Plain Atrium floors will snap to concrete floors. I use this to locate and snap the largest vault-tec reactor at floor height with all my non vault builds. Also helps the transition between build sets as you can pull out on floor to replace with others and snap walls accordingly. It would also be a way to set the floor above with vault floor celling combo pieces transitioned to atrium and then to barn allowing perfect alignment.
This is very interesting. It reminds me of some structures back in the day, made with the prefab wood. I once created a kind of favela-style block of flats, with a 1-tile central corridor 5-6 tiles long. Doors on either side, a single tile inside each room, then the end-cap pieces as balconies for an overlook. Gloriously ramshackle. This makes me think about recreating in concrete and barn materials.
Definitely a cool structure. I don't think I'd mix the vault-tec tiles in personally, mostly because they're so annoying. 😢 I like to mix the warehouse and barn tile sets, because they're the same size and a lot more versatile then standard tiles. Almost never dabble with concrete either because I can never get it to look good, but I've been seeing a lot of clean concrete builds lately. 👀
This is a really interesting build design. I used a lot of concrete in a recent starlight drive-in build, and I think something like this could be interesting as some accompanying buildings to fill in the rest of the space. I also feel like the shape would work really well for a gatehouse build for community entrances, and I can definitely see me tweaking the idea for a Sanctuary gatehouse at some point. Especially with the balcony areas, which could make for some great defensive positions.
That was a really kool idea, man! I'd never thought to use Roman-style archetecture before...most of my builds have been using a "Colonial-era" style of building design, building alot off the "Wild West" style of homesteads and forts... but that was really kool! And using concrete! Damn! Iv tried using Concrete for "Fort" settlements (basically, settlements whose only purpose is to be a safe zone between communities...Outpost Zimonja, for example), but for one reason or another, they never really come together well... but this gives me alot of new ideas to try now! I mean, what else am I going to do in Boreout 4? Play the main quest?! ...oh, wait, no...look at that, Preston says another settlement needs our help, so, better go do that first...
Love the building and the choice of location. Maybe the addition of a balcony running around the perimeter of the top floor to give it a watchtower kind of look and functionality.
Use more ancient tech in fallout builds. Gonna do this; maybe make it two wider to leave room for windows/door between the round pieces, Try/fail to do the wood secsion first, then put the vault-tec stuff in the middle. Restart and either put vault-tec on the bottom with the metal poles, or dub it tin foil/plastic and put it on top.. whatever i decide to do, A long house, prehistoric dwelling for both humans and animals (forgot the name) or a tent. Thank you for the inspiration.
I made something similar at the exact same location, only entirely from wood and inspired more by Japanese Castles. The idea was to make a fortified, self-contained archology, with a farming level, a forum level (with bar and shops), a residential level, and then a top security level with guardposts. The entry was through the 1st floor not the ground floor, and it is as close to impregnable as anythihng I've ever seen or made (especially if you are there in time to pull the steps up 😀).
Im absolutely going to build this at Starlight. I built your guard gate with the 2-door mantrap and concrete walls all the way around. This will go perfectly in that space and will look good with the gate. I'll have to watch this back at slow speed so i can see where things go. Your wall placement is so fast it's hard to follow where things go sometimes. Great build!
I do tend to alternate between 200 and 300 percent to make things a bit smoother but I think in this case I was just in the groove so 100-150 might have been more appropriate, sorry about that.
i would love to see a venician building style for housing or something like that because they build the city in such a way to collect rainwater to drink as the city was build in salt water
@@Theegreygaming I’m on PlayStation so the only thing mods can do is unlock a lot of vanilla assets you can’t otherwise use, and you can swap textures around for some more interesting walls and floors.
I'm going to attempt this at Spectacle Island. YES, starlight drive-in and nordhagen would be easier, I already have them built and don't feel like deconstructing them.
Hi Grey Gaming, I'm a recent follower of yours and I've really come to love your work especially your contractor videos. I love fallout and I really appreciate the videos you put out, however I suck at creating homes to stay at in fallout 4 so I find myself not trying at all. I would love to create a player home at Starlight Drive In but I wouldn't know where to start so I was wondering if you could give a few ideas maybe? Just a thought. Thanks.
For the vault-tec level, I used the the utility pieces for the halls/end caps when I did a similar build. I've also used the utility section for the whole floor to because it has squared edges instead of round. Utility pieces are just a bit more finicky to use, however.
Exactly what I was looking for. I mean, casual building, just to get some beds for settlers, is boring. We need to build beautiful buildings. Id suggest considering Renessanse style, originated from Romans. But yes, it's gonna be hard to pull off, but I'm gonna try to research it further.
That's pretty slick, though I wouldn't have gone to all of the trouble with mismatched building component types unless I had a mod to make snapping work better. I don't know what the hell they were thinking but the snapping system in Fallout 4 is trash. Regardless, I don't like that much variety in building styles on a layer by layer basis unless I'm making a trash building. I would probably stick with one of the modded concrete stone block or brick bottom parts, and make everything above that some color of warehouse or barn.
the metal would actually be super simple to serve as a replacement for the vault tec section. lay out the concrete flooring like the second and 3rd floors and snap the metal walls to that level of flooring, then use the wood separator (the one that's a floor stacked on top of a ceiling) to fill in the ceiling for that layer and use a wood set of stairs then do the barn layer on top, or go with the corrugated sheet metal look of the warehouse. I don't like that there are no hole-less sheet metal pieces which is why I eventually removed that layer from my final design, but I did play with it in the design phase.
@@Theegreygaming Cool! I personally don’t have an issue with the scavenged look of that set, so I’m glad it plays nice with the Concrete and Barn sets you used!
The settlement stuff is so bad in fallout 4. Bethesda should port some of those 76 assets to the creation club. This new update was a huge step backwards all becsuse of some mid show.
Yes. There’s a reason why so many of us created mods with more attractive walls/floors/ceilings. Even walls with snappable glass panes, offset or twin doors, snaps in the middle so that we could easily join down the middle to make corridors and half rooms. All because we got tired of the same ramshackle garbage over and over. Good times, good times…
@nobodynothing282 that has nothing to do with this comment though. I'm talking about fallout 4 and just 76 settlement stuff that you get from atom store.
@nobodynothing282 I dont see nothing wrong with paid mods in fallout 5. Unless they are good quality that is worth it unlike the cc in fallout 4 that's buggy.

