    Getting ready to hang some gutters on a metal building. I'm going straight into the metal sides of the building, but your video was a HUGE help. Great job! Thanks!

    Its great that you are saving rain water to use instead of well water, We have 6 - 265 gallon totes that are connected together then a well water pump and pressure tank, we then use the water for our garden and to fill out bird baths and any other projects that we have throughout the summer season . We are getting a metal roof put on this spring and I needed some pointers on how they put gutters on houses with metal roofs and I thank you for sharing your time and expertise Thank you.

      Sounds like you have a nice setup. I never quite finished my water harvesting install. Got all the parts, including 2x 275gal IBC totes, but decide to use those at my off-grid property instead.
      Glad you found this useful. At the time I made it, I couldn't find any videos on TH-cam about how to anchor gutters to a metal building. So I figured it out and shared with the TH-cam community for the next person.
      Thanks for your support. Have a fantastic day.

      Thank you so much. I especially appreciate your comment because I had someone leave a nasty comment on this video saying I talked like I was explaining to 5-year-olds, and that everyone knows what a sheet metal screw is. I don't remember what else they said, because they were just being nasty. Not the kind of person I want to watch my channel. So thank you for making my day with your kind words. I hope you have a blessed day too.

    Really appreciate you providing this instructional. This makes the job seem relatively simple and much more approachable for a beginner like myself. I will use this video as a resource when installing gutters on my building in the very near future.
    The fact that it started raining as soon as you got the gutters up was hilarious. Like "here you go, go ahead and see them in action". Hope the gutters are still serving you well. Thanks again for the video.

      Thanks so much for the supportive feedback. You made my day.
      I had one person say it was insulting, like I was talking to kindergarteners, but a half dozen more say how helpful it was. So screw the "haters" ;).
      I want to inspire people to try doing something new themselves because I know the great feeling you get when you've done it. Believing you can do it, and taking that 1st step is always the hardest part. But then you just keep putting one foot in front of another, before you know it, you have accomplished something new; which inspires confidence to try something else...
      Thanks again for the support. And if you haven't seen it yet, be sure to check out my website-- twc-projects.net

    Do you have an update on your gutter project? I have a 24ft x 30ft x 9ft all metal garage building here in southern Alabama, that I need to install gutters on also. I love your great explanation of your installation instructions as you were installing yours. I have installed used IBC water storage collection tanks on the bottom of my downspouts. I have the downspouts connected to 4 inch sewer pipes to a clean out at the bottom. I then have a wye fitting up above the IBC that is sitting on cement blocks. Rain goes down to the clean out with all of the garbage off of the roof, water then backs up and flows into the IBC tanks, I have another screen filter or filter sock to catch other debris and to keep mosquitoes from infecting my tanks. I currently have one 275 gallon, two 250 gallon tanks. The 275 gallon was purchased from a mobile car wash business for $50, the two 250 gallon tanks were purchased from a third party for $100 each, who had gotten them from a poultry farm that had chlorine in them to clean out chicken houses. I use the water to irritate my fruit trees and garden. I have quick connections on the IBCs downsized to 1/4 turn garden faucets for hose connections. IBCs are really expensive if you purchase brand new.
    Caution: If purchasing used, make sure that you find out what they were used for. One third party that I had purchased from mislead me, and was selling IBCs that contained hazardous ⚠️ chemicals/materials that caused cancerous tumors and affected your breathing.

      Sounds like you have a real nice setup. I like your filtration approach too. Thanks so much for sharing. You should make a video of your setup.
      Sorry I haven't made any further progress on my gutters. Got them to a point where they keep the rain moving away from the doors and I stopped there for now. Have been focusing on other projects at the moment. Will eventually get back to this, but low on funds for all these things, especially around the holidays. But will eventually finish the job and record it.
      Thanks again for your comments and for watching. Hope you've subscribed and share with friends. Take care.

    Hi thanks for the video. Just had a metal garage installed and I need to do gutters. Your video is the most helpful one out there. My concern is having the gutter attached to nothing but the thin facia, and I was curious to hear how yours has held up. Still no problems? Did you have snow over the winter? I think I’m going to do basically the same thing you did, but with 6 inch gutters. I may buy a roll of aluminum strapping, material, cut short lengths and have one end attached to the gutter somehow and the other end attached directly to the roof. In my mind this may take some of the strain off of the facia, but I guess I’m not certain.

