still can't even get an A7S after all this time. A7C's on waiting lists in most places. If your waiting for a A74, plan on waiting more than a year to even get one. I cant stand all the hype about new cameras and you cant even get em anyway.
Thanks for that great video! I have the A6600 and love it, would like to add a full frame for better IQ. I’m debating between the A7III, A7RIII and the A7RIV (I do mostly photography). What do you recommend?
So you might actually want to check out the A7RIII right now. The differences are mild but the RIII is also on a crazy sale and gives you more resolution, a better quality viewfinder, and a better quality screen: bhpho.to/39nSAlD Usually those differences are not worth it but that RIII sale is crazy!
How would you compare the new kit lens? I’m doing sports video recording and I want something with good image stabilization so the smaller kit lens doesn’t have that and neither do the Tamron or sigma lenses
Hi Dan, I am a new Sony mirrorless user. My new A7iii arrived yesterday and I must say, I am impressed. I have a question about Picture Profiles. I have a question in regards to Picture Profiles. I have other Sony video equipment I use for work. I am a big user of PP10 HLG. Silly question, but going to ask. When in Video mode on the A7iii, I have set the profile to PP10. When switching back to Aperture Priority I noticed the Picture Profile seems to stay as PP10. Is this profile applying to my photography or just video? Cheers WMV
Hey!!! Awesome! So, in theory, the picture profiles ONLY affect video and jpeg files (they will affect jpeg files though so be careful). However, there is 1 setting in the picture profiles that can minorly affect RAW files and I believe it is one of the GAMMA settings. I unfortunately don't remember exactly which one but in most cases picture profiles don't affect RAW photos
@@learningcameras Dan, Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, I shoot RAW and prefer HLG PP10 for my video content. I just thought it was really inconvenient to have to constantly change PP every time I want to grab some quick b-roll on a photoshoot without having to fuss around with settings. Cheers, WMV
What is the point of keep releasing a new muted camera lacking essential features, where as one Complete Hybrid camera is needed by mass & would sell in bucket full, look at new smartphones obliterated Camera companies. Canon with Hybrid R5 and R6 & more in the pipelines is trying to revive the situation!
If you only shoot photos, then yes. The A7III is still amazing as a photography camera and the quality of the A7IV hasn't really improved much. As a video camera, it's quite the opposite...the A7IV or even the a6700 is VASTLY better in so many ways so it just depends on how you use it
These little video cameras, do you need to leave the shutter at 60, or 120 to keep consistent with the format you choose for the video, or just flip to video and the camera will do the job? How about custom white balance?
I need some suggestions. I want to upgrade my camera and I do maternity, baby and event photoshoots. Currently I am using beginner Nikon dslr and confused whether to continue using DSLR or buy mirrorless camera. I did finalised Nikon D750 however it seems there are good options in mirrorless camera like nikon Z6 and sony A7 lll . I am happy to change the brand but I am looking to buy best options in limited budget. My budget is around 2500$. Please suggest best mirrorless camera. Can you guys please suggest which is the best camera to buy and what is the reason behind it?
Hey! So since you are already shooting Nikon, I would highly recommend the Nikon Z6. The A7III is great but it is about 3 years old so the Z6 is still doing well thanks to a few firmware updates. I'm sure a new Sony A7IV will be better but until we see it, the Z6 is awesome and on a great sale: bhpho.to/3aS8Yes
So definitely for video get the 7c. It has better video AF, unlimited recording, and the flip screen. Plus it has some more hidden features like you can rename video files which you can't do on the 7iii
Hahaha...you probably wouldn't guess...but this! bhpho.to/3o0Nvnp I'd say that 90% of my in-studio videos were shot with that series in the last year all with full autofocus with eye tracking using a 35mm F1.8 prime
Should I get the tamron 28-75 F2.8 vs Sigma 24-75 F2.8 ? I am thinking of getting A7iii or A7iv or A7riii in a few years after a get the lens? I like to take landscape, street, travel and learn how to make video?
@@tommyliu1210 Sigma is wider so better for landscape/street, but Tamron is lighter & bit smaller so better for travel. Have you thought about 28-200 Tamron?= good all-in-one

Should I Get this if I'm upgrading from a Canon 7d Mark ii? I'm looking to upgrade to something better on the video end, however, most of my work is photography work. I will be in a photo studio or shooting natural light and will only once in a while do video for social media.
So it's definitely an upgrade photo wise from the 7D2 but most of the reason to get the A7c would be if you want a better camera for video AND want a Sony AND want something crazy small under $2000. If any of those are not you, there might be a better option

I do like the form factor of the A7C which is basically the same as the A6xxx size. I have both the A6600 and the A7iii. My favorite general purpose lens for both cameras is the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8. The comparative size and weight difference between the two cameras with the Tamron attached is really not all that great. The A7C does not bring enough to the table to justify switching to that camera just to save five or six ounces.

