Oh! Then definitely save for that! You could probably get away with even with the first GM but yeah, man! Do you have an idea what full frame you’ll upgrade to?

One thing that is still unclear to me is whether I can record externally from the a6400 through its HDMI port, and if so, would I be able to get a valid 10-bit data file from that recording. The potential problem I see is if the data recorded would be exactly the same 8-bit that the camera might record internally, whether it is recorded as 10-bit or not.

Hello! Do you still recommend this camera (a6400) for jewelry photography? Or which camera do you recommend that is affordable and of good quality? thank you 🙌🏻
So, I have a 6400 and I am planning to start a pre-wedding film studio. The way you have outlined it's features, it is going to fall short. As I am going to need the stabilization, multiple sd cards and the longer shoot times (full frame doesn't hurt either). At the same time, I think from the photos it has taken, it is good enough for the photos that I am going to deliver. As well as all the recci and mock-shoot that I am going to do. So what I am thinking is to rent an a7 S 3 for a day to shoot the film and then use this camera for everything else. Which makes me think who is the 6700 for? If you want something as your daily camera 6400 and the z series is good enough. If you want to deliver on your client work, it is better to spring for a full frame sensor camera. And the 6700 is nearly as expensive as an A7 iv and you might even find an a7 iii second hand for cheaper with lenses for cheaper. The same can be said for an a 7 s2 if you specifically want video. What is an a 6700 even there for?
If you do not need 10 bit, logs and 4k 60 fps - you can go easily with 6400. Cause iso grain - same; stabilizer on any sony - not working solution cause of small bayonet. Autofocus is good on 6400 also.
I forget. If you film dynamic scenes in 4k horizontal - go for 6700. Cause of rolling shutter. If 4k dynamics in vertical - on 6400 also ok, plus minus.

What about for Live Streaming on Twitch? I stream anywhere from 6-12 hours a day, 5 days a week. I’m currently on a Canon M50 and debating between getting the Sony A6700 or the Sony ZV-E1
I have a video comparing those two on my channel. Both excellent cameras, zv-e1 is better just more costly with the lenses depending on what you get. I’ve never kept these cameras running that long but I’m guessing you keep those plugged in for power or use a dummy battery.
@@MikeBSalazar Yes! Through OBS. And honestly something that is just reliable LMFAO. I’ve dealt with my Canon M50 freezing for 3+ years. I have a lot of friends in the streaming space that all either have either the A6700 or ZV-E1 and what just comes down to is price difference. The ZV-E1 might be a little TOO good for my specific setup lol. My background is very detailed with my plushie collection, and too much bokeh would have them all looking like blobs LOL. Common consensus is that the ZV-E1 tends to overheat. And then little to no cons with the A6700 which is why I’m leaning more towards it. Streaming at 1080p at 60fps or 4K is definitely preferred. Sony a6700 or Can R50 ? Else Sony a6400 or Canon r50 ? Which would be the best? My requirement is mainly for casual photography. And mainly looking for recent launch models.
Dont forget that the processor is so much better than the a6400/a6600. More features than just human and animal eye af. Also its more advanced and sticks to the subject better than previous models. Thats why I upgraded from the a6600. Plus it has the best grip of all A6xxx series and a front wheel dial for the first time.
The sony a6400 has not heating up issues whatsoever. I used the 6400 since it came out. Unfortunately we cannot say the same for the a6700 particularly when shooting at 4k 60.
hey Mike, appreciate the helpful comparison video! I'm looking to buy my first Sony camera and debating between these two models. Would you say a6400 with Sony E 18-135mm F3.5-5.6 OSS Lens is a better buy than a6700 with 16-50mm lens? Or do you have other lens to recommend that would significantly improve the performance of a6400 over a6700? I'm interested in both photography and videography as I shoot some travel/road trip vlogs. Thanks a lot!
I have been wanting to upgrade from my action cameras(gopro and osmo action. I do like the compactness of the action cameras xD. Do you recommend the 6700 or the fx30?
Depends on your needs. I like the fx30 for paid work with dual sd cards and ergonomics. A6700 i like for casual every day stuff and also the mechanical shutter.
May have been more informative had you posted your video in 4k. I found it difficult to decipher the difference in quality between the two cameras on my 4K monitor. Also, one of the sample comparisons mislabeled the cameras. Good topic though.
Ive been using a6400 for 3yrs mostly with tamron17-70. Ive got enough oss for movie making and photos are great. I think a6700 has much faster AF but Im not sure how big benefit will you have with non-sony lenses. There is one thing mostly needed, joystick for manual focusing on front of body. Today I would buy 6700 or fx30 but ... stay with my 6400
Because I shoot photos and no video, the a6700, while an outstanding camera, will not produce a significant increase in image quality over the a6400. This prediction is especially true because an 8x12-inch photo (at 500 ppi) will be the largest print I will ever make. So, I think for now, I will skip upgrading to the a6700 and buy instead prime lenses for my a6400.