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks. We did not have any real snow or ice this winter to fully test the gutters. However, I think your plan sounds perfect: go with 6" gutters and add strapping every 6ft or so, attached to the roof. I'd suggest you put a little silicone between the strapping and the roof at the screw hole, and of course use roofing screws with rubber washers. That, combined with brackets every 2ft, should give you plenty of strength. Hope all goes well and thanks for watching.

    How has the weight of the rain and especially the snow faired for the gutters since the hangers were attached solely to the metal fascia? Also did 5" suffice to not allow a hard rain to come down onto the metal roof and completely bypass the gutters all together?

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Good questions. Just installed the gutters a few weeks ago, so can't say about the snow yet. But had some heavy rains and they seemed to handle them with no problems. As I was installing the 5" gutters, I was thinking I really should have gone larger; just worried about that much more weight. If I were to do it over though, I think I'd use 6".
      Hope that helps. Thanks for your comments and for watching my channel.

      @@twc-projects thanks for responding. With an all metal structure ourselves so we are worried about placing it with only thebsupport of the fascia.

    Great info wanted more info on attachment of hangers it appears that the metal should carry the weight ok ie don’t need to attach to wood inside building

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I just used 3-4 metal screws directly into the flashing and that has worked fine. Been in place for 2ys now, and no issues. Have had some pretty massive downpours too, but going strong still.
      Thanks for your comments and for watching. Have a fantastic day.

    How did you calculate and adjust for the slope? It looks like the hangers are all attached the same so how do you get the proper grade on the gutters to take water to where you want it? Thanks for the great video.

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  ปีที่แล้ว +6

      No math involved. Simply mounted the hanger as high as I could on one end, and as low as I could on the other end, where I wanted water to exist. Then used chalk line to mark from top of one hanger to the top of the other. That gave me a line where I placed the top of every hanger. Hope that helps.

    Getting ready to do my metal garage, you didn't say anything about the hangers, that is a main concern on attaching them to the tin fascia, and the type of

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Troy, can you please explain your question a little better. I show the hangers I'm using (5" fir 5" gutters) of which I put 3-4 sheet metal screws in each, directly into facia. That's it. The close spacing is what provides the strength needed. The closer the hangers to one another, the more weight the gutter can take. Does that help? If not, please provide more detail and checkout others comments on this video. Thanks for your question and for watching.

    Just stumbled across this.. thanks for the tips and video. I've been wondering how I was going to do this. I haven't crawled up and looked at mine yet but I'm guessing ours is the same garage style. Steel, square tubed frame. Not much to really bite into on the fascia besides the fascia trim itself.

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! I haven't had any issues with a 5" gutter, but if I did it again, I might spring for the 6". Once you put it up there, it just looks smaller than it did on the ground.
      Thanks for watching. Please check out my website for a lot of great resources. ( twc-projects.net )

  • @terrysmith1914

    Did you have to trim off the length of your roof edge? How much over hang from the facia is the roof edge?

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No, fortunately. They were around 2". Looking back, I probably should have gone with 6" gutters, but until I got up there on a latter, it appeared 5" would be plenty. So far no issues, but we really haven't had any massive sustained rains since I've put them up. So far so good.

  • @timd5597
    @timd5597 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    With putting up gutters do you think it will create ice damming and water would run underneath the metal roofing to ruin the interior walls if finished inside?

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good question. Where I live we don't have too much trouble with things like frost heaves and ice, except when it weighs down the trees enough to break them. And that's typically only for a few days in a row before a warm enough day comes along to melt the ice. I think if I were further north it could be an issue. Of course, anything is possible, so I guess I'll find out this winter.

    very helpful. my gutters guy would not touch the steel roof of the Lania gutter. would pop rivets be a possibility vs screws on the hangers?

    • @twc-projects
      @twc-projects  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Seems like pop rivets could work fine. I wouldn't want to have to drill them all out if I had to replace a damaged one though. I've had some heavy downpours since installing them and they seem to be plenty strong even. I guess the real test will be when a downspout gets clogged and the gutters fill to the brim. So far so good though.
      Thanks for the positive feedback and for watching.