@@DeluXeZ3niiTh Absolutely, the Sony 20mm F1.8G, 35mm F1.8, 55mm F1.8, and 85mm F1.8 are all great. Most of their zooms though, I prefer Tamron for compact quality lenses
Hey Dan, I am considering the sony system primarily because of these amazing Tamron (great value) lenses. My question is, I was looking at getting a a7c with the Tamron 17-28 and 70-180 lens. Will the grip/handling of the camera be an issue ?
Hey! Definitely agree. So the 17-28 is no problem at all with the A7C. The 70-180 might be a bit awkward and front heavy but I certainly wouldn't qualify it as an issue. But if your shooting for a long period you might feel your hand cramp up a bit since it doesn't have a full grip. But either way I think you'd be good
Thank you for the quality information you provide. Need your help in my deliberation on choosing an additional camera body for my lumix g9. Looking for the short term and debating between the sony a7c and fuji xs10
So the Fuji might be a great option for you. It is going to give you 90% of the A7C quality for almost half the price and most lenses would be cheaper as well. But the A7C is full frame where as the Fuji isn't so the quality is still going to be in the A7C
I feel like the a7c is a great way to get into full frame video shooting. I see the a7iii just dropped in price below the a7c but I am heavily thing about get the a7c as I know the image would be an upgrade from the a6400. Was thinking of build my full frame glass before going after the a7siii.
The 30 minute record limit is for all video modes. It will automatically stop recording at 30minutes. However, you can hit record AGAIN immediately after so you only lose a few seconds
How are you!. One question, which camera would you recommend, more video than photo, as the only all-terrain camera, sony a6600 lens 18-105 mm or sony 7c lens 24-105 mm, regards !
Hey! The A7c would be my recommendation for photos at the moment if you can afford it vs the a6600. You will see some image quality improvements and the a6600 doesn't really have anything compelling that the A7c doesn't have. If you are going to get the a6600, I'd highly recommend trying to find a used one and saving some $! For video, the A7C is a clear winner!
@@amiteshprasun5917 They really do compete with each other but the S5 does have a few advantages with 4k60. However, nothing beats Sony autofocus and the lens selection is better so it just depends
For video, the A7C has more pluses such as eye AF in video, unlimited recording, a flip screen, and access to catalist browse for stabilizing in post. Those are some pretty big wins so the A7C tends to be my recommended camera for video between the 2 until the A74 comes along

Man, I can’t decide between the two. I want both video and picture camera!
Best comparison of the cameras I've seen on youtube. I was considering the A7C since I got a great deal on the Tamron 28-75mm but I think it'll just stay with my A6500 until A7iv.
Thanks so much! Yeah, the A6500 is still great and the A7c wouldn't be a massive update especially for images
I've just sold an a7iii and picked up an A7C. I much prefer the evf on the very left edge of the body and mainly because the a7iii screen is a pain in the backside esp when shooting astro in portrait orientation at night. Which I do a lot of if not shoot all my landscape astro in portrait.
Are you happy with your decision?
You know we're going to go NUTS when the a7iv is announced...😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
@M Tech stupid to compare phones with cameras. Hahaha 4k 60p on mobile phones are like 10-20mbps only lmao cameras do it at 100-200mbps and sometimes even more
Sony should update the tracking on the a7iii via firmware update.
They won’t. Wouldn’t leave any advantage for A7C
Probably not for another year until a7c sales is robust.
Appreciate that Gabriel! Glad it helped
Same bro, getting it tommorow!! With sigma 24-70mm.. Wohooooooo!!
@@sgstrikesports1461 les go enjoy!
The only advantage for the a7c is how small it is. You can bring it anywhere without having a bigger separate bag bringing with you. A7iii on the other hand is easy to use with the manual and a comfortable viewfinder. Both of this have par photo quality so you can't be disappointed with both.
I bought a7c too! It's a very good camera. I use it every day. The video was very interesting. Thank you! With love from Japan :)
A7C is literally ultimate overpowered streaming camera: flip out screen, light