I’m glad Commonwealth Contractor is back.
Makes me want to build a Roman villa with a huge atrium filled with statues surrounded by mutfruit. Maybe capped by a glass ceiling.
Forget the show and forget the next gen update. Your videos are what got me interested in playing again. Glad your channel got recommended to me.

Also, small foot-print build-high is the best way to avoid bad-guy spawns in your settlement.
Thanks! Thank you for the tutorial. It's beautiful.
Thank you so much for the Super Like. It means so much to me, you have no idea.

I’d play with posts as columns extending the area around structure in a plaza, or temple to Minerva.
THIS is really cool! I love the idea of this style of build! Very well done! I am going to try this at Starlight!!!

Thing that’s missing is the Roman style pillars? And the art work on the inside of them aka the floor titles

This one looks pretty cool and is something I might try to build. Thanks for sharing.
Beautifully done.
I also enjoy replicating classical architecture in Fallout 4. My best one was a basilica cathedral to Atom
that had to be tough to piece together. did you use glitches/mods or stick to vanilla build practices?

Only thing I would do differently is to get rid of the Vault tech floor. Use a metal warehouse floor instead, with a glass floor for the top level.
Warehouse parts snap to concrete. If you find a wallpice that is a similar height to the vaulttech parts, Zou can ensure accuracy....
Great video!

No question it was an unnecessary hindrance to prevent auto-snapping of the different vault room pieces.

hmmmm wood frame housing over concrete comercial sounds very familiar to modern construction. Something like the "5 over 1" trend.
You should do a star field outpost video
concrete at night is incredibly difficult to see the connections....
Thank you
What book are you using for the picture at :19 in the video and does it have a picture of the coliseum?
honestly it was just google image search.
@@Theegreygaming Ok was curious as I was looking for a good picture of the coliseum for my next building project.
If only there were plants, statues, fountains, columns, etc to add to it...
