In a little over 2000 hours of play time in Fallout 4 I've never once used those angle pieces, I couldn't figure out a way to put them to good use, but after seeing them in action now I'll have to experiment with them and see what I can come up with, your videos have reignited my interest in settlement building after letting Sim Settlements do everything for me for so long.
very similar story here. not the sim settlements part, but the angle pieces are really hard to work with and for a long time just built everything on a square. I still do for the most part, but have started getting a little more intricate with certain structures.
@@Theegreygaming I was building a tower structure at Abernathy Farm the other day and to change things up a bit I put 2 of the rounded pieces in each corner of the structure which gave it a unique look,
Nice kill-box! I use the logic gates combined with the settlement alarm/siren connected to the roll up doors. When the guard sounds the alarm all the doors shut and the turrets power up. Watching my settlement destroy its attackers is hilarious, I usually set up a chair on the roof and watch the mayhem.
There's only one way in. . . unless the attackers spawn inside the settlement walls as you fast travel in. I quit building walls around settlements after I watched Oxhorn's video about that issue. Instead, I build turret platforms, using two or three steel posts from Warehouse:Misc., snap a wooden floor to the top and put turrets up there. By raising them up really high, those turrets and hammer targets from a long range. Have enough turrets and the attackers don't survive for long.
That issue has apparently been patched. I haven't found any information relating to attackers moving away from their spawn points since 2016, and I personally haven't experienced it happening in years. nowadays, attackers wait patiently at their spawn points for you to arrive before they begin. are there some settlements that have spawn points inside the buildable area? yes, but that doesn't mean that all of them do. you just have to learn the spawn points. wall builds are very viable for certain locations now.
Making those angled walls connect is a struggle, so this was a really cool tip! One nice thing about this build is that, even though enemies spawn on the island, they shouldn't appear inside this structure I think, at least where I've seen them (haven't looked at Spectacle's spawn points).
Oh but we do. There is The Skooled Zone and Cordless VII just to name a few. A guy by the name of Jug doesn't have many videos up, but he explains some really cool tricks for building without mods. I can't remember the channel name but there's a guy who has really good videos on using the wiring to build really good power grids.
There are quite a few other channels: @spoonerdee @sen @skooledzone @justzophie @nomomodmaster @phoenixembrace, @Vault440 @quinginn ...and quite honestly, ALL of them have builds that look MUCH better than this channel's overuse of concrete. Almost everything on this channel looks like a cross between a prison and a Chicago housing complex.
@FuriousMaximum I'm confused. This channel's style and attitude is safety and defense as main priorities. He doesn't like the scrappy/dirty feel to settlements. I think he does cool stuff, but some things I don't like at all (like the "minimalist" bedrooms, but that can be necessary to save your game from sh*thing itself even on a strong console/PC). Anyway my confusion is, why come on this guy's channel and advertise others and say they're better? Just watch their content ? By no means do I think this guy is a master at building or making visually appealing settlements, but I think what he does is entertaining enough to watch.
This does absolutely nothing if there are enemy spawn points _inside_ the buildable area - which there are for many, if not most settlement places in FO4. I made _massive_ fortifications for my Sanctuary build with *two* heavily guarded entrances with man traps similar to this, and it did *NOTHING* to the security of my settlement. After building a skyscraper at Red Rocket _just because,_ I *completely* lost interest in settlement building.
true, this is only a design that works for certain settlements. but just because it can't go in every settlement, is it reason not to explore the concept for the places it WILL work?
This is a great design for the (mostly) basic game. Sim settlements is a bit tougher with the Gunners ... they seem to have a better AI and come in groups of 20 plus and like to use molotov cocktails a lot. Still it's interesting and I'm wondering which settlements it may fit into

I think I was most impressed by the way you were able to walk along the upper rim of those concrete walls while building without falling off.

Great build! Definitely works with the aesthetic of a large castle/fortress build!
I appreciate the fact someone is taking time to build a whole bunch of cool things

I love this so much. I’m going to attempt something similar on a few of my smaller settlements
Been loving all the build designs you've been posting. Keep it up
It's such a shame we don't have enough good TH-camrs that showcase settlement building. Great videos, pal!

Great tips, thankyou.
Great episode! Have you considered uploading a walkthrough of the game?
Just a comment so the algo let’s other fellas see, thanks Grey! Hope you had good turkey day
I use the tower from your gate house build in my settlements might give this one ago on spectical island

Try looking at the AGOMBZ - Attackers Get Off My Buildzone - mod. It shifts the spawn points to more sensible places.

looks great and should add good defenses to any base.
i am fucking amazed this game still actually have some life in it ...
interesting content but have you considered the place anywhere mod to circumvent all this jumping through poorly designed hoops?
Some of the building features are so broken
FIRST 😊