7:23 you said you don't recommend either of these cameras for podcasts. I'm primarily looking for a good camera which has no video recording limit (because podcast!) and prefer a budget option. Which ones do you recommend?
These cameras would be fine if you're recording for up to an hour, or if you're doing like a remote podcast and are recording something through like OBS. But if you're long winded it's almost cheaper to just buy a camcorder.
my old workplace uses ZV-E10 for podcast, it didn't have recording limit and no overheat at 4K30 recording, it's just the FW50 battery that limit your recording to 1 hour 10 minutes unless you're using dummy
There are reasons... -Price (It's not $1400). Used it's more like $600 in 2024. -Size & weight. The A6400 is 400g -People who don't do video won't appreciate all the a6700s video enhancements -a6400 has built in flash -People who have a full frame camera but want a smaller capable APSC that can still take their lenses may prefer the a6400 over a6700. Me, I would go with the A6600 over the a6400. (Grip, battery, color science, full tilt up LCD screen, more custom buttons, IBIS, headphone input, video eye and face detect, no limit on 4K video, comparable price on used market). I'd even take a6600 over the a6700. But the a6400 is still a very capable camera.
Omg sony no pop out flash really not making cameras for every situation so disappointing!!why would you not recommend a pop up flash if your on holiday if you want to use a fill flash u just cant because sony cheaping out money saving.bump up the iso and have noise in pictures no thanks cameras need built-in flashes to be truly flexible otherwise just use my flagship phone

@@MikeBSalazar yes I use a dummy battery!
@@Jana-cj2yk I’m going to assume you record through OBS instead of on camera. What are your dealbreakers for your streaming camera?
Then wanting to pair the A6700 with the 16mm Sigma lens or the ZV-E1 with the 12mm GM lens.
@@Jana-cj2yk Ah I see. Generally I like the FX30 because it's got an internal fan (not loud too). Plus it's in between the price of the ZV-E1 and the A6700. You can still pair a Sigma 16mm to it.
if you are using a stabilized lense (17-70 sigma for example) on the a6400 and u work with davinci for stabilisation, u wont have any problems with shaky footage.
I have this exact combo and i can film buttersmooth footage even handheld
I heard the 17-70 Tamron was a great lens as well.
does sony still support the a6400? if so, how long do you think they will continue to do so for?
I would think they would support it as long as it’s not discontinued.
@@MikeBSalazar thank you! I still trying to decide between the two. Your review is very helpful
Hmm. I have the a6400. Only missing out on the image stabilization bothers me. I shot B-roll handheld at 120fps a few times and the was unsolvable in post. Still happy with the a6400, as it is only for shooting video testimonials.
I know that struggle. I don’t often carry around a gimbal, but when I do, it comes in handy.
Wait for the Sony 7000! I hear it will so much better than the 6700 the 6800 and the 6900.
Sony a6700 or Can R50 ? Else Sony a6400 or Canon r50 ? Which would be the best? My requirement is mainly for casual photography. And mainly looking for recent launch models.
I’m not familiar with the Canon system but if you’re mostly focused on photography, the a6100 may be better for you. A6400 adds more video features.
Great video. I own a Sony a6400. I only take photos and no video. Would you recommend I upgrade to a6700?
I wouldn't recommend it. Better off getting a new lens.
@@MikeBSalazar thank you. I have many lenses and plan to bring 3 for this Norwegian fjords cruise. Sony 10-18, Tamron 17-70 and Sony 70-350.
you make great comparisons, please make a video comparing the a6700 with the a6600!
Thanks for the feedback. I unfortunately don’t have an a6600 to compare with anymore.
Pointless as the 6600 is no different to the 6400 just bigger battery and ibis
Do they use the same lenses?
Yes
Hello! What mic and cage can you recommend for the Sony A6400?
I'm generally recommending any Falcam cages as they're good for both horizontal and vertical shooting.
Does the a700 have ac power supply for long video coverage?
Power supply is good, but it depends if it’ll overheat on you within an hour or so.
you can buy mock batteries for all camera models, this way you plug them to power supply
I definitely love that front dial too. Thanks for the insight, as I have only used the 6600 for a little little bit.
The sony a6400 has not heating up issues whatsoever. I used the 6400 since it came out. Unfortunately we cannot say the same for the a6700 particularly when shooting at 4k 60.
Yeah 4k overheating is a different beast as we turn up the FPS 😅
@@MikeBSalazar i guess
Where are those camera caps from? 🔥
Kondor blue
hey Mike, appreciate the helpful comparison video!
So a 6700 better for blogging than 6400
They’re both food for vlogging, its just that you need an attachment for the a6400 if you want to mount a microphone AND be able to see yourself.
but 6400 does not have stabilization@@MikeBSalazar
The a6700 flip out screen is a deal breaker for me. Better for video than photos. And I primarily shoot photos.
