    Minor correction: the Castle is unlocked via Minuteman questline, not Railroad. Not sure how that slipped through.

      Maybe with mods it could be unlocked vi railroad.

      You can party unlock it by just clearing it, but you won't get any artillery gun schematics. Still this is a better option in my opinion, because you won't get almost any raid attacks.

    For the turrets you might want to use connectors for each turret, because if you connect the wires to each other and one turret is damaged, the following turrets will be deactivated since energy stopped running at the broken turret

    • @DarkElfDiva

      There is a way. I do it in my settlements all the time. The Castle and that one half-crumbled building in Jamaica Plain come to mind. It's a bit tricky (and it REALLY helps to have a mod like Place Everywhere, that allows you to clip walls into objects without them turning red), but it's doable.

      The barn, warehouse, and concrete structures are a LOT more willing to clip than the base game's structures. I was able to perfectly repair the Croup Manor roof.

    This is exactly how I did my castle walls. The only difference is the garage door is on the inside of the castle wall, and I used a junk gate for the outside. The area in between has turrets set up for any unwanted visitors that happen to get inside the junk gate. I have the inside completely wired almost identically. Just don’t have the wall for the generator room. Lol. I use the inside for shops and sleeping quarters. I even created a nice bar/restaurant in the room you made the bathrooms. I also have 2 jail cells. I have inside bathrooms and have outhouses as well. Awesome build!!

    This is very good The Castle settlement build. I especially like you're northern wall entrance part. The other parts of the fort are really well done like the baracks, and the generator.
    The only thing that I would put outside near the water purifier would be the farm since I like to be historically accurate, so the attackers won't damage the crops, and to save up some space for other future base developments. For the crops I usually go for the Tato, Corn, and Mutfruit to create Adhesive in almost every settlement.
    Now for the future settlement builds videos I would recommend Sunshine Tidings co-op farm, or for more chalenge Coastal cottage settlement.
    Ps. I hope that you will get subs in the future.

    For heavily fortified settlements like this, I'd love to be able to assign a settler as a door guard. They'd basically be like any defense assigned settler but would seal powered doors. Doesn't matter too much when attacks spawn within the walls but still...it would eliminate that weird feeling when you walk away from a fortification leaving the door open or with a way to open it.
    Maybe that's just me

  • @kornelkereszturi7160

    It's really simple, but practical, I like it. I've also started building those holes in and put up some turrets along with the big artillery guns. Then I never really thought about anything, I was concentrating more on Sanctuary Hills. I've demolished most of the old houses and used Snappy Housekit and Scrap Everything mods to clean up the place and built some new buildings, like a big two-floor market, a generator room, 3 residential houses which are almost fully decorated, a barn for the brahmins, and a private house. Now I'm planning a basketball court with some stairs on the side. And I also have a big Power Armor showcase house to let me put out my 10+ different type or painted power armors. I've also fully restored Croup Manor using the Snappy mod, then I went to County Crossing to build an art-deco-like house and some defense for the 2 settlers there. My next big plan is to make something monumental out of Spectacle Island, which is maybe the biggest buildable settlement.
    I like watching, how others make nice settlements, the ideas are almost infinite, especially if you happen to use mods too. Actually I like building some more than playing the game itself.

  • @uni4rm
    @uni4rm 2 ปีที่แล้ว +108

    I use the mod "Castle Walls Restored" (place late in load order) will not only fix the walls, but add several rooms to the castle that were before useless rubble areas including a matching door facing the diner. Also while Bethesda misses stuff all the time, I do like how they connected those sinks through those pipes all the way out to the ocean where the water pump sits. Its a nice touch and one thing you don't have to bother, even if it locks it into that room.

    • @SkrimpKing
      @SkrimpKing 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@Zoomer-Philosophy simple, a majority of all mods are just a form of cheating or not lore friendly at all. Granted they can enhance each individual players experience, but so many videos of settlements that people have created, with the help of mods, completely change the whole look of the game and the fact it is supposed to be post-apocalyptic. Still have to give them props for the things they accomplish but so many people change so much of what makes Fallout, Fallout, that it isn't even close to the same game anymore. Basically a different game just running on Bethesda's game engine.

    • @Confused_Master
      @Confused_Master 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      @@SkrimpKing I mean lore unfriendly maybe, but i highly doubt the cheating one. the ones considered cheats are kinda the lesser ones ngl. I usually run ones that improve the feel and keep it fresh. make things feel more populated, bring in more clothes, weapons, heck, main weapons i add are from FO3 & NV as well as irl guns into the mix. Which many are alot more balanced than some of the guns in the creation club... Need we discuss how broken the triple-barrel shotgun is and how easily obtainable it is? How easy it is to upgrade to max? How stupidly easy it is to get a legendary variant? I mean unless you play straight vanilla the games are always gonna be a little busted

    • @lexvt3551
      @lexvt3551 2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      @Curt Harakaly Who cares how people play a single-player game. I play with lore-friendly, immersion-adding mods. But some people want a fresh game-play experience. Besides, you're telling me it makes sense that one person, who was has no carpentry/construction experience, can make a whole concrete/steel settlement in a few in-game days? Obviously it doesn't but that's in the game. Mods can be used in such a variety of ways (including to actually fix the game, a good portion of my mods). I like to watch people build without mods best but personally I think mods add depth and replay value, even to those who want to keep a lore-friendly and immersive playthrough, like me.

