    Great stuff, Mark. Based nearly exclusively on your videos I have migrated almost all the way to Sony (after decades shooting professionally with one brand). Could it be that the 6400 and zv-e10 are optimized for different colour spaces?
      I think in photography and print the Adobe RGB is more widely used while in videography and cinematography they use the DCI P3 colour space.

    Great job on the video Mark! Thanks for making it. I'm betting that whatever they call the replacement for the a6000 series of cameras, they will be in updated a6600 bodies with the same sensor as the FX30 and probably 2 sku. 1 with IBIS and one without. I'm also guessing that they come out with a flagship, APS-C, hybrid camera called the A70 in the same body as the A7IV. This morning I had a thought though: What if Sony came out with a FX60? APS-C with built-in variable ND? When you consider that if your use-case requires variable ND, then do you really care about the crop sensor's lack of low light performance? I shoot a lot of video outdoors while off-roading in the desert, so I don't care about low-light for that, and if Sony had an APS-C option with variable ND and IBIS (which would much more comfortably fit in that body around a smaller sensor) at say... $2800? I would feel much more comfortable taking that setup in the field than a $6000+ rig.

    • @derekroberts5931

      Ibis and touch screen should be standard in every camera, no excuse at cost point. Look at go pros tiny bodies and great stabilization and touch. We are talking 10+ year old tech. Should be in Every Sony above $500.

    Currently contemplating one of these two cameras as a replacement for my old NEX 5.
    I've been leaning toward the ZV-E10, as I do a lot of low light photography, and from what I can gather it has better low light capabilities with regard to the autofocus.
    Though I worry about it not being weather sealed...still unsure which way to go.
    I'm intent on staying within Sony's sphere as I only have E-Mount lenses in my kit, so perhaps I just need to round up some other comparable models in the Sony space as well before I decide.

    • @JonasPetri

      What do you mean with the ZV-E10 having better low light capabilities? I’d think that if you do mainly photography, the viewfinder of the A6400 is really handy. Also, it has Auto ISO Min. Shutter Speed, which can be pretty useful for low light photography!

    I use both cameras mainly for photo with prime lenses. I didn't want to change lenses all the time so I choose ZV-E10 as a cheapest APSC body [with sale] for my secondary lens. ZV is less ergonomic for photo, also has only one MR slot and few other minor limitations, but have even more effective eye/face AF than a6400. It can be used for photography only, but one really annoying drawback of ZV for photographer is lack of ISO AUTO Min. Shutter Speed feature you have mentioned. It forces user for constant controling of exposure settings even in A or M+AutoISO mode. It's pure software feature and could be easily updated but unfortunately, for some reason, Sony ignore users here.

    That's really interesting! I was really torned between a6400, ZV-E10 and a6100. I went for a6400 in the end cuz it has that weather-sealed and nice EVF, also I got it used for under $650 as well along with a smallrig cage, 5 batteries (including its own included one), kit lens and dual battery charger as a bundle! It does have like nearly 45k shutter count cuz the previous owner is using it professionally but I don't mind that much cuz I'm a hybrid shooter (leaning towards video a bit more cuz I do TH-cam content as well but I do photography from time to time as a hobby ^^;) so I don't think the shutter is gonna break for a while imo.
    Compared from the two, I was surprised that there's some suttle differences between the two. I liked the ZV-E10's colors a bit more than a6400's on the studio and on the ally but I liked the a6400's colors in low light more. Ig that's more of a personal preference at this point ^^;
    Also yea, it is a bummer that stabilization isn't there in a6400 but if am gonna buy a lens with really good lens stabiliation like f4 18-105, it would probably be just as good as a6600's IBIS! Thou, I wouldn't get bothered much by the lack of stab cuz I mostly put the camera onto my tripod and on my slider when making A/B-roll shots. It is also a bummer that it uses micro USB as well cuz I can't use my microphone to hook it up via usb-c while being audio monitored via microphone (I tried using an adapter and that didn't work soo rip...). Vertical model, yea, its a bit inconvidient to change that in post and that webcam feature, at least it's capable to do that via mini HDMI + capture card and it worked amazingly! And I didn't even know that there's product showcase mode in a6400 so I'ma check that out, thanks anyways! ^^
    But yea, really solid deal with what I got with really solid camera, really a huge upgrade from my Fuji X-A10 in terms of video! I'm definitely gonna keep this camera and when it's the time for me upgrade it, will still be usable as a B-cam maybe in like the next few years or something!