Its definitely a good time to get into a6700
May have been more informative had you posted your video in 4k. I found it difficult to decipher the difference in quality between the two cameras on my 4K monitor. Also, one of the sample comparisons mislabeled the cameras. Good topic though.
Yeah smh at that mislabeling. Thought I exported the correct version.
Thanks for the feedback!
Can we customize our a6100 (c1) button
To a puase and resume button
??????????
Pause and resume for video playback?
I have the a6000 would the a6400 be good for upgrade? Im only into photography.
Good for face auto focus. Maybe if you want to take time lapse photos with the built-in feature.
Today I would buy 6700 or fx30 but ... stay with my 6400
Yeah just wait for a much better upgrade
i have the a6000. I dont want to spend way too much. Would the a6400 be a good upgrade?
yes, the a6400 would be an excellent upgrade for the video features and still have great photography ergonomics as well.
I have 6400.. 6700 provides colourfull photos or same as 6400?
I would say just as the same. Haven't noticed that big of a difference.
Thank u so much. I will wait for sometime and upgrade to fullframe …
you can pick picture profiles in both
Because I shoot photos and no video, the a6700, while an outstanding camera, will not produce a significant increase in image quality over the a6400.
Panasonic g85 if your on a budbet
@@heyyall1790 we have G80 in the UK but recording stops every 30mins and new file every 4GB
Currently on the A6000 and considering upgrading to the A6400 or the A6700 - this was very helpful in deciding. Thanks a lot!
You’re very welcome!
Dude get the A6700
I have a Canon 1300 D should i Upgrade to 6400 oder next to 6700?🙈
Depending what you shoot. But a6400 is a good entry with lenses.
@@MikeBSalazar or the 6600?😂
The biggest issue imo is that 6400 has terrible rolling shutter issue. What about 6700?
should be solved with a6700
I see you got the micro clutch on the a6700! Is yours the L plate or I plate?
This was the L plate
Great video. I have been using a 6400 for a while. I am really wanting to upgrade to the 6700!
If you are a video person, its a worthy upgrade for sure.
So helpful. Thanks.
Thanks for stoppin by!
I didn’t expect to see a pop! cover here😭
Sorry bout that
How to charge
I prefer to buy a dual charger for more batteries otherwise through the USB port on the side.
I'm beginner's my first camera sony a6000, I used kit lens, sony 35mm F1.8 and sony FE 85mm f1.8.
I want to upgrade but I'm skint 😂
Hahahaha. No rush, these cameras will wait for you.
fire video man!
Appreciate it! Thank you!
Question is if A6700 has as fast AF as A6400.
I hardly notice a difference, if anything, the Eye-AF is more reliable on the A6700 with the AI.
@@MikeBSalazar Eye - AF doesn`t interes me at all. But maybe I should have asked about AF lag when in AF-C mode.
I didn't notice a drastic difference between the two when it came to AF.@@Aleksdraven
Lack of usb-c, no fully articulated lcd, tragic menu disqualify 6400 in my opinion. I wonder why people are still buying it..
Hard to recommend but in the end the budget and system may define the choice.
There are reasons...
-Price (It's not $1400). Used it's more like $600 in 2024.
-Size & weight. The A6400 is 400g
-People who don't do video won't appreciate all the a6700s video enhancements
-a6400 has built in flash
-People who have a full frame camera but want a smaller capable APSC that can still take their lenses may prefer the a6400 over a6700.
The 6700 looks way more yellowish in terms of skin tone compared to 6400!
Thanks for that. Not interested in video so I guess the 6400 is for me.
You’re welcome. If you don’t need the viewfinder and value a flip screen more, others also prefer the Sony ZV-E10.
Interesting point of view. The flash can come in clutch when least expected.
Why is there a lot of contrast difference while shooting the face?
I was shocked myself when I left it on auto. I might have set the metering mode to +1.
@@MikeBSalazar Both cameras are set to auto?
Useless upgrading for photography
Video really is the main reason for the upgrade for sure.
a6700 has focus bracketing that's missing in a6400, but you can do it with apps
what are those lens caps in camera ..*Facepalm*
The body cap? Kondor blue.
Do some research on how to make comparison videos. It's just so chaotic and not structured. There's so much to improve on the actual script part of your videos lol.
Thanks for the feedback. Will continue to adjust.
Wow it tracks the eye when model turned around! Can I track the eye behind a closed door too? Hahaha, great video 🙌🏽
Hahaha now that would be scary. Maybe for smaller props haha
dude, there are many errors in your video,,, many times you are saying a6700 and the video is showing a6400 ,,, and then a67400,,, and the information about IBIS, you showing a6700 footage and talking about a6400... so confusing and not trust worthy take.
Thanks for the feedback. Will improve on this for future reviews
No flash on the 6700?
No, sir
they are saving costs and space.. you need an external flash that's much bigger and expensive