@@learningcameras Thank you so much Dan!
annoying they didnt put flip screen for a73
i know
the A7iv better have a flip screen.
Ive never seen anyone sell a used a7iii for 1/3 the price. They usually just a few hundred dollars less than new.
Dual card slots is the biggest miss on A7C 😔
I can’t believe the A7C went back up by $300 🤦🏻♂️
$1,800 ridiculous. How often do these go on sale? Or is there a better camera at that price? Need flip screen.
I'm really tempted and thorned at the same time... A7c or wait a few more months and get the big boy (A7sIII).
Same 😵
Hey brother...the text on your logo is too small. I'd stack the words horizontally to get bigger font size. The one on the corner of your video.
You’re awesome thanks for the comparison!
Appreciate that!
Smallrig makes a great cage for the A7C.
Does a7c has ALL-I codec ? And what about overheating ...Im planning to buy it and which kit lens I should buy with good range ?
The A7C does not have ALL-I or 10bit. It also overheats pretty easily. If you are planning on doing video, the new A7IV is a MASSIVE step up from both of these and I have quite a few videos on that camera
@@learningcameras Ok thank you so much sir

Hey Dan ... i got a question ... currently have 2x cameras a6400 (only for web streaming / web cam) with Sigma 16mm 1.4.

You said for video at 2,000 there are some better options than A7C. Can you give some examples?
I need something with a flip screen. Only thing I can think of is Fuji XT-4
Now a day's which one will be best?? A7iii or a7c.... I'll purchase new... And use it for weeding & travell 🙂🙂🙂
I'd go with the A7III in almost every case
Please do a 7c vs 7iiii comparison
Hi there, nice review! I am thinking to buy it as a backup cam for A7Siii, mainly in order to take a larger stills. What do you think about the picture quality compare to A7Siii ? Thanks in advance!
Let me know the answer to this too loo
Suddenly the A6600 body only is out of stock from where I live in starting September 15 when they launched the a7c. Something is fishy with sony from where I live. I think they are pushing the a7c and it cost $2014 USD here for the body only. When there is a sale and the price is around 1500 usd then ill buy it. But for now, its a no for me. Though I like the a7c though, minus the shallow grip and no 4k60p. All in all its a fantastic camera.
Super useful. Awesome video. Thanks.
Thanks Dan!
Hey! So I have overheated it once in just over an hr. The only camera that seems to last longer (from Sony at least) is the A7SIII though
Will wait for the obvious a74 with the flips screen....but then will wait till the a75 to pick it up pretty cheap.
ooh smart
Does the A7C overheat since it is a small body?
I'm just learning my A6500
Being tall people laugh at the small crop sensor body they say if you not full frame your a amature
I’m on the fence on buying this one. The only thing I try to find out, is if you switch between video and M for stills, does it keep separate settings like shutterspeed for example? And in that case, does that also apply to the record button?
i am going to buy my first camera should i go for a7c or a7mark 3 for professional photography ,videography, cinematography & vlogging.
A7c for video
A7iii for photo.
If you have the option getting both would be a good two camera system
First camera and saying you will be doing professional photography/videography lol. Maybe do it for 5 years then consider using that title!
feel free to check out.
Awesome!!!
There is no reason to but this expensive camera. Using a big lens on an aps-c type body is silly. An a7000 with a new menu system and better video and stabilization for $1500 would have been better.
Great analysis as always
You're awesome.

@@learningcameras yep it does, thank you :) thanks for these videos. They do help a lot.. Keep them up coming :)
The differences are mild but the RIII is also on a crazy sale and gives you more resolution, a better quality viewfinder, and a better quality screen: bhpho.to/39nSAlD
Usually those differences are not worth it but that RIII sale is crazy!
@@learningcameras Thank you Dan!
Cheers, WMV
Nice video 👌 As a person that wants to take their hobby and start making money from photography, what would that next step entail?
What is the point of keep releasing a new muted camera lacking essential features, where as one Complete Hybrid camera is needed by mass & would sell in bucket full, look at new smartphones obliterated Camera companies. Canon with Hybrid R5 and R6 & more in the pipelines is trying to revive the situation!
Is it worth getting a7iii for 1200 new even though its over 5yo old
If you only shoot photos, then yes. The A7III is still amazing as a photography camera and the quality of the A7IV hasn't really improved much. As a video camera, it's quite the opposite...the A7IV or even the a6700 is VASTLY better in so many ways so it just depends on how you use it
Waiting on your C70 thoughts
These little video cameras, do you need to leave the shutter at 60, or 120 to keep consistent with the format you choose for the video, or just flip to video and the camera will do the job? How about custom white balance?
Ideally you should still have the shutter speed at double the frame rate of the video you are recording
A7C has the gyro data stored in the video ... this mean you can stabilize in post with catalyst ... A7III it's not

Hey! The A7c would be my recommendation for photos at the moment if you can afford it vs the a6600. For video, the A7C has more pluses such as eye AF in video, unlimited recording, a flip screen, and access to catalist browse for stabilizing in post. Those are some pretty big wins so the A7C tends to be my recommended camera for video between the 2 until the A74 comes along
