Great videos, very helpful to see the process. Couple additions I'd mention, just from experience: 1. Hose down your pads/rotors with brake cleaner first. No one needs that dust in their lungs. 2. Take a minute before putting the new hub in, and scrub down the spindle, especially the mating surface where the new hub sits. Just a quick once over with a wire brush, to make sure to knock loose any rust or metal bits left behind. Then hose it down with brake cleaner again before the new hub goes in. Helps the new hub fit flush, since you aren't fighting the leftover rust flakes, brake dust, and whatever else got stuck back there in 10-16 years.

@robbiek1999 That is correct, we demonstrate this towards the end of the video when we use a torque wrench to tighten that axle bolt down. Hope this helps you out. Have a great day!

It is so nice to see 1AAuto take TH-cam to the level you have over the years. Not only are you showing straight forward repairs, you are more recently getting into diagnosis and also more difficult repairs. For example back in 2014 you showed this hub drop right out, but as you know it's not always so easy. 2020 videos are showing mechanic tricks for difficult problems and how to anticipate, avoid, and occasionally fix complications. Giving the novice a heads up about what can happen is much more responsible. Bravo!

Excellent step by step instruction by a group of professionals! I've never replace so much as a brake pad yet with the help of 1A Auto, I was able to pull this off in a few hours. Injury free until clean-up when I stubbed my toe on the floor jack. Serves me right for working in my flip flops. Cidiot!!

Your name is Sand, I wouldn't expect you to wear anything but flip flops.
I moved from Virginia with snow on the ground to Florida. 1st thing I did was put on flip flops. 2nd thing I did was drop a 5 lb weight on my toe. 3rd thing I did was listen to my wife says I told you so.

1A Auto thanks for taking the time to make these videos. This was a huge help to my husband as he changed the wheel hub on my 03 yukon xl. Only thing that we made mistakes on was forgetting that you were working on passenger side as we were working on the drivers side. Then 2wd doesn't have the center bolt that holds the rotar and hub on. Turning the wheel before you lift it might help as well.

Excellent video! I just bought your hubs and everything you showed here was spot on. My hubs were rusted solid in there, so it took a 5 pound hammer to work it out with sweat. It will eventually start moving out if anyone has this problem. Thanks for the video! This was my second purchase from you guys. Highly recommend!

Thanks guys. Not only did your video help me change out the hub assembly on my 09 GMC Yukon but I also saved 350 bux by buying the part from you guys instead of going to the dealer. Learning experience and confidence builder when you can do repairs like this that seem daunting when you stuck on the side of the road.

Just purchased both hub assemblies for the front on my 03 2500hd. Speed sensors were gone and bearings were going also. With the awesome price from you guys it was cheaper to get the whole hub assemblies pre built and ready to swap then to get each individual part! Awesome video!

Nice video and I bought my hubs from you and the rotors. If you live in the Northeast and your truck is 15 years old with 215,000 miles, the hub ain't coming off that easy. I beat mine with a 10 pound sledge and it did not budge. It is soaking in Kroil overnight. Tomorrow I will try to heat it with a torch and then pound the crap out of it again. Brine and road salt takes its toll on NE vehicles. Will update later this week.

This will be very helpful this evening changing the hub on my wife's Yukon. Unlike other how-to videos, it shows exactly what's going on. I especially like how it fast forwards through, but still shows the more tedious processes. I will be turning to 1A Auto's TH-cam channel more in future.

Great video guys, helped me a ton!! A word of advise for those who have a lotta rust like me: Do yourself a favor grab some pb's, some heavy duty chisels, and a 10lb sledge hammer (big air chisel helps too) to get the old hub off. Took me a solid hour of pounding to get it off. Afterwords it was an easy reinstall.

I am also in the rust belt where salting the roads during the winter is done excessively. I have been working at getting mine off for a while. Only have a 3 pound sledge. I guess I will have to get some good chisels or maybe shell out for an air chisel and make my compressor do the work. I take it the chisels are used in the spot between the hub bearing assembly and the place it bolts on?

Buy an ATD 8629 Hub Removal tool for a 100 bucks--if you own a Silverado you will be using it alot--it should have been mounted with the jack...Or just use it and re-sell on ebay/craigslist...there is a big demand for these

Great instructional video! All the steps were right on except for one pertaining to my vehicle, a 2004 GMC Yukon XL 1500 5.3L SLE.
My vehicle did not have a spindle therefore there was no hub nut. All it had was the three bolts and thats all. The hub itself had caps on both sides of it were normally a spindle would go through.
Everything else is right on, thank you!