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis
      @MarkBennettCameraCrisis  ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I owend a a6400. My biggest issue with a6400 and ZV-E10 is poor performance in 1080p compared to the 4K quality. Unfortunately you have to rely on 1080p for SlowMo.
    There is currently nothing between a6xxx/ZV-E10 and the FX30. I hope that Sony will close the gap soon.

    Love your videos. I was working on my E10, going through the menus and thinking of about the features in this tiny body. Then I realized this is a second cousin of the a6400 without the EVF. It has a mechanical shutter. I figure Sony took a knife and sliced off a few things, rearranged the buttons, removed a button or two and created the E10.
    As for that flash in the a6400, what I do is take my finger and point the flash to the ceiling with great results. The flash in regular orientation with a wide-angle lens will suffer from a light cutoff. So, bouncing the flash works great.

    I just got this camera and I love it! Change the stabilization setting to standard, it’ll zoom out more instead of it being super cropped but your camera won’t be stabilized :/ LOL. I have an unboxing and videos of this camera on my channel. Great compact camera.

    hi. very informative and entertaining video, as always. you touched on a subject I am interested in, which is the CB stabilization vs cinematic look via 180 degree rule. as I understood, if you want CB to give you a perfect result, you can't go lower than 1/200. however, as we all know, this rule out the possibility of using the 180 rule on our (to be stabilized) videos, since even if you go for the highest fps supported by CB ( 60fps), you would have to set the camera to 1/120. so I ask: do you know a way to apply that tiny cinematic motion blur after on a 1/200 video, so we can benefit from the amazing CB without losing the possibility of producing a standard (180 degree rule) cinematic video?

    I will choose the ZV-E10. The main reason is that is has more value for money. A A6400 including a kit-lens will set me back for around a 1000 euros. The ZV-E10 will cost 700 euros for the body and a lens. The 300 euros difference will give me some financial room for an extra lens. I always prefer a EVF en built-in flash, but to be honest the last three yeas with my "old" camera i never used them. I hope this camera will be a of a sort bridge-camera for me between photography and video. All my old camera's are Fujifilm, so switching to Sony is little bit scary. But, being able to colour grade my videos is for me a big plus!

      Aren't auto engines still measured in "horsepower"? Nothing wrong with re-adapting these words, which are integral to the history of photography and cinema, and it only adds to the richness of the descriptive language. A word isn't anachronistic unless or until it goes out of style...

    • @stefpix
      @stefpix ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MarkBennettCameraCrisis I hope it is not a pattern to remove the EVF from most cameras. Even for an outdoor run and gun video, the EVF is a great tool. In a studio, with a camera on a tripod and more controlled settings, a camera without a viewfinder is more usable. Back in the day I bought 2 A6100, as they were heavily discounted, instead of one A6100. IQ is the same. But the A6400 is a great buy, if discounted. Actually I wish Sony would improve the EVF. I have a Nikon full frame that has such a great viewfinder

    Then ONLY reason to get a 6400 over a Zve10 is the weather sealing. And the 6600 is for the battery and the IBIS. It’s really hard to shoot handheld video with little Dougy. I did a forest trail walk video with active stab, which I posted on my channel, and half of the shots were unusable 😅

      The canon r10 would be a good candidate, but there are no lenses. The Nikon z30 is a good choice or the Fuji X-S10. But I really like these two Sony’s - especially the zv-e10 for video. The photos in the two look identical because they have the same processor and sensor

    Hi mark i have one doubt about zve10 . Decided to by Zve10 + Sigma 30mm 1.4 for out door video (not only vllogging but also gimbel shots) its is the best combo for out door video what is your opinion ?

    • @MarkBennettCameraCrisis

      ts a great combo, but the 30mm is too tight for vlogging. look at the Sony 11mm f1.8 or if you want a budget option, the Yongnuo 11mm f1.8 for vlogging
