I bought a cheap driveshaft from EBay and it lasted about 2 months. The metal clips that held the rubber boots on had a slight protrusion, and the clip literally sheared right off as it rubbed against the gearbox housing. This allowed all the grease to spin out all over the sub frame. So one bad design cost me £££. Good video thanks for sharing.
Just checked my local Autozone for pricing. So far the cost of the cv axle and the wheel bearing hub kit is around $130.00. Not too bad a price as far as I'm concerned...and yes, I know that Autozone isn't the greatest place to go for parts, but I don't think we will be keeping the car very much longer so I'm not too worried about it. Thanks for the video. I appreciated how you took the time to replace some surrounding parts along the way. It's just good ethics.
I certainly hope the “talk to much” haters don’t dissuade you from making more videos. The info shared is relevant to the task, concise, and can be herd clearly. I’m a BMW guy also and had to cut three of four axel nuts off to replace the wheel bearings on my 09, 335 Xdrive. However, that’s still not enough to make me want to drive a Ford Focus. And... I’m pretty sure you’re alone in thinking a Focus is sexy! One suggestion is to simply pull the caliper and bracket as one unit. The bracket also provides more flexibility on hanging the unit. Obviously if the piston binds or there’s some other indication of a malfunction then proceed accordingly.
When people say they wish their car could "drive like new again" I usually always recommend new axles and upper/lower control arms and shocks and also hubs especially if around 150k mi or more....alot of money for most but boy does it make a difference.
Not always. I thought same as you. Had issues with two cars. Changed rims, few set of tyres, all suspension rebuild, alingment, Hunter road force balancer - nothing. Steering wheels vibrations after 70 mph while cruising, not so mutch when accelerating + car shake in floor near gas pedal. Caused by worn out inner cv joint.
Great video. I watched several CV axle videos before yours and could not find anyone to say a bad inner CV joint would cause the vibration when accelerating as you did. They only mentioned the clicking noise as you said on the outer CV joint. My 2002 Camry 3.0 V6 vibrates badly now upon acceleration. My question to you is how did you determine which CV axle needed to be replaced? The boots on both axles are not leaking grease and are not torn.
If you have ruled out wheel bearings and other suspension parts. Here is my advice from experience. Drive 60mph on curve right up hill or flat, if it vibrates, it's your left CV axle. Curve left up hill or flat, and vibrates, it's your right one. Uphill is best because more weight is shifted to rear and you get more noticeable vibration from your front.
@@davidlewis2297 my car would vibrate going straight but especially going uphill. I found out it was the right CV axle and we replaced it. No more vibration.

The symptom you described is caused by the outer joint, not inner. I fixed that issue very often. You can grab the CV axle shaft push in and pull out, you can feel it has a little play.
My WRX blew both front CV joint outer seals in pretty quick succession, throws grease all over the place. I've had one replaced with another original drive axle so far. Symptoms are clunking (small shudder), clicking, noise, and steering vibration, and of course thick grease on the support members at the bottom of the engine bay etc.
Thanks for the video. I think the CV axles in my 2014 CRV are shot, gettin vibration when I accelerate. The tires were just recently rotated and balanced

"Increase the level of violence till it starts coming out" hahaha Thanks for the video, this is exactly what i'm dealing with now, vibrations under acceleration and the inner cv boot has been ripped for awhile. Now the joint finally went bad. Cheers!

From a stop, floor the gas pedal. You should feel vibration on the bad side. If the outer joint is bad, you will hear noise during cornering on the same side of the bad joint. My 2013 focus I can move the cv shaft up and down by hand, but the inner socket on the transmission side moves too. Is it common for the splines to wear and become loose, or is it more likely I have a worn transmission bearing?
dont need to bother taking all the brake components off, can be done with them still on, hub nut off pinch bolt off control arm out thats it, maybe take stabiliser off.

Not sure to be honest. The lady who works at the shop that rebuilds them is really anti social, so when I asked her if the axle was in bad shape she just said it needed rebuilding and that is it
Good thing you did not use the pinch bolt that came with the control arm. It is not correct. The OE pinch bolt is thicker at the point which butts up against the "notched" part of the balljoint.

Hallo I want to ask if when you turn the steering to the left and the wheel on left make a giggling sound like the wheel sound like a damaged wheel barrow wheel is it a CV joint problem
I'm curious about this too - i've got a 2013 jetta - with an airlift performance suspension in it and recently I've been hearing what sounds like a a cv joint knocking when I am coasting - if I step on the gas or the brake it stops immediately - it seems to happen more frequently at lower ride heights - absolutely no noise when turning, braking normal or even hard acceleration - so I'm sorta stumped, I'd expect under load it would resonate the vibration but none is felt or heard... Your thoughts?

I have a chevy malibu fwd. When I accelerate the car shudders on the left front tire and when I turn right hand down and accelerating from a stop it vibrates. Do you think it is the CV axle ?
yep
Same problem with Impala 2003. And Cutlass Supreme 1995.
I'm sure it's inner CV joint. Or maybe outer.
Yeah I had mine rebuilt by a local shop and the vibration went away.
Good! It was the inner? Or the outer CV joint? Both sides?
Not sure to be honest. The lady who works at the shop that rebuilds them is really anti social, so when I asked her if the axle was in bad shape she just said it needed rebuilding and that is it
Good thing you did not use the pinch bolt that came with the control arm. It is not correct. The OE pinch bolt is thicker at the point which butts up against the "notched" part of the balljoint.
I thought all around good video. But, boy, you are working a tough crowd, though.
Hey guys. I drive a Nissan Primera. When am moving forward, there is a clicking sound coming from the front of the car by the tyres. When I turn left or right there is a louder clicking sound. Am assuming its the velocity joints. Someone please help. And tell me how safe or unsafe the car is or is not
Realy good video!
The info I have on this says not to reuse the control arm mounting hardware. Is this true? Where do you get new hardware?
People be careful with EBay, it might look good but tolerance not the same as in original parts!
I had to replace wishbone twice !
was the axle the issue???? why no follow up video????
Was the vibration problem solved after replacement?
Great videoXD
was in hwy with my 97 volvo and felt wrong vibration then when i went to turn sounded like a metal grinding sound like something broke and when I put it in drive I heard it were but don't hear it in park is it my cv joint
It's hard to explain but I've bad vibration under straight braking a little less when turning. When on full lock there's a loud knock especially when reversing. I've replaced the discs and nearside CV arm but its still happening. Can anyone help with a diagnosis?
Hallo I want to ask if when you turn the steering to the left and the wheel on left make a giggling sound like the wheel sound like a damaged wheel barrow wheel is it a CV joint problem
Do you think the opposite symptoms would then be the outer CV joint? Shudders while coasting and then stops when accelerating?
I'm curious about this too - i've got a 2013 jetta - with an airlift performance suspension in it and recently I've been hearing what sounds like a a cv joint knocking when I am coasting - if I step on the gas or the brake it stops immediately - it seems to happen more frequently at lower ride heights - absolutely no noise when turning, braking normal or even hard acceleration - so I'm sorta stumped, I'd expect under load it would resonate the vibration but none is felt or heard... Your thoughts?
I have a old one Buick century it goes in reverse but it won't go in Drive or it will go and drive but it won't go anywhere could that be the axle
Did it fix your problem of vibration ?