Only thing mine was different with was I was able to take the caliper bracket off with the caliper still on it on my GMC Sierra Z71. Saved me a few minutes there. Glad you told the torque amounts because I had to call 3 parts shops to get someone who knew those torque specs when I did mine. My 2004 GMC eats wheel bearings up every 4 years or so but that's because it goes into mudholes all the time and water isn't your friend there..lol. Anyway, thanks for the info you give. With a little information like this I think most anyone can do them with the right tools and safety equipment.

I've used your video twice now to change 2 wheel bearings. Great instructional video. But at the end you say to Torque the lug nuts to 100 ft lbs. The GM spec is 140 ft lbs. And I read somewhere the axle nut is 177 not 125. Nice "how to" video, but it looks like I'll be going back over a few things on my mom's truck.

One thing I would change is opening that bleeder valve before you push the caliper back in.
There are check balls and check valves in some of these brake systems and you can ruin your brake system by pushing the fluid backwards.
I see many shops do the very same thing and it really surprises me because this is one of the first things I learned in auto school.
When you get to the last turn of the c-clamp, be ready to tighten that bleeder valve and then you've replaced all that worn out fluid. Then top off your brake fluid and don't add anymore till the next brake change and the level will tell you how worn out your brakes are.

I found it's much easier to get those 3 15mm bolts out if you push in on the CV axle, it will go in about 3 inches giving you much better access to use power tools.

Thanks for the video as always. The only thing that didn't work for me was using the 15mm wrench for bolts in the back. They were so tight that the wrench destroyed them in the attempt to remove them. For anyone with the same problem I got it done with a 3/8" ratchet with a cheater bar for the bottom two and with the spindle nut off and the axle pushed in just slightly I put a few long extensions to a 1/2¨ adapter and used an impact wrench from the bottom of the truck and it finally released. Not sure why it was so tight. Hope this helps someone

Was a pain in the ass. Hub was rusted to knuckle really bad. After an hour of pounding with a sledge, finally got old one off and new one on. Turns out the passenger side is the one I need to replace. Dont rely on all the "when turning left or right noise gets worse" advice. Best method to determine which bearing needs replacement is to jack up each side and rock the wheels. I'll be ordering another one tomorrow

Great video, gave me the confidence to do this job. I ran into two problems though.
1 - I bought a 35mm impact socket and it did not fit the axle bolt, I measured the socket with my digital caliper and it had a 35.18mm ID. So I rented an impact socket set from a local auto parts store and the 35mm socket in that rented set fit the axle bolt, and the 36mm socket in that set fit the axle bolt very loosely. Not sure what gives here.
2 - Could not fit a socket on two of the three bearing and hub assembly bolts to be able to torque them with my torque wrench. One has a ball joint bolt sticking down in the back of it preventing a socket from fitting and the other had interference from the axle. So how do you go about torquing these two 15mm bolts?

no no, thanks for all u guys do really. I just ordered this exact part from your site and it was the best price anywhere on the net. I even asked my mechanic Janet if she minded me purchasing the part and have her install it, she absolutely agreed and said that's the best price shes ever heard of and that her price not making one nickle profit on the part would be at least double! shes charging less than 100$ to install it and your price was 54.95 ithink, so for less than 130$ Im getting a new front hub assembly installed. this is the fourth time in 2 years and each time it was 280$+ so we are very happy. thank you.

+1A Auto Parts I just jacked the truck up and checked both sides for movement or grinding sounds when spinning. I have 35's on a 20" wheel. I didn't hear any sound, and there was no front to back movement in either wheel. I'm trying to chase this sound I hear every so often. I thought for sure it was the bearings/assembly but it doesn't seem like it now. Then I thought it was the hard brake like chattering so I spaced them with foam and I still hear it. On both sides have the same sound. Like a whining/chattering sound. Hard to describe. Any ideas? Need to replace the ABS wheel speed sensors so I figured I'd hit the assembly while I was there. But no need to now I think...

Just did the front left hub assembly and followed these directions on my 2002 yukon xl. Except for having a hell of a time with one hub bolt and getting the hub free( had to tap with a hammer for at least 20 minutes ! ) it all worked fine. Only one comment though....would it be a good idea to put a thin film of a sealer or gasket sealer on both sides of the splash shield to ensure no dirt gets in where the sorface might have excessive pitting or corrosion? Just wondering. Thanks again for some of the best diy videos out there.

Is the Yukon you did this on a 4x4? I have the 02 Silverado 4x4 same process I’m thinking but I want to make sure the hub bolts are accessible. Tried doing hub on my wife’s Hyundai and the AWD model has an axel spline was so close to the hub bolts I couldn’t get a socket on the thing no matter what I did. Ended up having a shop get on it my dropping the whole suspension and linkages so I’m a little weary about trying this.