    I have used concrete walls to do the repair. This allows me to build an entry room in the large opening, and a 4 season store in the small opening.
    Over the large opening is an open bay barrack for the troop. The hallway bays are close off into officer quarters.
    I furnished the kitchen so it was functional. A second corner I made into a shower room. The third one was made into a clinic. A the 4th one with the stairs is the general's quarters.
    While I do use mods I added as few extra structures as possible.
    One of the optional mods I sometimes use is grass floor square mod to torn the grass green. I have also used sim settlements to plant crops on the brown grass roofs.
    I try to make it as functional as possible and still put as few alterations inside the courtyard. Keeping it a practice, exercise and recreation area.

    so I play a modded version of Fallout 4 and have a Minutemen playthrough, I usually try to repair the castle and proceed to build like a little shack settlement outside the big main destroyed wall after I fix it because in my headcannon. The minutemen give protection so its only logical for people to settle right at the walls of the castle their main stronghold. my farm is outside with the little shack settlement. inside the castle I usually have a generator shack, an Armory (mostly for my own use with weapon storage, power armor storage etc). A couple barracks, a small port area, command center with jail. I also have a couple artillery positions (the main 4 edges) followed by some guard positions and turrets. The one thing I hate about it though (the build itself not your video) is that one corner at one of the gun emplacements at the most heavily damaged wall. The one that keeps it from being uniform due to the lack of a triangler block in the building options. I've yet to find a solution to it

      Scrapping or Storing items from your inventory (guns, armor, junk) reduces the Size meter allowing you to build more. You just have to drop the items on the ground then go into Workshop and Scrap or Store them. I've been dropping and scrapping my junk this way for some time because I like to see how much of each building material I have and may need, before I learned about this. My size meter is pretty much always at zero now. I hear if you overbuild using this method it can cause framerate and crashes though as the game needs to render everything in the area. I've only been playing for a few months, so you probably already knew this, but I figured I'd share. 😁
      On your point though, I recently fully built a settlement at Oberland Station and was surprised how quickly I filled the meter by just building junk walls and a walkway. Seemed pretty ridiculous to have it so small.

I was going to roof over the whole top half to keep the heavy guns and rockets out that the brotherhood brings with their attack. I know they'll find a way in, but to just keep the heavys out. I never finished it so I don't know if works or not.

    I could never get that creative with the castle (except for a pier outside its' western wall). Most of the inside rooms are generally set up how I want them. The place that starts with the first aid is an aid station, the room at the end with sinks is the dining hall, the arms room stays the arms room. I change only a little; the big officer rooms into bays for the foot sodier minutemen and the central yard is for pushup mats, workout gear, and the rubble pile is a CQM range.
    TLDR: It starts close to how I would want it anyway.

    Arduous torture but damn is it nice to look at when you're done with it.

    • @elrondorio
      @elrondorio 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The barn and warehouse foundation pieces even match the bricklike exterior of the castle walls in vertical wall pattern - I like the ones for the barn because in my game they use no steel. They do fill the holes better, but tend to lower the ceiling in the armory entrance area quite a bit.

    There was a mod I saw awhile back that oxhorn talked about called scrap scrap. It makes all the stuff on the ground scrap able, and you may want to look into it for some of the stuff around this fort. It may work on every settlement too, since it's a mod, but I don't use mods because I don't know which ones will glitch and destroy whatever progress I have.

    Looks great in detail. Great explanation of every area. I'll be watching the other settlement builds. I just need to find the time to create stuff like this. But I feel that I don't have the creative ability. Maybe I do, but the AI needs to be smarter IMO. Do you think you can try something with Hangman's Alley?
    Question, if you fail to help defend a settlement, do you lose some crafting materials? I think someone said that you do. There are times where I am doing stuff in the game or its DLC's and the message pops up that you have failed to help defend "X" Settlement. Seems like the message does not pop up all the time.

    • @Theegreygaming
      @Theegreygaming  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't noticed any crafting materials go missing but you can have several objects like turrets, power generators, and water purifiers become "damaged" and will no longer operate until you spend resources to repair them.

Though I dont really try to make use of the internal wall 'repaired' sections. I prefer to keep the doorways small though, if caravans show up they can sit outside thank you very much, im not compromising on security for the HQ of my private army.

    When you've got all the outer doors locked, does it really prevent attacking enemies from entering the settlement? In my own attempts to create an unassailable bunker, I've found that enemies run into the walls, and after pressing their faces against the wall long enough, they simply teleport through, rendering my carefully positioned walls pointless.
    I'm aware of what the problem is- faulty navmesh integration of placed objects, combined with the game engine's mechanic for unsticking trapped entities. But knowing doesn't make it less frustration.

    • @thomasaitken7495

      When you fast travel, only distance travelled by enemies is calculated. Walls play no part in it. So that is how they get in.
